From Dropkick Murphys to the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, the punk band Rebuilder has some memorable times on stage — and later this month, they'll be making some new memories when they play at Boston Calling. Sal Ellington (vocals, guitar) joins us to talk about what's in store for their set, and the bands he's looking forward to seeing. We talk about their times with the Murphys and Bosstones and other story-worthy shows they've done. Sal talks about being nominated multiple times for Best Punk Band in Boston by the Boston Music Awards and how it felt to win. He shares the band's origin story, their most recent release, “Local Support,” as well as what's planned for later this year. Closing out this episode is the song “One Hundred Days,” our personal favorite from “Local Support.”
Pick it up (please)! Its a ska special in MLPP Towers this week, and what better way to usher in the summer than to have a chat with Save Ferris' very own Monique Powell! She's been in movies, toured the world and gets mentioned in autobiographies and has taken time to speak with the fat lads about being mates with Two-Tone legends, Bro Culture, living in Birmingham, protesting and most importantly, Save Ferris' upcoming new releases and tour.Sadly there is no Aldi report this week as it wasn't Tom's turn to go. But we do have: Niallism gets the memo about the ska special, being inspired in your sleep, a tasty reminder of our flurry of Manchester Punk Festival activity and for the first ever time, we feel the need to tell people off. You've let me down, you've let the podcast down...etc etc.Music this week is by: Another One, The Slackers, Madness, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Sadaxe
The guys re-invite two close friends and beloved guests, Tim and Mike, to talk about ska music... specifically, the lyrics to the only ska song that hit number one in the 90's: The Impression That I Get by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Is it a sweet song? Do the lyrics read like the singer muttering to himself? It could be a bit of both. Special Guests: Mike Cosden and Tim Clark.

Today we're talking about the closing tracks (last songs) on albums that we believe to be amongst the best of the best in hardcore, metal and punk. A lost art that used to be placed with the intention of being the ultimate last statement and definitive piece of a record, but is now used as the place to dump the song that gets the least streams. We are here today to celebrate this beautiful pastime by paying tribute to these epic sonic journeys that end some of our favorite records ever. Enjoy. I was able to sit down and chat with Shannon Wilson from the Dayton/Cincinnati, OH based band, Bandages, to chat about their new S/T record and single, "Perfect Hit" featuring Joe Gittleman from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. They are definitely in the rock and punk spectrum but don't fall in any particular sub-genre nor try to align to any specific sound. I personally love that about this band. If you've been paying attention to the politics in the United States of America at all, you'll clearly understand what "Perfect Hit" is all about, intuitively. That said, Shannon and I had a great conversation about their band, politics, health care, and all the good things they have in front of them. You can keep up with them at:Bandages:https://www.instagram.com/bandages_music/https://www.bandagesmerch.comhttps://bandages1.bandcamp.com/Thank you for your continued support!Brett JohnsonHost of B-Side Breakdownhttps://www.instagram.com/bsidebreakdownhttps://www.instagram.com/threecrowsclubhttps://www.instagram.com/brettjamesjohnsonhttps://linktr.ee/brettjohnson#Bandages #PerfectHit #ShannonWilson #JoelGittleman #MightyMightyBosstones #bsidebreakdown #threecrowsclub #brettjamesjohnson #musicpodcast
Pick it up ! Mighty Mighty Bosstones. - The Impression That I Get (Album : Let's Face It - 1997) Operation Ivy - Unity (Album : Energy - 1989) Sublime - Same In The End (Album : Sublime - 1996)

This week on The Rumors Are True podcast, they featured Joe Nixon, the drummer from the punk rock band Slick Shoes. Joe shared insights into his career and the band's journey, including their return to the scene after a long hiatus and the release of their 2020 album Rotation & Frequency, their first full-length project in over 17 years. Slick Shoes, known for their energetic skate-punk style and Christian punk influences, has been a favorite in both secular and Christian music circles since the 1990s. In the podcast, Nixon discusses the evolution of his drumming style, the challenges the band faced over the years, and how they've navigated changes in the music industry while keeping their loyal fan base. The band's long break between albums and their experiences touring with iconic acts like MxPx and Mighty Mighty Bosstones are also covered, giving listeners a deeper understanding of their place in punk