After surviving the early wake up call yesterday along with the rest of the nation, the boys are here to talk a little hockey and since we're hittin' the season halfway point more or less, we're throwing a curve ball and talkin' Team Canada, but this one's from the greatest (?!?) tourney ever played - the 1987 Canada Cup! With names like Gretzky, Lemieux, Messier, Hawerchuk, Coffey, Murphy and Fuhr, the squad in red and white was a who's who of the best in Canada at the time. We took on the world, and secured the cup in epic fashion, defeating the Soviet Union in game 3 of the best of 3 take all! There's never going to be another one like it, so go watch these games wherever you can Sparky! Then, we recap the double heartbreak from Italy, as both the Men's and Women's squads lose their quest for Olympic gold vs the USA - in overtime no less! Should 3 on 3 play determine the winners on such a worldwide scale? Could a 75% Sid helped the Canadian squad? Who got the easy A's graded for their play? And is it to early to look ahead to the French Alps in 2030?Then, we wrap up Garage League regular season play and hunt for 'tendys in the Pro Set Pack Attack!

Marty McSorley is a 2 time Stanley Cup Champion who played 17 seasons in the NHL. He is best known as Wayne Gretzky’s “protector” both with the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings., was a key part of the infamous 1988 trade that brought Gretzky to the Los Angeles Kings. Beyond being a straight enforcer, McSorley had some notable offensive skills and assisted on Gretzky’s goal that broke Gordie Howe’s all time NHL points record in March of 1994. Marty was also on the wrong side of the most impactful “Illegal stick” calls in NHL Stanley Cup history during the 1993 Stanley Cup final against the Montreal Canadians. McSorely tells some great stories about all of these and much more! Enjoy!!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week on Sports Cards Live, we're joined for an extended conversation by Jason Masherah, President of Upper Deck, covering what's changing in hockey, what's driving current momentum, and what collectors should understand about new product innovations. We start with quick show and community updates, including where things stand with POPs & COMPs as it moves through the Amazon review process, plus a Hobby Spectrum update as revised questions prepare to roll out based on collector feedback. Then Jason takes us inside Upper Deck's Certified Diamond Dealer Conference, why brick and mortar shops remain the lifeblood of the company, and how direct collector feedback still shapes product decisions even in a world of instant reactions from breaks, message boards, and social media. The centerpiece of Part 1 is the new Rookie Debut Game Jersey program landing in Upper Deck Extended. Jason breaks down: How Upper Deck is acquiring full debut jerseys (and why that matters) The three-tier structure (base jersey, jersey auto numbered to the player's number, and the 1/1 tag) Why Upper Deck chose natural, team-authenticated elements instead of adding a manufactured debut patch Why accessibility matters, not just building one monster 1/1 We close by zooming out: hockey's current rise, why some believe this is the biggest momentum since the Gretzky trade era, and a candid conversation about the hobby's mix of collectors vs flippers, including how “hybrid” behavior shows up in the real world. Follow, subscribe, and leave a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts and Spotify if you enjoy these conversations.Watch Sports Cards Live on YouTube and join the chat every Saturday night when we're live. Part 3 goes straight into the messiest debate in the hobby right now: card “work” that gets cards into PSA slabs, then quietly back onto the market. A Facebook thread shows collectors openly soaking and pressing Gretzky rookies using Kurt's Card Care, talking about submitting to PSA, and selling afterward. We walk through why that should scare buyers, even when the card ends up in a straight numeric holder. Then we address a comment that tried to lump Mr Minty into the same bucket. We draw a hard line between inspection tools that help you see a card more clearly and products or processes that change the card itself. The distinction matters, and confusing it muddies the conversation. The real core of this segment is the question behind the episode title: are all PSA cards truly the same if the label says the same number? We debate grade worship vs card worship, provenance, disclosure, whether experienced collectors can spot things graders miss, and what happens when the “fix” literally does not last. Where's your line? Microfiber wipe is fine, but what crosses it for you? Would you pay less for a slabbed card if you knew it was soaked or pressed, even if it is a “9”? If PSA offered a clearly labeled “altered” holder, would you want that market to exist or be banned outright? Subscribe for Part 4 and Part 5 as Episode 300 keeps building. This week on Enjoying Orange Slices with Jeff & Ian
