The Spiritual Risks of Prosperity with Jim Wise

    MoneyWise on Oneplace.com

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 15, 2026 24:57

In Genesis 11, the people of Babel said, “Let us make a name for ourselves.” That ancient temptation is still alive today. It can surface in seasons of success, when achievement becomes less about serving God and others and more about building a monument to ourselves. Success is not inherently wrong. Scripture commends diligence, wisdom, excellence, and faithful stewardship. But prosperity also brings spiritual danger. It can reveal what is already happening in the heart. That was the focus of today's conversation with Jim Wise, Senior Partner, Senior Private Wealth Advisor, and Director of Ministry Services for Blue Trust in Orlando. Jim is also a Certified Kingdom Advisor® (CKA®), bringing both financial expertise and a deep commitment to biblical stewardship. Jim recently gave a presentation to Kingdom Advisors titled, “My Practice: A Ministry to My Clients or a Monument to Myself?” While the message was directed to financial advisors, the question applies to all of us. Are we using what God has entrusted to us for His glory, or are we quietly building a name for ourselves? The Warning of Saul Jim's message grew out of his study of King Saul. Early in Saul's life, we see humility and dependence on God. He did not begin as a man obsessed with power or reputation. But as he experienced success as king, something changed. What began as humility slowly gave way to pride, arrogance, and self-protection. Eventually, Scripture tells us that Saul went to Carmel and “set up a monument for himself” (1 Samuel 15:12). That image stayed with Jim. Saul's story is not merely an ancient warning about a fallen king. It is a mirror for anyone who has experienced influence, achievement, wealth, or vocational success. Success often does not create pride as much as it exposes it. Jeremiah 17:9 reminds us, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” Prosperity has a way of bringing hidden desires to the surface. When Pride Replaces Humility Many people begin their careers with a deep sense of dependence on the Lord. They pray for guidance, wisdom, provision, and open doors. But over time, success can distort our vision. We may come to believe that the results are mainly due to our talent, intelligence, discipline, or strategy. Jim described this as “believing our own press clippings.” In a culture that celebrates wealth, platform, and achievement, even a small measure of success can bring attention and praise. That attention is spiritually dangerous if it leads us to forget the Source of all we have. Deuteronomy 8:18 says, “You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth.” Everything we have comes from God and belongs to God. Our abilities, opportunities, influence, and resources are entrusted to us. They are not ours to use however we please. Choosing an Advisor: Character Matters This conversation also has practical implications for those choosing a financial advisor. Credentials, experience, and technical knowledge matter. But according to Jim, character matters even more. A highly competent advisor who lacks character may not lead to the kind of relationship or results a client needs. For Christians, it is especially important to find someone who shares a biblical worldview and understands generosity, stewardship, and accountability before God. A faithful advisor does not merely ask, “What can we accumulate?” but “What has God entrusted to you, and how can it be used wisely for His purposes?” That kind of counsel requires more than financial knowledge. It requires wisdom, humility, and a heart submitted to the Lord. Asking the Right Question: Why? Success itself is not the issue. The deeper question is why. Why has God entrusted this platform, business, income, influence, or opportunity to me? What are His purposes for it? What does faithfulness look like in this season? Jim emphasized that successful Christians should not feel guilty for working hard or pursuing excellence. In fact, when resources are stewarded for the kingdom of God, success can become a powerful means of blessing others and advancing the gospel. But we must continually return to the Owner and ask, “What do You want me to do with what You have entrusted to me?” Without that question, success can easily turn inward. Goals become centered on personal achievement, business growth, accumulation, comfort, or reputation, while generosity and kingdom purpose become afterthoughts. When Ambition Replaces Kingdom Purpose One warning sign is when selfish ambition begins to replace kingdom purpose. That may show up in the goals we set. We may have detailed plans for growth, income, retirement, lifestyle, or advancement, but no meaningful goals for generosity, discipleship, service, or eternal impact. That imbalance reveals something important. Our goals often show what we treasure. The issue is not whether we are successful. The issue is whether we