All or nothing thinking keeps us stuck in lack. It keeps us stuck in the story that 'when' circumstances align perfectly then we'll be happy, love ourselves, start writing, etc. But if you're open to living with more joy, then I recommend that you try 'all or something' thinking on for size.SHOW NOTESWe're all birthing something (or creating, handcrafting, bring to life or fruition, building, spilling over/offering something). But what happens when life is really messy and the waves keep on coming, intense as ever? Do we throw in the towel, sink into despair, or abdicate the privilege and responsibility of bringing our vision to life and/or helping build a world we want to live in? In 2018 I wrote a simple post about choosing all or something. This practice has helped me over the past 5 years and continues to encourage me today. In this episode I chat about drawing a new map for this season of life, mining for the beauty and wisdom in every season, laying a foundation of health, and some of the ways I'm practicing all or something so that I can keep writing and showing up for life though I've been experiencing high anxiety.LINKS/REFERENCESJust Choose All or Something: read the post here.Lunar Abundance, Dr. Ezzie Spencer: take a look here (referral link)Reignite Your Creativity Worksheets - get the worksheets here.Find Krista on FB: A Life in Progress and also Rebranding Middle Age. She began her career as a human rights lawyer in Australia and completed her Ph.D in therapeutic jurisprudence after surviving toxic relationships, to help other women survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault seek justice. As an empathic soul, this demanding career led her to once again seek the mystical in the moon and the stars, and the result is her best selling book "Lunar Abundance®. On this episode of the ‘cast Court and Shaun are discussing the New Moon! The New Moon is the first phase of the lunar cycle, the darkness of which encourages us to look inward for direction, allowing us the opportunity to plan the start of our lunar cycle. During the New Moon, we strategize and plant seeds, begin goal-setting, and come up with ideas. What do we want to accomplish throughout the lunar month? The New Moon is the time to decide on the focus. Bus Stop is one of Marilyn Munroe's most critically acclaimed films. She acts a treat, that is for sure … but the moral of the story, eeek!We see a courageous young woman from a small town on a mission to Hollywood, paying her own way across the country …… until she is “spotted” by a young man who decides he is going to take her back to his ranch, her dreams be dammed. We see Marilyn's character repeatedly decline his advances, we watch her literally run away from him in public, as he continues to pursue her, right into her bedroom as she wakes up one morning. When she again declines his proposal and attempts to catch a bus out of town to escape him and carry on with her dreams …… he literally throws a lasso around her and pulls her back to him as she attempts to board the bus.A lasso.Eventually, Marilyn's character rips up her (dreams) map to Hollywood. The screen goes dark as she heads to the ranch.Even though this film is from the 1950s, IMO we cannot underestimate how older pop culture depictions of unhealthy pursuit still unconsciously imprint our psyches re: how ppl are supposed to behave if they like someone. All genders are affected. The number of clients who come through my door in 2022 who are still scarred by this type of thinking tells the tale! That can run the gamut of thinking that love-bombing = love … … to wondering why a well-regulated, emotionally mature human no longer gets turned on by climbing Rapunzel's tower. But then again, after #MeToo, what is healthy pursuit? In these recent years of reworking social and gender norms, together with a major tech disruption of how we meet and mate… IS THERE ANY WONDER that we might be confused about all this? What DOES healthy pursuit look like in dating? If you're curious about this for yourself, I offer questions for contemplation plus examples of healthy pursuit in today's episode.x Ezzie P.S. In this week's episode, Melissa talks about lunar abundance and how it affects us as women. Hormonally, in our reproductive years, there are four phases of the menstrual cycle that energetically apply to us. The moon also goes through four phases in a month, and those phases directly mirror our menstrual cycle. Off of these moon cycles, we can organize our lives! Melissa highlights what the moon cycles mean for us and what we should do during each phase.

