Karin berättar om Mohammed Omar, som i början av 2000-talet blev känd som The Sana'a Ripper i Jemen, och Anna om vad det var som hände när Pacific Southwest Airlines Flight 1771 plötsligt kraschade den 7 december 1987. My Favorite Murder with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark
Karen and Georgia cover PSA Flight 1771 and the Kent State massacre.
In the 33rd podcast from CatastropheCast.com, we look at the mid-air collision of a Boeing 727-200 and a Cessna, how some symptoms of the crash linger on in aviation even today, and what changes came about because of the crash, making aviation that much safer.
From the day of the catastrophe, Sept. 25, 1978, there's been speculation over the precise cause of the deadly collision between a PSA jet and a Cessna over North Park. To Leo Leonard, though, there's no question where the blame lies. “Air traffic control,” he said. “Air traffic control cleared PSA to land, knowing there was an aircraft it had on the radar in the landing pattern.” A co-founder of Pacific Southwest Airlines, Leonard is 99 years old. The Del Cerro resident says he'll devote the rest of his days to clearing the reputation of the men and women of PSA Flight 182.
Mark reflects heavily on the horrific crash from September 25, 1978, as PSA Flight 182 ripped through a neighborhood in North Park and killed more than 140 people. Joe Graham is a former PSA pilot, as well as Mark's personal flight instructor, and sheds some light on the tragedy. Also, Michael Reagan - President of the Reagan Legacy Foundation - opines on the latest media reactions inside the beltway as it pertains to Judge Brett Kavanaugh, and North Korea via President Trump's address at the UN General Assembly, among others.
The calm of the December day was shattered by a plane screaming down out of the sky to crash in a California field. The only thing the NTSB knew when they arrived was that the pilot had reported gunfire aboard.
Friday, December 7, 2007. Twenty years ago today, PSA Flight 1771 crashed, killing everyone aboard, in what was not an accident but one of the worst incidents of workplace homicide in American history. I share some details of the crash and how it happened, along with a discussion of the origins of a phrase which didn't yet exist in 1987 but is now commonly used to describe such incidents.Today's episode music is 'Terraform,' by Aged Machine. Our theme music is composed and performed by Marc Rose.
