The holidays can be a hectic time of the year and sometimes things happen outside of our control. So, in lieu of releasing a full episode, I will instead make the last episode of Almost Fiction Plus public, so you at least have something. A family event has taken place lately, one that is very serious, so I am putting things aside for a few weeks in order to help out as much as I can. I will try to get the season finale up as fast as I can, but for now family must come first. Thank you so much for your understanding. Peter Britton Tobin's decades-long trail of violence across Scotland and England reveals the chilling reality of a serial killer who never stopped moving. What if a great business was built like a handmade mixtape? A lovingly crafted experience that is as much a love letter from its founder as it is custom-tailored to its audience. Before Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams became a household name, Jeni Britton was a 22-year-old art school dropout scooping her ice cream creations at a farmers market in Ohio. She didn't have investors, connections, or a playbook. What she did have was a vision - not just for ice cream, but for connection.Jeni believed her bold ice cream could be a conduit for something bigger: a place where people feel seen, conversations happen naturally, and strangers become community. Over the next two decades, she bootstrapped her way from a small counter to a nationally recognized brand by doing everything the slow, hard, old-fashioned way — one customer, one flavor, and one act of service at a time. She refused shortcuts. She prioritized people. And she built her company like a handmade mixtape — crafted with intention, risk, rebellion, and love.In this conversation, Jeni explains what true entrepreneurship really is: not hype, not hyper-growth, and not chasing venture capital, but the courage to follow a vision long enough for it to start leading you. We talk about the creative process, the power of service, the lessons learned from young employees, the myth of “scalable ideas,” and how walking in the woods helped Jeni discover her next chapter - Floura.Jeni's story is a reminder that the best things in life - and in business - take time, heart, and a willingness to make something beautiful even when no one is watching. This is A Bit of Optimism.---------------------------This episode is brought to you by the Porsche USA Macan---------------------------Visit Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams: https://jenis.com/Check out Jeni's newest venture — Floura: https://www.floura.com/

We welcome Rev. Austin Britton to our pulpit this morning. We hear his message exhorting us not to be Pharisees who cling uncritically to tradition, but to draw the boundaries where our Lord draws the boundaries. We are encouraged to discern what is pleasing to the Lord as we conduct ourselves. Rev. Britton recalls that the fall of the Berlin Wall symbolized the end of a significant boundary, much like the vision Peter received in Acts 11. This vision, where God commanded Peter to eat unclean animals, challenged the longstanding Jewish distinction between Jews and Gentiles. Despite God's command, Peter hesitated, clinging to familiar boundary lines, which illustrates the difficulty of overcoming ingrained traditions and embracing a new understanding of God's people. The vision of the blanket in Acts 11 challenges Peter and the early church to embrace a diverse and inclusive community, welcoming sinners of all backgrounds. This vision has implications for the church today, urging us to recognize God's work in unexpected places and to avoid turning preferences into principles. We are called to discern God's leading, even when it challenges our comfort zones and established ways of doing church. The text emphasizes the need for unity within the church, challenging needless divisions between denominations. It highlights the unifying power of the gospel, which erases barriers and brings people together in Christ. Rev. Britton encourages believers to examine their own biases and seek God's guidance in embracing unity, as exemplified by the early church's response to Peter's vision. He will provide insight and, through the Spirit, bring renewal.

