Hey! If you're a longtime subscriber you're probably thinking, whoa, this podcast hasn't updated since 2017. What's going on? Well, you know, it's the summer of 2020, the COVID-19 era, and all our beloved comic conventions and entertainment expos have been cancelled. So, to help anyone who is missing their favorite cons, we decided to open our archive of live convention panel recordings and share some previously unreleased material. This is our How to be a Nerd for a Living panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2018. PLEASE NOTE: This panel was recorded live, and the audio is not as high-quality as we typically prefer—which is why we didn't share it sooner. But, in this time without Comic-Cons, we wanted to put some of the best conversations we've had out into the universe regardless of audio issues. So, please forgive any static.   Our Wendy Buske chats with guest speakers Tomi Adeyemi (author, Children of Blood and Bone series), Susan Eisenberg (voice actor, Justice League, Masters of the Universe: Revelation), Travis McElroy (podcaster, MBMBAM, The Adventure Zone), Ben Blacker (writer and podcaster, The Thrilling Adventure Hour, Hex Wives), Jazzlyn Stone (comics marketing expert), and Jaimie Cordero (CEO, Espionage Cosmetics) about how each of them started out, ways they pursued careers in pop culture entertainment, and lessons they've learned through it all.

Greetings Geeks and welcome to another episode of Game on Girl! My apologies for the lag in episode releases for Game on Girl. I came back with the best of intentions for monthly content on our podcast feed but as my favorite poet says, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." That's certainly how the last few months have gone for me. But I am back with a fantastic LIVE episode interviewing Jaimie Cordero from Espionage Cosmetics. We met up at Rose City Comic Con on September 8th. I attended Jaimie's panel, Level Up: Be a Nerd Boss on Friday of the con. Hearing her speak on the panel left me with many of the questions you hear in the interview. Of particular note is the way that Jaimie runs much of her business like she would run a raid in the glory days of WoW and the Burning Crusade (B.C.) expansion. Recording Live Live episodes present their own challenges and this one is no exception. I was able to edit out some of the background noise and the interruptions we faced but the recording is still a bit rough. Thankfully, you can hear Jaimie and that's the important part. She shares a truly personal story with us, one she admits she doesn't share often and leaves us with such a great message. I am so thankful that she agreed to the interview. It was beyond the highlight of the con for me. Espionage Swag I was able to get some pretty cool stuff that just happened to be out of stock (!) on the site at the time. One of my favorite moments of this interview wasn't recorded. When I sat down, Jaimie took one look at my nerd wrapped nails and said, "Oh you're an OG fangirl." I showed off my nails and she said, "I've been involved in every nail wrap run we've done for the company and I can tell you those wraps are five years old! It's great to see they still hold up!" And hold up they did. I wore the classic "Chainmail" wraps all weekend. To Discuss What is your best networking advice? What's a difficult moment you've had in your life that shaped a big decision? Let me know on Twitter @doclizz. Until next time, game on! Regina --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/gameongirl/message

During our trip to Seattle for Emerald City Comic Con, we got to visit Espionage Cosmetics HQ and sit down with their owner and Glitter Jedi, Jaimie Cordero, to chat all things nerdy makeup.   One of the first things Jaimie says about Espionage Cosmetics is that it isn't quite the business she expected to have, because it's so much bigger and so much better. Espionage's first product line (The Browncoats Collection) came about as a response to the devastating news that Firefly actually only has one season. It sold out at its first con and has since exploded into the glittery empire it is today.   At the heart of Espionage is the desire to change the beauty industry. Not exactly known for being the most welcoming, kind, or diverse industry, Espionage is working hard to change that. They're the cosmetics company for people who don't fit in with other cosmetics companies. And as two homeschooled kids, Jaimie and I understand a little bit about not fitting in.   The world needs more feminine, geeky versions of all of its industries, and we're so glad Espionage has filled one of those gaps.   Please look for them at your next convention and hang out with them at espionagecosmetics.com and all over the Internet.   Have a great week, and stay nerdy.   P.S.
