Join us for a new Sh*t Talkers Weekly podcast episode. This week Cam and James kick things off with stories about James' tux mishaps, skipping showers, and sweating it out in the mountains. They dive into embracing misunderstanding, resistance, and why that's fuel for growth. Topics heat up with a breakdown of the "GenPop" era, the rise of AI, and the wild "fake the fake girl" phenomenon taking over social media. Plus a skeptical look at government medical schemes, a massive Spotify shoutout as ENDURE and UNDENIABLE dominate global charts, and powerful final thoughts to wrap it all up. Why do the smallest disagreements with loved ones sometimes feel like the fiercest battles? Conflict in relationships often spirals into unproductive cycles of attack and defense, leaving us stuck, misunderstood, and further apart from the connection we crave. We rush to defend, strategize, and fix—yet rarely pause long enough to truly understand what matters beneath the surface. In this episode, listeners are invited to explore powerful strategies for breaking the cycle of reactivity and shifting attention toward curiosity, clarity, and genuine understanding. Through personal stories, actionable principles, and practical guidance, the conversation uncovers how paying attention to our underlying needs, emotions, interests, and habitual responses can foster a more constructive, compassionate, and collaborative approach to navigating conflict. By learning to differentiate between strategies and the needs they serve, listeners gain the tools to create meaningful change, deepen intimacy, and transform even the stickiest conflicts into opportunities for growth. Dana Caspersen is a conflict engagement specialist, best-selling author, TEDx speaker, and award-winning performing artist. She works with individuals, organizations, and communities worldwide as a trainer, coach, consultant, and dialogue designer. Drawing on the knowledge and insight gained from her experience as a mediator and conflict analyst and her 40-year career as a performing arts innovator, Dana empowers people and organizations to navigate complex and challenging situations. Conflict Is an Opportunity is her newest book.   Episode Highlights 04:22 How our bodies react and impact communication. 09:25 Moving from attack-defense to understanding in conflict. 13:22 The impact of unmet needs in relationship conflict. 14:22 Distinguishing needs, emotions, interests, and strategies. 18:16 Creating a supportive relationship culture for navigating conflict. 23:15 The importance of internal clarification before addressing issues. 24:50 Practicing curiosity and validation during difficult interactions. 28:35 Managing communication triggers and acknowledging emotions. 33:32 Intentional connection and embodied curiosity in conflict resolution. 36:07 Safety, attachment, and speaking from interests instead of vulnerabilities. 38:06 Conscious decision-making and the role of requests in conflict. 42:46 Applying conflict skills across all relationships and areas of life.   Your Checklist of Actions to Take Before addressing conflict, take a moment to breathe, relax, and bring your attention inward so you can respond rather than react. Pay attention to your body's stress signals—like a tight neck or jaw—and consciously shift to a more open, relaxed posture to support curiosity and connection. Redirect your attention away from attack and defense; instead, get genuinely curious about what your partner is feeling and what matters to them. Start conversations by acknowledging your partner's feelings and concerns to disarm defensiveness and open up constructive dialogue. Recognize that requests or strategies (like asking your partner to be home by 8) often mask deeper needs (such as intimacy or security), and talk about those underlying needs instead. Approach your partner with open-ended requests rather than demands, creating space for true dialogue and collaboration. Use your emotions as a clue to uncover your real needs and interests, then express those clearly and kindly to your partner. Expect that conflict will arise and discuss with your partner how you'll address it—having a shared mindset helps you get back on track when things get heated.   Mentioned Conflict Is an Opportunity (*Amazon Affiliate link) (book) Changing the Conversation: The 17 Principles of Conflict Resolution (*Amazon Affiliate link) (book) Conflict is a place of possibility (TedX Talks) (YouTube link) (video) Your Body Language May Shape Who You Are (TED) (YouTube link) (video) Gottman Institute Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) (*Psychology Today) (link) 12 Relationship Principles to Strengthen Your Love (free guide)   Connect with Dana Caspersen Website: danacaspersen.com Facebook: facebook.com/DanaCaspersen Instagram: instagram.com/dcaspersen LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/dana-caspersen

For decades, seminaries have promoted the ideal—full-time, on-campus study in a traditional academic setting. But for most adults pursuing ministry training, that ideal simply isn't practical. New research reveals a clear tension between what people would love to do and what they can realistically manage. Theological education thrives when schools position themselves as a bridge between the ideal and the practical, maintaining depth and quality while removing unnecessary barriers. Sam interviews Dr. Andy Miller, from Wesley Biblical Seminary, about four key points shaping the future of seminary enrollment. It is a baseline, a snapshot of where you are right now, so you can pay attention to trends over time instead of obsessing over a single reading.I share how I look at my own data, from steps and workouts to sleep and blood pressure, including moments where the numbers clearly miss the mark. The goal is not one hundred percent accuracy, the goal is consistent action. When you show up and are roughly sixty to seventy percent on target most of the time, you will get better long term results than chasing perfection, burning out, falling off, and restarting over and over.If you are someone who fixates on calories, macros, or daily stats, this conversation is a reminder to zoom out, use the information as a tool, and keep doing the best you can daily or almost daily. The question we ask and answer in this episode is “what does success look like” on a college campus? Some may think that success is getting a 4.0 GPA or landing the “right” job when you graduate…but there's more…much more to God's design for your student. Listen and learn in this great final conversation with Parker and Abbi.