rock history. For those who love nostalgic punk or are new to Slick Shoes, Nixon's appearance offers a great inside look at the highs and lows of being part of a legendary band that helped define a generation of punk music fans. This week, we're thrilled to be joined by Joe and Toby of the Riffs on Riffs podcast to dive into the compelling story of mid-90s artist Tracy Bonham and her iconic hit “Mother Mother.” Tracy, a classically trained musician for over a decade, collaborated with producers who had helped bring Radiohead and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones to the ears of millions, infusing her music with a unique blend of alternative rock and classical influences. Despite her immense talent, record label issues stalled her career before she could fully achieve mainstream success. This week Tom & Zeus review the 1994 KISS tribute album, "KISS My Ass Classic KISS Regrooved." To coincide with KISS' 20th Anniversary, the band decided to organize a tribute album featuring today's hottest rock acts. Artists like Lenny Kravitz, Anthrax, Gin Blossoms and more interpreted classic KISS songs. KISS was even able to get the biggest act of the 1990's Garth Brooks to perform "Hard Luck Woman." Some artist were pretty straight forward with their covers, while others took big chances, like Toad The Wet Sprocket on "Rock And Roll All Nite", The Mighty Mighty Bosstones on "Detroit Rock City" and a supergroup made up of Tool, Rage Against The Machine and Faith No More called Shandi's Addiction with their version of "Calling Dr. Love." The guys breakdown the track selection and rank the songs and treat this like a compilation album, so they then rank the compilation album and cover versus the previous reviewed compilation albums. Inspired by the energy, the soul and the message of classic ska, The Slackers have truly become legends themselves over the past 33 years. They first came together in New York City back in the early '90s, and studied at the feet of the masters, including members of Jamaican ska originators the Skatalites, who had relocated to the States. The Slackers rose to prominence alongside a wave of ska-oriented artists who came to fame in that decade, in what became known as "Third Wave Ska". However, long after Third Wave hitmakers like The Mighty Mighty Bosstones had sort of faded away, The Slackers remained true to their roots, and have continued to craft vibrant, original and important music for the past 33 years and counting. Lead singer/ lyricist/ multi-instrumentalist Vic Ruggiero and sax player David Hillyard have been doing this a long time. So, it's remarkable how much freshness and sense of purpose they perpetually bring to everything they do. The band's now legendary series of livestream concerts from New York during the early days of the pandemic are a great example of how they continue to lead the musical charge with imagination, originality and a sense of community. That run of livestreams eventually led to the Billboard chart-topping album Don't Let the Sunlight Fool Ya, along with a series of reissues of their past discography via Pirates Press Records – also home to punk and ska luminaries like Rancid, the Aggrolites, and Subhumans. Long after the days of those global livestreams, The Slackers continue to connect globally with fans across the world. Alberta is a shining example of this. The band is very well-loved here, and both Vic and David have plugged into the scene here for music projects of their own, performing and/or recording with Albertan luminaries like Jory Kinjo and Audrey Ochoa. But there hadn't been a proper Slackers tour through Alberta in seven years! At least, not until June of 2024, when they played sold-out shows in Edmonton and Calgary- which represented the last of the tour dates they had to postpone back in 2020. Befor playing those shows though, they kicked off their Alberta tour with a stop at CKUA studios for this epiosde of Hidden Track Stories! They shared an insightful, fun, heartfelt conversation about their roots, their latest record, and what drives them to create meaningful music about... stuff. The Hidden Track Podcast is made possible by the generosity of our donour community. Thank you for your support! Jake BrennanTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Jake Brennan. You probably know Jake as the creator and host of the immensley popular Disgraceland podcast; but you are about to learn a bit more about him! In this episode, we chat about Jake growing up in Clinton, Mass. in the burgeoning punk / hardcore scene. We talk about his early musician days with Cast Iron Hike, and Bodega Girls, and what led him in the direction of music in the first place. One of Jake's bands even opened up for The Mighty Mighty Bosstones at a Hometown Throwdown! We talk about Victory Records, Island Records, Def Jam Records, and even how George H.W. Bush and the C.I.A. are connected to Bob Marley. We touch on Helter Skelter and