Jarrett and Jon look back at the 2-2 draw with New England from MBSThe numbers, the action, and your reaction...
For the fourth time in 14 days, LAFC is set to play. (Don't worry, we will do this all over again in the next 14 days) Tired, injured, and traveling a mile high to Commerce City, LAFC looked the part in their 2-0 loss to the Rapids, and you'll hear all about it here on Episode 193 of Defenders of the Banc.It all fell apart in the first half-hour for LAFC, as Sebastian Ibeagha and Pancho Ginella were both whistled for fouls in the box. Colorado buried both the penalties, though not without a solid effort on both by John McCarthy, the backup-turned-starter for the Black and Gold. Truth be told, McCarthy was pretty much the only bright spot for LAFC on the day. His four saves and several other great plays kept LAFC in the match. There simply weren't many opportunities for an obviously-tired club. LAFC forced just two saves by Yarbrough, both of the garden variety, and LAFC head home for their second 2-week-4-match set. Also on this episode, find out which dwarf Filly would be from Snow White, how many different words Scarf makes up, and what the heck the Defenders were doing during the match. We'll be back very soon for 194!
American soccer has several questions that have been the source of debates over the past few weeks, and on Episode 80, it's time to sit down and address some of them head on! We asked for your questions on the USMNT, USWNT, or just the general state of American soccer. And, we received some amazing questions that we had to discuss. Who's going to pair with Walker Zimmerman at centerback when the USMNT heads to Qatar for the World Cup? Where would be the best destination for Christian Pulisic this summer? Is riding the bench in Europe really better than playing regularly in Major League Soccer? Why does California never get any “important” matches? These are some of the topics that have caused debates all over the country, and we take the time to give our take as well. These questions will surely continue throughout the summer, so don't wait for another episode to get your question in! Send them to SSFC Podcast at Gmail dot com, and we will answer them on a future show. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
The guys go to the proverbial phones for an episode for the listeners and by the listeners. First up, the highlights from David's trip to Austin and Q2 Stadium, then US Open Cup insanity, Sounders bid for Club World Cup allocation and Zlatan's claims that he's MLS's best ever player. Plus, Week 11 preview! 0:55 - David Gass' Austin FC experience 7:05 - Soccer for All Week kicks off 8:46 - History made in the Canadian Championship 13:12 - Recapping a WILD USOC Round of 32 41:46 - Which team will win USOC? 45:53 - Would Giorgio Chiellini make sense for LAFC? 1:00:35 - Are the Revs waking up? 1:09:58 - Should Seattle get extra allocation money for winning CCL? 1:15:18 - ESPN+ Games of the Week 1:18:03 - Mailbag - is Zlatan the best player to ever play in MLS?
The 2022 US Open Cup roars on at Band of California Stadium, and for the third time, we take on the Portland Timbers. We beat them in 2018. They returned the favor in 2019. In 2022, it's the rubber match, and LAFC brought their axes to the Banc!On a beautiful Tuesday night, Steve Cherundolo rolled out a lineup worthy of most MLS contests. Gone were the ideas of going conservative, with 7 matches in May and three more in just 11 days. It was clear from the outset that LAFC was going for it tonight, and go for it they did!The Black and Gold would FINALLY get off to the strong start they needed, with Chicho Arango scoring off a beautiful backheel after a fantastic one-two from Mamadou and Mahala. After heading into the half up 1-0, LAFC added to it just 9 minutes later off a beautiful one-timer at the top of the box by the 19-year-old wunderkind, Fall. Down 2-0, Portland attempted to push all their chips in the middle, bringing stars Yimmi, Niezgoda, and Blanco off the bench to make one more run. LAFC would counter with Pancho Ginella and Franco Escobar, and after a few more great saves from Maxime Crepeau, LAFC booked their ticket to the Round of 16 with a convincing 2-goal win. Also on this episode, the boys get back to their singing ways, the Field Club gets a Lexus, and the "Wait, What?" moment makes its triumphant return! We'll be back in just a few short days to bring you all the fun from Colorado, but, until then, enjoy Episode 192 of "The Most LAFC Podcast on Earth!"

Or do they make teams play ugly because they're a formidable defensive challenge? Coming off of a 1-0 victory over one of Major League Soccer's top-ranked offenses, the Galaxy are creating their own defensive identity. And that means things aren't always going to look so pretty. But does that mean you can't be concerned about the offense? Because you probably should be. Hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter discuss the Galaxy's win over Austin against a team that hadn't been beaten at home all year. What do the 19 points from 10 games mean? And do you feel like there's some sustainability to the defensive record? Josh and Kevin will discuss the faltering Galaxy offense and why Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, Douglas Costa, Efrain Alvarez, and Kevin Cabral all need to find the back of the net. And Josh will name a Galaxy player that doesn't get enough crap for not sticking the ball into the back of the net and could have seen the Galaxy easily walk past Austin. Plus, the guys will talk about the US Open Cup match with Cal United Strikers on Wednesday and tell you who's making an appearance for Galaxy, who hasn't been seen at the stadium for a very long time. Here's a hint: it starts with a "T" and ends with a "wizzle." If you know, you know. The guys have a packed show tonight, and they're delighted you took time out of your Monday night to talk some Galaxy with them!
How do we fix problems? We roll up our sleeves and complain loudly into microphones. Hopefully these solutions on many topics like Social Media, Major League Soccer, and Streaming Services.

