Clearing the FOG with co-hosts Margaret Flowers and Kevin Zeese
Two years ago hundreds of people began to occupy Zuccotti Park in New York City in the heart of Wall Street. That occupation, Occupy Wall Street (OWS), exploded into hundreds of occupations around the country within a matter of weeks. We'll speak to three people who were part of OWS. Laura Gottesdiener who recently published" A Dream Foreclosed" will speak about Occupy Our Homes. Goldi Guerra will speak about the ongoing Occupy Sandy efforts including organizing for long term recovery in the affected areas. And Justin Wedes will announce a new financial service for the unbanked and underbanked, the Occupy Money cooperative. For more information, visit ClearingtheFOGRadio.org.
MATTHEW MURRAY, along with Senka and other surprise guest will be joining us.BEVERLY AND MATTHEW MURRAY WITH THEIR TWO GIRLS WERE FORCIBLY AND ILLEGALLY EVICTED FROM THEIR HOME AT 733 BLACKFOOT COURT IN COLDWATER, MICHIGAN MAY 14th 2013!! "Beverly and Matt Murray with their two girls were forcibly and illegally evicted from their home on May 14, 2013. As a result of decreased income and ongoing medical expenses related to their youngest daughter, who had become ill with type 1 diabetes several years earlier, the Murrays asked for a modification to their loan. In November 2012, Bank Of America sent a letter to the Murrays promising a reasonable loan modification, which the Murrays had proven they were financially able to handle. But each time they called the bank, no one would speak with them about the matter. Instead, as a result of a disputed wrongful foreclosure, the bank proceeded to try to evict them, while insisting to others this case was still in litigation in order to stonewall any opposition. Although the Murrays continued to contact Bank of America, on Tuesday May 14th, at 2:30 in the afternoon, two deputies, detective and 3 men from Safeguard Properties Inc showed up at the Murrays’ door and told them if they didn’t leave, they would be arrested. The Murrays were there with two of their friends from Occupy Our Homes. Rather than risk more serious charges, Matthew asked if they could gather a few things such as clothes and medicine, as well as some of their more precious belongings. They carried as much out of the house as they could, until the Sheriff demanded they leave so Safeguard Properties Inc could change the locks. The Murrays did there best to stay calm while being ripped from their home of seven years at threat of gunpoint and arrest. They hurriedly tried to think what they would need and gathered items such as Brittany’s medications and supplies, as well as a few clothes.
From the Occupy Wall Street Journal to the raid on Zuccotti Park to Occupy Our Homes in East New York to the Lincoln Center Opera House, this week's episode continues to chronicle the events of Occupy Wall Street through performances of interviews with actual protesters. Jordan Mahome plays Jordan (no relation), Garrett Neergaard plays Michael, and Caitlin Miller plays an actress who has been to Occupy protests around New York City. The episode concludes with an audience sing-along recorded during the live performance at Joe's Pub led by Michael Friedman. The song is from his great-grandfather's rebel songbook.