Chris HOJ and Josh Adams join Jeremy for a loose but surprisingly revealing roundtable that starts with NFL playoff energy and quickly turns into real hobby discussion. The group digs into what actually makes a card show worth attending, how many tables matter, and why inventory quality almost always beats raw table count. They also talk honestly about travel costs, expectations, and how card shows have shifted from pure buying trips into social and relationship driven hobby experiences. From there, the conversation pivots into one of the most relatable collector debates out there: when a player changes teams, which uniform do they truly belong to? Using examples like Christian McCaffrey, Reggie Jackson, Michael Jordan, Ohtani, Gretzky, Nolan Ryan, and more, the panel explores how moments, championships, market size, hometown ties, and personal collecting boundaries shape how each collector answers that question differently. The discussion naturally spills into collecting behavior itself, including team collecting versus player collecting, why some collectors restrict uniforms to stay focused, when exceptions make sense, and how iconic moments often outweigh years played. The chat explodes with examples, disagreements, and edge cases, proving just how personal and subjective this topic really is. This segment is equal parts hobby philosophy, collector psychology, and pure Sports Cards Live banter, with strong audience participation and no single “right” answer, just thoughtful perspectives from every angle. NHL legend Bernie Nicholls takes host Neil Haley on a journey through his remarkable hockey career, from growing up in a tiny Canadian town of 75 people to scoring 70 goals in a single season and playing alongside the greatest hockey player of all time. Nicholls discusses how he broke the LA Kings' goal-scoring record the same year Wayne Gretzky joined the team, and how "The Great One's" arrival transformed not only the Kings franchise but hockey in California, leading to sold-out arenas and the creation of the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks. He explains the concept of how great players see the ice differently—how the game "slows down" for elite athletes with exceptional vision and hockey sense, a gift that cannot be taught but separates superstars from merely talented players.Nicholls reflects on his nine years with the Kings, experiencing the dramatic culture shock of moving from rural Canada to Los Angeles with palm trees and 70-degree weather, and later playing for the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, Chicago Blackhawks, and New Jersey Devils. He reached the conference finals four times but never won a Stanley Cup as a player, though he found redemption as a coach with the 2012 champion LA Kings. Throughout the conversation, Nicholls emphasizes hockey as the ultimate team sport where selfishness has no place, and discusses his current work on changing California's constitution to create a new sports economy, his passion for hunting, and his desire to be remembered as someone who competed with passion, worked hard every night, and truly loved the game. This episode offers rare insights into the mind of a hockey great and the golden era when Gretzky brought hockey fever to Southern California.

We hand the reins to our manager, Fiddy, and bring a lively panel together to relive the decade that shaped how we watch, listen, and eat.We kick off with the big question: were the 90s the true peak of sports dominance? From Jordan's Bulls to Gretzky and Lemieux, home run chases, and quarterbacks who defined eras, we tally the legends and ask if a decade could ever stack stars like that again. Then it's straight into the booth with John Madden and Pat Summerall—why their chemistry felt effortless and how their calls still echo in our heads. On the big screen, we revisit the Batman hype machine, the marketing that swallowed whole summers, and the films we still stop to watch—Heat, Forrest Gump, Mallrats, Billy Madison, Tombstone, Friday, and more.TV gets a full tour: 90210's taboo-breaking storylines, the TGIF routine, Seinfeld vs Friends, Fresh Prince, Married with Children, X-Files, Nickelodeon game shows, and the eerie charm of Are You Afraid of the Dark? Attention turns to Upper Deck and Jeremy does not hold back. He walks through the story behind the 2003 Exquisite Tribute Wayne Gretzky 1/1 from the new Cup release, comparing the slick solicitation image to the actual card that surfaced: a different patch and a