How a Blogger Expanded Her Income Streams and Engaged Readers in a New Way As a blogger, do you feel like you’re on a hamster wheel? Do you need to continually feed the machine to keep your blog generating traffic and income? We continue our Blogger Breakthroughs series with Anita Joyce, who experienced the same problem with her Cedar Hill Farmhouse blog.   Anita was working non-stop on her blog. She didn’t even have time to go to the grocery store or relax with her family. But the income from her blog was tied to page views, so she needed a breakthrough. Anita shares what she did to diversify her income streams and engage her readers in a new way. She started a podcast that turns listeners into friends, and a store that provides relevant products and valuable content for her audience. Three Things That Could Be Limiting the Potential of Your Blog In today’s lesson, I will highlight 3 things that I see a lot of bloggers ignoring - or not paying enough attention to - that could be limiting the potential of their blog. In today’s lesson, I want to highlight three things that I see a lot of bloggers ignoring or at least not paying enough attention to. These are three things that by ignoring, you could be actually limiting the potential of your blog. It can be so difficult to know where to turn your attention to when it comes to blogging, what you should be focusing upon. Whilst we need to find out our own way through this, we need to work out our own priorities based upon our blog’s goals, these three things I think are very important when it comes to building your traffic and building an income from your blogs. Recently, I was on a panel at a conference and was asked by the moderator to name three things that most bloggers don’t pay enough attention to on their blogs, three things that could be limiting those bloggers in their blogging. The question was one that I really enjoyed pondering. Luckily, I was the second person to answer it so I did have a little bit of time to consider my response. In today’s episode, I wanna share the three things that I said. Each of these three things are not things that will kill your blog, not like if you ignored them, they’re not gonna kill your blog. I have three things that could be limiting the potential of your blog and how far your blog could rise. Now, I’m not going to guarantee you’re going to get hit that, but I want to break down how you might go about doing that. You can find today’s show notes at problogger.com/podcast/48. A few years ago, I was chatting with a blogging friend who was feeling completely overwhelmed with their goal of making a living from their blogging. Through the conversation, I asked him a whole series of questions, but one that started this conversation going was getting them to identify how much they actually wanted to make from blogging. They had this goal that they wanted to be full-time, but I really pushed them to try and come out with a figure, to actually work out what full-time meant for them. This is actually where I would encourage you to start with your goal of making a full-time living. What does it actually mean for you? For this particular blogger, they said that they wanted to make about US$30,000 a year. That was probably not what they ultimately wanted to make. They wanted to make more, but that was the point where they had in their mind that they would be able to quit their current work to focus fully upon blogging. For some of you, $30,000 a year sounds like way more than you’d need to be able to quit your job and go full-time. For others of you, it’s not enough. It doesn’t really matter what the amount is, but what I want to talk about today is actually starting with that figure and then try to work out what does it mean to be able to achieve that because for a lot of people, even with that figure in mind, still feel completely overwhelmed and doesn’t really help to have that figure, but it’s a great starting point. Here’s my advice for you. Firstly, if you’ve got your figure in mind, don’t give up your day job yet as a lot of people who do give up their job to start blogging. I’m not sure that’s the wisest move because it’s actually going to take you a while to get to whatever point you have nominated in your mind, and there are no guarantees either. So,
