Today on another encore edition of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to Lisa Sutton, daughter of singer Lynn Anderson & music producer Glenn Sutton. Lisa grew up in Nashville, home to her parents and their ‘Countrypolitan sound'  they helped make famous. What's countrypolitan you ask? Good question. It's definitely country music but typically with lush string arrangements, an orchestra and a more stylized sound than what country music is known for prior. It's a sound her Nashville Songwriter Hall of Fame father and her mother Lynn made famous with the massive Joe South penned hit  “I Never Promised You a Rose Garden.” We also talk to Lisa about her perhaps lesser known but perhaps more influential grandparents Casey Anderson and Liz Anderson whose roots in country music as songwriters, performers and connectors led them to a fortuitus meeting with the poet of the common man, Merle Haggard. He gave them their start. Of course we talk roses – it's a theme in Lisa's life that connects back to her mom's massive hit, horses, the National Enquirer and how her father's songs were recorded by everyone from The Louvin Brothers to Etta James. Fans of country music rejoice, we have a winner on this episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast with Lisa Sutten. Take a listen.

In this episode, we explore the findings of a recent study on Neighborhood Change in the Washington DC metropolitan region, with a focus on Montgomery County, Maryland. The research, conducted by the Montgomery County Planning Department, a part of the The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), found that the most pressing issue in the county is low-income concentration, rather than displacement. Additionally, the study revealed that new housing construction is associated with inclusive economic growth in diverse neighborhoods. This research was based on a methodology developed by the University of Minnesota and was advanced by the Research and Strategic Projects Division at Montgomery Planning. The findings were presented to the Montgomery County Planning Board on May 19, 2022, and an interactive map showing low-income concentration, inclusive growth, and displacement in the region is available on the department's website. The Purple Line Corridor Coalition's Housing Action Plan also in place, and the department's long-term vision for the county, Thrive Montgomery 2050, is also discussed. Casey Anderson, the Montgomery County Planning Board Chair, Tanya Stern, Deputy Director and former DC planner, and Ben Kraft, a researcher at Montgomery Planning and the author of the neighborhood change analysis, provide insight on the study's key findings.

Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast we are talking to country music royalty. We are talking to Lisa Sutton who's has not one but four musical legacies and estates to look after. Her mother, the great singer Lynn Anderson is best known for her iconic #1 hit, “Rose Garden” and released, count ‘em, 72 singles in her career. Lisa's father, was Nashville Songwriter Hall of Fame member Glenn Sutton who produced “Rose Garden” and wrote the Grammy winning David Huston hit “Almost Persuaded” as well as “What Made Milwaukee Famous (Made A Loser Out of Me)”, “Your Good Girls Gonna Go Bad” & countless other  songs. The architecht of Countrypolitan sound of the 60s, Glenn's songs were recorded by everyone from Etta James to The Louvin Brothers to Jerry Lee Lewis and Rod Stewart. What's more, Lisa's grandparents were Casey Anderson and Liz Anderson. Liz wrote many country music hits in the 50s and 60s including “Wife of the Party” and “Mama Spank” and it was Casey who invited an iconic soon-to-be country music icon back to their house for pancakes after a show that led to Country music history. What's more Lynn talks to us about growing up in a household where being the ‘hero child' was something of the norm, where riding horses was a huge part of life. What's more, Lisa is so invested in her family legacy that the amateur Rosarian, even brought about the comeback of the world champion Lynn Anderson Hybrid Tea Rose. From songwriting credits, to intellectual property to memorabilia to following through on her parents and grandparents wishes, we don't think you will find anyone more dedicated to her family legacy than Lisa Sutton. And it's all next on the Rarified Heir Podcast.

Listen in this week to a textbook discussion of the process of garagification:  the transmogrification of Fred Neil's "That's The Bag I'm In" from a corny folk ditty to a  titanic garage tune. Casey Anderson gets us started with the first released version of the song , way back in 1962 (5:18). A very Greenwich Village rendition, from the era represented by "Inside Llewyn Davis."  In 1965, the mysteriously and awfully-named Dalek/Engam: The Blackstones rearranged the song and made it ROCK, even giving it some Beatles-esque chords and "Woo"'s! : a crucial step in the alchemy of garagification (56:37)  In '66, Billy Lee Riley crosses the song with "Hallelujah I Love Her So" and reveals a strange connection between the two songs (1:19:47). Oh, and there's bongos! Fourthly, The Fabs finalized the process in September of the same year, adding a cool bass riff, FUZZ, and ORGAN (1:36:08). If you know it, you love it, and if you haven't heard it, you gotta!

Writer and burgeoning actor Casey Anderson had his life change when he found the books of Cormac McCarthy, similar to my experience with the Captain Underpants series. We talk about how art teaches patience, engaging people with the barest minimum, and why even as a child he knew Flubber was trash. Casey is making his stage debut in Reasons to be Pretty at Laughing Pig Theatre, opening Friday September 28. Tickets available at [(laughingpigtheatre.com)] Don’t forget to rate review subscribe and buy tickets to the motherfucking play!

Carey Anderson was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. At a very young age she learned that she had a natural gift for storytelling. Carey would entertain her family and friends with stories about anything going on in her life or theirs.  One classroom assignment forever changed her life opening an unmarked door. Her teacher, who brought out all things creative within her, read her story aloud to the class.  Carey started writing stories as an outlet for the things going on in her life. Once she was in high school she began receiving extra credit from her English teacher for writing stories during her free time after school and on the weekends. Her English teacher suggested that she look into writing children's books, which she still, may do one day.  During a really turbulent time in Carey's life she began writing what is now known as Tracy's Complications, on her iPhone just as a little doodle.  Quickly after finishing Tracy's Complications, Carey began Sometimes Love Isn't Enough and Love Is Just Enough, the story of her life. Carey comes from a large family of cousins, and siblings so having such a large family on Amber or Malcolm's side is not strange or unusual for her. "The Latour's and the Wallace's in a lot of ways are like both of my parent's families, with lots of sprinkles of imagination. Neither side is directly represented in one family, but they're all in there." Again using only her iPhone, Carey crafted this master piece losing lots of sleep because Amber or Malcolm would wake her up to tell her more about their story.
