TITLE: Mighty Mighty God In week two of this advent series of sermons, we dive into the meaning of Christmas through the lens of Isaiah 9 and the promise of Jesus as our Mighty God. At a time when we can feel ourselves buckling under the weight of the world, we remember that God sent a little baby who is also our Mighty God. ABOUT THIS SERIES: In this Christmas sermon series, we look at Isaiah 9:6 and the titles given to the Christ child Isaiah prophesied would come. ABOUT THE FOUNDRY: The Foundry in Burke, VA is an independent, non-denominational church focused on guiding people to forge a life-long reliance on God. You can find out more about us by going to TheFoundryChurch.com.
This week's special educational episode shines a spotlight on the incredible work being done by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to support caregivers, families, and survivors of veterans. In this educational episode, Maureen Elias, a Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary for Benefits at the VA, provides a comprehensive overview of the vast array of benefits and programs available through the Veterans Benefits Administration. Elias expertly navigates the three key buckets of VA support - caregiver benefits, family benefits, and survivor services. From healthcare and respite care to legal assistance and bereavement support, the VA ensures caregivers have the resources they need to avoid burnout and continue providing exceptional care. Equally impressive are the VA's efforts to adapt homes and vehicles and offer educational benefits for family members and robust survivor benefits, including burial assistance, life insurance, and dependency compensation. Listeners are left with a renewed appreciation for the VA's commitment to honoring the service and sacrifice of veterans and their loved ones. About Maureen: Maureen Elias serves as the Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary for Benefits on the development, adoption, and implementation of Department-wide programs and policies related to Benefits. In this role she analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of these programs and policies and presents balanced recommendations for improvements. She represents the Under Secretary for Benefits in dealings with the senior staff of Cabinet officers regarding Departmental programs, initiatives, and policies. Ms. Elias is a U.S. Army veteran and a U.S. Army retiree spouse. Prior to coming to the VA, Ms. Elias served on the House Veterans Affairs Committee and at two of the “Big Six” VSOs including Paralyzed Veterans of America and Vietnam Veterans of America. She has been recognized as one of the We Are the Mighty “Mighty 25”, 2021 VA Women Veteran Trailblazer, and as a HillVets100. She has appeared on various podcasts, testified before Congress, and written articles for various media outlets. Ms. Elias also volunteers as a storytelling instructor, helping Veterans, servicemembers, their families, survivors and caregivers learn to share their stories in ways that are meaningful. We finally get around to covering Mudvayne on a main (hey, that rhymes), and it catches Bryan by surprise, as he ends up liking the album a lot more than he figured he would. We both do, as it really hits the sweet spot of nu-metal while claiming to be "math metal" that's really not all that mathy. They also seem like sweet and smart guys, so really the antithesis of a nu-metal band from that perspective. Maybe it's because they always let the drummer talk. And good lord, that bass tone. It's everywhere you want it to be, all the time. We discuss whether or not they should have been bigger and how they really showed other masked and painted bands how to get along with Slipknot. If you want to hear us discuss a bunch of masked and painted bands, head on over to our Patreon at patreon.com/thepodkast, where $4/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every single month! That's it. That's about all the description we need. The O'jays have such an expansive catalogue of music that has inarguably touched most Americans in some way, shape or form. Most of us get the warm and fuzzies when we hear the opening bars of "our song" by the legendary trio. Original member Walter Williams takes us down memory lane, and elaborates on his unshakable faith while Eric Nolan talks about enjoying life, loving everything you have, smelling the roses and the privilege of singing with his idol. (Eddie Levert is recovering from COVID. Sending love, light and healing energy!) Catch their latest album, The Last Word, and catch them on tour in a city near you!
I am joined by frequent show contributor & O'Jays superfan Cheyenne as we discuss the greatness of what we consider the greatest soul group of the 1970's, THE MIGHTY MIGHTY O'JAYS. We talk about the almost 65 year friendship of Walt Williams & Eddie Levert, their battles with loss & illnesses, their impeccable stage presence, & why we both consider them to be the greatest 1/2 punch in music history. I even share a poem I wrote 21 years ago. Sit back & enjoy as we take you down memory lane. FOLLOW US ON TWITTER @ROBERTSILVA5768 @CHEYENNELANEE
