As Washington prepares to take on UCLA later today, there are a lot of questions as the Huskies prepare for the final seven weeks of the football season. Head coach Jimmy Lake and his staff have said this is the most healthy their team has been all season. What impact will that have on the game? Can the Huskies, who are allowing almost 150 yards per game on the ground, stop a very good ground game for the Bruins that features a one-two punch in Brittan Brown and Zach Charbonnet? What impact will Washington's defensive line, led by Sam Taimani, Faatui Tuitele and Tuli Letuligasenoa, have on this game? Is Dylan Morris ready to play his best game of the season so far? If he doesn't, it could spell trouble for the Husky offense as UCLA's defensive line is allowing less than 93 yards per game on the ground. The guys from Dawgman -- Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund -- sit down and discuss each one of these topics and touch on recruiting as well as what happened earlier this week at the Pac 12 basketball media day. Former United States Navy SEALKevin Lacz served two tours in 2006 in Ramadi, Iraq. He is a decorated veteran, writer, actor, physician assistant. Originally from New England and a loyal Patriots, Red Sox and Bruins fan, he currently lives with his wife Lindsey and their two kids in the panhandle of Florida.Kevin is also a creative guy who found himself taking on a few roles in the movie world, notably playing himself (Dauber) in Clint Eastwood's adaptation of the Chris Kyle autobiography American Sniper. And in 2016 he wrote his own memoir, The Last Punisher about his experience in Ramadi during those day with Chris Kyle, Jonny Kim, Ryan Job, Jocko Willink, Mike Monsoor, and Marc Alan Lee, who he talks about during this interview, a colleague and friend who was both compassionate and as tough as they come. Kevin talks about the truly challenging nature of transitioning back home to civilian life, and that for SEALS and other Special Operators, there can be a real sense of respect, control and belonging that is profound – And when back home, it's huge change – It's about redefining one's self and finding new passions, new meaning. He just published a book called The Veteran's Workbook, about how to transition back to the work force post military, along with Bill Hobbs and his wife Lindsey Lacz that connects to that concept of belonging. He and Lindsey and their kids live in Florida, actively shuttling back and forth to scouts and gymnastics and busy. They also run Hunting For Healing, a charitable organization that brings disabled veterans hunting, fishing and outdoor activity, and reconnecting with each other and family.Note: News clip source: Rep. The Boston Bruins and franchise defenseman Charlie McAvoy agreed to an 8-year, $76-million contract extension on Friday. It's huge money for the 23-year-old, but well deserved and fair value for a player of his ilk. Plus, the Bruins are finally going to play their first game Saturday, and Jeremy Swayman has been tapped as the starter. All this and more on today's episode of Locked on Boston Bruins. They then touch on the Sabres' big opening night win over the Habs, the Kraken notching their first victory, and […]
(0:00) Zolak & Bertrand, with Hardy filling in for Beetle and Tim McKone along for the ride, start the show by reacting to Charlie McAvoy's contract extension and the comments made by Bruce Cassidy about the Bruins goalie situation. (12:55) We continue our conversation on McAvoy being extended, before jumping into Chris Sale starting Game 1 of the ALCS for the Red Sox. (26:11) Calls come in on Sale starting Game 1 of the ALCS, Rask's injury, and Patriots wide receivers blocking down the field. The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - break down what they've seen from the UCLA Bruins so far this season and how they match up against the Washington Huskies going into Saturday night's game at Husky Stadium. What to make of the Bruins? They've certainly been a bit of a contradiction in 2021. They had an early win over LSU that was a huge feather in the cap for the Pac-12 Conference. But then they lost to Fresno State and former UW quarterback Jake Haener. They bounced back with a strong win at Stanford, but then lost by nearly 20 at home to Arizona State. Jack and Luke break the UCLA offense down, starting with veteran quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. They also have one of the top run games in the conference, led by Zach Charbonnet and Brittain Brown. And when DTR doesn't hand it off or tuck it and run it himself, he's got a couple of capable pass-catchers in Kyle Philips and Greg Dulcich. How will the Huskies try and slow down UCLA's potent offense? How will they contain DTR? Jack and Luke give their thoughts on what UW may do to force the issue, including some breaking news on the potential return of a UW defender? On the defensive side of the ball, the guys talk about some of the UCLA names to watch, like former UW commit Ale Kaho and Bo Calvert, brother of former UW linebacker Josh Calvert, who is now at Utah, as well as DB Qwuantrezz Knight. Luke throws down the stats to see where the Huskies might be able to attack a Bruins defense that has given up yards and points on a fairly consistent basis in 2021. And lastly, Jack and Luke throw out their confidence levels for a Washington win. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Matt and Ty are back with a whole new podcast, rebranded as the Sports Hub Underground. The guys explain the meaning behind the change, before launching into a season preview for the 2021-22 Boston Bruins. Among the topics... -- The Bruins may have their best forward depth in years with additions like Erik Haula, Nick Foligno, and Tomas Nosek. And how will the second line look now with Charlie Coyle at center and Taylor Hall driving the action? Most importantly, is it enough depth around them to legitimately contend for the Stanley Cup? (4:11) -- Charlie McAvoy is about to get paid big-time. Is this also the year he takes a big jump with his offensive numbers? The guys also take a closer look at how newcomer Derek Forbort will fit into the lineup, and why Brandon Carlo and Mike Reilly will likely stick together all season. (24:13) -- In goal, the Bruins aren't paying as high a price as people believe, compared to the rest of the league. Ty explains why he thinks Tuukka Rask will re-sign, and the guys go over the possible scenarios for when he returns. (37:20) -- Finally, Matt & Ty get into some big-picture NHL topics. They have some thoughts on the new national broadcasts on ESPN and TNT, and their picks to win the Stanley Cup in 2022. Hint: They both picked the same team, and it's not the Bruins. Scott Cullen digs into the Boston Bruins, a team that has been a contender for the better part of the past decade. They might still have it in them and the question will be whether they have enough supporting talent to go with their top-tier players. The Bruins starting with one of the best lines in hockey and one of the best defensemen in hockey are ahead of the game in that respect but need the complementary pieces to push them over the top. Jimmy Lake met with the media one last time before the UCLA game on Saturday evening and reiterated his belief that the bye week came at the right time to get his team healed up. And that includes his coaches. Derham Cato was injured on the sidelines two weeks ago at Oregon State and is still a little dinged up but will be coaching this weekend. Same with UW Defensive Coordinator Bob Gregory, who has been dealing with an unspecified, non-COVID-related illness. But he stopped short of confirming whether or not Zion Tupuola-Fetui would be available against the Bruins. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
