Welcome to the West Chester Story Slam podcast! Today we have three stories from our September Story Slam! The theme was Panic Switch! At our Panic Switch Story Slam, Steve Kernaghan won a slot to compete in the grand slam. Steve is a local teacher, and his story had everyone in the room on the edge of our seats. Here’s Steve. Next up is a first-time storyteller, Jeremiah Kane, recalling a memorable moment from the Phillies Parade. Our final story is from the winner of the 2017 Grand Slam. Paul Heck tells about a trip to Bangkok and a clash of cultures. If you have not met Paul, it’s good to know he is rather tall, which mean he towered above the crowd in Thailand. Paul will be returning to compete in the 2018 Grand Slam, which takes place on Tuesday, November 13th at the Chester County Historical Society. If you want to see the winning storytellers from the 2018 season live as they compete for the best storyteller in West Chester, pick up your tickets at wcstoryslam.com before they sell out. If you are a fan of the West Chester Story Slam podcast - please let your friends know, or write a review on iTunes. I’m Jim Breslin, thanks so much!

Welcome to the West Chester Story Slam podcast! Our theme for October was Close Calls, and this was one of the rowdiest nights we’ve had in a long time! David Smith won the night. David has told stories several times over the past two years, but he kind of disappeared for a few months. When I asked him what happened, he said, wait and hear my story! The next Close Calls story comes from our friend Nick Kupsey. Nick gets pretty personal in this story, and I’m so glad he told it. . I don’t do this often, but this next story was told by me, Jim Breslin. I think it’s a good story for Halloween season because it’s kind of creepy. Okay, just a reminder that our Grand Slam is November 7th. Check wcstoryslam.com to see if tickets remain. In early December, we’ll be posting the entire 2018 season dates and themes. Well, that’s our podcast for this month! If you are a fan of the West Chester Story Slam podcast - please let your friends know, or write a review on iTunes. Thanks so much!
The 2017 Lancaster Story Slam season is in full swing. Our theme for February was “Love and Hate,” and we heard all different takes on the subject. It was quite a turnout too as people celebrated Mardi Gras - a festive night for sure! When it was over, Beth Horenkamp was declared the winning storyteller. Beth has taken to the stage several times over the past two years. Beth will be returning to the Grand Slam this November. She was also a grand slam competitor last season! Do you have a story you want to tell on stage? Have you been secretly thinking you want to tell a story but would like a boost of confidence? We’re holding our Storytelling Workshop on Wednesday night, April 5th at Tellus 360. Our two-hour class will help you think through how to draft your story and provide tips on telling your story live on stage. Learn more on the website, Lancaster Story Slam on the Workshops page. Register to secure your spot. Laura Heller told about how one slip changed her whole international experience. Here’s a totally different take on the theme of Love and Hate. Linda Silberman was a first-time storyteller, and we can say we are glad she is back her in Pennsylvania. Our final storyteller is my co-producer, Jim Breslin. He recalls a controversial celebrity that he worked with years ago. Lancaster Story Slam is always held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Tellus360. Our events start at 8pm, but we recommend arriving early to grab a pint and food at the front bar. You can check out all the details, the rules, and the the themes for the year at our website - LancasterStorySlam.com. If you enjoyed the podcast, we’d love it if you you would leave a rating and review on iTunes, or let your friends know they can listen to Lancaster folks telling true tales each month.

Welcome to the York Story Slam podcast, where we feature select stories from our monthly open mic storytelling events in York, Pennsylvania. On April 19, 2016, eleven storytellers shared their stories with a sold-out crowd at Holy Hound Taproom in downtown York. The theme for the evening was “Hunger.” Eileen Joyce, one of our regular storytellers at York Story Slam, won with a story about her cat’s tactics for waking Eileen up to feed him. Here’s Eileen. Eileen earned a spot in our Grand Slam in November. Next up is Matt McDunnell. Matt talked about about a vision quest he participated in when he was in college. Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from our friend Jim Breslin, the founder of West Chester Story Slam and Co-Founder of Lancaster Story Slam. It was Jim’s first visit to York Story Slam, and we were delighted when his name was drawn and he told us a story about a month he spent at a wilderness canoe camp when he was a teenager.
We're so happy to bring you this bonus podcast episode! I sat down with local filmmaker, Al Monelli, of Monelli Films and we talked about how he tells stories with his films and documentaries. Al recently completed production on One Hoops - the 3rd in his Lancaster Trilogy - a project he started in 2014.One Hoops stars Jenny Hill who "unleashes her imagination on Lancaster with some hula hoops and a little creativity."I met Jenny Hill this summer at a writing workshop that my co-producer, Jim Breslin, hosted. I connected with Jenny and started following her on social media. She often posts videos of her hooping practice that are just mesmerizing. When Al reached out to me to see if I'd be interesting in chatting on the podcast about storytelling, I was sold immediately. Please listen in and enjoy as I learn about Al, his background, and his storytelling. (And Al turns the table and starts asking me questions near the end of the conversation!)