badly smudged, weak gold autograph on what should be one of the key cards in the entire product. Jeremy explains why he thinks this is a failure at multiple levels. He questions why the mockup used a fantasy level patch that does not exist in the production run, why the autograph pen was not tested properly, and why the card was allowed to be packed out instead of being pulled and replaced with a redemption and a remade version. He is clear that he respects the people at Upper Deck but argues that this specific card makes the brand look careless at the top end of the market and that it crosses the line from acceptable variation into something that feels like bait and switch for a product that costs thousands per tin. From there, the conversation shifts into something Jeremy has been hinting at for months. He finally reveals the project he has been working on behind the scenes alongside his book: a collector identity assessment that maps hobbyists on a 0 to 100 collector–investor spectrum. He introduces the seven archetypes that live along that spectrum, from Purist and Nostalgic through Precisionist, Hybrid, Builder, Operator, and Tycoon, and explains how your answers place you into both a score range and a detailed written profile. Jeremy and Joe talk through why this spectrum exists, how it grew out of years of conversation about “collector vs investor,” and why most people live somewhere in between. They discuss how a shared set of archetypes can give the hobby clearer language, help collectors better understand their own motivations, and make conversations at shows and online more grounded in where people are actually coming from. Jeremy shares that the tool is in early beta with only a handful of people tested so far, that the core assessment is intended to be free, and that future layers will add modifiers, maturity progression within each archetype, and deeper optional insights. Gretzky rookie talk, Topps versus O Pee Chee, what population reports really tell you, and why more collectors are demanding strong eye appeal instead of just an old grade on the flip. Reaction to Dr Beckett's appearance on Hobby Hotline, the Geoff Wilson interview, and the fatigue many collectors feel around apology tours and “can we move on yet” discourse. Breakdown of the Snype launch issues after Rick Probstein's move off eBay, the site going dark on its first big night, worries about data and screenshots circulating on social, and what all of that means for any new auction platform. Discussion of fresh COMC rumors, a long time employee exiting, a tweet suggesting the company might be “in trouble,” and why broken telephone and the hobby rumor mill can distort reality fast. A full segment with Jeff Marren of Rockhurst Auctions covering how traditional auction houses handle reserves, why “active reserves” exist, why most lots actually run without reserves, how opening bids create momentum, what consignors misunderstand, and how bidders should assess whether to stay in or step out. Jeff's take on how eBay trained the hobby to chase last second “wins,” why many collectors are addicted to the idea of scoring under market, and how old hobby scars from scams and bad deals make drama based content so magnetic. If you enjoy these in depth hobby conversations:
Welcome to the DFO Rundown with Jason Gregor and Mike Rupp!Gregor and Rupp start by looking at the teams struggling in the West and what the Vancouver Canucks should do right now. Will Quinn Hughes be on the move out of Vancouver if struggles continue? The guys look at superstars who were traded mid-season and the rarity of a high-calibre player being moved at the deadline. Two teams with slightly surprising starts in the East are starting to fall back down to Earth. Who are you more concerned about — Pittsburgh or Montréal?JT Miller has come under fire for a lack of effort on a goal against Tuesday versus Vegas. Rupp breaks down the Rangers captain and what might be hampering the forward. Is the recent stretch by Pittsburgh more reflective of what was expected from this Penguins team? Was their hot start unsustainable? Is Benjamin Kindel the future for the Pittsburgh Penguins?Alex Ovechkin scored three more goals last night and tied Bobby Hull for the fifth-most hat tricks in NHL history. Ovi is 17 hat tricks behind the Great One, but another record is in sight as he sits eight games away from tying Gretzky for the most multi-goal games. How many goals will the Great Eight finish with in his career?Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin both sit in the top ten in NHL points. Given the success of Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid, plus the hot starts from even younger players like Macklin Celebrini and Connor Bedard, which active player will be next to break major records?Connor Hellebuyck is undergoing a minor arthroscopic knee procedure that will sideline him for 4–6 weeks. How concerned should the Jets and Team USA be?Next, Rupp gives his projected Team USA roster. Alex DeBrincat and Jason Robertson join the roster, while Brock Nelson and Clayton Keller drop out from his last projection. Do young players like Spencer Knight and Cutter Gauthier deserve spots on the American roster? Is Kiefer Sherwood a wildcard to make Team USA given his skill set?Gregor gives his Team Canada roster projections. Young guns Connor Bedard and Macklin Celebrini join his projected squad as Mark Stone and Seth Jarvis drop out. Jakob Chychrun is the only change on the back end for Gregor, as he replaces Travis Sanheim on the projected roster. Is Scott Wedgewood's start worthy of a spot as one of the three Canadian goaltenders?Lastly, the guys discuss the Mikko Rantanen hit on Alexander Romanov in the Stars–Isles game and the reaction from New York's coach, Patrick Roy.Want to hear more from Jason and the entire DFO team? This episode is brought to you by Caldera Lab and Audible. Author and mindset disruptor Carla Ondrasik unpacks the radical idea behind 'stop trying'. In Part 2 of our Fall 2025 Expo recap, the BoothMates crew goes deep into the pickups, stories, people, and pure hobby energy that made this show unforgettable. Jeremy, Sam, Jay Z, Daniel, and Josh continue the conversation from Part 1 — this time focusing on the cards that came home with them, the surprising deals that unfolded, and the post-Expo adrenaline that kept everyone buying even after the show closed. Jeremy kicks things off with the vintage pickup that haunted him from the moment he entered the show: a beautifully centered 1953 Parkhurst Maurice Richard PSA 1.5 with exceptional registration despite its light creasing. This leads into a long, thoughtful discussion about grade vs. eye appeal, registry chasing, and the real differences between buying numbers and buying cards. The crew shares stories of their own swaps, upgrades, and “upgrade by downgrade” moves — including a Gretzky deal that proves sometimes the lower grade is the better card. The episode then shifts into modern PC pickups, with Jeremy revealing a stack of SP Authentic Limited Autos, Ultimate patches, Emblems of Endorsement cards, Cup honorable numbers, and multiple Fleury, Crosby, Thornton, Nash, Francis, Ovechkin, Lemieux and Kucherov additions. Even after four full days at the booth, the guys laugh about making “post-Expo hotel room deals” because, as Sam says, the hobby doesn't stop when the show closes. There's also a powerful moment when a longtime Hobby Insider member Matt gifts Jeremy a funeral program from Dale Hawerchuk's memorial, a gesture that catches him off guard and nearly brings him to tears. The group talks about staying “in the hobby zone” after returning home, the upcoming Langley and Chicago Spectacular shows, and the joy of seeing collectors find cards they never expected — from a massive Steve Yzerman want list to Jason Allison binders to PC grails that made the trip worthwhile for collectors who flew across the continent. They wrap with Expo reflections: • the best show energy in years • corporate and community presence at an all-time high • the hobby family that forms around a shared booth • the Expo's continuing growth — more halls coming, more vendors, more momentum • and why the show feels less like a card show and more like a true annual event Part 2 closes with final highlights, gratitude, and plans for future Expos, the National, and beyond. BoothMates is all about the people first, cards second — and this episode is exactly why. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Happy Epilepsy Awareness Month from Talk About It! As the title says, this month is all about making people aware of epilepsy and what to do if you see someone having a seizure. Remember... STAY - Remain with the person until they are awake and alert. SAFE - Keep the person safe and move them away from harm. SIDE - Turn the person on their side and put something soft under their head. For this very special episode, we are talking about something that is SO IMPORTANT but is rarely shared with new parents, febrile seizures. Greg brings on his good friend Trevor Gretzky to share their terrifying story about his daughter having a febrile seizure, and having no idea what was happening or why. How is it possible that young parents aren't prepared for this given how common it is, and how can we all get the message out about febrile seizures? It starts with, you guessed it, talking about it! Do not miss this episode, this is SO important. Talk About It with Greg Grunberg is excited to be sponsored by Neurelis and by Jazz Pharmaceuticals.
