The first My Good Bad Brain Hotline tape is here and I'm very very honored to share it. You guys were so generous to contribute your experiences to this tape. Your share your personal experiences with various medications, among them are prozac, wellbutrin, lamictal, lamotrigene, and paxil. Some of you also share a bit more deeply about suicide attempts, eating disorders, hospitalization, experiences with anxiety, depression, bipolar... I can only say thank you. This is my favorite episode we have done, there is beautiful music under this by Jason Scardamalia, it is... well it's extremely Good Bad Brain. I wanted to share your experiences and minds as a place we could all visit, a place where we all have a seat and an experience. It is so so wonderful of you to include us. I believe this is how community and solidarity can be made from something as small and personally experienced as a podcast. Thank you. I hope you love this as much as I do.Some content warnings, there are experiences with some traumatic stuff on here, suicide, eating disorders, sexual assault, I just want to make sure I mention that again. These are people sharing their real lives and I think that is the most valuable thing we can do with each other. Also if you would like some clothing and accessories we have now you can visit mygoodbadbrain.com and get merch, which is cool, mine just came today and I'm excited. Okay, hydrate, self-care, be well.mygoodbadbrain.cominstagram.com/jarrett_sleepertwitter.com/jarrettsleeperpatreon.com/mygoodbadbrain See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
THE SHOW NOTES-A Croatian MMA fight in Crimea leads to one fighter losing twice in the same MMA fight to both his opponent and the referee via technical submission. This weekend’s Bellator over delivered with three super viral finishes that made the rounds on IG.This Week in Sporps: Spinning shit, upkicks KOs, and a super rare gogoplata in MMA. Spinning Shit: Raymond Daniels, in just his SECOND mma appearance, hit the craziest tornado punch against Wilker Barros (spinning back kick into nutty tornado punch). Is there a parallel between the relationship of linear media/new media and boxing/MMA when it comes to money? Probably. But we’re not economists. Upkicks: Fabian Edwards beat Falco Neto with that upkick straight into some hands. Brent Primus got dropped by Tim Wilde but gogo’ed him just 1 minute and 20 seconds into the fight.Show and Tell - Fighting in HockeyGrowing up in LA we’ve had the Kings but LA was never a hockey town until Gretzky came to town. Jarrett’s knowledge of hockey might begin and end with the Sega Genesis classic NHLPA ‘93 so Zeke had his work cut out for him as he went through the origins of fighting in hockey. The term “Fisticuffs” makes its return to the podcast as we discuss the 1922 hockey rules (rule 56 or 46 if you’re playing with the new rules). Can your martial art answer a hockey fight? Most don’t but gi jiu jitsu might… pay attention to grips right away! Having a game plan is not the same thing as magical thinking and only setting an intention. Tactics? We don’t need no stinking tactics! We have the traditional Go-for-It method and the classic rope-a-dope tactic as made famous by Gordie Howe. Etiquette: Like most things in life there is a way to go about fighting in hockey. Goon vs Goon and size matters. But what about the refs? Well they have a lot of leeway and sometimes guys just need to work it out. Causes: There are several but it's usually related to honor, protection but sometimes it’s personal. Will it ever go away? Probably not. Efforts have been made but it's a part of the game for the foreseeable future. Here are the top 5 hockey fights of all time in no particular order…Marty McSorley vs Wendel Clark - One of the most celebrated hockey players of all time takes on one of the most hated, and the video is an instant classicFlyers vs Canadiens - The scene was so embarrassing for the NHL that rules were finally changed. Incredibly harsh penalties were delivered to any player caught leaving the bench to fight, and the “Warmup Brawl” promptly ended bench clearing brawls from taking placeColorado Avalanche vs Detroit Red Wings - Context: Also known as “Bloody Wednesday”, this was the brawl that defined an eraBruins vs Rangers 1979 - The debauchery on the ice wasn’t enough as a Ranger’s fan named John Kaptain joined the melee, stealing a players’ stick and hitting him from the stands. That spurred on 18 different Bruins to run into the stands and pummel Kaptain.Dave Schultz vs tiger