are surrendering our success to God. Are we asking how our resources can serve His kingdom, or are we simply trying to secure our own comfort and reputation? Naming the Danger Honestly Words like materialism and idolatry can sound strong, but Jim believes we need to name these dangers honestly. We cannot repent of what we refuse to confront. If someone who loves us sees us drifting toward pride, selfish ambition, or materialism, it is an act of love for them to speak the truth. That kind of accountability is not judgmental when it is rooted in concern for our souls and desire for God's glory. The human heart is remarkably skilled at turning good gifts into ultimate things. That is why we need Scripture, prayer, community, and wise counsel to help us see clearly. Success as a Platform for God's Glory The goal is not to reject success. The goal is to receive it rightly. Every opportunity, every dollar, every relationship, and every platform is entrusted by God. The question is whether we will use those gifts to make a name for ourselves or to make much of Him. The people of Babel wanted to build upward for their own glory. Saul built a monument to himself. But followers of Christ are called to a different path. Real success is not ultimately measured by what we gain, but by who we are becoming in Christ. So as God entrusts us with work, wealth, influence, or opportunity, we should keep asking: Is this becoming a ministry to others, or a monument to myself? That question may be uncomfortable, but it is also a gift. It can help us remember that all we have is from God, belongs to God, and is meant to be used for His glory. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions: A couple of years ago, my wife and I enrolled in a debt relief program after medical issues and job loss led us to rely heavily on credit cards. I didn't fully understand that the company would let accounts go to collections before negotiating settlements, and now I'm seeing the downsides—including tax consequences from forgiven debt. Today, my wife was served with papers for one account that hasn't been settled. Do we have to stay in the debt relief program, or can we get out and switch to credit counseling? And what should we know now that a lawsuit is involved? My mother is almost 80 and still has a mortgage. Should I pay it off and put the house in my name in case she needs nursing home care, or should I leave everything as it is and handle it through her estate when she passes? I'm also the executor of her will and want to know what steps, if any, I should take now. Brent Schutte, chief investment officer at Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Co., says that the current economic cycle is in "overtime," a point where the stock market gets narrow. As the cycle ends, however, he expects the market to broaden out, which could carry it higher, just driven by small-cap stocks and other industries. As a result, he says investors should stick to their plans and not let their portfolios get too focused on what has worked lately. "This is where, if you are an individual investor, your job is to get from Point A to Point B to Point C in your life. The way that you do that is that you don't concentrate, which can win magnificently and lose magnificently, and if you lose magnificently, you're not going to get back on track." In the "Talking Technicals" interview, Thomas Samuelson, chief investment officer at Vineyard Global Advisors, says the technical underpinnings of the market are solid — though he also took notice of the narrow bands of strength — and sufficient to avoid deterioration into a bear market while the market focuses on the earnings story. "We're pushing $400 a share for earnings next year for the [Standard & Poor's] 500," Samuelson said. "If it trades at 23 times (earnings), you could get up to 9,000. That's 24% higher from here." John Cole Scott, president of CEF Advisors, says that index discounts in municipal bonds and taxable bonds are wide compared to their three-year history, which is creating good opportunities for investors to find closed-end funds trading at wide discounts but supported by improving fundamentals. Scott, who also is chairman of the Active Investment Company Alliance, uses his firm's "trifecta analysis" to select four funds as exemplars of the opportunities available to income investors now.

