October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we are grateful to bring you this conversation with Judy King as she shares her experience with the disease. Her mother, who passed away from metastatic breast cancer, was the first in her family to be tested for the mutation in her BRCA gene - a mutation that drastically increases the likelihood of developing breast cancer. As a result, many in her family also chose to get tested, including Judy. After Judy also tested positive for the BRCA mutation, she decided to undergo a preventative double mastectomy to hopefully block the cancer from ever appearing. She has chosen to authentically share her journey of health with us and so many others, in the hopes of continuing her mother's legacy of life-saving education.
This week we break down MK's bachelorette weekend and discuss the importance of continuing to foster community as adults. XOXO, Molli & MK
When Jera Foster-Fell started her Instagram account in 2014, her intention was to create a space for connection and accountability as she worked toward new fitness goals. Over the last 5 years, the account has evolved right along side her. From her journey to become a SoulCycle Instructor, to sharing life post-Soul as her goals and vision has grown and changed; Jera authentically connects to her community and inspires joy and healing in all her spheres of influence.
This week we bring you our conversation with Dr. Jess Hinojosa, a PhD educated scientist who took her love for the earth and her passion for environmentalism to...a big oil company? As Dr. Jess explains, what we need right now as we continue to combat climate change is by galvanizing our spheres of influence (work, home, local and federal governments) and demand larger scale change. She gives us the basics of climate change and a road map for what we can do to help reduce some of that carbon footprint.
As her birthday fast approaches, Molli let's us in on her theme for this new year of life and we chat about the long but worthy word of getting a PhD in ourselves. XOXO, Molli & MK
This week, we talk about how we've lovingly and compassionately called bullshit on ourselves recently. WE'RE DONE! We're dropping the old tired stories that have kept us in the repetitive cycles. We're sharing the habits and behaviors we've adopted over the last few weeks that are keeping our vibes high! XOXO, Molli & MK
We're back! And we can't wait for you to hear our interview with Pete Roller. In addition to being a Bay Area lululemon ambassador, Pete was also one the driving forces for the formation of the San Francisco chapter of Back on My Feet. Back on My Feet is a nonprofit organization that works to combat homelessness through the power of running, community support and essential employment and housing resources. Pete describes how his search for community and connection in a new city led him to Back on My Feet, and how his time volunteering with the organization helped him clarify his values, and find alignment in all areas of his life. After you give the episode a listen, please check out Back on My Feet and ways to get involved! We will see you out there!
Time flies when you're having fun and you're figuring things out! We blinked and suddenly we've been thriving for 6 months. So we wanted to take a pause and reflect on this ride and what we've learned so far. Here's to the next 6 months! XOXO, Molli & MK
Here's your recipe for how to listen to this week's episode: First, follow Chef Laura Lea of @lauraleabalanced on Instagram. Next, pick out a delish dish from the plethora of healthily reimagined southern comfort food she has concocted. Then, press play on this interview as you get to cooking and get inspired by this chef's story. Ever since Chef Laura Lea found healing through holistic cooking, she has been on a mission to empower other women to find their own healing through food. In addition to being a phenomenal chef and author, Laura Lea is also a thoughtful entrepreneur who has carved out a meaningful career and purpose filled life by trying things, trusting her intuition, and surrendering to the timing of her life.
A quick comment Molli made the other morning helped MK see the rest of her day through a lens of miraculous abundance. It's easy to let ourselves focus on only noticing the problems or the things that might not be going according to plan. Can you challenge yourself this week to notice the miracles that are happening every moment? How does it change the energy of your days? We'd love to know how a fresh perspective feels for ya! XOXO, Molli & MK
Listening to Makshya Tolbert speak feels like listening to a beautifully written piece of prose, which is one of the many reasons we feel fairly certain we'll be reading a book written by her some day soon enough. In our conversation, Makshya opens up about her journey from the classroom to the farm, the lessons she has learned from tending to the land, and the regenerative nature of grief. There is so much healing and wisdom in her words and insights. You can follow along with Makshya on Instagram @processdaily, as she continues to farm, cook, create incredible ceramic pieces, and share her beautiful words with the world.