Chaos by Tom O'Neill, and how those two stories helped inspire Disgraceland. I get Jake to explain exactly what the hell a MELLOTRON is, and why he decided to rely on it for the opening of his music-based true crime podcast. Then we get into his years with Bodega Girls, and how that came about; before he lets me play my favorite song of theirs (Surf's Up America). Jake explains the origin story of Disgraceland, and we touch on some of my favorite episodes, featuring: Jerry Lee Lewis, Jim Morrison, Bob Marley, and John Denver. I pry into how Double Elvis Media unfolded, and we talk about a few of the podcasts under that banner. Obviously, I have to know all about the April Fool's Day fiasco, and when we can look forward to another one. Super big thanks to Jake for sitting down with me and sharing the details on some of the things that work, and some that don't; when trying to capture the attention of new listeners, plus, what one can expect by being an ALL ACCESS supporter. Dicky Barrett sang in the Mighty Mighty Bosstones for 39 years, and announced for the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show for 18 years. In 2022, his stance on COVID vaccines seemingly ended both careers. Nowadays he writes and sings in 90s punk supergroup The Defiant, alongside members of Smash Mouth, the Offspring, the Street Dogs, and the Briggs. He joins Hornpod to share stories about the earliest days and highest heights of U.S. ska, as well as his place in the world these days. Hornpod theme written by Matt Wixson. Dicky Barrett from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones talks with Crowley about his new supergroup The Defiant, why the heck they haven't scheduled a Colorado date yet, and reflects on phone addiction.
This is episode 160 and our guest for the second time is Sammy Kay. Sammy is a songwriter from New Jersey who now makes his home in Cincinnati, Kentucky. He is a dear sweet soul who has lived a fascinating life. We have gotten to know each other over the last year and some change and I am grateful for the connection we have formed. Sammy is always working and you will hear about those projects during our chat. Most notably the debut EP from his band The Kilograms with J Duckworth, Joe Gittleman, and Michael McDermott is now available wherever you consume music. This is essentially me and Sammy shooting the shit and I hope y'all enjoy it as much as we did.
The Mighty Mighty BosstoneS' Dicky Barrett celebrates the recent release of 'If We're Really Being Honest,' the debut LP from his new band, the Defiant.

Dickey not only talks about the band and about it's unfortunate break up, he also talks about his new band The Defiant (featuring former members of The Offspring and Smash Mouth). Their self-titled debut album, which came out last Fall, is a real blast! Dickey also talks about his career in radio and about being the former announcer on The Jimmy Kimmel show for 20 years! Dicky BarrettTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Richard Michael Barrett. Better know as Dicky; he is also called The Godfather of Skacore. Dicky is former frontman and founding member of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and current frontman and founder of the new super group The Defiant. In this episode, we chat about how he came to be the bow-tied plaid leader of The Bosstones, and some of the cool things he got to do along the way. He tells the story of getting to open for The Misfits while he was still in high school, as well as getting to play Fenway Park many years later. Dicky shares stories of meeting and befriending Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel when they were just getting started; and some of the fun things he got to do as a result of these friendships. Adam uses Bosstones' songs in the intro and outro of his Adam Carolla Show podcast; and Dicky was the announcer for Jimmy Kimmel Live for nearly 20 years. Of course, I ask Dicky if I can play my all time favorite MMB song... and he says yes! Obviously we discuss how MMB ended up in the cult classic iconic film Clueless, and what made them decide to do it. Next, Dicky explains what happened between him and the other Bosstones, as well as his relationship with the Jimmy Kimmel Live late night show. Finally, we discuss his new band The Defiant. This super group features former members of: The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Offspring, Smash Mouth, Street Dogs, and The Briggs. The Defiant is: Pete Parada, Greg Camp, Johnny Rioux, Joey LaRocca, and Dicky Barrett. Their debut album "If We're Being Honest" was released in late October 2023. Naturally I ask him if I can play my favorite song from this new album.... and Dicky said yes again! I had such a blast talking with Dicky, I think we are best friends now! Don't be surprised if you hear more from Dicky on Fascination Street Podcast. This dude is rad as balls. Thanks Dicky! And thanks Mike Dawson, you know what you did.

