Psalm 100 is a song for giving joyful praise. And behold, in honor of the 2026 FIFA World Cup now being less than 100 days away from kicking off, Soccer Psalm 100 features on the podcast this week. Soon, there will be much celebration and jubilation (and some sadness when one’s team loses) around the world’s biggest stage and tournament. I wrote Soccer Psalm 100 from the perspective of the fans — those who sit and await the match to begin. They start the party well ahead of the game. There is food and fellowship and footy happening. In the USA, we call it tailgating. In the UK, people gather at the local pub for “chippies” before a joyful march to the stadium ground. In other parts of the world, there are other, similar pre-match rituals and routines — usually expressive of joy and eager anticipation to get behind one’s team. In many ways, we await the triumphant procession and return of Jesus and the Cup Final to end all Cup Finals. Enjoy this soccer psalm for this week’s podcast. The Soccer Psalms, is a self-published book available on Amazon. (You can also find The Football Psalms-a British version-if you appreciate the different terms around the game). Both books are available globally on Amazon and contain 31 psalms that have been translated into “soccer psalms” — with words, language, and metaphors that connect soccer to God’s Word. I also include some reflection on the context and writing as well as some questions for reflection. Check out the book below: The Soccer Psalms: https://mybook.to/thesoccerpsalms The Football Psalms: https://mybook.to/thefootballpsalms-uk Los Salmos del Fútbol: https://mybook.to/lossalmosdelfutbol From the Touchline is a short-feature (10-15 min) podcast with Rev Brad Kenney, Founder and Executive Director of Soccer Chaplains United and Volunteer Chaplain to the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer. We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, CONCACAF Champions Cup, and general football chat. It was a another two-game week for the Whitecaps, with two victories in two different competitions and two clean sheets to boot. The 'Caps dispatched a tough test in Costa Rican side Cartagines on Wednesday night in Champions Cup action to set up a Cascadian clash with Seattle in the next round. They followed that up with a Canadian derby win against Toronto on Saturday. We pick over the bones of both matches and the main talking points coming out of them. Plus we round up this week's action around MLS West and look at how the battle to be the Canadian number one goalkeeper is playing out down in Florida between Max Crepeau and Dayne St Clair after their derby. It was a good week in Whitecapsland all round, with two key pieces signing contract extensions and some new corporate deals announced. We chat with one of those key pieces, MLS Defender of the Year Tristan Blackmon, about last year's heroics, his very eventful and headline-making offseason, his new deal, what the club and city mean to him, and the season to come. We also chat with a player starting out his Whitecaps journey, homegrown defender Mihail Gherasimencov, about joining the first team, his time in the CPL with Cavalry, playing internationally for Moldova, and his footballing journey so far. All of this plus we move onto the letter J in our Canadian Soccer A to Z series and music-wise, Scottish band Bis begin their residency as our Artists of the Month, The Pastels are the latest band to feature in our 40th anniversary tribute year to the C86 movement, and Football Violence Awareness Month begins again in Wavelength. The MLS season is heating up and we've got takes. MLS analyst Matt Doyle stops by to help us separate early-season overreactions from real trends. Is Julian Hall's breakout with the New York Red Bulls the beginning of a superstar arc or just a hot streak? Are Inter Miami CF papering over long-term roster concerns despite their win over Orlando City SC? And can the early momentum from the San Jose Earthquakes — and Timo Werner — actually last? We dig into what's real, what's noise, and what it means moving forward. Then we head across the Atlantic for an incredible conversation with Steve Fletcher, assistant coach and club legend at AFC Bournemouth. Fletcher gives us insight into why Tyler Adams is one of the most respected players at the club, how his leadership extends far beyond the pitch, and why every team needs a player like him. If you're an American soccer fan, this is one you won't want to miss. We also dive into the impact of manager Andoni Iraola and how his consistency, culture-setting, and tactical identity have helped elevate Bournemouth in the Premier League. Fletcher reflects on his own storied career — from signing in the early '90s to becoming the club's all-time appearance leader — and what it means to represent one club for over three decades. MLS chaos, Premier League insight, and legendary football stories all in one episode. Timestamps: (7:30) – Julian Hall is leading a youth movement in New York (16:00) - Will Inter Miami struggle this season despite win? (22:00) – Can San Jose and Timo Werner's hot start last? The bad news? The 0-0 draw at home was convincing at best and downright difficult watch at worst. So what can the Galaxy do? Hosts Josh Guesman and Sophie Nicholaou discuss the Galaxy's woes in their first 270 minutes of soccer in 2026 and why the midfield still feels disconnected. But maybe the defense is stepping it up while the midfield and offense figure it out? No shots allowed on goal for San Miguelito, and the Galaxy have only given up one goal in the first three games (minus the PK against NYCFC). But can the Galaxy's defense do it all? And what happens if the Galaxy get scored on first? Can the offense figure it out before the pressure really ramps up on this team and the coaching staff? Could Antoine Griezmann really be headed to Orlando City SC — and if so, would he be the one player capable of challenging Lionel Messi for MLS supremacy? We kick things off by diving into the rumor, the fit, and what Griezmann's personality and playing style would mean for the league. Is this realistic, or just classic MLS chaos? Then NJ/NY Gotham FC