Writer and burgeoning actor Casey Anderson had his life change when he found the books of Cormac McCarthy, similar to my experience with the Captain Underpants series. We talk about how art teaches patience, engaging people with the barest minimum, and why even as a child he knew Flubber was trash. Casey is making his stage debut in Reasons to be Pretty at Laughing Pig Theatre, opening Friday September 28. Performer and playwright Tayo Talaibi was my guest this week! Like any good interview experience, it started with her threatening to throw shit around the room. Tayo joined me at the Mesa Arts Center to discuss rediscovering acting after giving up on the arts, using the tools the internet provides, and why David Mamet would be great if he figured out what a woman is. Tayo produces work through her organization, Arizona Open Book Society, which you can follow on Facebook. Their next event is a staged reading of Tayo’s short play Lend An Ear, which will happen Saturday, August 11 at 6:30 PM at Lawn Gnome Publishing. You will get to see a sample of Tayo’s work when she performs as part of Laughing Pig Theatre’s next Monologue Cafe, which goes up July 27 and 28 at 7:30 PM. Don’t forget to rate, review and subscribe to get seven years good luck!

Actor, director, and educator Brian Foley doesn't CLOWN AROUND when it comes to CLOWNING AROUND. That took me 7 minutes to think of. He's a circus artist. We shared a pot of tea at a Chinese Restaurant and talked about the public opinion of circus arts, creating and casting a local variety show, and the artitic mantra that 90% of everything is garbage. You can get ready for next month's Valley Variety by going to vvphx.com To learn more about Brian himself, go to brianfoley.net You can keep up with Brenda Foley's great work with the Bridge Initiative at bridgeinit.org There are also a lot of great performing arts summer camps coming up for anyone who knows any parents! Brianna Funk and Tanner Stuff of All Puppet Players had no idea they were going to be interviewed by me until about thirty seconds before they met me in a hallway outside Playhouse in the Park. It reminds me of a lot of "dates" I had in high school. We talked about the freedom of acting through a puppet, catering your shows to a popular appeal, and getting comfortable telling an audience to fuck off. All Puppet Players will next be tackling The Neverending Story, which opens April 13. Support them on Facebook or at allpuppetplayers.com You can also see Brianna's amazing work with special needs theatre at AdaptiveWorks by TheatreWorks. So we met at Echo Coffee in Scottsdale to talk about the stigma of cartooning in the art world, the parallel vulnerability of figure modelling and comedy, and how ee all need to embrace Columbo. Andre Johnson is a TYA actor who believes that we stop putting clear messages in our stories as we get older because we assume we've already learned everything. Unfortunately, he is wrong and I am right. Andre joined me at Cartel Coffee in Tempe to discuss the practicality of college in the arts, the frustrations of having to constantly represent a minority group, and why we should all be more like Terry Crews. Andre has a Youtube channel called CascoreGamer where he does fun playthroughs of video games. Welcome back Starv...ers? Starvettes?Starvies? I wish I had a cool fandom name for the 50 people who listen to this. Anyway I've got a fun episode to bring in the new year! I talked with actress, blogger and contractually-bound life partner Taylor Moschetti! We talked about the difficult decision to pursue a steady income, the extra stress that comes with being plus-sized in the performance world, and why performers are basically just attention-starved babies at heart. Taylor has a plus-sized fashion and lifestyle blog called Born to Eat Cupcakes that you can also find on Facebook and Instagram. You can also catch Taylor teaching beginning acting and improv classes through the Mesa Arts Center with new sessions all year. Taylor has some upcoming events with Laughing Pig Theatre like the Improv Workshop on Friday, January 14 at 7:30 at the MAC. You can also submit monologues all month long to be including in the upcoming Monologue Cafe. More details through the link and on Facebook and Instagram.
