It's the first show of 2022 and we're pumped to have you back. Go ahead and leave us one of those sweet star ratings on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. We'll be your friend! On the show today: Antonio Brown does more Antonio Brown things, TCA's holiday strategy, why "best of" episodes of a podcast are just lazy, the abrupt death of music as a Christmas or Birthday gift, why complaints over NHL Winter Classic scheduling were ridiculous, Ovechkin still has one platform where he's better than McDavid, Crosby and Matthews, just how hard NHL players are still trying to get to the Olympics, a total dud between the Leafs and Senators and so much more. It's another late-night one! Hunter is back with a fresh episode on the Pittsburgh Penguins. He first goes into a deep preview on the Sabres...was the falling off expected? Is Tage Thompson turning into a Penguins killer? How has Kyle Okposo been able to rewind the clock? Hunter then touches on Kasperi Kapanen and how he's been able to turn it around. Was regression to the mean always the likeliest of scenarios? Does this turnaround coincide with how good his underlying numbers have been? He then discusses Jason Zucker's play and what the team should do with him before ending the show with a rant about how the DC media needs to stop dragging Crosby down when Ovechkin does something great. Christmas is coming and for some teams that is a good thing as we point out in this week's episode. There have been no major player moves to this point but we have seen Jim Benning fired. Joining him are Travis Green and Alain Vigneault. Bruce Boudreau is in for Vancouver and Mike Yeo for Philly. We break down the NHL power rankings and identify a couple of surprises on the list. Johnny Hockey will be a UFA at the end of the season and Matthew Tkachuk an RFA. Can Calgary afford both? Can they afford to lose either player? A few milestones were hit and we talk about them. Jenny Potter will be inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame and it is much deserved. Ben Bishop may be calling it a career as he has a degenerative knee injury. Jack Eichel brings the good cheer to the Golden Knights and the U.S. Olympic teams as he has been seen back on skates and we talk about the young Russian, Matvei Michkov, who at 16 years and 11 months is one year younger than another famous player named Ovechkin when he made his first appearance on the Russian National Team. The holidays are nearing so sit back and enjoy our gift to you...Episode 250! Enjoy the Show!

I'm in a shockingly cranky sports mood to start, but it makes for a compelling podcast as Episode #224 delivers top notch analysis and opinions on all that's happening in the sports landscape. On deck: (5:27) The NFL is passed the halfway point of the season. To put it nicely, this hasn't been one to write home about. I get into why it's been a disappointing season to date. I'll get into my winners (Chiefs, Patriots) and losers (Ravens, Broncos) of the week, the difference between a wide open AFC and top heavy NFC, go through another less than exciting week of games, culminated by the dreadful performance of the 16-16 tie between the Lions vs. Steelers, which YOU KNOW, I'll have a thing or two to share about that! (30:39) The Oklahoma Sooners are the next team that have kissed their playoff chances goodbye, but the talk was about what Baylor did at the end of the game. Was it right for Baylor coach, Dave Aranda to kick a meaningless field goal as time expired? Plus, Michigan pulled out a huge victory at Penn State to keep their playoff hopes alive. I'll have an up to the minute look at the college football playoff landscape. (40:49) The NBA has been quiet for the most part, but the story early on this first month of the season is the hot start of the Golden State Warriors. Are they the biggest surprise in the league so far? What about the Washington Wizards? Also, is the Nikola Jokic-Markieff Morris dustup this past week going to have a life of its own as Jokic's brothers have gotten involved inciting a Twitter feud with the Morris brothers? I'll share my thoughts on another executive, this time from the Portland Trail Blazers, that had to resign due to an investigation regarding workplace concerns. I'll take a trip around the hardwood throughout the Association and get you caught up on all that's happening. (47:27) College basketball is underway! One of the big storylines throughout the sport is the final go-round for legendary Duke coach, Mike Krzyzewski, as they start off their season with a win vs. Kentucky. People are already thinking that they are Final Four bound come March. Is it premature to even think that? Plus, Gonzaga has a 'championship or bust' mentality as they're out of the gate with a 2-0 record. (49:58) Alexander Ovechkin continues to be his dominant goal scoring self as he's creeping up the all time list. He's now in 4th place behind Jaromir Jagr, Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky. Can he catch the Great One? Sidney Crosby has made his return back from COVID. Do they still garner respect as a championship caliber team? Has their window closed? I'll see what else is happening in the NHL as check on some surprises and disappointments, including the health status of Canadiens goaltender, Carey Price as we're more than a month into the season. (57:03) Lastly, I'll have my Hero and Zero of the Week.
