This episode of the Happiness Hour explores the idea that relying too heavily on one source of happiness can lead to disappointment and unhappiness. Dennis uses examples from his own life and the lives of others to illustrate this point, including a story about a woman who put all her happiness eggs in the marital basket, only to find herself devastated when her husband's love for her waned. He also shares a powerful call from a man who spent 40 years trying to make his wife happy, only to realize that he couldn't, and that true happiness comes from within. Building a successful child care business takes more than strong enrollment. It also requires thinking ahead about stability, growth, and creating multiple sources of revenue. In this episode of the Child Care Genius Podcast, we explore the power of diversification and why relying on a single income stream can leave your business vulnerable to economic shifts, subsidy delays, or unexpected market changes.   Join Brian and Carol Duprey as they share practical insights on how child care owners can strengthen their financial foundation by expanding beyond just one center or one revenue source. Listen in as they discuss the realities of opening additional locations, why the second center is often the hardest step for owners to take, and how delegation and leadership become essential as your business grows.   The conversation also dives into one of their favorite long-term wealth-building strategies: real estate. Brian and Carol explain why owning your building can be a game changer for child care owners and how investing in property can create equity, rental income, and lasting assets for future generations.   Along the way, they also share creative ideas for generating additional revenue within your existing operation—from renting unused space to offering convenient services that families appreciate. Tune in to this episode for practical strategies and big-picture thinking that can help you build a more resilient, profitable child care business. In this conversation, writer and author of The Mother Code, Ruthie Ackerman, shares her personal journey from being childfree to becoming a mother, exploring the complexities of motherhood, societal expectations, and the emotional struggles that accompany the decision to have children. You'll hear Ruthie and Keltie discuss: How Ruthie decided to pursue motherhood in spite of her ambivalence, and being only 55% confident in her choice to have kids. How being from a long lineage of women who left their children, meant Ruthie was scared she would do the same.  Why a difference of opinion about kids meant the end of her marriage, and how Ruthie navigated dating while pursuing motherhood. Ruthie's experiences with egg freezing, IVF, and egg donation. How Ruthie's book, The Mother Code, seeks to dismantle traditional notions of motherhood, while highlighting the ambivalence many women feel about motherhood. Why those who become mothers need to identify and create their own version of motherhood, rather than the versions that have been given to them.  As mentioned in the show: Find Ruthie online at www.ruthieackerman.com You can find her book, The Mother Code, all places that books are sold: ruthieackerman.com/the-mother-code And on Instagram: www.instagram.com/ruackerman/ About Ruthie: Ruthie began her writing career with a promise: to shine a light on the people, places, and ideas that are too often ignored. After a stint at the New York Times and a few years reporting on the economy for Forbes, she was awarded journalism fellowships to war-torn Liberia and Lebanon to showcase young people in both countries who were rebuilding their lives out of the ashes of destruction—and finding the resilience to push forward.  In the decade since, she has profiled game-changing entrepreneurs and social activists and written extensively about the professional and financial advancement of women. Ruthie wrote a piece for the New York Times Modern Love column about her own failed egg freezing. “Don't Put All Your (Frozen) Eggs in One Basket,” which became the launching point for her memoir, The Mother Code: My Story of Love, Loss, And The Myths That Shape Us (May 2025, Penguin Random House), and shifted her focus from traditional reporting to personal stories.   She started Ignite Writers Collective in 2019 as a way to work with other writers at all stages of their careers, sharing her insights from years as an editor and writer. Her clients have gotten book deals, published essays, and found the bravery to share their stories with the world.  Ruthie's writing has been published in Vogue, Glamour, O Magazine, The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Salon, Slate, Newsweek, and more. Most recently, she was the Deputy Editor at ForbesWomen. She has a Master's in Journalism from NYU and lives in Brooklyn with her husband and their daughter. Ruthie's forthcoming memoir, The Mother Code, will be released in 2025 by Random House.  __ Get details on an upcoming Kids or Childfree Workshop: kidsorchildfree.com/workshop Check out our free resources here, or at kidsorchildfree.com/free-resources And don't forget to subscribe, rate, and review The Kids or Childfree Podcast if you love what you're hearing! By the conclusion of the episode, I aim for listeners to glean actionable strategies that can be expeditiously integrated into their own entrepreneurial endeavors.Central to the discussion is Wes' strategic approach to entrepreneurship, characterized by a judicious allocation of resources and a commitment to maintaining a lean operational model. This approach not only mitigated financial risk but also facilitated a deeper understanding of client needs and market dynamics. The narrative reveals the challenges encountered when a lucrative client relationship began to monopolize their time, ultimately leading to an existential crisis where the guest realized the necessity of defining their target clientele to foster sustainable growth. Furthermore, the episode delves into the implications of emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, on the landscape of entrepreneurship. For a while now, some of the biggest players in India's third-party logistics industry have been riding on the success of e-commerce unicorn Meesho. As of 2023, it accounted for over half of the 2.5 billion shipments that were being handled by third-party logistics players. Companies like Delhivery and Ecom Express happily rose to the occasion and partnered with Meesho to handle all its order deliveries. For logistics companies this was a dream come true because most of the other major e-commerce players in India – like Flipkart and Amazon – take care of all their logistics in-house. But earlier this year, Meesho announced the launch of Valmo, its own in-house logistics arm. Naturally, third party logistics partners are nervous. But no one is more shaken up than Ecom Express.Tune in.**This episode was first published on September 2, 2024.P.S The Ken's podcast team is hiring! True portfolio diversification means spreading your money across multiple layers of different options. Listen in to learn about the four major strategies we use to significantly diversify investment portfolios for our clients. You will also learn how we use a diversified fixed annuities portfolio for clients who want to avoid market risk. In this episode, find out: Understand that having multiple financial advisors/custodians doesn't give you diversification on its own.The core strategy – how we invest based on what we think will happen in the market based on the available good data. The tactical strategy – how we align investments based on what is working right now. Structured notes – bond alternative low-risk investments issued by banks that yield and gain interest. The fixed income strategy – actively managed and well diversified traditional bonds. How we use a diversified fixed annuities portfolio for clients who want to avoid market risk. Tweetable Quotes:“Simply having three distinct advisors or custodians doesn't inherently provide diversification.”- Radon Stancil “We strongly advocate that there isn't a single perfect strategy.