On the fifth time of asking a Major League Soccer club has finally won the CONCACAF Champions League. Seattle Sounders FC came in as favorites and came through some adversity with injuries early on, but in the end, their depth and quality shone through with a 3-0 win on the night and 5-2 on aggregate, the gold standard of MLS become the first US side to win the CCL. Erik and Sean discuss how big the moment really is, the players that made it happen, and what it means to be going to the FIFA Club World Cup as well. Also, the UEFA Champions League has an England vs Spain final as Liverpool dispatched Villarreal 5-2 on aggregate after a nervy first half that saw the Yellow Submarine make a comeback. However, this pales in comparison to the comeback the Spanish champions Real Madrid pulled off against Manchester City. After a quiet game, they exploded at the last minutes to force Extra Time and win it, in the end, to compete for their potentially 14th Champions League crown. Russia receives further bans from UEFA removing the Women's team from this summer's Women's EURO 2022, relegating the Russian Men's side to the third tier of the Nations League, and even banning them from UEFA Youth competitions too. On #MLSAfterDark, Andrew Wiebe and Charlie Davies discuss the action from Sunday's games around Major League Soccer. Cincinnati fans show out in defeat, NYCFC sneak out a victory in goal-fest with Toronto, Jesús Jiménez in need of some service, Orlando can't hang with the Red Bulls, and Leonardo Campana lifts Inter Miami.
It's matchday in Cincinnati as LAFC takes on FCC in TQL Stadium. Just four days removed from Open Cup triumph over our former stepbrothers, OCSC, LAFC would take on their second straight USL oppon... err... the relative MLS newcomers in what many worried would be somewhat of a trap game. But this is not the LAFC of old! Though the trap was set, LAFC would come away with all three points behind more second-half dominance and defeat Cincy 2-1. It definitely didn't start out rosy in the Queen City, as Doneil Henry picks up a bad yellow just six minutes in and then compounds the issue with an injury before 30 minutes. Sebastian Ibeagha would relieve him, but pick up a yellow just minutes into his shift. Not the most inspiring of performances from two of our center backs. Couple that with a puzzling decision, or lack thereof, by the PRO refs to NOT look at what seemed to be a clear takedown in the box of Carlos Vela, and LAFC looked content to head into the half knotted at zero. Until...Right before halftime, Maxime Crepeau turns the ball over in the middle of the pitch and Cincy turns it into gold. Luci Acosta pounces and Cincinnati heads into the locker room up a goal. It would be up to Steve Cherundolo to make the right halftime moves yet again.Just before the hour mark, Kellyn Acosta fires from well outside the box to find an equalizer, with a little help from a deflection. Twenty minutes later, super-sub Danny Musovski scores LAFC's MLS-leading 6th goal from a substitute to take the lead and all three points. LAFC leaves the home of Skyline Chili a winner and remains at the top of the table in both the West and the Shield race. A huge thank you to LAFC for allowing us to join dozens of supporters at the 1800 Tequila event at House of Football, and a huge thank you to Saturdays Football for allowing us to record onsite after the match!

For the first time since 2019, the U.S. Open Cup is Back at the Banc! LAFC hosts their former USL affiliate, Orange County Soccer Club, in a 3rd Round Open Cup clash, and your boys Filly and Scarf are here to break down all the fun of the 5-1 win.Open Cup matches at the Banc are always a fun time. You can hang out in Figueroa Club, get to know USL clubs, and these matches are another great excuse to just be at the Banc. You also get to know your roster a little more deeply, as players who are a little further down the depth chart get a little more burn than usual. While we aren't sure our neighbors from behind the Orange Curtain will feel that way after this match, we sure did enjoy the start of the 2022 Open Cup. John McCarthy, Danny Musovski, Sebastian Ibeagha, and Cal Jennings would all play vital roles in this match, and with Pancho Ginella, Doneil Henry, and Franco Escobar all getting starting nods, it's safe to say everyone in attendance got a good look at the depth of MLS's most talented roster. Chicho Arango continued his hot streak, netting a brace before halftime, and the Moose ran wild at the Banc with a brace of his own. Jennings, last year's leading scorer for the Las Vegas Lights, capped the scoring for the Black and Gold, but the biggest story of the match seemed to be a new role for Carlos Vela, albeit a temporary one: Vela at the 6. With Vela playing the Ilie Sanchez role, the ball moved around the pitch with accuracy and speed, and, in combination with Kellyn Acosta, LAFC's passing was crisp and clean. Also, you may have noticed 188 was released before 187... we talk about that on the pod, too! We really appreciate all the love and support, especially in the bit of a rough spot the Defenders is in with the loss of our beloved mascot, family member, and best-dressed cat on the planet. We feel you, Defenders Nation! Enjoy 188!