Welcome to the DFO Rundown with Jeff Gregor and Mike Rupp!Gregor and Rupp start off the show discussing Rupp's Chicago Bulls fandom and whether he might have had a basketball career if he hadn't pursued hockey. What sport would you play or follow if not for hockey? Then we dive into Alexander Ovechkin's remarkable milestone of reaching 900 career goals. We discuss other elite players, past and present, who have hit major milestones or are on pace to do so. Will Connor McDavid or Sidney Crosby reach 2,000 points?Gregor highlights the incredible consistency and longevity of the Great One, Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky's goal record was once thought to be unbreakable; could we ever see a player approach his single-season points record of 215?The Anaheim Ducks have come out of the gates flying. Can the Ducks sustain this hot start and make a Stanley Cup run?Macklin Celebrini is tied with the likes of Jack Eichel and Connor McDavid atop the NHL points leaderboard. His 200-foot game has Canadian fans asking: will we see Celebrini don the red and white, and black, at the 2026 Olympics?Gregor and Rupp break down the controversial hit by Tyler Pitlick on Jalen Chatfield. Is the Minnesota Wild forward facing a multi-game suspension?Later, we play “Fill in the Blanks.”Morgan Geekie and Cutter Gauthier are surprise entries among the elite goal scorers after the first month of the season.Which basement-dwelling team from last season has a legitimate shot this year?Where will the PWHL expand next, following the release of Vancouver and Seattle's team names yesterday?Lastly, we discuss the sneaky strong start from the Boston Bruins. The start is surprising, and while the guys don't think the Bruins will make the playoffs, they love what they're seeing from Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm. Can the Bruins squeak into a playoff spot come April?Gregor's "ferocious, killer" dog Maple makes a guest appearance as the guys wrap up the show.Want to hear more from Jason and the entire DFO team? Children often feel mixed emotions when a new adult enters their lives. They wonder if they can trust them, laugh with them, or look up to them. A common mistake step-parents make is expecting respect right away without considering how the child feels. My guest today, Brother Harold Gretzky, shares his experience with blending families. He also shares how his experience serving in the United States Navy taught him lessons in honesty, integrity, and transparency that can help anyone navigate relationships and life challenges.Early Childhood Memories (00:06:34 – 00:15:07)· Brother Gretzky shares several memories from his childhood. He grew up near a Cold War missile base and strawberry farms, and he fondly remembers family stories about his grandfathers.· He talks about the family's move from Queens to Michigan, which brought them to an engineering town because of his father's invention in bowling technology with the Brunswick pin setter. · Brother Gretzky recalls riding his red Schwinn bike and attending Catholic catechism, even though he sometimes would have preferred staying home to watch his favorite cartoons.Sailing & Family Bonding (00:19:13 – 00:24:19)· A major part of Brother Gretzky's youth was competitive sailing. His father built a sailboat from scratch, a symbol of both ingenuity and family teamwork. · He describes their weekly Sunday races, his father's growing skill as a skipper, and how sailing became their main outlet. It also taught important life lessons, like sportsmanship and perseverance.Learning Accountability and Command through Navy Life (00:25:44 – 00:41:00)· Brother Gretzky's time at the Naval Academy and on submarines shaped his views on leadership and responsibility. · He shares dramatic moments, including surviving storms at sea, handling reactor crises, and receiving critical instructions from commanding officers. · These experiences gave him a deep respect for command responsibility and the importance of owning mistakes, both in the military and later in civilian nuclear work. The Power of Honesty (00:43:16 – 00:46:38)· Brother Gretzky shares one of his core lessons: when something goes wrong, bring it forward. He learned this principle under high stakes on submarines and in nuclear power.· As he says, "If you're honest with yourself, there's always hope." He applies the same mindset to everyday life, including home mishaps and personal relationships.Stepfatherhood & Parenting Wisdom (00:48:07– 00:49:31)· Reflecting on his years as a stepfather, Brother Gretzky openly shares the ups and downs of blending families. · He advises that the title "dad" must be earned and that stepfathers should not get caught up in labels. · Brother Gretzky expresses pride in his three adult stepchildren's successes, crediting their achievements to a nurturing yet realistic approach to parenting.“Don't get wrapped up in expecting a stepchild to call you ‘dad' because that isn't the truth. The title ‘dad' has to be earned. That was the mistake we made at first. When we first got married, we went through some rough spots. I am so pleased that I now have a great relationship with my three stepchildren, and that they've all grown into such amazing adults.” - Brother Harold Gretzky.