“It was always in a weird way, I wouldn’t say triggering, but I just didn’t like it. And then by the end, I really did love it. It just felt really heartwarming when different people in the Process, even still, since we all – a lot of us still keep in touch, and they call me Bubba, it makes me smile.” – Julie Shapiro Hoffman grad, Julie Shapiro, found herself at a crossroads. She knew what she wanted to change in herself. Yet, she also felt unable to make that change. There’s change we can make through our choices, and then there’s change that must come from deeper within. The Hoffman Process works in this deeper place within us through the Cycle of Transformation. This is the place where the “magic” of the Process happens. Julie’s story is one of courage, desire, and willingness. She came to the Process with profound scepticism. But she also came with a willingness to fully enter into the Process to allow change to happen within her, even though she couldn’t understand how it would happen. In moments of silence in nature, time with a Buddha, and places where Julie knew she had to go deeper, the “magic” of transformation happened. She gained new insights and saw a deeply rooted pattern. In one moment that allowed her Process to go deeper, Julie realized she had to use the childhood nickname her father had given her on her name tag rather than her given name. She knew that, even though her nickname, Bubba, triggered her, using it would be important. And it turned out to be. As Julie shares, using Bubba “was the real way to connect with my childhood, connect with my parent relationship, work through some things that I may not have had the opportunity to do before he died, and just really connect with him.“ Connecting with her childhood unlocked something deeper within. Hearing fellow students call her Bubba began to bring her joy. Beautiful, ineffable things can happen when you surrender to the Process, as Julie did. We hope you enjoy this heartfelt conversation with Julie and Sadie. Listen on Apple Podcasts More about Julie Shapiro: Have you ever known exactly what you wanted to change about yourself — but felt unable actually to make the change? It was at that crossroads that Julie Shapiro signed up for the Hoffman Process. At 42, she felt that certain milestones, like marriage and starting a family, were out of reach. A lifelong New Yorker, she'd recently moved to Los Angeles and unexpectedly lost her dad within weeks of moving. A Stanford graduate, she set impossibly high standards for herself, both personally and professionally. Little Bubba Julie had spent years in therapy, taken meditation courses, and tried other modalities to reduce anxiety. She was self-aware and could name her patterns. But awareness alone wasn't moving the needle to evoke the changes she wanted. The Hoffman Process was not something she ever would have considered. She expected it to be “woo woo” and couldn't imagine that a one-week retreat had any long-term benefits. But despite her skepticism, she attended the Process in 2024, hoping it might unlock something within her. The Process did just that. Through the Cycle of Transformation, Julie was able to move beyond her lawyer-trained intellect and tap into her emotional and spiritual selves. She discovered a deeply rooted pattern of living in survival mode — pushing through things that made her unhappy just to achieve the end goal. As the Process week unfolded, she began to believe that a spirit-led life, focused on “being” rather than “having,” was not only possible, but available to her. One year later, in 2025, Julie returned for the Q2 graduate program to deepen her Hoffman toolkit. She is actively reorienting her life around who and what truly light her up — and redefining achievement along the way, from her tangible accomplishments to the person she is becoming. Follow Julie on Instagram. As mentioned in this episode: Hoffman’s Q2 is a three-day program for Process graduates. Early-onset Alzheimers Drew Horning: Julie’s Hoffman teacher and one of the Hoffman Podcast hosts. The Crossword Hoffman Terminology and Tools: Awareness Hell: In the Hoffman Process, when we're in awareness hell, we know we are aware of our patterns and the things we do that we wish we didn't, but we are still unable to change. We understand, but feel stuck in this place of hell, even though our awareness keeps expanding.  To get out of awareness hell, our work to grow and transform must include three additional steps for change to take place. These three steps are Expression, Compassion, and New Ways of Being. All four make up the Cycle of Transformation. The Cycle of Transformation: The four steps in the cycle are Awareness, Expression, Compassion, and New Ways of Being. All four make up the Cycle of Transformation.               Be-Do-Have vs. Do-Have-Be: The life we long for comes from Be-Do-Have; the life we are taught we should strive for comes from Do-Have-Be. Recycling/pre-cycling is a tool and a practice for receiving wisdom from your own Spiritual Self, which gives you qualities that lead you directly to new behavior, authenticity, and the freedom to respond rather than react to patterns. You replace a pattern with an authentic quality of your Spiritual Self and embody that quality. You create new behavior from this embodiment. When recycling, you use a scene from your recent past when you acted out the pattern. In pre-cycling, you use an imagined scene when you act out the pattern at some point in the future. Your Spiritual Self ultimately guides you on how to BE so that you DO what supports your being and HAVE what you need to support your living. Read about Dark Side work in the Hoffman Q2.

