#131 Two Ways to Read Your Bible This Year

Do you feel prompted to be in God's word more or in a different way this year? I have two ideas for you. The beginning of the year, for most of us, is a time to reflect on the past year and plan for the year to come. I have several categories I try to take inventory in. Areas like my marriage, parenting, health, friendships, money, and one is always spiritual growth. What am I going to do this year to grow in my relationship with Jesus?  One of my answers to that question is by being in God's Word. Opening my bible and reading it for myself has greatly deepened my faith. So as you plan for the year ahead, I want to offer two ways for you to open your bible, be in God's word, and grow in your relationship with Jesus this year.   A Bible Reading Plan A Word of the Year Word Study I've also invited a special guest to join us. My friend Megan Ericson – also a guest on episode 16 - joined me in 2023 and read the bible using this plan. She is here to share her experience. Megan is the CEO of The Yoga Abbey, an online Christian yoga community. She lives in the Columbus, Ohio, area with her husband and three teenage kids.     CONNECT WITH MEGAN Megan on IG | The Yoga Abbey on IG   CONNECT WITH GIRLS TALKING LIFE Get the GTL Newsletter | Instagram | Facebook

I'm not known for my love of social media, but Megan Ericson is. She is quite literally the one voice I listen to when I need or want to learn something about social media. She keeps it simple, easy, and judgment-free. And she is a JOY to talk to! Megan walked me through the Instagram world in 2021 when I was part of her Instagram challenge. In this conversation, she walks us through the good side of social media, how to be a light in a world of trolls, and how to work your kids through the online space. Social media is not going away, that is for sure. In its evolution over the last 20 years, we've heard everything from social media saves lives to social media has ruined the world. Maybe there's an in-between, and Megan can for sure teach us how to show up and be a positive light in the online space. Social media is often a dreaded piece of the author platform. There are so many different places to be and to post ... not to mention WHAT to post. Then there's the matter of how to handle social media while also writing books. Never fear! Authors can handle social media. You don't have to be everywhere or post a million times a day. Megan is a writer, podcaster and social media marketer based in Columbus, Ohio. A mom to three little ones, she is a chronic purger, keeper of a capsule wardrobe, and seeker of ways to simplify life. On the show today Megan and I discuss social media: the love hate relationship a lot of us have with it and how she navigates between her personal accounts and the accounts she manages for clients.  We talk about how Megan got into podcasting and why she chose the topic of minimalism.  She shares how freeing it felt the first time she paired down her closet to a small number of things that made her feel her best.  Next we chat about where to start if you’re ready to declutter (and where not to start) and how not to get overwhelmed.  Megan give us ideas about how to encourage our families to think about their things in a minimalist mindset too.  She also walks us through creating a capsule wardrobe and we talk about shifting your closet from winter to spring.  Later on, we talk about other ways to simplify your life, focusing on things like your schedule.  Megan tells us about her “season of quitting” where she and her husband went through all of their regularly scheduled activities and cut out lots of things that weren’t right for them in their season of life.  Megan says that minimalism is a journey, it’s not somewhere you arrive or something that will ever be complete.         Mentioned in this episode hope*writers hope*writers conference minimalist moms podcast Capsule Wardrobe Tidying Up with Marie Kondo   Megan’s Favorite 5 The Enneagram The Bible Binge The Clockmaker’s Daughter Day One App The Mom Capsule   Connect with Megan Instagram | Facebook | Website   Connect with Girls Talking Life Show Notes for this Episode | Instagram | Facebook

In this episode, Megan and I talk about how stillness can be difficult in the busy seasons. Between children and work and projects on their fixer upper, Megan approaches this topic of stillness with honesty. She doesn't have it figured out and neither do I. Does anybody, really? Since none of us are experts when it comes to being still, maybe we can all just learn together in this episode.

But, when is it too much? Michaela shares a story of a time she might have gone a tad overboard with the helicopter parenting.
