Your failure is the most effective engine for your growth — and the most underutilized. In this week's episode, John reveals the five-step cycle that transforms every setback into your next leap forward as a leader. After his lesson, Mark Cole and Chris Goede dive into real-world strategies to help you put this growth cycle into action and boost your team's innovation. Key takeaways: True innovation thrives when leaders create a culture where failing is seen as a crucial part of learning and improving. The sequence of testing, failing, learning, improving, and re-entering ensures that mistakes become stepping stones, not stumbling blocks. Sustainable growth comes from asking, "What did I learn?" after every setback and quickly applying those lessons to move forward stronger than before. Our BONUS resource for this episode is the Five-Step Cycle That Turns Failure into Your Fastest Path to Growth Worksheet, which includes fill-in-the-blank notes from John's teaching. Today, I am delighted to welcome Emily Sadri, a board-certified women's health nurse practitioner and certified nurse-midwife, also trained in functional medicine. Emily is the founder of Aurelia Health, a private women's health practice in the Van Aken district of Shaker Heights, Ohio, offering telehealth services specializing in hormone therapy and weight-loss support for women ages 35 to 55. As a leading hormone expert, she has built her practice around a hormones-first approach. In today's conversation, Emily explains the differences between being a nurse practitioner and a midwife, and we discuss nurse practitioner training, scope of practice, professional support, anticipatory guidance, and the limitations of conventional midlife care. Emily also shares why she prioritizes precision-oriented, personalized care, the value of Mira monitoring for precision hormone replacement therapy management in perimenopause, key hormonal changes she sees in early perimenopause, the impact of cyclic, static, and physiologic dosing of HRT, the influence of progestin IUDs, trends in healthcare, and less common reasons why women in midlife tend to become weight loss resistant. Stay tuned for an insightful conversation on hormones, precision care, and supporting women through perimenopause and midlife. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN: How women's health nurse practitioner training differs from midwifery, and how midwifery shaped Emily's professional philosophy and ethics Why women need to take ownership of their health throughout every life stage The importance of moving beyond treating symptoms by using comprehensive lab work to identify broader hormonal and metabolic patterns The value of using Mira, an at-home hormone monitoring system, to follow hormone patterns throughout an entire menstrual cycle, rather than relying on isolated laboratory measurements Why Emily believes in looking at hormone patterns rather than progesterone decline or isolated estrogen levels when making hormone replacement therapy decisions How static, cyclic, and physiologic HRT differ, and why Emily believes physiologic dosing deserves greater consideration. Why treating hormones in isolation often fails to address the bigger picture, particularly during perimenopause The importance of women being fully informed when considering hormonal birth control and intrauterine devices Factors beyond sarcopenia, nutrition, sleep, and stress that could contribute to weight loss resistance Bio: Emily Sadri Emily Sadri is a Board Certified Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, and hormone expert who founded Aurelia Health, a modern concierge telehealth company that serves women navigating perimenopause and menopause. Emily's areas of expertise include metabolic health, precision hormone care, and longevity medicine. You overate last night, so today you tell yourself you'll be "extra careful." A light salad. Maybe skip lunch. It sounds smart. It sounds like the responsible thing to do. But that little plan to make up for it? It sets up your next overeating episode. In this episode I break down the binge-restrict cycle — the hidden loop that keeps almost everyone stuck. I'll show you why trying to stop yourself right before you eat almost never works, why beating yourself up after only makes it worse, and the easiest place to step out of the cycle (it's probably not where you think). If you've been working so hard and still feel out of control around food, this one's for you.