Jeremy and Dylan gush over modern executions of vintage designs—Topps Chrome refractor tributes (think '52 Mantle), Heritage retrofractors, and even OPC “blast from the past”-style rookies—and why some tributes can look better than the originals. Joe shares a missed Ohtani Topps Heritage 1/1 (yes, Superfractor, not “gold vinyl”), and Dylan makes the case for enjoying vintage players on modern tech as a smart, budget-friendly lane. Mid-segment, Mikey Singer (Sport Card Expo/Strongsville) pops in to show his completed 1990–92 Upper Deck Heroes auto run, plug next week's VGLX gaming show, and share November Expo details—including on-site grading. Highlights Why refractor/retrofractor tributes of icons (Mantle, Hank, Nolan, Gretzky) can out-aesthetic the originals Heritage Retrofractor full-set love (hockey) and why “modern retro” scratches the vintage itch Prism/Optic vs Topps Chrome: year-to-year design, surface “shine,” and where Fanatics needs to improve Dylan's encouragement to vintage die-hards: try shiny—safely and cheaply Intermission with Mikey Singer: Completed UD Heroes autographs run ('90–'92) VGLX gaming & culture show (video games, TCG, indie devs, AMD/MSI free-play, cosplay) Sport Card Expo Toronto (Nov 6–9): PSA & Beckett on-site; TAG taking subs; stage/Q&A teasers Nostalgia side quest: Vectrex mini chatter + retro consoles Listen + support Follow Sports Cards Live on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and please leave a quick rating or review. We close out with Chris HOJ and Josh Adams and dig into hobby risk and reward. We revisit the Gretzky vs Messi debate, then unpack PSA's guarantee caps and what happens when a pop two becomes a pop one after an autograph. We talk through why someone might crack a seven-figure Gretzky, the record price for an autographed rookie, and whether you would rather have a 10 holder or a 9 with a 10 auto. Chris shares two telling charts on Fanatics Collect Premier: trading card lots climbing from ~120 early in the year to ~400 this month. We consider post-National consignment waves, private deals moving to public auctions, and simple supply and demand. Josh recaps his 90s auction, explains smart consolidation into a grail, and we each answer whether the current surge makes us sell or hold. We finish on whether a modern card holding the all-time record feels right, and why some vintage pieces may still be more valuable even without a recent public sale. We continue with Graig Miller and Leighton Sheldon, then bring on Chris HOJ and Josh Adams before Graig and Leighton sign off. Leighton puts a real-world choice to the panel: 1992 Upper Deck Michael Jordan 15,000 Point Club PSA 10 around a thousand, or 1993 Ultra Power in the Key PSA 9 around thirteen hundred. We walk through a clean decision framework that weighs playing-days status, design appeal, pop counts, grade premiums, and how much future value should matter when you are buying for joy. Josh casts his vote for the 15,000 Point Club, and Chris explains why earlier inserts and lower pops can be decisive. We close with a market gut check using Messi's surging Megacracks PSA 10 and a Gretzky comparison. Chris lays out recent public private sales, pops, and why skepticism can be healthy when prices sprint. We also touch on league scale, cultural pull, and what “GOAT” means when you try to price it. Highlights A practical head-to-head: MJ 15,000 Point Club PSA 10 vs Power in the Key PSA 9 How to break ties: playing days, aesthetics, pop reports, and budget discipline Chat perspectives on collecting for love vs future value Messi Megacracks PSA 10 run, pop context, and why to sanity-check bull markets Gretzky as a useful comp when defining GOAT and market depth Segment ends with Jeremy, Chris, and Josh Recorded: Saturday, September 13, 2025 Sponsor Note: Go to hellofresh.com/cards10fm now to get 10 free meals plus a free item for life, one per box with active subscription free meals applied as a discount on the first box. Leighton Sheldon joins Jeremy and Graig Miller and we keep the trio together through the end of this part. We start with Strongsville chatter and a Savannah Bananas detour, then dive into the Messi vs Gretzky question. From there it is vintage talk in a frothy market, including being priced out of grails like 1914 and 1915 Cracker Jack Shoeless Joe Jackson, how to pivot without quitting, and why lowering grade expectations can unlock iconic cards. Leighton previews AuctionWire.ai for live auction discovery, and we swap stories about provenance, kid handwriting on the backs, and why value vintage boxes can hook new collectors. We wrap by agreeing the thrill of the hunt keeps the hobby fun, even when prices are tough. Highlights