williams - Schultz showed why he still holds the record more most penalty minutes in a single season with 472 by immediately dropping the gloves and going after Williams in retaliation for a dirty playIf you have a suggestion for viral clip of the week, or a topic related to anything fight stuff you think we should explore, email us at fightstuffpodcast@gmail.com , follow us on instagram @fightstuffpodcast , leave us a nice review, that helps, and we want this thing to be a THINGCREDITSFight Stuff is hosted, edited, and executive produced by Jarrett Sleeper and me Zeke Rodrigues Thomas for Mindjam Media. A scrappy 19 year old hockey player picks the wrong guy to challenge to a hockey fight, we accidentally skank our way back to the 90’s with a Mighty Mighty trip down memory lane, Plus we talk UFC 236 with Stylebender and Kelvin Gastelum delivering an early contender for fight of the night, and we strap in for this week's show-and-tell that proves two great tastes don’t always taste great together in Xarm.SHOW NOTESA new genre of viral fight clip of the week… Hockey fights! Ovechkin delivers sock classic chin music via a label grab, Zeke skanks his way back to his 90’s ska/punk days and details how he ended up with a Dicky Barrett original (Mighty Mighty Bosstones) and accidentally appeared on their record, we remind our listeners to not rush the stage at a Tool show, Zeke reminisces about shows at the Middle East in Cambridge and his Big D and the Kids Table fandom. We attempt to unpack the unwritten rules of fighting and violence in college and professional hockey, how that fighting style mimics street fighting with collar grabs and lapel work, how mouthguards work by dissipating energy, GO PHYSICS! This Week in Sporps we touch on a bunch of including UFC 236 fight of the year contenders Gastelum vs Adesanya and Poirier vs Holloway, Loma putting on a boxing clinic against a not ready for primetime contender. We fan boi out on Stylebender and his anime background and the tools he’s yet to show, we marvel at Theo Von’s reaction to Dustin Poirier winning the interim Lightweight title, nerdy Stylebender talks some smack to High School Bully Jon Jones.WE GO DEEP on the strangest “sport” to ever materialize in the vicinity of MMA….XARM. From the broken brain of Art Davie came this abomination of an arm wrestling and MMA hybrid. Drawing on inspiration from prison rules basketball XArm dared to ask, “What would happen if I was losing an arm wrestling contest and just wanted to punch the other guys in the face??!?!?! Did we mention the “Idea Lab” he established in the 909?!?!?! We decide to start a new sport that combines WoW and grappling to compete with MMA and esports, hockey is the greatest sport ever but it is not a tv friendly sport even with Fox Trax glowing puck from the 90s, CREDITSFight Stuff is executive produced edited and hosted by Jarrett Sleeper and Zeke Rodrigues Thomas for Mindjam Media. This episode is a conversation with my pal Jason Scardamalia, who lives with me. The comfort and closeness of this makes it almost feel like a brain breather, I think. We discuss the standard models of heteronormative fulfillment and companionship, how we especially as straight men are allowed to feel love and happiness, and the reality of alternatives we have found in our real life of living together and having nourishing friendships with our social circles. We also get into aging and the idea of "maturing" in today's strange world, one with the internet and life modeled by celebrity and drama. I hope you enjoy this chat of ours, I hope you get something out of it that helps or entertains you. Be well, self-care, hydrate.Throw some cash at patreon.com/mygoodbadbrain if you feel so compelled or leave us a nice review, it helps the show terrifically. So, this is an old thing I put together and was reminded of when someone sent me a message about it last week. They said they still listen to it when they go to sleep and I thought that was pretty nice. I explain the idea in the opener, but it's a not quite ASMR not quiet ambient meditation not quite music not quite poetry reading not quite podcast collection of all those things and I just called it a Dreamtape. Something to zone out to or workout to or chill to or do chores to or fall asleep to. I never made another one, but being reminded of it this week has made me think I might. I hope you dig it, let me know! Thank you to Jason Scardamalia for all the music collaboration and contribution. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