Welcome to the Win Cycle Podcast! On this episode, IRONMAN Master Coach Matt Dixon and Jeff Troeltsch discuss mental performance in endurance sports, focusing on perfectionism and race anxiety. Troeltsch emphasizes the importance of accepting one's current state while striving for improvement, rather than being perpetually dissatisfied. He highlights the need to manage cognitive distortions and the impact of data on athletes' mindsets. Troeltsch also stresses the significance of breathing techniques and maintaining a balanced perspective on performance. Additionally, they touch on the concept of identity, advising athletes to see themselves as individuals rather than as solely defined by their sports achievements. Laura Federico is a certified sex therapist. Morgan Miller is a certified professional midwife who runs a birth center in Maine. They've been friends since their early twenties and recently co-authored "The Cycle Book," a guide and tracking tool built to teach people about their hormones before they're in crisis. They join Em and Cass to talk about why most of us only learn about our cycles when something is already wrong, and what changes when you actually understand what your body is doing. From there, they get into the trap of cycle-syncing programs (the seed cycling, the diets, the "stay in bed during your luteal phase" advice), why ovulation deserves way more attention than it gets, the cervical fluid biomarker nobody was taught about in middle school, and why the natural-versus-unnatural binary is a red flag every time. They explain why they're fans of tracking your cycle even on hormonal birth control, what they actually think of Oura Rings, and the stat about period tracking apps that should be on every billboard (they're 21% accurate at predicting ovulation, and your data is being bought and sold). Have you ever eaten past the point of fullness and immediately thought, “What is wrong with me?” Maybe you told yourself you had no self-control. Maybe you promised you would start over on Monday. Maybe you felt guilty, frustrated, or ashamed, then tried to fix it with another plan, another set of rules, or another attempt to “be good.” In this episode, we're talking about the restrict binge cycle, and why the story you've been told about it may be completely wrong. Because what if your eating patterns are not a sign that you need more willpower or self-control? What if your body is responding exactly the way it was designed to respond? And what if the very thing you keep turning to for control is the thing keeping you stuck? We're breaking down why food restriction can lead to intense cravings, overeating, and shame, and why willpower is not the answer most people think it is. We also talk about the sneaky ways restriction can show up, even when you are not technically “on a diet.” You'll learn: What the restrict binge cycle is and why so many people get stuck in it Why overeating is not always a lack of self-control How physical restriction and mental restriction can both affect your relationship with food How hunger hormones shift when your body feels deprived, and why willpower was never going to win that fight Why certain foods can feel more tempting when you label them as “bad” or off-limits Why the guilt and shame after a binge keep the binge cycle alive long after the eating stops How diet culture profits from making you believe you are the problem Why self-compassion is such an important part of healing your relationship with food This conversation is for anyone who has ever felt like they cannot trust themselves around food. We hope it helps you see that your body is not the enemy, and that there may be a much kinder, more freeing way forward. Let's rebrand wellness together! Elizabeth, Tara & Maria Connect with us! Most Americans think they live in a free market. But if that's true, why do we keep ending up with fewer airlines, fewer hospitals, fewer pharmacies, fewer banks, fewer food processors, and fewer choices? In this episode of Common Sense with Chad Law, we take a hard look at the forgotten conservative history of antitrust, trustbusting, and competition. From Theodore Roosevelt and Standard Oil to Reagan and AT&T, we explore why conservatives once saw concentrated corporate power as a threat—and why that conversation disappeared. We'll break down how government intervention, regulation, consolidation, lobbying, and market concentration created an economy where giant corporations increasingly dominate healthcare, technology, food, airlines, banking, and communications. This isn't an argument against capitalism. It's an argument for competition.Because capitalism isn't giant corporations.Capitalism is the freedom to take your business somewhere else.Topics include:• Standard Oil• AT&T and the Reagan breakup• Google's dominance• Healthcare consolidation• PBMs and prescription drug costs• Food industry concentration• Defense contractor consolidation• Government regulation and barriers to entry• Competition vs competitors• Why your paycheck doesn't go as far as it used toIf you enjoy thoughtful conversations about economics, politics, public policy, and common sense solutions, subscribe and share the show.00:00 The Illusion of Monopolies00:27 The Burden of Regulation06:20 The Myth of Free Markets11:48 The Conservative Legacy of Antitrust20:00 Lessons from History: Standard Oil and AT&T26:45 The Pressure of Competition in a Free Market28:27 The Role of Conservatives in Trustbusting28:52 Government Intervention and Market Consequences31:01 The Cycle of Government Fixes and Market Distortion32:53 The Impact of Regulations on Small Businesses36:17 The Creation of Monopolies through Government Meddling38:07 The Loop of Market Concentration and Political Influence41:12 The Healthcare Market and Its Concentration46:05 The Modern Monopoly: Google and Its Influence51:42 Concentration in the Food Industry57:38 The Squeeze on Farmers and Consumers59:34 The Velvet Rope of the Food Market01:00:11 The Role of Middlemen in Healthcare01:01:33 The Airline Industry's Struggles01:03:25 Concentration of Power Across Industries01:04:10 The Confusion of Antitrust Principles01:07:46 The Shift from Building to Bargaining01:11:12 The Path to Restoring Competition01:12:19 Lessons from History: The Breakup of Ma Bell01:14:09 The Call to Action for Competition