#669 How do you build a beloved, nationally-recognized ice cream brand from scratch — and then turn around and create a completely different company redefining dietary fiber in America? In this episode, host Kirsten Tyrrel sits down with Jeni Britton — founder of the iconic Jeni's Ice Creams and now founder of Floura — to talk about creativity, curiosity, and the emotional side of entrepreneurship. Jeni shares how she started with nothing but vision, passion, and a gelato machine from a local Italian market, how she bootstrapped her way from a farmer's market stand to 90 stores and 10,000 grocery doors, and why she believes emotion, intuition, and integrity are the true drivers of a lasting brand. From building a fellowship-style team to navigating growth, trust, and leadership, this conversation is packed with wisdom for founders who want to build something meaningful — and do it their own way! What we discuss with Jeni: + Starting Jeni's in a farmer's market + Vision born from scent and storytelling + Bootstrapping with no capital + Turning produce waste into fiber products + Launching Floura and “bridging the fiber gap” + Importance of emotion in business + Building a fellowship-style team + Trust and communication in leadership + Learning to step back as founder + Success driven by passion and curiosity Thank you, Jeni! We're so excited about this week's Coaches Corner interview with none other than Jordyn Wieber, now in her sixth season as head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks! Even with some key injuries last season, the Razorbacks still put together a strong run. Remember, they upset both LSU and Florida when those teams were ranked No. 2 in the nation! While the end of the season didn't go quite as planned — missing out on SEC Championships and not qualifying for NCAAs as a team — we think that's just going to light a fire under them heading into this year.Expect the Razorbacks to bring the heat in 2026. Between the talented returners, some big-name transfers, and an incredible freshman class — plus Joscelyn Roberson, who just brought home a World Championship bronze medal on vault — this Razorback squad is stacked and ready to make some noise.A huge shoutout to our friend Anthony for helping us out with this interview. Thank you to our monthly Patreon supporters: Lee B, Cookiemaster, Christa, Happy Girl, Erica S, Semflam, Amy C, Maria L, Becca S, Cathleen R, Faith, Kerry M, M, Derek H, Martin, Sharon B, Randee B, MSU, Kimberly G, Robert H, Lela M, Mara L, Jenna A, Alex M, Mama T, Kelsey, Lidia, Maria P, Alicia O, Cristina K, Bethany J, Diane J, Kentiemac, Marni S, Betny T, Emily C, Cathy D, Lisa T, Libby C, Thiago, Taryn M, Dana B, Jamie S, Chuck C, Je_GL, Kaitlin, Susan P, Mallory D, LFC_Hokie, Ella, Debbie, Kay, Diane J, Julie B,, Austin K, Jane, Sarah, Amy, Stephen S, Johanna T, Alison S, Kristina T, Abigail W, Becky, Ola S, Jennifer K, Kate M, Claudia, Erin L, Sarah A, Kennedy B, Thomas B, Kihika N, Beth C, Amy, Renee PM, Ryan V, Brandon H, Tyler, Hayley B, Ben S, Kate, Landon, Danielle, ALittleUnderRotated, Dana C, Grace, Pat G , Lexi G, Laura N, Kathy, Katie A, Ruby B,, Róisín, Becca, Megan J, Emily D, Britton, Ry Shep, Reyna G, William A, MB, Jackson G, Brittany A, Stella, Ulo F, Noah C, Melissa H, Alexis, William M, Trish, Susie, Leslie G, Catherine B, Karlin, Laura L, Katy S, J'nia G, Kathy M, Kathy S, Okcaro, Caroline P, JD B, Cookiecutter, Ailish D, Wil D, Caroline M, kcmojojojo, Sammy S, Fabio B, Kerry H, Ricardo A, Brandon, Leah D, Joe S, Margaret G, Molly, Marco B, ClemsonTigersFan & Lisa B!

In a world where every kindergartner has access to an iPad, does handwriting still matter?    The answer, according to handwriting expert Holly Britton, is yes – and it's not just a penmanship issue; it's a thinking issue. In this episode, Holly explains why the way we teach handwriting is critical for young learners.    We dive into why handwriting is such a powerful tool for cognitive development and why, without it, kids are missing out on vital brain connections. As more classrooms move toward digital devices, Holly makes the case that handwriting is still the key to unlocking deeper learning and success in all areas.   Get full show notes, transcript, and more information here: https://planningplaytime.com/113   Follow us on our socials: https://www.instagram.com/planningplaytime/ https://www.facebook.com/Planningplaytime/ https://www.pinterest.com/planningplaytim/

With CVD remaining the leading cause of mortality worldwide, this integrative review examines how mindfulness may impact key risk factors such as smoking, diet, physical activity, obesity, blood pressure, and diabetes regulation. The discussion also unpacks the plausible mechanisms—improved attention control, emotion regulation, and self-awareness—that could explain mindfulness's effects on heart health.