In this episode, I’m delighted to be joined by Dr. Ezzie Spencer, author of “Lunar Abundance” and the “Lunar Abundance Journal.” After first hearing her interview with Jess Lively in 2017, I was deeply inspired by her story. Ezzie started out as a lawyer in Australia, and also holds a Ph.D in emotional well being. Starting in childhood, Ezzie found herself drawn to the moon and its phases in cycles, and found herself returning to its magic and cycles as she looked for ways to cope with the stress of life as a lawyer. In this episode, Dr. Ezzie Spencer and I talk about: -Her early sparks of joy in watching the moon -Working as a lawyer, and finding herself at the brink of burn out -Returning to the inspiration of the moon and its cycles and phases -How to take inspiration from the lunar phases and cycles as a way to pace our own lives -Re.love, and her work with women who have experienced toxic relationships -How to jump start your joy: set an intention to be joyful, meditation, asking what is the one thing you’re grateful for, right now? When we come in tune with the moon cycle, it's a way to come in tune with ourselves, and then when we come in tune with ourselves and our environment, there's an invitation to become more present. – Ezzie Spencer On this episode of the Plan Simple Meals Podcast, I'm really excited to talk with Ezzie Spencer, author of the Lunar Abundance book and journal, and creator of Re. Love, about moon phases and how tuning into the moon affects us. Ezzie started her career in law focusing on domestic violence and women's safety. When she realized something elemental was missing from her own life, she started to tune into her body's rhythms and cycles, and reconnected with the moon cycle. She began to notice patterns in her energy and her desires correlated to the cycle of the moon. She found that the moon cycles are not only a way to feel better and more energized, but also a way to be a lot more productive as a result. The moon cycle and our own corresponding cycles marry predictability and change. We talk about: Tracking the moon and letting it be a mirror to yourself Slowing down to notice what we are feeling in the moment and connecting it to the moon cycle Setting intentions at the new moon Becoming more in tune to your intuition and able to separate from external voices Showing up daily for our intentions as we move through other cycles of the moon Moving into a more sustainable pattern of being and doing phases and learning to embrace the pause Celebrating what we have achieved and received BIO Dr. Ezzie Spencer is a best-selling author and coach living in New York City. Starting out as a lawyer in Australia, Dr. Ezzie worked in the area of women's safety, which led her to complete a Ph.D in emotional well-being after domestic abuse. During her doctorate, she started personally coaching women on well-being. First through her coaching, and then also her books, talks, retreats, and online platforms, Dr. Ezzie has supported tens of thousands around the world to heal and harness their personal power. Dr. Ezzie specializes in helping women recover from toxic relationships so they can rebuild epic self-confidence, rekindle their optimism about the future, and finally find the courage to put themselves back out there to attract real love. Start by simply tracking the moon and noticing what's happening. You can watch the moon or use a moon cycle planner. Then journal about how you are feeling, your energy, what you want, how your own cycle compares. SET NEW MOON INTENTIONS. Use a lunar planner to find the next moon. Then use that time to set an intention. There is always another new moon, so there's always an opportunity to start. Really ask yourself, what is it that I want to welcome into my life? Allow yourself to really listen to the answer from your heart and body wisdom. Think of it more about feeling than about a goal. CELEBRATE. When I first heard Dr. Ezzie Spencer on another podcast back in 2017, I knew I had to talk to her. She’s the author of Lunar Abundance, and she’s defined a framework for creating a natural balance in your life that is all based on the moon, it’s cycles and phases. Now, before you shut this email thinking this is some new-fangled out-there hippy talk (this would be exactly why I’d keep reading, but, to each their own) … keep reading because there’s some big aha moments ahead. One of the things that Ezzie talks about, and that feels like a missing piece of my life’s puzzle was that the moon has two different kinds of cycles: those with “doing” or Yang cycles that have a more masculine quality, and those cycles that are Yang, or “being” and have more feminine qualities. And the moon goes through four of each of those cycles every month. Action: The marriage of being and doing: and there are a couple of ways to try this out. Starting tomorrow, we hit the first new moon of the year and you could try out Ezzie’s Lunar Abundance approach. I love the structure and process that she’s set out. If that seems like a bit much for you right now, allow yourself to be inspired by the idea of following the phases of the moon and build in down time to your day, your week, and your month. Where can you