I was so inspired by Julia Linn, that I had to invite her to the podcast and find out what her secrets to transforming her body from sick to healthy. Julia is a 66 year old body builder and online coach. When she was only 11 years old, she had to deal with diabetes, which caused kidney failure, heart disease, retinopathy (diabetic blindness) and nerve damage. Her doctors told her she wasn't expected to even live to 40. But when she turned 34 she had a double organ transplant which cured the diabetes and gave her a working kidney. Fourteen years later when she was 48, Julia needed to have a triple cardiac bypass as her heart disease got worse, and then two years later she had to remove her thyroid. When she hit the 30th anniversary of her life-saving transplant, she decided she had to honor her organ donor Gina by getting into the best shape of her life. Her goal was optimal health, NOT weight loss. She wanted the energy to continue living her dreams, and reaching her goals. Her true motivation was the tremendous gratitude for the gift of life So she started a fitness program as an out-of-shape 62-year old, and then within two years she was competing on stage in two NPC Bikini Masters Body Building Competitions, where she came in first and third. Julia remembers days in the ICU when she didn't know if she was ever going to go home. So for her, to be able to lift weights, feel strong, alive and energetic is the ultimate gift she wants to share with Queenagers. Julia now is certified by the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) as a Personal Trainer. Julia is a true inspiration and wants all women to know that if she can do it, they can do it. And her goal is to help women in their power decades understand how to get in the best shape of their life. Welcome to Episode 55 of the Movement Logic podcast. In this episode, Laurel answers two questions that she gets regularly from folks online. They are: How can I get started with strength training? And, how can I “learn more about” strength training? Spoiler: the best way to get started with strength training (the doing and the teaching) is by…wait for it…strength training! In this episode you will learn: The three most important elements of strength training—exercise technique, programming, and coaching. Why yoga and Pilates teachers are already generally well-versed in exercise technique, but without the added component of external load and the goal of strength. Yoga and Pilates teachers are typically not well-versed in programming, which is how we apply the principle of progressive overload to work toward building strength. Coaching is key for deep understanding of both exercise technique and programming. Laurel's evolution from teaching yoga to becoming a strength coach. The plusses, minuses and trade-offs of DIY program templates, group classes, one-on-ones, and more. How yoga and Pilates teachers are accustomed to learning in a live, follow along format, and given then, how it can be a rude awakening to discover that programs in strength are often delivered in PDF format and personal trainer certifications mostly ask you to read a textbook and pass a test. Why personal trainer certifications do not provide very much practical know-how for how to be a personal trainer. How the Bone Density Course: Lift for Longevity delivers on the three most important elements of getting started with strength and learning about strength training—exercise technique, programming, and coaching. How the CSCS is widely considered the gold standard of personal trainer certifications but that it almost exclusively caters to competitive athletes (who make up a fraction of people who resistance train.) How being a dedicated student of the thing you eventually want to teach is the most valuable way to prepare yourself to actually teach something. How strength is defined, the systems in the body involved, and what the main adaptations (or changes) to your body are when you build strength. That we can be strong in many ways,so it's helpful to have a specific performance goal. Why specific, performance goals are the best way to reach health and aesthetic goals.Sign up for our free info session all about our Bone Density Course: Lift for Longevity Thursday, Sep. 22nd 12 PT/ 3 ETSign up for our Bone Density Course: Lift for Longevity before the October 8th deadline! In this episode, I sit down with registered nurse, Kirsten Curruthers who was curious to know ways she can better support her patients who undergo colonoscopy. Here are some of the things we discuss: Common patient symptom patterns Kirsten notices in the colonoscopy clinicAdvice typically given when colonoscopy results are negative How the pelvic floor is related to our gastrointestinal systemHow a pelvic floor physiotherapist can help with stool incontinence or feelings of inadequate emptying after bowel movementsWays pelvic floor physiotherapy can help people suffering with constipationHow constipation and straining can contribute to GI pathologyWays that breathing and abdominal wall function affect bowel function/motilityBenefits that pelvic floor physiotherapy may have for have for those with irritable bowel disorders (crohns, ulcerative colitis) even when in remission. The importance of a biopsychosocial treatment approachKirsten has been a Registered Nurse for 12 