Welcome to a very special series of Fitness Unfiltered Podcasts; recordings of our very first Conference, FU Live 2020. Recorded virtually in May 2020 in the midst of COVID lockdown, FU Live brought together some of the biggest names in fitness, nutrition and health and raised over £27,000 for UNICEF in the process. In this episode we bring together a group of people who need no introduction, to talk about marketing businesses at a time when marketing is incredibly important, but also at a time where people are struggling in so many ways to the point that traditional marketing methods may feel insensitive or cynical. We were so excited to be joined by the incredible James Smith, Tanya Filer, Paul Mort, and Lawrence Judd to talk through these issues, disagree, and debate. This is not one to be missed... We hope you enjoy this episode, and if you do please give us a review and rating and subscribe to the podcast, tell all your friends and tag us in your social media posts! This week we are joined by the lovely Lawrence Judd of Shredded by Science to talk about all things personal trainer education. As usual we go off on a tangent and talk largely about obesity and barriers to working with clinical populations.
Lawrence is the director of operations at Shredded by Science, which is probably the most kick-ass place for the education and betterment of personal trainers and coaches on the internet. Aside from that, he is just one of my damn good friends and has an incredible sense of humor and a pretty neat outlook on the world which I love hearing about. This convo is just a catch-up sesh between friends, but it covers quite a large array of topics. We chat about how he structures his entire work day, his job responsibilities within Shredded By science and how that company runs, our personal business struggles, his trip to Vietnam, the new products and plans for De Novo Nutrition (which is a supplement company that Shredded By Science is now partnering up with), and a whole lot about his current transition from powerlifting to weightlifting. Towards the end of our talk, we over a TON of resources and websites that helped me when I was first learning the snatch and the clean and jerk. I hope you guys can find a lot of that useful as well. Propane Podcast Episode 83 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKaaCduqz-U Show Notes Do you find yourself falling off the wagon, and into a haze of wagon wheels? When we fail to stick to a new habit (or can’t shake a destructive one), we often think it’s because we’re not motivated enough, or our willpower isn’t strong enough. So we push harder, trying to rely on raw willpower to establish a new habit. This is like trying to sprint everywhere. You can maybe improve your ability to sprint, maybe even quite significantly. ..but trying to do the winter commute that way isn’t so manageable. Recently I covered the secrets of building indestructible habits (and eliminating destructive ones) in depth for our VIP client weekly modules. The Propane Athletes found it so useful for transforming their habits, that they said they didn’t mind if we let this one slip and share it with you guys for free. We discuss the anatomy of a habit, the 90 day goals process, how to make a habit stick, strategies for habit stacking and a whole host of useful tools to aid you in the habit building process. If you like the Propane Fitness Podcast, we'd love it if you'd subscribe and give us a review on iTunes. If there is anything that you'd like us to cover on the podcast please let us know! If you'd like to be considered for the Pick List, or if you'd like to contribute an article then shoot us a message. Our Top Pick this week is: Why Everyone Needs to Meditate - Shane Trotter, Breaking Muscle Meditation is a practice with a slight image problem. It gets nothing but praise from health and psychology literature, and from our most elite performers. But most people see meditation as a bizarre first step towards a life of Volkswagen vans and Birkenstocks. In this article Shane disputes the myths & discusses why we would all benefit from including meditation in our daily practice. The rest of the list is pretty awesome too! Lawrence Judd is the Director of Operations of Shredded by Science (SBS), which is the industry leader in online coaching for personal trainers. That very same company invited myself and the other 3DMJ coaches out to London to do a seminar in the summer of 2016, where I got to spend a week with Lawrence and all of his SBS fam. While I didn’t know much about him before that, we have since become full-fledged internet buddies, appeared on each other’s podcasts, and generally enjoy invading each other’s Snapchat feeds with images of dogs and #FitChick humor. Our conversation was recorded in April of 2017, and we chat about my obsession with his English accent, the body image issues that got him into lifting weights, why we genuinely enjoy very few people, and how his professional route has taken him from a degree in chemical engineering to being a professional in the online fitness space. He freaking cracks me up, I have a blast every time I talk to him, and I hope you guys have a blast listening to this.
