Hey! If you're a longtime subscriber you're probably thinking, whoa, this podcast hasn't updated since 2017. What's going on? Well, you know, it's the summer of 2020, the COVID-19 era, and all our beloved comic conventions and entertainment expos have been cancelled. So, to help anyone who is missing their favorite cons, we decided to open our archive of live convention panel recordings and share some previously unreleased material. This is our How to be a Nerd for a Living panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2018. PLEASE NOTE: This panel was recorded live, and the audio is not as high-quality as we typically prefer—which is why we didn't share it sooner. But, in this time without Comic-Cons, we wanted to put some of the best conversations we've had out into the universe regardless of audio issues. So, please forgive any static.   Our Wendy Buske chats with guest speakers Tomi Adeyemi (author, Children of Blood and Bone series), Susan Eisenberg (voice actor, Justice League, Masters of the Universe: Revelation), Travis McElroy (podcaster, MBMBAM, The Adventure Zone), Ben Blacker (writer and podcaster, The Thrilling Adventure Hour, Hex Wives), Jazzlyn Stone (comics marketing expert), and Jaimie Cordero (CEO, Espionage Cosmetics) about how each of them started out, ways they pursued careers in pop culture entertainment, and lessons they've learned through it all.

Hey there Hall H Show listeners! Aaron Nabus here and we're continuing our journey back to San Diego Comic-Con 2018 with my conversation with Tristan Whitehouse from the comic book creating group, The Accidental Aliens. At the time of this recording, he had just gotten out of panel featuring The Accidental Aliens at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 and he was in the middle of completing his first comic book, "The Adventures of Terrik Zion," which is now finished so please check it out! It was great getting to know Tristan a bit more as we have spoken to each other before at other conventions and events. So I hope you enjoy this conversation I had with him and...as the faithful listeners that you are, will continue to support indie comic book creators like Tristan and the other members of The Accidental Aliens. You can find out more about Tristan and the Adventures of Terrik Zion at ArtKnightStudios.com Thanks for listening and don't forget to visit Artist Alley at all the conventions you plan on going to this year. Aaron Nabus here and one my personal heroes when it comes to covering pop culture and comic books is Forbes writer and author of the book, "Comic-Con and the Business of Pop Culture," Rob Salkowitz. On this episode, which was recorded at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, we got to talk about the first comic book he read, "The Spirit" by Will Eisner, which was given to him by his father; his connection to underground comic legend, Dennis Kitchen; his journey to becoming a writer for Forbes; the future of comics and how we can be better advocates for diversity. As someone who has been coming to San Diego Comic-Con since the late 90's, watching it explode from 35,000 to well over 135,000 attendees in less than a decade, it was great to hear Rob's perspective.   Thanks again for being on the Hall H Show, Rob and I look forward to our next conversation!

On the last episode, episode 56, we learned a bit about Arlen Schumer, comic book historian, author, illustrator and graphic designer from my interview with him that was recorded at Palm Springs Comic-Con 2017. On this episode, recorded at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, we learn more about his three pop culture "children," Bruce Springsteen, The Twilight Zone and the Silver Age of Comic Books. We also talk about his argument of the racism concerning Black Panther's mask, auter theory of comics as it pertains to Jack Kirby and other artists like Steve Ditko who should have their rightful creative credit attributed to them, self sacrifice and what it is to be a man. This is one powerful and moving podcast as Arlen got real and vulnerable with me just like his idol, Bruce Springsteen was with him...and I love him for it. Enjoy! ~Aaron
