In the PSMLS class of 10/18/22 and 10/20/22, we studied the Cuban Missile Crisis on the occasion of its 60th anniversary. The crisis has many parallels to our current situation, where Western imperialist aggression and NATO-backed fascism have brought the world to the brink of nuclear war once again. Leslie Hubrich, what an inspiration of incredible power and upbeat attitude that came fiercely from this small super strong 5 foot nothing human being! Leslie Hubrich was out for the day doing what she loves and that is extreme sports with her husband Dan in southern California. Suddenly the Powerglider she was flying had mechanical failure and she plummeted 60 feet approximately to the ground! Leslie survived this near death experience but the impact broke her back and fractured her hips and pelvis into pieces leaving her very close to dying that day. Her shear will and upbeat desire to live brought her back and into the gift of life she enjoys today but with no small amount of pain and suffering daily she has overcome and defeated. Tune into this story of one of the most inspirational stories of a loving, kind, gift to us all. Meeting Leslie, you have met an angel. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bob-howard9/message
Earth will have a close call tonight. An asteroid that's big enough to cause major damage will pass just 708,000 miles away — about three times the distance from Earth to the Moon. 2005 LW3 is classified as a potentially hazardous asteroid — one of about 2200 that we know of. Such asteroids could hit us. And if they're big enough, they could inflict major harm. In 2013, for example, an asteroid just 65 feet in diameter exploded high above the Russian city of Chelyabinsk. The shockwave injured about 1500 people, mostly from flying bits of glass. And in 1908, an asteroid about three times that size exploded above Tunguska, in Siberia. It flattened 500,000 acres of forest, and may have killed three or more residents. 2005 LW3 is much bigger than either of those — about 400 to 900 feet in diameter. At that size, it would either explode high in the air or slam into the ground. Either way, the blast would be the equivalent of thousands of big nuclear bombs — powerful enough to destroy a city. Close encounters like this one are common. A much smaller asteroid passed much closer just a week ago, for example. And another big one will pass a little closer on Christmas Day. Most potentially hazardous asteroids are small. And so far, none of them is on a known collision course. But astronomers discover new ones all the time — potentially deadly space rocks. This episode really represents the foundational purpose of this podcast. That being, to hear climbing stories and chat about climbing topics with fellow recreational climbers. Climbers with full-time jobs, relationships, kids, and lives outside of their world of climbing. Climbing is such an amazing sport and one of the reasons is that you don't need to climb extremely hard grades or dedicate your life to it in order to have life-changing, empowering, and inspiring experiences. In today's conversation, we sit down with Chris Stephens Sr., a father, soldier, traveler, and of course a climber. Chris reached out to me via Instagram after hearing my episode on the Sharp End Podcast where I briefly mentioned my climbing trip in Albania. He too had just come back from a climbing trip to eastern Europe and wanted to swap stories. We decided to turn what would be a quick chat into an episode. We talk about how Chris was so inspired by the landscape around him that he chose to pursue the sport of climbing, how a close call turned him off the sport for 4 years, how fathership affects his mental game while climbing, and finally we swap stories about our experience climbing in the Balkans. A land where food limitations, access issues, and limited information make outdoor climbing a whole lot more adventurous. Please rate, review the show, and share this podcast with your friends. Michigan football found itself in a bar fight for the first time this season and found a way to come out on top, beating Illinois by a score of 19-17 thanks to a last-second field goal by Jake Moody. The Wolverine's Anthony Broome and former Michigan defensive end Ryan Van Bergen break down the victory and go through the biggest takeaways, as well as take fan questions throughout the program. Wayne Roberts. Miracle. It was mind blowing to meet Wayne. I was told he had a tragic ski accident just a couple of months prior to a meeting with him and he was walking, talking, and mixing with a group of people without much physical impairment or any mental impact. Wayne looked normal as can be and yet, Wayne had wrecked while skiing at Solitude Ski area on an icy double black diamond run and even being a ski instructor, he went down hard! Wayne hit so hard on his face that it broke his neck and then slammed into a grove of trees head first where the damage continued. Wayne guarded his head with his arm and when he smashed into the trees, it broke his arm completely and his back! 21 bones broke in total. 4-5 broken ribs and bruised lungs on top of that. Wayne's son Dillon was by his side the whole time and remained stoic and brave at the age of 14. This story resonates pain, healing, and bravery + love. So happy Wayne is here today to tell us his story and is healing well. Tune in to hear his story. Thanks Wayne for your story!! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bob-howard9/message

Many Republicans and conservatives are pointing fingers at each other over the party's lackluster performance in the 2022 midterm elections. Given all the advantages the GOP had — widespread economic anxiety, a huge majority believing the country has gone off track, and a deeply unpopular Democratic president — Republicans should have done better.

This episode is a true miracle where the Mathis family was engulfed in flames when the trailer they were sleeping in while camping and deer hunting had a slow propane leak and filled the space with explosive gas. It took three clicks of Mike Mathis's lighter to cause a huge explosion that burned the whole family leaving Mike, Amie and their three children on fire and later fighting for their lives at the University of Utah Hospital Burn Unit for over a month in ICU. Mike induced into a coma to survive. Listen to this heart touching story of survival, love and gratitude. Amazing family! Remarkably, this Close Call With Death brought them all together even more. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bob-howard9/message

The 20th ranked Rebels took on Georgia Tech in a regular season game for the first time since 1946. The Vols came in fresh off an overtime road win against a ranked opponent in Pittsburgh. With the Gators scheduled next weekend, making light work of the Akron Zips was the prudent move for Tennessee. You should never get caught looking ahead on the schedule, but the Arkansas Razorbacks did just that on Saturday night--at least early on in the Bobby Petrino Bowl with Missouri State visiting Fayetteville. There is no better way to encapsulate the Gamecocks outlook entering a SEC matchup with Georgia.than the +25 point spread. The Gamecocks may be coming off a win but they WERE out-gained a week ago and have had uneven play to start the year. n week three South Florida out-gained the Gators handily and Richardson once again showed his talent has plenty of room to grow. This is Waymon Alexander, Creator of The Liminal Lands which is a suspense slash horror serialized audio drama about a man who suffers an accident, and wakes to find himself seemingly the only person left . . .anywhere, and his journey to not only find out what happened, but to also find his family in the process. This is episode 5 of season 1, entitled Close Calls. In this episode the unnamed main character is trapped in an empty house while a dark and seemingly supernatural creature that's been stalking him tries to break in. I had no experience in. . . well any aspect of this, and as a 1 man production, with some occasional cameo voices of my family, this has been one of the most challenging ventures I've ever undertaken. But, it has also been incredibly rewarding, and I get better at, and learn someone new about, every aspect of this project seemingly every day. I hope you enjoy the show as much as I've enjoyed making it. Thank you for listening. No transcript available. https://theliminallands.wixsite.com/the-liminal-lands Twitter: @theliminallands
On Thursday it was announced that a tentative contract was reached with the unions representing railroad workers in the United States. What many people have not understood is what the negative impact would have been to the already fragile economy had that agreement not been reached. Most people have no idea of how vital the rail link is in our nations supply chain. This would have devastated food prices, gasoline prices, and much more, and while this strike has been averted for now, it still could happen in the future. This begs the question, are you prepared for lean times? Please remember, we are only on the air because of your faithful support.