Inspired by our friend, and former guest, Jenny Gaither's Instagram post from earlier this week, we chat today about some of the obstacles we encounter in our quest for inner peace and the liberation that comes from letting ourselves off the hook and trusting that we are enough, and we are exactly where we are supposed to be. XOXO, Molli & MK
We are so thrilled to bring you this conversation with one of our favorite humans, a supporter of She's Thriving since day 1, and an incredibly talented photographer, artist, and businesswoman - the amazing Praise Santos of ComePlum. In addition to being a brilliant photographer, art director, artist, and purveyor of puns; Praise is also an entrepreneur determined to intentionally incorporate her values into every aspect of her business. Whether it's by providing services for other enterprising women or developing a side passion for all things Ethical Weddings, Praise is proof that you don't have to compromise who you are and what you stand for in order to make a profit and build a business.
With the first week of July upon us, we decided it was a great time to have a little mid-year check -n to reflect on our 2019s so far and get clear on what we want the rest of the year to feel like. We used the prompts from one our favorite therapists to follow on Instagram, Lisa Olivera, and had the chance to process and acknowledge the first half of the year, while also setting intentions for the second half. We could not recommend this exercise enough. Give Lisa a follow on Instagram to check out the original post, and we've copied the questions below as well. You can do it with a friend, a partner, in journal; whatever feels good for you! We'd love to hear any reflections you feel called to share. We can't wait to continue building this community with all of you and fill the second half of 2019 with even more THRIVING! XOXO, Molli & MK Lisa Olivera 2019 Mid-Year Reflection Questions 1. How has 2019 been for you so far? 2. What are you learning and unlearning? 3. What have you let go of and what has lightened the load? 4. How have you cared for and nourished yourself? 5. What has brought you the most joy? The most challenge? 6. What do you want to cultivate in the second half of 2019? 7. How can you tend to yourself with more compassion? 8. What might support you in connecting with yourself + others? 9. What do you want to add and what do you want to release? 10. What word or intention do you want to carry into the second half of the year?
Alex Katz and his team at Two Chairs are revolutionizing therapy as we know it. When Alex first noticed the issues with our mental healthcare system, he spent months diving deeper into the subject through extensive research and interviews. He concluded what many of us have felt during our own search for the right therapist - the process is unnecessarily complicated, intimidating, and can leave you feeling defeated before you've even begun. Unlike many of us though, he saw this problem and felt compelled to work toward a solution. And so Two Chairs was born. They are using technology to help better match clients to therapists; they're employing those therapists and handling the business intricacies, allowing clinicians the opportunity to focus on their clients; and they're intentionally designing clinics that feel welcoming and warm to make the act of therapy feel like the self-care tool that it is. All of this work is helping to destigmatize therapy and empower people to take care of themselves in a meaningful way.
Sometimes we have to walk away from really great things to make room for new really great things. And that can be a little sad. This week we chat about the grief that comes with change, even when the change is good and exciting, and the expansiveness we each possess to be able to hold all those emotions at once. XOXO, Molli & MK
It's tough to introduce Nkechi Njaka because she is so much more than any one thing. She is an artist, a mindfulness expert, a neuroscientist, a creative director, a community builder - the list of things you can endorse her on LinkedIn for is a million miles long. Luckily, we also get to call her friend. And this week we're bringing you our in depth conversation with Nkechi in which she discusses how she has cultivated a life of creativity and fulfillment in her career. If you've ever felt like your interests and talents are too expansive to be confined by any one job or calling, definitely give this episode a listen and follow Nkechi on Instagram to get inspired.
Our language has power y'all. And the more awareness and intention we bring to it, the more we can harness that power. This week we chat about the ways in which we've witnessed language hurt and the ways in which we've witnessed it empower and heal. And how we can all choose words that are more reflective of love and compassion. XOXO, Molli & MK
We are so excited to introduce you to Rec Room - the athleisure brand of our elder millennial dreams. Gearing up for their official launch this month, Dre and Val stopped by She's Thriving HQ to chat with us about the what inspired these former management consultants to start a fashion brand, their journey of turning their side project into their full-time gig, the intentional care and nourishing they bring to their professional partnership, and their vision for building a company that is in alignment with their vision for the future of our world. These two women are changing the athleisure and fashion game and we recommend signing up for their mailing list ASAP so you can be sure to get your hands on a Rec Room dress to elevate your wardrobe for all your summer soirees. And be sure to follow along on their Instagram page to stay updated on the launch of every line!