defender Mandy Freeman joins the show. She reflects on Gotham's improbable championship run, the weight of expectations heading into the new season, and what it's like being a 10-year NWSL veteran who's seen the league evolve from host families and modest crowds to sold-out stadiums. MLS is here… and I think I just came up with a new way to attack it.In today's Sorare with Laird, I'm diving into Major League Soccer — but not in the way most managers are approaching it. I'm not blowing up my gallery. I'm not chasing every shiny in-season card. And I'm definitely not pretending budget doesn't matter.Instead, I'm testing something different. Is it smart? Is it reckless? Is it actually +EV long-term?I honestly don't know yet — but that's part of the fun. We'll talk about:• Why MLS is tempting right now• The risk/reward profile compared to Europe• What makes MLS uniquely attackable (or dangerous)• How I'm thinking about cost control while still trying to competeAnd yes… I'll explain why this might actually be a dumb idea.Didn't catch this live? It’s the home opener this weekend for my club team, the Colorado Rapids. It has me thinking and reflecting on home. I am a Denver and Colorado native (we’re rare these days). And our beautiful state is surrounded by roadway signs that say “Welcome to Colorful Colorado.” But the signs aren’t what you think that they might be. Today, on the podcast, I reflect more on the “signage” in our life that mark out the home space. The words of Jeremiah, the prophet, to the nation of Israel were filled with hope in a pretty desperate time. He told them, take note of the road. Mark out the signposts. They are words of promise — that a return would happen, that God would be doing a new thing in the land (and to the people). Those promises are true for us, today, as well. From the Touchline is a short-feature podcast with Rev Brad Kenney, Founder and Executive Director of Soccer Chaplains United and Volunteer Chaplain to the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer. Rev Brad and occasional guests touch on various issues around the topics of faith, family, and football (soccer). Also, don’t forget that you can listen in our app, SoccrChapUtd, in the Apple and Google store.

LAFC sent a loud message in their 3-0 dismantling of Inter Miami, and it wasn't just about the scoreline. Los Angeles FC looked sharp, organized, and ruthless, while Inter Miami CF looked frustrated and overwhelmed. We break down what went wrong for Miami, what this result means long-term, and whether Lionel Messi's heated postgame interaction with referees is a sign of deeper cracks. Plus, we recap the rest of MLS opening weekend and highlight the teams that set the tone early. Across the pond, the Premier League title race is heating up once again. Manchester City and Arsenal continue to push each other to the limit at the top of the table. Can City pull off another late surge, or is this finally Arsenal's year? We examine the remaining fixtures, squad depth, and pressure points that could decide the title. Off the pitch, concerns are growing around the 2026 tournament. With New Jersey canceling its World Cup fan zone and Gillette Stadium reportedly resisting FIFA licensing without additional funding, we ask whether the 2026 World Cup is starting to show serious organizational strain. Few figures have shaped modern American soccer more profoundly than Alan Rothenberg ("The Big Bounce: The Surge That Shaped the Future of U.S. Soccer") — and in this revelatory conversation, he tells the story in his own words. Best known as the founding architect of Major League Soccer and the driving force behind the record-breaking 1994 FIFA World Cup, Rothenberg's influence on the game in the United States stretches back decades earlier than most fans realize. Long before MLS kicked off in 1996, he was immersed in the sport's early, fragile professional era. In the late 1960s, Rothenberg worked alongside Jack Kent Cooke in the United Soccer Association, helping operate the Los Angeles Wolves — an ambitious effort to import top international clubs to American audiences. He later held a brief ownership stake in the Los Angeles Aztecs of the North American Soccer League, gaining firsthand insight into the promise and ultimate collapse of pro soccer's first boom-and-bust cycle in the U.S. A pivotal turning point came when Rothenberg ran the soccer competition for the 1984 Summer Olympics. At a time when many doubted the American market, the tournament drew unexpectedly strong crowds — helping persuade FIFA that the United States could successfully host a World Cup. As president of the United States Soccer Federation from 1990 to 1998, Rothenberg delivered on that promise. The 1994 World Cup became the most financially successful in history to that point, and he fulfilled the bid commitment to launch MLS — creating the stable Division I league that had eluded the country for generations. He also chaired the 1999 Women's World Cup, another watershed moment. In this candid interview, Rothenberg reflects on risk, resistance, political maneuvering, and the long game of institution-building — offering rare, behind-the-scenes insight into how American soccer finally found its footing. + + + SUPPORT THE SHOW: Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable The "Good Seats" Store: http://tee.pub/lic/RdiDZzQeHSY BUY THE BOOK: "The Big Bounce: The Surge That Shaped the Future of U.S. Soccer": https://amzn.to/4kSgacQ SPONSOR THANKS: Old School Shirts.com (10% off promo code: GOODSEATS): https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats Royal Retros (10% off promo code: SEATS): https://www.503-sports.com?aff=2 FIND AND FOLLOW: Linktree: https://linktr.ee/GoodSeatsStillAvailable Web: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/goodseatsstillavailable.com X/Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable Threads: https://www.threads.net/@goodseatsstillavailable Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/good-seats-still-available/

It was a big victory for the Seattle Sounders in Matchday 1, with Sunday night's comprehensive 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids.