mindfully note that you might like a break? For example, my coach, Jennifer Lee, sets aside Fridays for creative time. I’ve started blocking off Wednesdays for myself so I know I have a breather in the middle of the week. Where can you block off some time to rest? This week Dana reflects on the cycles that we can work WITH or AGAINST in life. Including our circadian rhythm, the lunar cycle and of course, seasons. She shares her own experience during this particular cycle, and her desire to spend a lot of time in quiet reflection. Additionally, she offers some simple and effective questions that you can contemplate. Ultimately, Dana asks you to consider: Can you really grow if you don’t slow down to look at your life and decide what’s working and what isn’t? Having compassion for ourselves is something that can oftentimes be quite the struggle. In today's episode with Natalie Kelley we break down what it means to have compassion for yourself in exercise, lifestyle, health, and overall self appreciation. Nat is an inspirational woman looking to help others find peace with their bodies and learn to embrace the life they live. Her transformation over the years has allowed her to move from exercise addiction to a fitness certification; from disordered body image to self love; and from feeling unfulfilled to truly thriving on life. As a part of her journey we also discuss her battle with Ulcerative Colitis and how it has changed her life for the better. The approach she takes to healing is through a well balanced lifestyle that can relate to anyone struggling with health issues or overall feelings of low self worth. Ezzie Spencer was a hard driving lawyer working for social justice in her home of Australia, when she started doodling the moon's phases in the margins of her journal. In the process, she found herself rediscovering timeless truths about the cycles of nature, and how the human psyche is tuned in to these cycles, if only you pay attention. She began to share the practice she developed for herself with her friends and colleagues, and from their encouragement it grew into a book called Lunar Abundance, a lunar-inspired self-knowledge and self-care practice, which became a bestseller. Ezzie also holds a PhD in emotional wellbeing after trauma. Together with tracking the moon cycle, this was her entry into the importance of the emotional realm, which she continues to explore through her work today. Ken talked with Ezzie about her own experience of opening up to these subtle but powerful spiritual currents, and how she navigated the path for herself. She has an inspiring and instructive story about how our lives can be transformed when we stop the hamster wheel long enough to notice what else might be going on around us, and inside of us.You can follow Ezzie at her website, ezziespencer.com, and on Instagram at ezziespencer. Truthfully, I don't go back to listen to old episodes (it's weird hearing your own voice!), but from the 40 episodes this season, a bunch of important lessons learned still stand-out. Enhance your life by tuning into the natural rhythm of lunar ebbs and flows. Continuing our conversation with author Ezzie Spencer, PhD, we dive deeper into how we flourish by better understanding the cycles of the moon. Ezzie helps clarify if we need to work with same intention multiple times, or just one per lunar cycle. She also goes through the full 8-phase moon cycle as outlined in her book. Learn what you should (and shouldn't) focus on in each of these 8 cycles. In a time in which we feel increasingly disconnected from nature, Ezzie's Lunar Abundance practices offer a path to reconnection. Dr Ezzie Spencer wants people to flourish. "I'm so excited for this podcast episode today because I have the pleasure of interviewing the amazing Ezzie Spencer of Lunar Abundance. I've been following Ezzie for several months now and I'm just always so impressed with the amazing information that she puts out about the different lunar cycles and moon phases." Ashley: So, Ezzie thank you so much for being here with me. Ezzie Spencer, PhD: It's my pleasure to be here. Ashley: Could you just maybe introduce yourself to everyone really quickly and tell us a little bit about your business and your work with lunar energy? Ezzie: Of course! I am an author and a speaker and I do some consulting work as well. I basically teach others how to connect in with the moon cycle to create a better life. More specifically, to really live in the flow of life and to tap into that joy and peace and sense of purpose which so many of us are really yearning to find. It's a personal practice that I share from my own experience and my own quest to come back to myself and to create more abundance in every single way in my own life. Disclosure: The links here are affiliate links, meaning I may earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase. Yay! Ashley: Oh thank you so much for that. I am so excited about this book! I find myself in the position of someone who really needs to read this book because like so many of us, at times I feel really disconnected from what's happening in my body and with my emotions. We're always looking for a way to reconnect with that part