On this week's coffee chat, we talk about the nature of chatting, and how low vibration gossip can quickly take us out of alignment. Let's keep finding those high vibe ways to connect with one another! XOXO, Molli & MK
This week we chat about the power of daily check-ins to help us notice and stay curious about our feelings. Are we really tired or is that exhaustion covering up another feeling we're having trouble processing? Are we really angry or is that anger masking some hurt that has not quite healed? Checking in with ourselves daily, bringing awareness to how different activities and situations make us feel, all helps to deepen our relationship to ourself and our needs. Check in with yourself today! XOXO, Molli & MK
This week we discuss the value of shaking up our daily routines to stay inspired. From following the fruits of the season to jumping into a dance class, the possibilities to break out are endless, as are the potential benefits we can reap from stepping out of our comfort zones. Also we accidentally provide you with some unsolicited ASMR. You're welcome! XOXO, Molli & MK
In a special episode this week, Molli and MK discuss the documentary Knock Down the House, a Netflix film that follows the 2018 campaigns of four female candidates: Amy Vilela, Paula Jean Swearengin, Cori Bush, and Alexandria Ocasia-Cortez. The film is an inspiring reminder of how individuals all over the country turned their dissatisfaction, frustration, and anger into action to try and create powerful, positive change. A reminder we felt we needed today as we witness attacks on human rights' in this country, specifically around and individual's right and access to safe healthcare procedures. So we at She's Thriving are making a commitment to our community ahead of the 2020 elections and a commitment to how we want to use this platform in general. We will continue to discuss the things that matter, share the stories we think aren't being heard, provide a space and opportunities for you to GET INVOLVED, and hold each other's hands as we learn and grow and work to build a better world for ourselves and one another.
This week Molli updates us on the healing journey of her relationship with herself and in her marriage. And we discuss the value of experiencing the world through a broader lens of healing. In every interaction, we are either calling out for love or sending love. And so is everyone else. Sending you all the love, Molli + MK
This week we are so excited to bring you our conversation with breathwork facilitator and teacher, Erin Telford. We have both had impactful breathwork experiences led by Erin and we were thrilled by the chance to chat with her in more detail about the power of the breath to heal old wounds, release past traumas, and help us learn and grow.
We caught up this week on some dreams we've been having, some rituals we've been incorporating into our routines, and the radical honesty we're trying to bring to every aspect of our lives. XOXO, Molli & MK
Do you have a dream? WRITE THAT SHIT DOWN! There is power in owning what you want, getting intentional about it, working your ass off, and then surrendering and trusting it will happen the way it is meant to happen. But don't take our word for it, listen instead to the incredible wisdom of Tina Jackson. Tina is a SoulCycle Instructor and professional dancer, but you might recognize her best from Beyonce's Homecoming performance at Coachella 2018. Yet her road to the stage in the desert wasn't always an easy one. She speaks candidly about the highs and lows a professional dancer experiences and how she was able to learn, grow, and shift her perspective from scarcity to abundance; surrendering to the joy she was cultivating and clearing the path for her dreams to manifest in their perfect timing. You don't have to be vying for a shot to dance with Beyonce to relate to the challenges Tina faced and the resilience and love she developed to overcome them.