The words doctors use during fertility care can wound the patient sitting across the desk. "Failed cycle." "Poor responder." "Ovarian failure." For a woman already carrying the grief of a child she has never had, those words can feel like nails in a coffin. Oluyemisi Famuyiwa, a fertility specialist, argues that infertility grief is compounded by cultural stigma and by clinical language medicine rarely audits. This episode is based on her article "The emotional impact of infertility is grief unspoken," published on KevinMD. You will hear why up to 40 to 50 percent of infertility cases involve a male factor, why the team-based script ("do it for your partner") often gets a resistant husband to agree to testing, what social media hides about donor eggs and late-in-life pregnancies, why no supplement can reverse the biological aging of eggs, and why being culturally nosy is one of the most useful clinical skills a fertility doctor can develop. Partner with me on the KevinMD platform. With over three million monthly readers and half a million social media followers, I give you direct access to the doctors and patients who matter most. The 2024 MLB Draft class is already having a major impact on the 2026 baseball season. With seven of the first nine picks in the draft already debuting and contributing to their clubs' success, there's a real possibility that the Class of '24 could go down as one of the best ever. The question now is: If we re-drafted today, who would go No. 1? On this episode of Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman examine the top 20 picks from the now-infamous 2024 draft and conduct a re-draft based on the recent performances of those players. Would the Cleveland Guardians still take Travis Bazzana No. 1 overall, or would they now prefer Sacramento A's slugger Nick Kurtz or St. Louis Cardinals shortstop JJ Wetherholt? Later, Jake and Jordan discuss Rafael Devers not exactly being thrilled with San Francisco Giants manager Tony Vitello after being pinch-run for, and whether he has a legitimate gripe with the move. They then talk about Bryce Harper's controversial triple that earned him the first cycle of his career for the Philadelphia Phillies, the Detroit Tigers' make-or-break stretch in the postseason race and recap all the other series from the past weekend. 1:31 – The Opener: 2024 MLB Draft Re-Draft 35:48 – How Sweep It Is: Devers Is Not Happy 53:03 – Tigers' Make-or-Break Stretch 55:53 – We Need To Talk About: Harper's Cycle 1:02:55 – Turbo Mode: Weekend Recap Subscribe to Baseball Bar-B-Cast on your favorite podcast app:

Whenever I talk about intuitive eating, women tell me the same thing: "I love the idea, but I don't trust myself around food." And when I talk to dietitians who help people shift from a weight-centric to weight-neutral or inclusive practice, they find it hard to communicate the idea of self-trust. If you can relate to either of these, this conversation is exactly what you need! This week I'm joined by Fiona Sutherland, an accredited practicing dietitian, author, and mentor from Melbourne, and one of the most thoughtful and experienced voices in the world of nutrition. Together we explore why self-trust feels so hard in midlife, especially when your body, hunger, and energy seem to be changing overnight.Fiona and I unpack how years of dieting can chip away at your confidence, why outsourcing your food decisions to a plan feels safer (and what it costs you), and what gently rebuilding trust actually looks like, starting with curiosity instead of control. We also talk about why reaching for support is a sign of courage, and the surprising ingredient Fiona believes most of us are missing in midlife. If you've ever wondered whether you can trust yourself again, I think you'll leave this one feeling a little more hopeful. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Sussanna: Hi Dr. Cabral, I'm very interested in getting your take on this question! I'm a menopausal woman in my early 50's suffering from lack of sleep, hot flashes and mood disruptions. Is taking bio-est 80/20 plus progesterone cream (prescribed by one of the online practitioners) - safe for women with a uterus, or is switching to an estrogen only cream or patch with a progesterone pill the safest option? I've been watching many videos and trying to research as much as I can, yet the debate on which is 'correct' is quite overwhelming. My concern is my background includes my mother who passed away from an aggressive form of uterine cancer. The online practitioner assured me that studies show this combo of compounded estrogen and progesterone can decrease uterine cancer. Thoughts?! Thank you! Kathleen: Hi Dr. Cabral, Have you any recommendations on minimally-invasive skin tightening procedures (after natural weight loss for skin that does not want to retract), such as Airsculpt with Renuvion/Plasma J? It's very expensive, but intriguing, if it works. Mostly concerned about how well it works and the long term effects of Renuvion/Plasma J and dangers it warnings associated. Thank you! Tricia: Hi Dr. Cabral – Hope you are well! I have a bit of an embarrassing topic that I need your help with. I'm 56-year-old female & the last few months I would find myself in a deep sleep dreaming and then jump up as I'm starting to wet the bed. Lately it has gotten more frequent since I've been taking progesterone and melatonin supplements. I'm sleeping great but I can't have this issue keep happening. I am about 50lbs overweight trying to heal my insulin resistance. I always get up at least twice to use the bathroom in general. I figure the doctor would give me pills so I haven't gone. I realize something in my brain is not switching on to tell me to wake up. Do you have any suggestions or guidance? I do stop drinking liquid 2 hours prior to sleep. Thank you! Al: Dr Cabral, I have a question about white nail spots. They tend to appear only whenever I start taking zinc supplements. I've tried picolinate or glycinate (15mg). Even when I take extra zinc short term, for about two weeks 30mg while having viral infection, a spot or two appear. Isn't it suppose to be the opposite? The only zinc that doesn't cause it are those "food-based" supplements. I also take D, Ca (from algae),and now food based multi from fermented quinoa. Even without the multi, according to cronometr I hit everything over 150% except Ca & D. I have smoothie with goat whey for breakfast, vegetarian lunch with lot of beans, paleo style dinner with rice, plus fruits & creatine pre-workout. I am a 44 years old male, about 10 percent bodyfat, athletic looking vata body type Jennifer: Can you give me any insight on cycle problems that I have been having for almost 2 years now. They don't align with the typical timeline of PMS symptoms that everyone talks about. I have minor physical symptoms that I can handle but most importantly I have bad emotional disregulation from about days 3-8 to 12 depending on the month. I'm extremely, anxious, depressed, and get mad at everyone around me. I know this happens but when I'm in it there's nothing I can do to bring myself out until the days pass. It's really starting to take a tole on my relationships, especially my marriage. I plan to do stress mood and metabolism test but should I still do it on 19-21 days since I'm pretty stable then? Also, I'm currently doing CBO and will do the finisher, should I wait til after I finish? Keep winning! Two-time Emmy and Three-time NAACP Image Award-winning, television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Tammeca Rochester. SUMMARY OF THE TAMMECA ROCHESTER INTERVIEW From “Money Making Conversations Master Class” with Rushion McDonald 1. Purpose of the Interview The interview was designed to: Spotlight Tammeca Rochester, founder and CEO of Harlem Cycle, and her journey from engineering and corporate marketing into entrepreneurship. Highlight the importance of holistic wellness, community‑based fitness, and representation within the fitness industry. Inspire entrepreneurs—especially Black women—to pursue business ownership, develop strong business plans, and stay committed to their vision despite barriers. Overall, the interview serves as both a success story and a lesson in entrepreneurship, community impact, and personal transformation. 2. Summary of Key Themes A. Re‑Defining Herself Through Education & Career Changes Tammeca explains why she pursued multiple degrees—from Spelman and Georgia Tech to NYU Stern—and how each phase of her life motivated a new direction. She began in engineering, shifted to business, and ultimately found her passion in wellness. B. The Birth of Harlem Cycle Launched out of personal stress relief and a desire for culturally inclusive fitness spaces. Indoor cycling reminded her of joyful childhood bike rides in Atlanta. She wanted a wellness space where Black people felt seen, represented, and culturally connected—something missing from other cycling studios she attended. C. Building a Community-Centered Fitness Brand Harlem Cycle blends movement, music, and culture, playing the genres she grew up with—reggae, soca, hip‑hop—and fostering a socially connected environment. She stresses that fitness isn’t just physical but also emotional and mental health. D. Entrepreneurship: The Real Story Tammeca self‑financed her business after being denied a bank loan. She built her studio while still working full‑time and caring for a young child. Her first year was grueling—waking up at 5:30am and working until after 9pm daily. She emphasizes the importance of writing a business plan, using realistic projections, and staying true to your vision. E. Mentorship, Representation, and Industry Impact Over 60% of her team began as Harlem Cycle clients she later trained to become instructors. She aims to shift the fitness industry to include more diverse voices and accessible community wellness options. She plans for expansion, opening a third Harlem Cycle location in Newark to serve another community with limited wellness options. 3. Key Takeaways 1. You can redefine yourself at any point in life. “We can always redefine ourselves at any moment in life.” 2. Wellness must address the whole person. “Fitness is not just physical… it’s emotional and mental well‑being.” 3. Create community spaces where people feel represented. Tammeca built Harlem Cycle because she felt isolated in other fitness spaces as the only person of color. She wanted a studio rooted in Black culture and community. 4. Entrepreneurship requires discipline, planning, and sacrifice. “Write out your plan… and stay true to your plan.” “Just because you build it doesn’t mean they’ll come.” 5. Community impact drives her business model. Harlem Cycle isn’t just a workout studio—it's a culturally rooted community center focused on mental, emotional, and physical health. 6. Representation & mentorship matter. “60% of my team started as clients that we trained.” 