Miranda Winters is an indie songwriter and musician with deep roots in Chicago DIY. Her solo work is a sonic departure from the gritty post punk of her powerhouse project Melkbelly; Winters channels a folky mystical sound showcasing her giftedness as a meaningful songwriter. Dan and Britton have a cheeky gear conversation with singer/guitarist/songwriter Miranda Winters, solo artist and singer/guitarist of Chicago's Melkbelly. We talk in depth about recording last year's 'Xobeci, What Grows Here?' and get it about making demos with boom boxes.
Post-Trash Live returns for episode two. Careful to avoid the sophomore slump, hosts Nick Dooley and Dan Goldin discuss the idea of record label identities while sharing more of this year’s highlights. From “poptimism” to that one commercially acceptable noise rock band of the year, all is discussed together with new music from Tropical Fuck Storm, Irk, Mister Goblin, Miranda Winters, Renata Zeiguer, and LandownerIntro by Disco Doom
Apologies for not getting this one out on Monday everyone. It's been kinda sorta stressful trying to get into this new housing situation, and it threw off my editing flow. Appreciate you sticking around with us. This time around, Steve and I travel to the magical land of Xobeci, and ask Miranda Winters, "what grows here?" JK, but we talk about her album though. Also, Steve discusses volumes 9 & 10 of the Desert Sessions. It's neat. Join us. Thanks for listening! - Carl
Melkbelly—comprised of Miranda Winters (guitar and vocals), Bart Winters (also guitar, and Miranda’s husband), Liam Winters (a bassist and Bart’s brother), and James Wetzel (drums)—recently sat down with the Weekly's Erisa Apantaku in a cozy practice space in East Garfield Park. Amongst Christmas lights, a number of effects pedals, and jamming from adjacent practice rooms, Melkbelly’s members shared their feelings about their recent tours—headlining in Europe and supporting bigger names like Protomartyr and The Breeders—and provided a new meaning to the term yard sale. Songs heard during this interview were "Off The Lot," "Kid Kreative," and "Cawthra," all from Melkbelly's 2017 album NOTHING VALLEY. The bumper at the beginning of the segment featured SSW reporter Bridget Vaughn and the Chicago band Malafacha and was produced by Jed Lickerman. For more news, visit www.southsideweekly.com.