Most people spend their entire life chasing the wrong thing and they don't realize it until something in them breaks. I know, because that was me. For years I obsessed over the what of my life — the achievements, the next move, the next milestone and ignored the far more important question: Who am I becoming? And it cost me more than I expected. In this episode, I share the moment I realized success had taken more from me than it gave, the move to Nashville that helped rebuild me, and the conversations that reframed what truly matters in this decade of becoming. If you feel lost, pressured to “figure it out,” or like you're running faster but feeling emptier — this one's for you. I'm building a deeper space for weekly essays, reflection, and real community around the journey of becoming. Sign up here: https://darinstarks.substack.com Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome! and Thank you for listening.  Move it or loose it for sure but how should be move and how often.  I made some observations at this year's Turkey trot that I think you might find helpful.  Vitamin D is not just about bones but your immune system, your heart, and many other things.  The sun is the best source because there are so many other mechanisms in the body fueled by the sun's photons.  However, getting adequate vitamin D is a must.  What about DHA.  Can we just rely on alpha linolenic acid from plants?   The question becomes live or thrive?  I believe we can do better with excellent DHA levels and I will discuss this during the podcast.  Email me: jami@doctordulaney.com Website to join my practice/ become a newsletter subscriber: doctordulaney.com Ebook: doctordulaney.com/.powerful-plates-ebook/?mc_cid=cc24587ac Cookbook: amzn.to/4onHVe4 Water distillers: mypurewater.com?sld-jdulaney. discount code: cleanwaterforsophie https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22570739/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK221706/ The Science of Running: Steve Magness https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/JAHA.112.000030https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40465176/

In this milestone 101st episode of Making a Living with Maggie, we're taking an honest look at the state of work today — and what it truly means to thrive, not just survive. So many people are feeling stretched thin, questioning their direction, and struggling with mounting workplace pressures. Burnout rates are higher than ever — a statistic my guest shares that may surprise you — and it's clear that the old "work harder, push through" mindset just isn't working anymore. That's why I'm thrilled to introduce my newest offering, Biofield Tuning, a powerful wellness modality designed to support clarity, balance, and emotional reset — something so many professionals desperately need right now. Joining me to explore this shift is Mark Reinisch, author of The Wellness Ethic. Mark challenges the traditional "work ethic" narrative and invites us to reimagine success by prioritizing well-being, energy, and sustainability. His message aligns perfectly with this month's Career Tip: opening your mind to what's possible — especially at a time when people are seeking more meaning, healthier boundaries, and a better way forward. Whether you're dealing with burnout, reevaluating your career path, or simply craving more alignment in your life and work, this episode offers insight, validation, and tools to help you navigate what comes next. Tune in — and take the next step toward making a living and making a life you love.

For nearly a century, GDP has been the world's go-to measure of economic success—but what if it's been telling us the wrong story? It treats cigarette sales and cancer treatments as equally “good” for the economy, while caring for your kids, volunteering, or creating art don't count at all. This week, economist Diane Coyle joins Nick and Goldy to discuss her new book, The Measure of Progress, and explain why GDP increasingly fails to capture the reality of modern economies—and how we can measure real progress instead. Diane Coyle is the Bennett Professor of Public Policy at the University of Cambridge. Why the Epstein Files Won't Change Anything — And What Really Matters | Karel Cast 25-150 The Epstein files are out again, and everyone is acting like this will finally be the moment—THE document drop that destroys Trump, exposes celebrities, or rewrites political reality. But let's be honest: none of this will change a thing. We already know what we're going to learn. It won't be the bombshell MAGA fears, and it won't be the partisan hit Democrats dream of. There are no accusers naming Trump, no pending trials, and no new revelations that will suddenly flip public opinion. And meanwhile, Washington only reacts to sex scandals—despite Trump's actual, documented crimes. A treasonous insurrection. Circumventing Congress to levy taxes. Openly threatening journalists. Violations of the First Amendment. A convicted felon running for president. But America only wakes up when there's a salacious angle. So why does a sex scandal get more attention than an attack on democracy? Let's talk about what these files truly mean…and what they absolutely do not. In this episode of the HAYVN Hubcast, Nancy sits down with seasoned executive recruiter Darcy Ahl, who shares her winding career path—from writing romance-novel blurbs to working in brand management and advertising, and ultimately building a 20-year career in executive search where she is currently partner at Ahl, Berrien & Partners.  Darcy offers grounded insights on what has changed (and what has not) in recruiting, the continued importance of EQ (Emotional Intelligence), and how relationships fuel her national cross-industry success. Key Takeaways Relationships drive business: Darcy works across industries thanks to decades-long relationships, referrals, and her personalized, high-touch approach. The role of technology: Tools and platforms have changed dramatically, but Darcy cautions against mass-posting jobs—most hires still come from curated networks, not hundreds of irrelevant applicants. Current challenges in mission-driven industries: Across many impact-oriented sectors, raising capital has become more challenging — but the caliber of talent and conviction in these fields remains remarkably strong. The shifting workplace: Post-COVID dynamics continue to evolve; hybrid isn't guaranteed anymore, with many companies pushing back to the office—impacting retention, especially among women. Leadership priorities: Companies increasingly seek leaders with turnaround experience, strong communication, and the ability to guide organizations through rapid change. Future workforce predictions: Despite the rise of AI, Darcy believes humans—particularly middle and upper managers—will remain essential. "AI can write a great job description, but it can't tell me what makes someone tick." In a hiring landscape defined by constant change, Darcy's perspective is a refreshing reminder that while tools and trends will continue to evolve, the heart of executive search remains deeply human.  Her emphasis on empathy, relationships, and genuine curiosity underscores what truly drives successful placements and thriving careers. Whether you're a job seeker, a business leader, or simply navigating your next professional chapter, Darcy's insights offer both clarity and encouragement for the road ahead.