of ourselves. In your book, Lunar Abundance, this is really the main focus. It's about this re-connection to your inner self. It's about tuning into your own energy by using the moon as a mirror. I was wondering, could you tell us how the moon and these cycles, these ebbs and flows, really help us reconnect to that part of ourselves? - because this is a big part of what you speak about in the book. Ezzie: Yes for sure. So I really did live from the neck up in so many ways when I was younger. This is one of the reasons why I felt that there was something missing in my own life. I really felt that sense of disconnection in my life. I was working in a very different career. My job was in the field of law and there was a lot that was good about that, but I couldn't ignore the sense of feeling divorced from who I really was. I was out of tune with the natural cycles and rhythms of my own body and natural flow of life. I also felt like I had lost that connection with the natural environment and that sense of mystery and magic which I had as a child. It started to disappear when I went down that more traditional path to get some of those external trappings of success, if you will. I wanted to come back to myself to cultivate that sense of self-awareness of who I really was and why I was here on this Earth. I needed to cultivate a deeper relationship with my own feelings and emotional world, with both my inner world and my physical body as well. Eventually, I found that sense of that femininity and natural joy by working with the moon cycle. I was drawn to this very, very organically ten years ago, before it was a big thing on the internet and on social media. It was something which I started to connect with when I was writing my journal at night. I was trying to make sense of how I was feeling about my place in the world. So I started to draw little faces of the moon throughout my journal - the whole cycle, not just the full moon. I found that throughout the entire moon cycle there was this natural correlation between where the moon was in the sky and how I was feeling within myself. Those correlations would actually repeat over multiple moon cycles, so they became this pattern that would be predictable. Through this, I started to understand more about myself and the rhythms in the world. There's a lot of theories about why the moon has the effect that it does,

Episode 64: The Moon Card and Moon Cycles with Dr. Ezzie Spencer. In this episode of Tarot Bytes, I'm talking with Dr. Ezzie Spencer, author of Lunar Abundance, about the Moon card, Moon cycles, and two questions you can ask the tarot around the New Moon and Full Moon.
It's a New Year and today, Tammi and Sondra reflect on 2017, specifically on their respective practices of picking a word for the year. They talk about when they each started the practice, why they do it and how it has shaped their years. They also share their chosen words for 2018 and the intentions behind their choices. It's time to retire that old, non-effective practice of resolution-setting. They hope that in sharing this practice, you may be inspired to set your own intentions for your New Year's Evolution, setting you up for success in the coming year. The ladies share their top three tools in their Unruffled Toolbox for the week: Sondra: (1) Free lunar planner from Lunar Abundance; (2) Femmenessence Macalife; (3) Invincible Living by Guru Jagat Tammi: (1) Art + Notes yearly desk folders; (2) Moleskine Weekly Notebook/Diary Planner; and (3) Apartment Therapy's January Cure.
How much do you love and appreciate being a woman? Come on, be honest. How much do you really love bleeding every month? How much do you really appreciate the fact that your mood shifts every two seconds? How much do you really love the fact that anything can make you cry, that you can't shut your mouth when needed, you feel guilty about pretty much everything, that everything feels right and wrong at the same time, oh and you know that feeling that you have to apologize for everything? How much do you really love that about yourself? How about your constant search for balance? I don't hear men looking for balance. How come they have it and we don't?? Admit that you feel unappreciated at home because it is clear that you do much more than your partner. Your work never ends. We've all been complaining that we have two shifts, one starts once you leave home and the other starts once you come back home. How do you feel about the biological clock question (is it time to have a baby, should I wait should I not). How much do you love your female body? How much do you love these curves of yours, stretch marks, the saggy belly that you've earned after multiple pregnancies, oh and don't get me started talking about being pregnant, I mean up to six months is was kinda cute but after that, I felt like a whale or a sea lion)? Are you with me so far? Then there are deeper layers to this question, deeper layers pertaining to your womanhood. As women, I think we all struggle with setting boundaries, to protect ourselves and our families (but how to do it in a way that doesn't make us look bad?). How about knowing what you want with regards to your life's purpose? I