4. Memorable Quotes Here are the strongest, most quotable lines from Tammeca: On Reinvention “Each time has been a moment in life where I evolved because of a goal I personally wanted.” On Holistic Fitness “Fitness to me is all about how we take care of our bodies—not just our physical body, but our emotional well‑being, our mental well‑being.” On Creating Harlem Cycle “I didn’t want to be the only person of color in the room—again. I wanted a place where my community could be seen.” On Entrepreneurship “Just because you build it doesn’t mean they’ll come… back down those numbers by 90%.” On Community Impact “We’re changing the fitness industry… starting here in Harlem by training our clients to be part of the wellness industry.” On Cultural Integrity “We don’t care about competition here—it’s about community.” #SHMS #STRAW #BESTSupport the show: https://www.steveharveyfm.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Spirit guided me to record another reading for you, and I had to listen. June is SO energetically significant and you are breaking a major cycle. Black sheep, alchemists, creatives, cycle breakers - you are the ones who have been grinding behind the scenes, patiently and impatiently toiling away. You're so deeply connected to the change you want to create in this world, but you've been facing years of dead-ends. There's a shift here, and it's because you never gave up on yourself. Your relationship to what you deserve is much more clear. You are being asked to bring sweetness, softness, slowness, and joy back into your life. All the bricks of the foundation have been laid - now it's time to decorate. How much of yourself can you reflect in your life? How boldly can you live? What if the worry keeping you up at night isn't a warning at all, just your brain doing what it's wired to do?In this episode, Steph unpacks the roots of worry, why our brains are wired for constant threat detection, and how that wiring shows up in daily life. She walks through the idea of neural pathways as mental highways, worn deep by old stories and habits, and explains how environment and culture can quietly fuel anxiety. Steph shares a personal story of facing a health crisis and discovering the power of surrender, not as giving up, but as accepting reality so energy can shift toward something better. Using curiosity as a tool, she shows how to move from fear into possibility, with real, practical steps for letting go of control and easing worry's grip.In this episode you'll discover:How environment influences worry and fearThe importance of surrender in mental healthUsing curiosity to shift from worry to possibilityPractical techniques to reduce worry, including surrender and curiosityYour takeaways:Worry is using imagination to predict pain, draining energy without benefit. Our brains are wired to scan for threats, which fuels worry.Old stories and neuropathways reinforce worry habits.Chapters00:00 Understanding Worry: The Human Condition05:22 Breaking the Cycle of Worry09:09 Surrender and Curiosity: Antidotes to Worry

A hardened heart isn't where the story starts. It's what's left after a child trusted, got hurt, and concluded: I'll never be in that position again. This week, Dr. Greg turns the antisocial series toward hope: looking at how that hardness forms, and how the Sacred Heart of Jesus, betrayed and pierced yet still open, breaks the pattern. Key Topics: Why a hardened heart is never cold by nature—it's protection learned the first time trusting backfired Why the urge to control everyone around you is really an old strategy for never being at anyone's mercy again How "making up for it" can quietly become a way to avoid facing the wound underneath Why Jesus didn't heal the hardened heart from a safe distance—He walked straight into betrayal and stayed open What it means that control isn't the enemy; where you aim it is what changes everything Why healing means loving even the parts of you that sin, not just the parts that behave Why you can't will yourself into trust overnight—and why that slowness reflects your dignity, not your failure Learn More: Earlier in this series on the Antisocial Defense Patterns: Antisocial Part 1 — Ep. #281: Control or Be Controlled: The Devastating Wounds Behind Antisocial Behavioral Patterns Antisocial Part 2 — Ep. #282: You're (Probably) Not a Serial Killer—But You May Share Some of Their Antisocial Traits The Litany for Mental Health Dr. Greg references: A Litany for Mental Health The original Sacred Heart revelations: The Autobiography of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque Start of the Being Human series on the Histrionic Defense Patterns: Ep. #274: To Be Loved Is to Perform: Inside the Histrionic Compulsion for Attention and Validation Start of the Being Human series on the Borderline Defense Patterns: Ep. #269: BORDERLINE: The Push-Pull Between a Fear of Abandonment and Annihilation Start of the Being Human series on the Dependent Defense Patterns: Ep. #265: Jerry Maguire, Gollum, and the Fear of Not Existing Start of the Being Human series on the Narcissistic Defense Patterns: Ep. #261: Narcissism and the Terror of Being Ordinary Need help? If you've been struggling with OCD or anxiety for a long time and feel like nothing is working, this episode may reveal why. Whether you are in active ERP therapy or just beginning to understand your OCD cycle, the message here is one that most people have never heard in quite this way.If you have spent years trying to eliminate thoughts, manage anxiety, or "get better" before giving yourself permission to rest, recover, or even feel okay, this one is for you. Matt walks through the specific ways people with OCD are unloving to themselves without realizing it, and what the path toward integration and true healing actually looks like