Expanding on our conversation with our thriving therapist Kat Dahlen, we open up this week about the boundaries we've created for ourselves and the boundaries we are still working on. We discuss the importance of giving ourselves grace and love for being the baby giraffes we are, trying to figure out how to walk in this world, excited for when we hit our galloping stride. Plus MK checks in on all of Molli's plant babies. XO, Molli & MK
Our resident She's Thriving LMFT therapist Kat Dahlen deVos is BACK on the podcast this week, and whoah are we grateful. You might remember Kat from our very first episode, the live recording of our She's Thriving panel from The Wing SF. Kat had such impactful insight that resonated deeply with the two of us and our community as a whole, so we knew we wanted to sit down with her for a longer interview to dive deeper into many of the questions and topics our listeners submitted. We talked about the importance of boundaries, how to identify and interrupt the stories we tell ourselves, and self-compassion as a key tool to enhance our lives and help us thrive. We are so grateful to bring you our conversation with Kat and would encourage everyone to connect with her via Instagram @therapywithkat. You can also connect with Kat and a group of her fellow psychotherapists by checking out the Havn Collective - a wellness community for the curious and courageous created with the mission to demystify therapy, remove the shame, and create conversations around emotional wellness.
This is a pretty good look into the way conversations between Molli & MK go. We started out talking about Beyonce and Jay Z and ended up discussing the painful past of our nation and our responsibility to confront difficult truths in an authentic and healing way. It's our mission at She's Thriving to continue speaking about the shit that matters and bringing along our amazing community as we all grow and heal together. It's our responsibility, to ourselves and each other, to LEARN better so we can DO better. We got this. Together. XO, Molli & MK
Get your pen and notebooks out because this episode is filled with fascinating information you're going to want to write down. Tiffany Kinson, of Balanced with Tiff, vulnerably opens up about her difficult journey of self-love and the critical role Ayurveda played in it. Ayurveda is considered by many to be the oldest holistic healing science. The framework helps individuals achieve balance of the mind, body, and spirit in order to feel fully vital in their lives. Tiff discusses how this school of thought helped her get to know herself better in order to heal and thrive. She shares many of these insights, plus all of her delicious concoctions, on her Instagram @balancewithtiff. If any of her story strikes a chord and you'd like to know more, definitely be sure to reach out to Tiff. She is currently starting the process of studying to become an Ayurveda practitioner and would love to discuss any and all of it with you!
This week we come to you literally live from the closet! We wanted to chat in depth about the goal setting workshop we are hosting on Monday April 29th at Saje Wellness in San Francisco. So we turned the microphone AND the camera on ourselves this week (check out the @shesthriving Instagram for the full video and a look into the infamous closet) to get real about our own personal relationships with goal setting and the experience we are looking to create through our Living with Intention workshop. Be sure to grab your tickets to the event ASAP. We are so excited for an evening of intention to check in with ourselves and feel aligned and excited about the life we are creating. xo, Molli & MK
Molli and MK are pretty sure they have found a pair of entrepreneurial fairy godmothers in Tal Winter and Kate Cutler, founders of bkr, the water bottle phenoms that are becoming your one-stop-shop for all things hydration. Close friends since law school, Tal and Kate found themselves feeling disenchanted by their successful law careers and decided to boldly embark on building a product they believed in for a customer they cared deeply about. Listen as they give us an invaluable crash course in what it's like to start a company, the challenges that come from doing so as a woman, the value of finding a cofounder who compliments your skills, and the perseverance it required to stay in alignment with your vision.
We are in for a treat for this week’s coffee chat. We had a very special visitor to the closet - MK’s mom Moey! In addition to being a number one fan of the podcast, Moey is a constant source of love and support and hilarity in our lives and we loved having her brief but wonderful commentary. Molli also makes some literary confessions as we break down the stories we are told and taught; and our responsibility in noticing the missing voices.
We recently sat down with Molly Bellar, Creative Director of Stella & Dot, to hear how she has consistently carved out a career that utilizes her talents and passions in a fulfilling way. The role of Creative Director isn’t necessarily one you can study for with an undergraduate degree, but Molly has been able to leverage her gifts to work cross-functionally with teams throughout her career and build her dream roles in a variety of companies. She also made the bold decision, in the middle of her professional success, to take a dream trip with her husband and two children, pausing the hustle and bustle of their lives to travel all over the world for 6 months. I repeat, she traveled to multiple foreign countries with 2 children under the age of 6, for 6 months. And still calls it one of the best decisions she’s ever made. We hope Molly's story helps remind you of your power to design the life that helps you THRIVE!