Strongsville vibes and first takes on Savannah Bananas cards Messi vs Gretzky and how worldwide relevance intersects with hobby demand When a grail runs away: consolidate, pivot, or lower the slab grade target Cracker Jack Shoeless Joe, Jordan inserts, and strategies when pricing surges AuctionWire.ai preview for tracking live auctions and fixed price marketplaces Provenance and story value: writing on cards, original owner paths, loved copies Value vintage boxes and easy entry points for new collectors Part concludes with Jeremy, Graig, and Leighton still on the mics Recorded: Saturday, September 13, 2025 Sponsor Note: Go to hellofresh.com/cards10fm now to get 10 free meals plus a free item for life, one per box with active subscription free meals applied as a discount on the first box. We continue with Joe Poirot from Santa Cruz and Graig Miller of Midlife Cards to unpack the PSA ex-employee interview, NDAs, research room mechanics, potential bias, and why transparency and grader notes still lag. Jeremy recalls a 2009 PSA tour, we react to regrade experiments and consistency concerns, and debate what is truly bubble resistant: low supply icons or well centered, high eye appeal copies. Then it is the set registry's relevance, whether graders should be certified and better paid, and Joe signs off while teeing up a Messi vs Gretzky GOAT question for later. Highlights NDA takeaways and research room vs grading room implications Tours, grader notes, and whether new tech equals tougher grading Regrade experiments, inconsistency, and the cost of resubs What holds value best: low supply icons vs centered, high eye appeal copies Set registry reality: leaderboard vs true card quality Should graders be certified and paid like professionals Part wraps with Joe's exit and a Messi vs Gretzky prompt for later Recorded: Saturday, September 13, 2025 Learn more about your ad choices. In this Summer Coolers edition of NHL Wraparound, Neil Smith and Vic Morren head to the nation's capital to break down the Washington Capitals, a team coming off a quietly dominant 2024–25 regular season... and a playoff run that ended just as quietly.Washington finished with 111 points, 1st in the Metro, and 2nd overall in the NHL—yet fizzled in the second round against Carolina after dispatching Montreal in five games. SEASON 3 EPISODE 117: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump has already LOST the tariff wars he finally claimed he paused yesterday (without really pausing). Already. Took him only eight days. From Liberation Day to a day when in any other war, literal or figurative, he would have been deposed - 8 days. And never mind how much YOU AND I think he’s crazy; a high-priced adviser to macro fund managers says “a few have quietly wondered if the president might be insane." And after Wall Street came off the ledge and got back to where it was Monday – only, what, seven trillion lost – he declared victory. “Up 2500 points. Nobody has ever heard of it. Gotta be a record.” Because he can’t admit he made a mistake; his head would fall off. His approval numbers have cratered. He’s underwater by an AVERAGE of six points. LAST Wednesday it was an average of TWO points. Since the election he’s lost 20 points among those over age 65; he’s lost 50 points among those under age 30. And he still raised the tariffs on the Chinese again – to 125 percent – because he’s mad at them. Because they of course are winning. Because the Chinese are not negotiating; the Chinese are as they have been for centuries, waiting for their opponents to DIE. The Chinese are apparently dumping our 10-Year Treasuries, driving up our debt. And they’ve opened trading partnership negotiations with the head of the European Union. And for all the claims about pausing the tariffs, a universal TEN percent tariff will be maintained. He didn't pause anything. He simply lost everything. B-Block (27:10) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Joe Manchin writes a book celebrating his middle of the road bona fides. The cover photo shows only the right half of his face, naturally. Marjorie Stupid Greene reveals she does not know what the word "Merch" means. And the president of the hockey writers' association, a bonehead named Frank Seravalli, not only defends Wayne Gretzky's attacks on Canada but his bringing FBI Director and Election Denier Kash Patel to the Ovechkin game - and calls CRITICISM of those decisions "political BS." Instead of, maybe, calling out Gretzky for BRINGING political BS into a moment of sports history. C-Block (49:15) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: She's still at it. Even as Trump's boasts of pausing the tariffs while INCREASING them on China and maintaining them on everybody else, Laura Ingraham is still carrying his water for him. It's time for me to review my dates with her last century, and the extraordinary revelation she made during the first of them about the then-nascent Republican-Media Industrial Complex.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