hate this question! What do you mean what I want? I want everything and I want it now! How about the feeling we all have that we are in constant competition with no other than other women? How absurd is that? I love this quote “A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.” How are you doing with regards the most complicated relationship you'll have, which is with your MOTHER? So yeah, being a woman is messy, juicy, complicated, chaotic (sometimes) but so beautiful, wild and majestic. Unfortunately, so many women (and I include myself in this as well) would much rather be men. Life seems easier as a man. However, If there is something the world is missing at this point in time is more feminine power. More flexibility, fluidity, and compassion. Which are all qualities of the divine feminine. What is a woman? What does it mean to be feminine? Womanhood and femininity both embody polarity. There is softness on one side but harshness on the other, compassion on one side and ferocity on the other. As women, we all strive to live in contentment and adventure, freedom and service. We all, in some way, possess beauty, creativity, intuition, and love, although most of us have no idea how to embody womanhood and live in alignment with our divine feminine superpower. I'm not pretending to know more than you on this topic, I do admit, however, that I am super curious and thirsty to figure it out and hope you will join me on this journey. What you need to know is that you are made for love, and you are loved, cellulite and all. My goal with this particular podcast episode is to expose every woman to the richness and beauty of her female body and how to use this knowledge so you can live your life with ease and flow. Many of us don't know that the female body is cyclical in nature, meaning it restores itself in a cyclical rhythm (as opposed to the masculine nature which is linear for the most part). Don't get me wrong, men cycle as well, however their cyclicality culminates every 24 hours, as opposed to women who cycle for 30 days. What are some examples of nature's cycles? Seasons (weather and climate change appx every quarter), day and night (change every 24 hours), the moon (which goes through four phases each month). As human beings we are not disconnected from nature, the contrary is true, we are part of nature and, as a result, our bodies also go through cycles and changes. Females, in particular, cycle through menstruation which averages 28 days, which, interestingly is very similar to the phases of the moon, and we'll talk about that in a second. Before I go any further into this topic, I want to include a side note. If your cycle is less than 28 days or more than that you can still benefit from this as well. We are talking about an average here, but the point to remember here is the predictability. If your menstrual cycle is pretty regular and repeats regularly, this info is relevant to you. First of all, you need to know that we, women, are connected to the moon (which also is on a 30-day cycle), so in case you no longer menstruate, you can still benefit from cyclicality by following the four phases of the moon every 30 days. So, If your menstrual cycle is irregular, due to conditions such as polycystic ovaries (aka PCOS), PMS, weight gain, or if you are still breastfeeding and haven't gotten your period yet, you can still live in cyclicality, but instead of your body's rhythm, you can sync yourself to the four phases of the moon. If you are interested to learn more about this you can follow Dr. Ezzie Spencer online who is the creator of LunarAbundance.com, where she teaches women how to benefit from your relationship with the moon. I know this sounds woo-woo, but believe me, this stuff actually works. Think of it as a lost wisdom which you are relearning. I am actually working on bringing her on the show for an interview, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, I will include her website in the show notes so you can check her out. Just like most things in nature (four phases of the moon, four phases of seasons), there are 4 different phases of the female cycle: Menstrual Phase - begins on the first day of menstruation and lasts until the 5th day of the menstrual cycle. The following events occur during this phase: The uterus sheds its inner lining of soft tissue and blood vessels which exits the body from the vagina in the form of menstrual fluid. Blood loss of 10 ml to 80 ml is considered normal. You may experience abdominal cramps. These cramps are caused by the contraction of the uterine and the abdominal muscles to expel the menstrual fluid. Follicular Phase - This phase also begins on the first day of menstruation, but it lasts until the 13th day of the menstrual cycle. The following events occur during this phase: The pituitary gland secretes a hormone that stimulates the egg cells in the ovaries to grow. One of these egg cells begins to mature in a sac-like-structure called follicle. It takes 13 days for the egg cell to reach maturity. While the egg cell matures, its follicle secretes a hormone that stimulates the uterus to develop a lining of blood vessels and soft tissue called endometrium. Ovulation Phase - (day 14) On the 14th day of the cycle, the pituitary gland secretes a hormone that causes the ovary to release the matured egg cell. The released egg cell is swept into the fallopian tube by the of the fimbriae. Fimbriae are finger-like projections located at the end of the fallopian tube close to the ovaries and cilia are slender hair-like projections on each Fimbria. Luteal phase (day 15-28) - This phase begins on the 15th day and lasts until the end of the cycle. The following events occur during this phase: The egg cell released during the ovulation phase stays in the fallopian tube for 24 hours. If a sperm cell does not impregnate the egg cell at that time, the egg cell disintegrates. The hormone that causes the uterus to retain its endometrium gets used up by the end of the menstrual cycle. This causes the menstrual phase of the next cycle to begin. Throughout these 4 different phases, your hormones are at alternating levels. Your energy, diet, willingness to socialize and emotions differ from phase to phase. As females, we are only thaught about the menstrual cycle and most of us know nothing about the other three phases and how to eat, exercise and optimize them for overall health and vitality. Today I want to teach you how you can use this information so that you can THRIVE at work, your relationships, parenting, marriage and other important aspects of your life. This is what I mean by saying - own your divine feminine superpower! Here we go. Let's start by talking about how your diet should vary during each phase: The one thing to remember throughout this entire process is that estrogen, the female hormone, needs to be excreted properly and efficiently from the body. And the best way to do it is via food. Most symptoms that occur from hormonal imbalance issues are the result of excess estrogen. The foods I'm going to mention here support the metabolization of estrogen through your elimination organs and the removal of that unwanted excess from your body. I am going to talk about generic foods here, however, inside the THRIVE mastermind is where we are going to go much deeper into this and you will actually get a complete meal plan with recipes from me based on this philosophy. Follicular phase (before you ovulate, after your period) Artichoke, broccoli, carrot, parsley, green peas, string beans and zucchini Ovulatory phase (when you’re ovulating) Asparagus, brussels sprouts, chard, escarole, scallion, spinach Luteal phase (before you have your period) Cauliflower, collard greens, daikon, onion, parsnip, radish, squash, sweet potato Menstrual phase (your period) Beet, kale, kelp, mushrooms If you eat in accordance with your cycle, your body will get the support it needs to live in alignment with nature, excrete the estrogen efficiently and your painful symptoms will be eliminated. Help your body do what it was designed to do! How your exercise regime should be different in each cycle: Again, since each phase has a different level of hormones, it is not wise to always follow the same exercise regime for every day of your cycle. Here's what you can try instead. During Menstruation: Workout: Walk – keep your workouts mild, even if you’re not feeling major discomfort. When: An evening stroll is a perfect way to get some simple movement. Follicular Phase (the week after your period) Workout: Run When: Mid-day – your estrogen will be low and your cortisol levels will be just right for a challenging cardio burst. Ovulation (mid-cycle) Workout: Intense cardio, dance, or bodyweight circuit When: Early morning – you’ll have tons of energy during this time of the month, so take advantage of that natural high! Your testosterone is higher during this phase, so whatever you do, feel free to go all out! Premenstrual/Luteal Phase Workout: Pilates, yoga When: Keep it early during the first half, and then transition into the early evening. You might still feel full of energy during the first days of your luteal phase, so feel free to keep kicking butt in more intense workouts early in the day. But if you start to experience PMS symptoms in the days before your period, it’s time to tone it down and switch to Pilates or strength training in the early evening. Restorative (yin) yoga before bed can also be hugely helpful in combatting issues like moodiness and bloating. Let's talk about how your social and mental state changes during each phase: You know how sometimes you're feeling magnetic, energized, and dying to meet new people, and other times in the month you feel withdrawn, anti-social like you need to do some meditating/reflecting? If yes, then you're actually already cycling syncing without even knowing! I'm going to talk about where to put the female social and energetic focus during each phase. In general, during my period I spend lots of time alone, reflecting, journaling, and taking long baths. I say "no" to most social situations and use this time as a way to reflect on the past month to see what worked and what didn't. Think of it as a time when your body is shedding a lining, and for you to shed specific habits, people, or hobbies that are no longer serving you. A little "spring cleaning", if you will. In the follicular phase, I set