That gap is widening. In this episode, Britt Stockert, Fundraiser Coach at Donorbox, unpacks what it is, where it shows up in daily development work, and why it keeps getting misdiagnosed as a performance problem when it's actually a structural one.The numbers are stark. The Nonprofit Finance Fund found that 85% of nonprofits expect service demand to keep rising, while 36% ended last year at a deficit, the highest in a decade. First-year donor retention sits around 20%. Sector technology budgets allocate 54% to hardware and 1% to training. And nearly a quarter of nonprofit workers can't afford basic living expenses.Britt makes the case that donor attrition, burnout, and fundraiser turnover are not separate problems. They share the same root cause, and it belongs in the budget conversation, not the performance review. What You'll LearnWhat the nonprofit fundraising capacity gap actually isWhere it shows up in real development work, and what it costsWhy burnout and donor loss are structural problems, not individual onesWhat the nonprofit starvation cycle is and why it mattersWhat fundraisers, EDs, and board members can each do differently to break the cycleThe Core InsightThe gap is almost always invisible, which is exactly what makes it so hard to fix. When a major gifts portfolio goes cold, it gets labeled a performance issue. When a fundraiser burns out and leaves, leadership calls it a pipeline problem. The structural cause stays hidden, and hidden problems don't get fixed. The first move is naming it honestly, in budget conversations, in board meetings, before you pick up a new framework or invest in a new tool. What is it actually costing you to leave it the way it is?Chapters00:00 The Fundraising Capacity Gap01:34 Why Retention Is Slipping03:06 Capacity Problems Disguised as Performance Problems06:03 The Nonprofit Starvation Cycle09:34 How to Break the CycleResources and LinksBook a free one-hour strategy session with Britt hereNonprofit Finance Fund Survey DataFundraising Effectiveness ProjectBridgespan Group ResearchUrban Institute Nonprofit ResearchStanford Social Innovation Review: The Nonprofit Starvation CycleAbout the HostBritt Stockert is a Fundraiser Coach at Donorbox with more than 20 years in the public sector. One thing I see in so many of us highly sensitive folk is that we're experts at consistently overestimating our capacity. When we overestimate capacity, the outcome is written long before we land there: we fall in a heap; exhausted and burnt out. Why oh why do we repeat this cycle? Well ... for one, the world kind of demands it. So what do we do if we want OUT of that cycle and to finally honour the truth of our capacity? Join me for this episode of SelfKind - a podcast for highly sensitive people - where I'm exploring this question (and, no, I don't have all the answers! But I have plenty of questions and food for thought!).About your host, Erica WebbErica Webb is a registered counsellor, somatic exercise coach, yoga teacher and highly sensitive person (also diagnosed AuDHD). A home invasion led to a murder charge that sent him to Arizona's prison system for 12 years. In this episode of Locked In with Ian Bick, Rhaja opens up about surviving some of Arizona's most violent prisons — the gangs the politics and the daily violence that defines life behind bars. In this episode of The Hormone Genius Podcast, we sit down with Olivia Chasteen, Director of SymptoPro Fertility Education, to have an honest and empowering conversation about women's health, fertility awareness, and the gap between conventional care and true root-cause solutions. So many women are handed quick fixes, band-aid solutions that often mask symptoms rather than address what's really going on. Hormonal contraception is frequently prescribed as a way to “regulate” cycles, yet it doesn't actually restore or regulate the body's natural rhythms, and it comes with real side effects that can impact nearly every system in a woman's body. Olivia shares how the SymptoPro method, a sympto-thermal approach to Natural Family Planning (NFP), offers a science-based, effective alternative that works with a woman's body instead of against it. We explore the history and effectiveness of SymptoPro, including how it has helped couples confidently avoid pregnancy when used correctly, while also serving as a powerful tool for those trying to conceive. But this conversation goes far beyond family planning. Cycle tracking is a window into a woman's overall health. Whether married, single, trying to conceive, or simply wanting to understand her body better, charting can reveal valuable insights from hormonal imbalances to thyroid concerns, luteal phase defects, and more. Olivia explains how even women with no immediate fertility goals can benefit deeply from learning to read the signs their bodies are giving them each day. We also dive into the reality that charting isn't always straightforward—and that's okay. If your charts feel confusing or inconsistent, it doesn't mean your body is broken. It means there's more to uncover. Olivia walks through practical troubleshooting strategies and emphasizes the importance of individualized support and education. In a culture that often paints the female body as inconvenient or flawed, true healing begins when we learn to understand and respect what our bodies are communicating. There is real support. There are real answers. And there is real beauty in understanding your fertility. What the SymptoPro method is and how long it's been helping women and couples How effective SymptoPro is for avoiding pregnancy when used correctly How it supports couples trying to conceive Why cycle tracking is a powerful health tool for all women, not just those planning families What your fertility chart can reveal about your overall health Practical tips for when charting feels confusing or