So wait, who exactly is thriving? This week we wanted to breakdown who we are talking about when we refer to "she" (hint, it's us!) But the community and space we are trying to build here at She's Thriving HQ is an inclusive one. So we wanted to take a moment to make it clear that the thriving is for EVERYONE! xo, Molli & MK
Today we hear from Kenna Kryger as she shares her personal journey of sobriety. She openly and vulnerably discusses the pain and loneliness of her addiction, along with the hard work required to heal. We were moved to hear how much love and compassion she has for both the woman she was and the woman she has grown to be. She has created a life she loves filled with community and support, all while helping others along in their journeys toward healing as well. She is so generous with her spirit and wisdom; we hope you find as much inspiration in her story as we did.
MK & Molli sit down to discuss the merits of some casual lady bragging. It's time to heal any conditioning we've received that convinced us we weren't allowed to be big and loud about how amazing we are. Sharing our accomplishments, our moments we're proud of, our joy and excitement is all a part of self-love, so no more hiding it! We want you shouting it from the rooftops with a megaphone! Let us know what you are excited about in your life right now so we can get inspired and excited too! xo, Molli & MK
Kamelle Mills is a force of joy and love in this world, and he recently sat down with us to discuss the new way he plans to harness all of the positivity and creativity he has cultivated over the years. In addition to being a Senior SoulCycle Instructor based in the Bay Area, Kamelle has finally honed in on another cause that has been calling to him for quite some time. He is mere days away from the kick off event launching his new nonprofit, PROFOUNDations. In this weeks episode, Kamelle opens up about the people and experiences in his own life that had a profound impact in shaping him to be the phenomenal, authentic leader he is today. And he shares his dreams for making such profound experiences accessible to the community of LGBTQ youth of color that PROFOUNDations will serve.
Spring has sprung y'all! And whooooh we are feeling IT. There's a new season, a new moon, and lots of new and exciting things happening in our lives. And with all this newness, comes new tension and new stress that so often accompanies growth. So we decided to take a breath to check in with ourselves and each other and open up about how we've been feeling and what we've been doing to take care of ourselves. What are you doing these days to check in with yourself? How are you feeling in this new season? Let us know! XO, Molli & MK Also, here is a link to the Almost 30 episode we refer to, featuring Ruthie Lindsey!
Charlotte Macaulay didn't always know she wanted to be a fashion designer, but once she knew, she enthusiastically and joyfully hustled for her dream, and the synchronicity that ensued will give you goosebumps! Check out this week's episode to hear how she originally encountered her creative calling. And get inspired by how she transformed that calling into a career and her current role as VP of Design at Stella & Dot. Charlotte also opens up about her experience navigating promotions and pregnancy, and gets real with us about how she maintains her sense of self in her approach to motherhood.
Inspired by our recent conversation with Jenny Gaither, founder of Movemeant Foundation and Boss Babe Blueprint, we wanted to have our own open and honest conversation about our relationships to our bodies and food. Warning - we discuss our experiences with diet culture and disordered eating and our paths to healing in this episode. If you are struggling with any of these issues around food or body image, visit Project HEAL for additional support and resources. We love you so much and we hope you send yourself some love today too. XO, Molli & MK
We are so excited to bring you this inspiring and vulnerable conversation with one of our dearest friends and mentors, the incomparable Ms. Jenny Gaither. In addition to being a Master Instructor at SoulCycle, Jenny is the Founder and CEO of Movemeant Foundation, a non-profit that uses fitness as a tool to help girls and women build self-worth and confidence. In this new year, she is expanding her work to empower women through the launch of her Brave Babe Blueprint health coaching service. She opens up about how she had to get real about her motivations, how that has changed the way she approaches social media, and what we all can be doing to be building a better future. You can find out more information on her coaching and Movemeant events, like Dare to Bare, on her website: https://www.jennygaither.com/.
Rest is self-care. Rest is self-care. Rest is self-care! It's a phrase we find repeating to ourselves often, and this week we discussed the specific strategies we use to ensure we are getting the proper rest and reset that we need. We also chat about our struggles with shame and guilt around rest, and the internal work we've done to heal those stories. Get in that bath and give this episode a listen! xoxo, Molli & MK