goals for myself and plan out my month. I also set intentions for myself and my career. It's a great time to start projects as your brain is most active with structural thinking. During my ovulation phase, I'm normally most social. I crave time with my girlfriends and say yes to all social invites. I also plan my own calendar according to my cycle. When I'm ovulating, I am most communicative so I plan important business meetings and first dates around this time. I'm also most apt to collaborate during this time. It's a great time to call an old friend or your mother. In the first half of my luteal phase, I feel still social so I still go out and hang with friends. I'm usually most assertive during this phase, no BS. Halfway through, I begin to feel agitated if I am around people too much and begin to feel myself turning inwards. Obviously, in modern day America I don't have the pleasure of saying "no" to all social obligations and meetings, so I practice grace here and do my best to honor my body while staying realistic. If you are at least curious about this way of living, I recommend to check out Alisa Vitti's work about Cycle Syncing, I definitely recommend picking up the book Womancode, get the Floliving myFLO app, and following the FloLiving blog. The Find Your True North podcast and blog are dedicated to exploring intuition and how we use it in our businesses and lives. Together, we’ll learn how to sharpen our intuition to make our daily decision-making easier…we’ll find out how to hear the language of intuition… and we’ll learn how to remove the emotional, mental, and physical barriers we might have to hearing it. Today I’m speaking with Dr. Ezzie Spencer, a published author, speaker, podcast host, and coach. Ezzie trained as a lawyer and has experience in government, research, and nonprofit sectors. She then went back to school for her PhD, where she focused on women’s wellbeing and justice after violence. At some point in her career, she realized she was out of touch with herself, which she’ll tell you all about in our episode. Her journey led her to create Lunar Abundance, a concept that uses the moon cycles to marry intellect with intuition. She now shares her work worldwide. In our conversation, we talk about: ~ her journey from lawyer to lunar abundance ~ how we tend to equate struggle with success ~ marrying the intellect with intuition, instead of treating them as separate entities ~ using the moon as a mirror and timekeeper ~ the difference between how Australian culture and American culture perceive intuition If you’d like to learn more about the Find Your True North podcast, go to www.intuition.today. Dr. Ezzie Spencer is a published author, speaker, and creator of Lunar Abundance, a practice helping thousands of women across the world embody a new way of living in the flow and creating a better life. In this episode, we discuss how aligning with the moon cycle changed her life - especially her career, her relationship to her body and her creativity.
Ezzie’s personal career began as a lawyer. While she enjoyed the busy practice, she was out of touch with her body and her self. Searching for a deeper purpose and meaning, Ezzie began exploring other options. As she journaled, she would look up at the moon. This led to a natural curiosity on how the moon influences people. She began counseling others. This began as a side business. She was delighted to meet others and discover the possibility of coaching others full time. Q & A Why do you feel self love is important? This is the best route to be able to be in the world, and to be yourself, and to have that healthy self respect. And to really be able to make smart choices in your life about who you spend your time with. What was the number one thing that was holding you back from accepting self love? I think a lack of awareness. I don’t think I necessarily had the emotional tools. Who is one person who has changed your life for the better? Kevin Farro, one of my coaches. What is the best advice you have ever received? Question everything. What is a self care habit that you practice regularly? I meditate every day. Can you share a resource, an app or a tool that we can use to build our selfcare practice. “I feel like such a luddite! I feel the best resource is meditation, and for that you can just use your breath.” Do you have a favorite quote? “The body is the mind in 3D.” Buddha. What book are you reading right now? Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. What is the one thing that you are most passionate about? I love helping women to really see the potential for their lives, and then take the practical steps towards realizing them. Guest Bio Ezzie Spencer is an author, speaker and coach. Welcome to today's episode of Unclassified Woman and today we have a special episode for moon lovers! It seems very apt with today's full moon. If you'd like to understand more about how the phases of the moon can affect your mood, mind, body and soul, join Michelle and her guest, Dr. Ezzie Spencer, with today's show. Today we're going to be talking about Ezzie's new book, An Abundant Life, Flourishing With The Cycles Of The Moon, which is her concept of Lunar Abundance and also her personal practice. This practice partners intellect with intuition and it has helped many women throughout the world, through one to one coaching sessions and through the support of Ezzie's flourishing online community at Lunar Abundance.com Ezzie has trained as a lawyer, worked in government non-profit and research sectors and earned a Ph.D in Women's Wellbeing and Justice After Violence. As a result of feeling that something elemental was missing in the intellectual world of law, Ezzie began to explore the correlation that she noticed between her feelings and the phases of the moon. Listen in... I know that you're going to love this magical topic! On today's show, Ezzie and Michelle discuss: Ezzie's book- Ezzie starts out by giving a summary of the subject at hand, as in her book. She says: “It's a step-by-step guide to working with the moon cycles, to be able to create your best version of your life - and it's really practical.” How it stood out for Ezzie in her cultural research, that different cultures, in their beliefs about the moon, would view it as either a Goddess or as a God. As she says: “Often times we think about the moon as feminine and indeed it is Goddess-related in many cultures, but in other cultures, it may viewed as masculine. Ezzie's favourite phase within these cycles, with the understanding that things are constantly moving within the different stages and cycles of the moon, going between the yin and the yang. She says: “I would find that those yin phases would really be welcome and really my favourite phases throughout the month- although they had their own sets of challenges.” Michelle and Ezzie discuss a particular time that people tend to struggle with the most during the cycle. People are familiar with the obvious setting of intentions at the new moon and the dramatic and visible impact of the full moon, but there's a lot more to working with the moon! Ezzie says: “I would say that the number one phase which women tend to struggle with in the practice, is the Gibbous moon phase- a few days before the full moon.” The daily practice which is necessary to develop the awareness within you to assist you through the transitory phases, which may be really intense. Ezzie says: “Just following that constant practice over time will render really great results and change.” Whether this is yet another example of how we have become disconnected from the cycles of nature. Ezzie says: “You're hear anecdotally all the time, even from people you wouldn't expect about the impact of the full moon...” The original meaning of lunacy, according to the Greek Triple Moon Goddess. Ezzie says: “Hecate was a very powerful Goddess and she was one of the very senior priestesses (or patron of priestesses, or patron of witches in Ancient Greece) and she represented wealth and magical powers.” Whether Ezzie has found, in her working with women with her Lunar Abundance Practice, that they have become more in touch with their menstrual cycle. Ezzie says: “I would say that it's one of the things that women are most interested in with the moon work.” What is the best approach when working to deadlines, when one feels that the current moon phase is counter productive to what needs to be done? “It's about working with these two principles (yin and yang) in tandem and harmony.” Working with non-negotiable principles and values during the moon cycles. Ezzie says: “To find those pockets of agency you have to be able to be very intentional about how it is that you live your life.” Ezzie shares some wonderful advice for those women who are still challenged with learning to receive. “There is a whole chapter in the book on receiving and it is correlated in the Abundance Practice with the sixth of the eight lunar phases.” How working with the lunar cycles can have a really positive effect on your level of productivity. Ezzie says: “The yin cycle is key to being, I feel, highly productive, highly effective, but doing it in a way where you're really able to take care of yourself.” The greatest gift that Ezzie feels she's received in practising Lunar Abundance. She says: “I feel like...this sense of relaxing and being able to enjoy life a bit more has been central to my life now, vs my life before this practice.” I hope you love this episode. Lunar Abundance is a guide to cultivating peace, security and purpose in both your personal and professional life, guided by the phases of the moon. Laurie and Ezzie explore the sensory body as a way to anchor within as a focal point, why it takes courage to allow yourself to dream big, the necessity of using discernment when taking action, and how personal development is not the final goal. Ezzie Spencer wants people to flourish. She trained as a lawyer, worked in government and nonprofit sectors, and earned her PhD in women’s wellbeing and justice after violence. While looking into her own self-care, she developed Lunar Abundance, which has reaped results for many women, through Ezzie’s one-on-one coaching sessions and the support of a flourishing online community. She is the author of the book, LUNAR ABUNDANCE, CULTIVATING JOY, PEACE AND PURPOSE USING THE PHASES OF THE MOON. Ezzie lives in Sydney, Australia.