Alright Travis! This week something told us to not discount Miss Geist, and frankly, as if. We're finally discussing Clueless! We have much to say about the queer and cringe of Christian, Dionne being the smartest person in the room, Best Supporting Brittany Murphy and the critical importance of Ambular, who would never wear something from Judy's. The Cher and Josh love story may always feel like a bit of a Monet and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones may be a glaring reminder of the 90s ska craze, but this movie is an otherwise total Betty that we will certainly see again, and we hope not sporadically. "Leisureland" Although he was born Eric Goulden in East Sussex, my guest today on the program is perhaps best known in the music industry as Wreckless Eric. Under that moniker he first garnered attention with his song The Whole Wide World, a shambolic blast of joyful punk that landed him a deal with Stiff Records. At the time, Stiff was just getting going and they had Ian Dury Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe on their roster. Not too shabby. The art school graduate was more than just one killer song--since the '70s he's cranked out almost ten perfect solo albums of scruffy pop magic that demonstrate Wreckless Eric is a singular and very special talent. His new album Leisureland is the perfect album to play while you're saying goodbye to summer. Wistful, nostalgic and equal parts ferocious and elegant, Leisureland is filled with ragtag pop, garage stomp, and percussive muscle augmented by beats and loops. And it's fabulous. Over the years he's played with The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Damned, John Wesley Harding, The Proclaimers, and his wife Amy Rigby. His work has been covered by everyone from Cage the Elephant, to Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong. He's also been in a lot of bands like The Len Bright Combo, The Hitsville House Band, and The Donovan of Trash and the fact is, everything he does is wonderful and brilliant and infectious. The guy is the real deal. www.wrecklesseric.com www.bombshellradio.com www.embersarts.com STEREO EMBERS THE PODCAST Twittter: @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast EMAIL: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com
This week I have long time friend Joey LaRocca from the band The Briggs, and he started a new band called The Defiant with past members of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Street Dogs, The Offspring, and Smash Mouth, I can't wait to hear it! We go back about 20 years and he's seen me play in my bands in all shapes and sizes, we reflect on what it used to be like to book your own tours and how music has drastically changed. We also talk about how I filled in on drums for The Briggs. The post Joey LaRocca- The Briggs, The Defiant appeared first on idobi Network.
The first CD Sadie Dupuis saved up her own money to purchase was "Let's Face It" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. The first concert she begged her mom to take her to was No Doubt. And on a recent NPR segment, Sadie talked about the huge influence The Selecter's Pauline Black had on her. Pauline, through example, taught her that music could be a political toolThese days Sadie plays in the indie-rock band Speedy Ortiz, and she also releases music under the moniker Sad13. But she hasn't forgotten about her love for ska. In fact, she makes a plea to JER for a Sadie Dupuis / Skatune Network collaboration. (Hopefully, you're listening JER!) We also get into a lot more, like how Sadie's parents worked at record labels in the 70s. Her mom worked at the UK ska/reggae label Rock Steady Records. We talk about how The Specials' "Ghost Town" is a perfect song, we discuss the ska leanings of 100 gecs. And she talks about sending an AIM message to I Voted For Kodos. We also talk about booking MySpace tours, Sinéad O'Connor, and her love for Weezer. (Her favorite non-album track is "Blast Off!!"). We also talk about a ska band Sadie played in when she was a kid called "Walker Exists." They had no bass player! (She also mentions the ska band that Kevin Bacon's kid used to play in.) We talk about her songwriting process, fostering dogs, and get into the 2 Tone ska influences on the Brit-pop genre. But most importantly, she tells us her AOL and AIM screen names from back in the day. They both are ska-related. Be sure and check out Speedy Ortiz's new album Rabbit Rabbit, which releases on Sept 1! Support the show

Adam opens the show chatting about a tornado shelter at the Denver airport. He then recalls a few of the buskers he passed by in Boulder on his way to lunch. Next, his old friend Dicky Barrett of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones joins Adam on stage and the two reminisce about their history together and some of their favorite Bossstones songs, including this show's theme song. The two laugh about an old performance on Conan which leads to Adam recalling some of the big festivals they would play together. Gina and Bryan then join the program for a Denver-themed round of the Rotten Tomatoes Game. Then Gina reports news stories about passwords and balsamic vinegar Tik Tok challenges. Lastly, Adam performs a round of "Unprepared."