overwhelming Why one method may not fit everyone, and how to find the right approach for you The deeper issue with “quick fix” solutions in women's healthcare Olivia also shares her work as a Certified Lactation Consultant, wellness professional, and instructor serving families in rural Wisconsin where access to fertility education and medical support can be limited, yet deeply needed. When a Sibling Is the Problem: Growing Up in Abuse, Surviving Trauma, and Breaking the Cycle. From Childhood Abuse to Adult Freedom: Nathaniel Allenby's Extraordinary Journey. When people think about childhood abuse, they often imagine abusive parents or neglectful caregivers. What many don't realize is that one of the most common forms of family violence comes from an unexpected source: a sibling. The Podcast is available for free on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website, also on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, iHeartradio and most major podcast platforms. #Free #Podcast #Radio For Nathaniel Allenby, the abuse began at home and followed him throughout much of his life. What started as mental, physical, and emotional abuse from a sibling eventually spilled over into his experiences at school and continued to impact him well into adulthood. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast social media like their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other social media platforms. Today, Allenby is an author, entrepreneur, adventurer, and entertainer. But his journey to becoming an independent and free adult was anything but easy. Supporting articles about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium , Blogspot and Linkedin. On a recent episode of the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast, Allenby shared his remarkable story of survival, healing, and personal transformation. When a Sibling Is the Problem: Growing Up in Abuse, Surviving Trauma, and Breaking the Cycle. The Hidden Reality of Sibling Abuse "Sibling abuse completely changed my life," Allenby explained. Many families dismiss aggressive behavior between brothers and sisters as normal childhood rivalry. However, experts increasingly recognize that sibling abuse is a serious issue that can have lifelong consequences. The show is inspiring audiences through the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Apple, Spotify, iHeartradio and and many Podcast platforms. Research suggests sibling abuse is one of the most common forms of family violence in the United States, affecting millions of children every year. Unlike ordinary disagreements, abuse involves a significant imbalance of power and repeated harmful behavior. Examples include: Physical violence such as hitting, kicking, or punching Psychological abuse including intimidation, humiliation, and threats Sexual coercion or unwanted sexual behavior Emotional manipulation designed to control another sibling Unfortunately, many victims suffer in silence because family members often view the behavior as simply "kids being kids." How Childhood Trauma Carries Into Adult Life The effects of sibling abuse rarely disappear when childhood ends. When a Sibling Is the Problem: Growing Up in Abuse, Surviving Trauma, and Breaking the Cycle. For Allenby, the emotional wounds followed him into school and eventually into adulthood. The episode is available across major platforms including their website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, with highlights shared across their Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn profiles. Mental health professionals have found strong links between childhood abuse and adult struggles with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, complex trauma, and relationship difficulties. "Growing up in abuse affects how you see yourself and how you see the world," Allenby said. Like many survivors, he found himself carrying emotional scars that shaped his decisions, confidence, and ability to trust others. Yet his story was far from over. Mugged in London at Age 22 At twenty-two years old, Allenby found himself facing another traumatic experience. While traveling in London, he was mugged and left in shock. For many people, such an event would reinforce fears and distrust already created by years of abuse. Instead, it became one more chapter in a larger story of resilience. Rather than allowing trauma to define him, Allenby began searching for a different path forward. Available for free on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website, also on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Youtube and most major Podcast networks. When a Sibling Is the Problem: Growing Up in Abuse, Surviving Trauma, and Breaking the Cycle. A Bicycle, a Friend, and a Life-Changing Opportunity Sometimes life changes because one person believes in you. Allenby's turning point came when his close friend Dan made an unusual offer. He offered Allenby a one-way ticket to Europe and promised him a bicycle upon arrival. What followed became the foundation for a journey that would transform his life. Together, the two friends traveled thousands of miles across Europe, often with little money, uncertain where they would sleep or find their next meal. "It wasn't just a trip," Allenby explained. "It became a journey of self-discovery." The Cycle of Kindness Those experiences eventually inspired Allenby's acclaimed book, The Cycle of Kindness. The book chronicles a ten-month adventure that covered approximately 7,500 miles through Europe, including Germany, the Pyrenees Mountains, and numerous remote locations. The Podcast is available for free on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website, also on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, iHeartradio and most major podcast platforms. When a Sibling Is the Problem: Growing Up in Abuse, Surviving Trauma, and Breaking the Cycle. Along the way, Allenby encountered incredible generosity from strangers. His story includes: Being robbed in London Dumpster diving for survival Sneaking into castles Participating in climate activism Enduring freezing temperatures while cycling across mountains Living off the grid and outside traditional consumer culture What began as an adventure became something much deeper. "The journey restored my faith in humanity," Allenby said. Using journal entries from the expedition, the book offers an intimate look at overcoming adversity while discovering kindness in unexpected places. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast continues bringing listeners real conversations from the front lines of crime, policing, trauma, survival, and healing. Breaking the Cycle The title The Cycle of Kindness carries special meaning. For someone who grew up surrounded by abuse, Allenby discovered that cycles do not have to continue forever. When a Sibling Is the Problem: Growing Up in Abuse, Surviving Trauma, and Breaking the Cycle. The cycle of violence, fear, and trauma can be broken. It can be replaced by compassion, resilience, and growth. His experiences demonstrate that even people who have endured significant childhood trauma can create fulfilling and meaningful adult lives. The bicycle journey became the beginning of something much larger. Over the next six years, Allenby would pedal more than 28,000 miles through ten countries and thirty states, continuing his quest for adventure, personal growth, and connection. More Than a Survivor Today, Nathaniel Allenby is known for much more than his past struggles. He is an entrepreneur, performer, adventurer, and one of the driving forces behind Cirque Quirk, a San Diego-based entertainment and adventure company. When a Sibling Is the Problem: Growing Up in Abuse, Surviving Trauma, and Breaking the Cycle. His story serves as a powerful reminder that trauma does not have to determine a person's future. Moving past the usual partisan talking points, the two discuss the future of the Republican party, the heavily debated utility of cryptocurrency, and the responsibility of the wealthy. Do you feel disconnected from your wife, even though you genuinely want to be close to her?For many men in pornography addiction recovery, one of the most painful parts of the journey is not only stopping porn. It is learning how to rebuild trust, emotional safety, and real connection in marriage. You may want to listen, love, repair, and show up well, but still feel like your wife does not trust you, does not see your efforts, or does not believe your intentions. You may try to explain yourself and end up sounding defensive. You may try to help and end up trying to fix her emotions. You may try to be honest and still feel like there is a wall between you.In this episode of No More Desire, I sit down with Tyler Patrick of Therapy Brothers to talk about the real reason many men feel disconnected from their wives, how avoidant men often marry anxious women, and how this anxious-avoidant marriage cycle can quietly destroy trust, intimacy, and emotional connection.Tyler is a marriage and family therapist, certified DBT skills trainer, and has specialized training in treating sexual addiction. He also shares from his own personal recovery story, including the pain of betrayal, secrecy, shame, and the process of becoming a more grounded, honest, emotionally present husband. We talk about why porn addiction and marriage problems are so deeply connected. Porn does not only damage sexual integrity. It damages emotional safety. When a man hides pornography use, lies, minimizes, or keeps secrets, his wife often begins to question everything: “Can I trust him? Is he who I thought he was? What else do I not know?” That rupture of safety is one of the deepest wounds in betrayal trauma. We also discuss why many men shut down, withdraw, get defensive, or disappear into work, screens, or isolation when their wife is upset. Often, this is not because they do not care. It is because shame, fear, and emotional overwhelm take over. The man feels like he is failing, so he protects himself instead of staying present.Tyler explains the anxious-avoidant relationship cycle in a clear and practical way. The anxious partner often moves closer, asks more questions, seeks reassurance, and tries to regain safety. The avoidant partner often pulls away, shuts down, or feels criticized. The more she pursues, the more he withdraws. The more he withdraws, the more unsafe she feels. This cycle can become exhausting for both people. But there is hope.In this conversation, we discuss practical tools for men who want to overcome pornography addiction and become trustworthy again. We talk about emotional regulation, shame resiliency, mindfulness, self-compassion, parts work, taking healthy timeouts without abandoning your wife, and learning how to respond with presence instead of defensiveness. We also talk about why cravings are often emotional signals. A porn craving is not always just about sexual desire. Sometimes it is connected to stress, shame, fear, disconnection, or even the vulnerability of feeling close to your wife. When a man learns to understand what the craving is trying to medicate, he can begin responding with wisdom instead of panic. This episode is for the man who wants to stop hiding. It is for the husband who wants to rebuild trust after porn addiction. It is for the man who wants to become emotionally present with his wife, stop shutting down during hard conversations, and create a recovery lifestyle rooted in truth, love, and masculine self-leadership.Porn addiction trains a man to escape. Recovery trains a man to stay.Stay truthful. Stay grounded. Stay present. Stay in the work.Check out more from Tyler Patrick and the