SEASON 3 EPISODE 116: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: I want polling on a special, emergency, extra-constitutional Presidential Recall Vote. I know there isn't going to BE a Presidential Recall Vote. I know we're not going extra-constitutional, we're not REPUBLICANS dammit. But they are always making up laws (inside the Supreme Court and outside of it) on the premise that the people really want it, so after this week of unprecedented insane unnecessary failure on the part of Trump and his Team of Imbecilic Rivals, I want to know where we stand. Because the moment we get 10 Republicans in the House and 14 in the Senate to believe that if Trump stays in office, their careers are over, he's gone. Half of them think he's nuts already and a quarter have had doubts. They need to be pushed and I don't want to wait until the mid-terms for them to get the damned message I want SOME pollster - independent, news-related, hired by the Democrats, SOMEBODY - to ask these questions: 1) if the election were re-run today would you vote for Trump or a Democrat. Or another Republican. Or a fairly intelligent farm animal. 2) would you support a special recall vote to potentially reverse the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. 3) would you describe the current financial panic and the upcoming tsunami of inflation and unemployment as a national emergency. 4) do you think Donald Trump has lost his mind. 5) do you think Donald Trump is mentally fit to run the country. 6) do you think Donald Trump is acting to destroy the United States on behalf of a foreign country. 7) do you think it is necessary to act outside the constitution if necessary to save the United States of America FROM Donald Trump. 8) if the midterm elections for the Senate and the House were tomorrow would you vote Republican or Democratic? WHATEVER the percentages are they could easily scare the crap out of 10 House Republicans and 14 Senate Republicans and the day they do, Trump vanishes. You doubt me? Ask Richard Nixon. Ask Abraham Lincoln, whom they were ready to get rid of seven months before Lee surrendered at Appomattox because they thought he wasn't going to be re-elected. Also is it possible the Democrats are listening to me? Obama emerges to spout sense, as I've asked. The DNC Chair founds "The People's Cabinet." All we need now is POLLING ON A PRESIDENTIAL RECALL VOTE. B-Block (31:28) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: The Pittsburgh Pirates rip a Roberto Clemente memorial off their outfield wall to make room for an ad for seltzer, a Republican influencer insists there are no tariffs on Russia because we don't import anything from Russia (we import $2.5 Billion a year from Russia), and the Secretary of the Treasury wants YOU to buy American while he buys British. (41:28) SPORTSBALLCENTER: Alexander Ovechkin DOES have more goals than Wayne Gretzky now, but no, that's still not the big league hockey record (and Gretzky managed to throw himself out another window during the celebrations) and the date of the first American, maybe the first human, to be photographed giving the finger to the cameraman has to be pushed back from 1886 to 1882 after a discovery this weekend about baseball Hall of Famer Old Hoss Radbourn. C-Block (55:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: I have been asked by a listener to expand on last week's news that Chuck Todd not only does not realize that his news career is over but he thinks investors are going to give him $2,000,000,000 to go buy a news organization now. The answer to the question "Chuck Todd: Why?"See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Today's word of the day is ‘embarrassing' as in winless as in Atlanta as in the Braves as in disappointing. What happened to the Braves? 0-7 to start the season. Last winless team. No team to start 0-7 has EVER made the postseason! (12:40) Alex Ovechkin is so close to making NHL history. He's 3 goals away from passing Gretzky for most all time. Networks are doing everything to get the game that breaks it. 7 games to go! (19:30) The NHL just signed a huge deal with Rogers in Canada. 12 years for $7.7 billion! (32:40) Review: Companion. (35:00) What is going on with Ja Morant? Warned on Thursday about gun gestures during games and what does he do Thursday night? (48:00) We have another Tropicana Field update! Roof fixing is here.
