The guys welcome back regular contributor Dave Nonis to wrap a BUSY trade season. Nonis spoke on trade deadline, and the snowball of trades kicked-off by the New York Islanders and Lou Lamoriello. The former NHL GM gave an in-depth look at front offices and how they assess their needs, why ‘swinging for the fences' with a big trade target doesn't always work out, and how depth off-season additions are often more valuable. In Headlines, the guys discuss the New York Rangers growing pains and Ray questions whether Kane and Panarin can rekindle the fire they had with the Blackhawks. A fan forcing the reporting of Ryan O'Reilly's finger injury, McDavid's chances of hitting 70 goals, and shake-ups made by the Golden Knights and Minnesota Wild are also covered. What has made the Boston Bruins SO good this season?? Already atop the NHL standings, and riding a 10-game winning streak, the Bruins dominance is examined. Plus, assessing the ‘new era' Vancouver Canucks under head coach Rick Tocchet. Kris Abbott is in another timezone as part of his Betano duties, the guys dive into golf and The Player's Championship odds. Dregs recounts his golf draft and a ‘dark-horse' tip from Ray he hopes PAYS off. Plus, Max Homa's twitter presence, and pro golfer's showing their personality more than ever. In Ask R+D, Ray is asked about NHLPA player reps, and which coach he wish he could've played for. Dregs speaks on his friendship with the polarizing Mike Keenan, and shares a legendary Scott Bowman story. The guys talk hockey people who they might not have always gotten along with, and Dregs talks curling courtesy of Ask R+D's number one fan, Bryan Mudryk! Send in your questions for the guys on twitter using #AskRayandDregsAnything. The wickedly talented, remarkably hungover Christian McCann drops back into the pod to talk about his only personality trait: hockey. If you like insurance fraud, broadway plays, or describing labor stoppages using the imagery of an ancient greek myth turned modern broadway musical....you're soooo in luck! This one has three pretty clear acts. Act 1: about 18 minutes of trying our best to choke out any words through the thickened hazy fog of a Disonysian-level hangover. Act 2: The NHLPA's founding executive director, Alan Eagleson, committing a litany of crimes against the players he was meant to represent. Act 3: The introduction of the salary cap -- a move that limits a lot of player's maximum earning potential -- in 2005, as told through poetic and beautiful storytelling. Thanks for listening! Rough luck for the Detroit Red Wings, as their season may be in trouble with what is essentially an entire 1st line missing from the roster... How did Hellberg do in his (overshadowed) debut? All of that & more (13:20). We also discuss Detroit's season outlook with Dylan Larkin, Tyler Bertuzzi, Jakub Vrana, Filip Hronek, and Olli Maatta all out of the lineup. Are the playoffs a pipedream? Can they stay in the mix? Ray's feeling like a ‘Rockstar' after seeing Post Malone live in-concert with his boys, but it was another celebrity making noise in the hockey world this week. Ray and Dregs kick things off talking Deadpool aka. Ryan Reynolds and the hype surrounding his interest in buying the Ottawa Senators. The Boston Bruins signing, and subsequent un-signing, of Malcolm Miller has been a mess from start-to-finish: NHLPA ramifications, lack of foresight for the victim, and the onus of responsibility needed from Miller's parents are discussed. On the ice, the Bruins are rolling, while their most-recent opponent is not. The St. Louis Blues are now on a 7-game slide, the guys ponder if there's a disconnect between the team and coaches, and talk star players needing to step into their roles. Western Canadian teams are all taking some L's recently. Edmonton Oilers' penalty killing, and Calgary Flames' growing pains are amongst reasons for concern in those markets. However, the Vancouver Canucks issues seem to be reaching a boiling point. Canucks President, Jim Rutherford's thinly veiled comments at Head Coach Bruce Boudreau, along with captain Bo Horvat's pending UFA status, and a lacklustre record; might just spell the end for this core. The guys examine whether or not a rebuild could be coming on the Westcoast. Kris Abbott has his voice back and is using it to shed light on the “1” blemish on Ray's 5-1 NFL picks record. He recounts a rollercoaster of emotion as he came oh-so-close to hitting his first-half Bills/Jets bet. Kris shifts focus to the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and betting on their shaky goaltending to yield a return for his pocketbook. Ask R+D sees questions on the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals ahead of Ovy and Sid's 63rd regular season battle, McDavid's ever-growing spotlight overshadowing other stars, and Ray's eclectic taste in music; from Kenny G to Posty! The NHL season is underway and naturally, there are some fan bases who are concerned about how their teams started the season. Which ones deserve to be worried and which ones just need to take a deep breath? Frank and Jason started the podcast by talking about some overreactions from around the league. We've also already seen a few players go down with some long-term injuries, most notably Patrik Laine in Columbus. Could this be enough to sink their season already? Frank also gave us some insight into a situation that's unfolding between the NHLPA and the Arizona Coyotes. Finally, after a long tangent about mice and Christmas lights, they brought in Tyler Yaremchuk for a new edition of Buy or Sell, delivered by Door Dash!0:55 - Overreaction season9:40 - Injury bug bites early12:50 - Coyotes schedule & NHLPA21:55 - Beniers and the Kraken33:20 - Buy or Sell Hosted on Acast. We continued our August interview series by catching up with Panthers GM Bill Zito. Some would say that he's been the busiest man in hockey this summer as he hired Paul Maurice, filled out the edges of his roster in free agency, oh, and he also happened to orchestrate one of the biggest trades of the salary cap era. He broke down how the mega-deal between the Panthers and Flames went down and why he's excited to welcome Matt Tkachuk to his organization. He also spoke a little bit about why it made sense to trade away Jonathan Huberdeau, who holds many Panthers franchise records, and Mackenzie Weegar, who many view as a top pairing defenseman. He also talked about his journey to being a General Manager, his risk tolerance, and how he goes about building what he hopes to be a Stanley Cup champion. Before the interview with Bill, Frank and Jason talked about Huberdeau's new contract with the Calgary Flames and also the status of some of the remaining UFA's like Nazem Kadri, Phil Kessel, and PK Subban.8:10 - Huberdeau contract & Flames plans13:25 - Kadri update & the rest of the remaining FA's22:50 - The Arizona arena26:30 - Could the NHLPA grieve the Keith cap recapture?29:55 - Zito on all the big changes32:00 - What does he love about Tkachuk36:40 - His journey as a GM52:10 - Going all in & learning lessons See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

We tackle the spicy hot debate around the Norris Trophy. We will tell you why we think Roman Josi should walk home tonight with his second Norris Trophy and how we will feel if Colorado's Cale Makar wins instead.