Therapy Brothers at therapybrothers.org/no-more-desire, where you'll find additional resources created specifically for No More Desire listeners.Link to Blog Article for this EpisodeVisit No More Desire Tools for Recovery for recovery tools and training, including my free eBook, Workshop, The RAIL Method ™ and more to help you break free from porn.If you're tired of trying to quit porn on your own, the No More Desire Academy gives you a structured path to recovery through coaching, brotherhood, practical tools, and step-by-step training. I know we've talked about boundaries on this show before. But this conversation? It went somewhere I really wasn't expecting. My guest today is Alex Lianne Carter, a master certified neurocoach, educator, and children's author who burned out, rebuilt her life one small decision at a time, and eventually packed up her family and moved to Panama. When Alex reached out to me about coming on to talk about boundaries, I sat with it for a minute because the angle she brought was one I hadn't heard before, and I think you're going to feel it too.Because this episode is really about three things that are all connected: the busyness we can't shake, the boundaries we can't hold, and what our kids are quietly picking up from watching us do both. Alex walks us through the brain science behind why slowing down genuinely feels wrong, where these patterns actually come from, and what we can do about it before we hand the whole cycle to our kids. What You'll Learn:Why you can't hold a boundary no matter how many times you set it What your kids are absorbing right now just by watching how you move through your dayThe real reason slowing down feels dangerous to your nervous system even when you desperately want itThe very first step out of autopilot when you're so deep in it you don't even realize it's runningConnect With Alex:Free to Be Me (children's book): www.freetobemekid.comInstagram: www.instagram.com/alex.lianne.carterLinkedIn: ca.linkedin.com/in/alexliannecarter ________________________________

Are you tired of shouldering the weight of impossible standards and harsh self-judgment? This week on the podcast, Shannon Popkin returns for an honest conversation about judging—especially the way perfectionists measure themselves with a critical, merciless scoop. In this compassionate and insightful episode, you’ll hear:- Why “judge not” is more nuanced than you might think, and how the Bible calls us to both discernment and humility.- How the standards we use to judge ourselves often seep into our perception of others—even when we think we’re showing only ourselves the harshness. - The trap of perfectionism: when striving to be flawless turns into wounded pride and a subtle resistance to receiving grace.- The difference between external rule-keeping and the biblical invitation to “walk with God”—not just check every box.- How admitting our need for mercy—rather than clinging to “good girl” status—actually brings us closer to Jesus and frees us from the courtroom in our heads.- A vulnerable story of how Shannon realized she’d been harshly judging a friend’s motives, and the freedom that came with confession and restored relationship. What happens when kids see too much, too soon, too often? In this episode, Kristi explores what she calls the "Digital Trauma Cycle"...a pattern she has observed for years while working with families, schools, and students navigating life online.Kids go online looking for connection. Along the way, they encounter content that can be confusing, disturbing, sexualized, violent, or emotionally overwhelming. When no one helps them process what they're seeing, something concerning can happen: they become desensitized.Over time, experiences that once would have felt shocking begin to feel normal.Kristi shares why this matters, how it shapes future generations, and why parents, counselors, educators, and trusted adults play such an important role in interrupting the cycle. If you've ever wondered why protecting kids online feels so important or why "they'll figure it out" may no longer be enough...this conversation is for you.In this episode you'll learn:• What the Digital Trauma Cycle is• Why kids seek connection online in the first place• How repeated exposure leads to desensitization• Why today's digital world is fundamentally different from the one we grew up in• How parents can become the "intervening piece" that helps break the cyclewww.knbcommunications.com

Angel "Julito" Diaz grew up on Creston Avenue in the North Bronx — the youngest of six kids, watching his mother run the block before he ever touched a drug. By the time he was 12 he was selling crack after school. By the time he was a young man he was running his own operation — hundreds of pounds of their signature Mango Piña weed a week — eventually becoming the shot caller of the infamous Creston Avenue Crew whose takedown became one of the most notorious drug cases in Bronx history. In this episode of Locked In with Ian Bick, Julito tells the complete story — the story that Reggaeton star De La Ghetto portrayed on Netflix's El Ganador. Nicky Jam and Daddy Yankee were part of his Bronx operation before they were famous. He opens up about the betrayal from his own childhood friend who put out a murder contract on his life, the robbery case that sent him to state prison, and the federal case that gave him 17 years total. When 22 people around him cooperated with the government — Angel kept his mouth shut. He served 11 years and never snitched on anyone. _____________________________________________ #prisonlife #BronxStory #TrueCrime _____________________________________________ Thank You To CASH APP & RAYCON For Sponsoring This Episode: Cash App: Download Cash App Today: https://click.cash.app/ui6m/6pao71et #CashAppPod Cash App is a financial services platform, not a bank.