years, in a variety of acute care settings, most recently in the Endoscopy Suite at her local hospital. In one of her past lives, she also spent a few years as Personal Trainer, working with Perinatal women, and became passionate about all things pelvic health, as a result of her own diagnosis of Pelvic organ prolapse. Through working with pelvic health physiotherapy, and incorporating the strategies she learned at physio into her personal training practice, she was able to see the value knowledge of how the core functions could help women in all stages of life. This was further compounded when she began working in the Endoscopy suite, as she began to see the connections between pelvic health and colon health and function. This crossover between two worlds allowed Kirsten to see the gap in knowledge between gastroenterology and physiotherapy which sparked her interest into learning more and developing connections. Kirsten believes that education is power when it comes to your health, and strives to share as much knowledge as possible with her patients and peers, and takes every opportunity to share what she has learned, whether that means presentations to colleagues, or sitting down with a patient and making a plan of care that meets their needs.Cheerful AcademyLearn more about the next Pelvic Health Fundamentals cohort here (Starts Jan 2024):www.thecheerfulacademy.comClick on this link for $150 off applied at checkout:Discount linkOr enter code: 150offDiscount code in effect until Dec 15th 2023Thanks for joining me! Today, we delve into the profound transformation that took me from using exercise as a tool to facilitate disordered tendencies to embracing it as an essential act of self-care, empowerment, and creativity.I'll take you through the pivotal moments in my life where I transitioned into cultivating a healthier relationship with recovery. We'll explore how I found a supportive community, struck a balance in my fitness journey, and learned to celebrate the remarkable capabilities of my body.I also share the experience of overcoming gym anxiety, intimidation, and self-doubt, ultimately transforming a once-intimidating space into a sanctuary of empowerment and self-growth.From running to strength training, from 5k races to half marathons, I share the profound impact of endorphins, the joy of movement, building relationships, feeling a part of a community, the excitement of race participation, and the (psychological and physical) strength regained along the way.Transformation Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-7TP7s-D58

https://paypal.me/Truelifepodcast?country.x=US&locale.x=en_UShttps://linktr.ee/be.better.coachinghttps://bebetter.nz/A recovering workaholic, obsessive analyst, chronic overachiever and chaser of ‘success', now reformed and actively living my best life by serving others and helping them to uncover theirs. The story of my life began with a journey of survival, I was born dead and ‘died' a further two times within the following 12 hours. While a morbid topic, this set the scene for the majority of the rest of my young life. The child of two alcoholics each solo parenting me for a portion of my life but both deeply flawed in their own special ways. I am the son of an insanely over protective, outdated-in-his-beliefs yet loving and incredibly creative father, and of a vengeful, torn, broken, militarily strict and deeply scarred yet amazingly powerful mother that possessed incredible mental resolve.I have worked myself to the bone so often that I've had multiple complete burnouts throughout my corporate and work life.I have survived childhood abuse in almost all its forms. Violence, grief and terror all in almost equal mix.I have been flat broke and displaced (yes, that means homeless), without anywhere and anyone in the world multiple times.I have experienced the loss and death of people close to me more times than I care to count and I have moved homes, lives and communities over two dozen times in my life.I have been drastically overweight (162+kg, 357+lbs) and addicted.I have had failed relationships and broken, abandoned friendships.I have failed, and fallen and gotten it wrong in some of the most severely impactful moments of my life. So, why share all this? Because, I have an amazing life that I love and it's important to me that you understand my perspective on life, living and the lessons that brings.I want you to really know the value and viewpoint I bring to the table and the insight I can leverage to assist you with building your goals, ambitions and dreams. And most importantly, I need you to know that I don't give up, even if on occasion you unintentionally give up on yourself. Anyone can be the person they want to be, if they're willing to work for it.I coach based on transparency, authenticity and vulnerability and combine these with clear and practical tools and systems to deliver life changing results to the people I work with. I honestly believe in serving you to the best of my ability, and part of that is being open about who I am, where I come from, what I'm about, and what I can bring to your personal journey or the leadership development of your business.I don't just teach and coach my values, I live them. And I'd love to help you live yours too. https://paypal.me/Truelifepodcast?country.x=US&locale.x=en_US
