Expanding on our conversation with our thriving therapist Kat Dahlen, we open up this week about the boundaries we've created for ourselves and the boundaries we are still working on. We discuss the importance of giving ourselves grace and love for being the baby giraffes we are, trying to figure out how to walk in this world, excited for when we hit our galloping stride. Plus MK checks in on all of Molli's plant babies. XO, Molli & MK
Our resident She's Thriving LMFT therapist Kat Dahlen deVos is BACK on the podcast this week, and whoah are we grateful. You might remember Kat from our very first episode, the live recording of our She's Thriving panel from The Wing SF. Kat had such impactful insight that resonated deeply with the two of us and our community as a whole, so we knew we wanted to sit down with her for a longer interview to dive deeper into many of the questions and topics our listeners submitted. We talked about the importance of boundaries, how to identify and interrupt the stories we tell ourselves, and self-compassion as a key tool to enhance our lives and help us thrive. We are so grateful to bring you our conversation with Kat and would encourage everyone to connect with her via Instagram @therapywithkat. You can also connect with Kat and a group of her fellow psychotherapists by checking out the Havn Collective - a wellness community for the curious and courageous created with the mission to demystify therapy, remove the shame, and create conversations around emotional wellness.
In our very first episode, we are so excited to bring you a live recording of our launch event - She's Thriving: What Wellness Really Looks Like for Women in 2019 & Beyond. This panel event was held in San Francisco, CA at The Wing on Saturday February 2, 2019. Our amazing panelists included SoulCycle Instructor and She's Thriving co-founder, Molli Sullivan (@molli.sullivan); licensed psychotherapist supporting ambitious women in navigating life transitions with authenticity, grace and vitality and co-founder the SF based holistic group practice HAVN, Kat Dahlen (@therapywithkat); co-founder of Seldom Seen, a San Franciscan run boutique that brings a unique and inclusive approach to fashion centered on an experience that begins with community, Natasha Wong (natasha.k.wong); and founder of NDN and co-founder of Sitting Matters, a wellness and lifestyle expert combining her backgrounds in neuroscience, dance, nutrition and fashion to create a mindful and creative space for group and individual consulting, coaching and content creation, Nkechi Njaka (@ndnlifestylist). The panel was moderated by Senior SoulCycle Instructor and She's Thriving co-founder, MK Hurlbutt (@mkhurlbutt). We would like to send a special thanks to all of our AMAZING partners who made the event possible: SoulCycle, The Wing, bkr, Curie natural deodorant, Drunk Elephant, Urban Remedy, SF Salt Company, La Casa de las Madres, Praise Photography, Farmgirl Flowers, Apres, and Lululemon. There really is no method to the madness when it comes to the various seasons of the show other than to let my gut dictate when it's time to close one chapter and prep for another. It's just feeling like the right time to end season 3 with a few weeks off to make some tweaks and improvements before we kick off season 4. Luckily there are 70 shows out there to keep you entertained while I do a little restructuring and take some time off to reset. I thought it would be fun to reflect back on season 3 and pick out some of the top lessons I've learned from the show. Truthfully, I don't go back to listen to old episodes (it's weird hearing your own voice!), but from the 40 episodes this season, a bunch of important lessons learned still stand-out. Today's episode will be all about these lessons and why they've stuck with me. Be sure to subscribe to the podcast so that you know when I'm back from my short hiatus. In the meantime, enjoy! I'm back! My first official blog post and podcast episode as a married woman! Okay that just sounds weird, but I wanted to acknowledge the fact that I've been gone for the past 2 weeks and that my amazing and wonderful team took over the blog to show off their skills. Clearly I'm a lucky woman having Tanya and Georgia by my side! Oh and C :) He's pretty great too. Today's podcast episode is near and dear to my heart. I've invited the incredible Kat Dahlen onto the show to chat about therapy, how it benefits us and why everyone should have a therapist. Kat is a holistic psychotherapist who has her masters in Integral Counseling Psychology. She takes an individualized approach while incorporating the best of both eastern and western techniques. She's incredible! Having been in therapy for most of my adult life, I can 100% vouch for its benefits. That being said, there is still so much stigma around therapy and mental health so I hope today's episode can help dispel the myths out there and bring some light to a very important conversation. Here are a few other things we cover in today's episode: Kat's journey and how she became a holistic pyschotherapist What is "holistic psychotherapy" and how does it differ from other types of therapy? Mental health stigma and why therapy isn't just for those who struggle with their mental health Who should be in therapy and when should you start going? How Kat incorporates eastern and western techniques into her practice "Emotional fluency" and why its important to identify your emotions Anxiety and why it isn't an emotional state but a clue to your emotions Isolation and why so many people struggle with anxiety and depression What advice she would give to her 20 year old self Join The Healthy Maven Tribe to ask guest questions and to find out who will be on the show before anyone else! http://facebook.com/groups/THMTribe Please don't forget to rate + review in iTunes if you love the podcast.
