In Episode 464 of Hidden Forces, Demetri Kofinas speaks with economist, investor, and sovereign wealth and pension fund advisor Sony Kapoor about the case for a great rebalancing of capital from developed into emerging markets, generational investment opportunities in India, how the breakdown of the unipolar order creates both challenges and opportunities for EM investors, and whether AI can revive developed economies weighed down by public debt, unfunded liabilities, and faltering demographics. The first hour covers the structural forces behind the outsized concentration of global portfolios in American assets, why the Trump administration's erratic policymaking has made that overexposure impossible to ignore, and a deep dive into India—its evolving relationship with the US, how its elites and citizens perceive America under Trump, what it has drawn from Beijing's development model, and the remarkable optimism pervading Indian society in contrast to Western declinism. The second hour examines the broader EM investment case—why risk across currency, political, fiscal, and institutional dimensions is converging between developed and developing economies, why growth and demographic tailwinds favor dramatic portfolio reallocation toward emerging markets, and whether AI can sustain America's virtuous capital reinvestment cycle or whether rapid global adoption will erode that edge. They also discuss geopolitical complexities shaping these considerations, from India's deep military dependence on Russia to the fraying US-led international order and its implications for strategic autonomy across the developing world. A powerful nor'easter is sweeping across the Northeast. It's bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions to the region. Blizzard warnings are in effect for major cities including New York, Philadelphia, and Boston, with more than 40 million people in the storm's path. Governors in seven states have declared emergencies and urged residents to stay home as snow accumulates quickly and visibility drops. The United States won its first men's Olympic hockey gold since 1980, defeating Canada 2-1 in overtime at the Milano Cortina Games. Jack Hughes scored the winning goal just over a minute into a 3-3 overtime, sending the U.S. team and fans into a wild celebration. The security alert follows the killing of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, better known as El Mencho, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. Visit our website ➡️➡️➡️ https://www.majesticproduction.com/This is a BIG episode. Historic. Television as we know it? Shaped — maybe perfected — by professional wrestling. We break it down in a way nobody else does.First, this week in wrestling is absolutely loaded. Former WWE Women's Champion Ronda Rousey is coming out of MMA retirement to fight Gina Carano — that's headlines.Cain Velasquez has been released from prison on parole.Next week on WWE Raw live from Atlanta, there's a tribute to AJ Styles, who retired at the Royal Rumble. Phenomenal career. We also discuss reports of WWE restricting Elimination Chamber watch parties in Chicago, and newly released police body cam footage involving Vince McMahon's car crash. And yes — we address the situation involving Janel Grant. She recently appeared at a Connecticut sexual assault survivor conference, where she publicly discussed her legal allegations involving Vince McMahon and WWE. She spoke directly about the case, the impact it's had, and her experience navigating it publicly. We give our take. In high-profile litigation, public commentary during active legal matters is rare and strategic — and in wrestling, presentation matters. We analyze how media appearances intersect with legal battles, how narrative shapes perception, and how blurred lines between real-life conflict and wrestling-style storytelling can influence public reaction. Then we go DEEP on how wrestling shaped television itself: multi-camera live directing as a story engine, reaction shots as narrative control, replay used as emotional reinforcement, picture-in-picture during commercials, branded segments, character-driven graphics, controlled chaos audio mixing, roaming cams, cinematic slow motion, reality-TV pacing before reality TV exploded, and the “worked shoot” that blurred reality and performance.Wrestling didn't invent every technique — but it perfected the weekly application under live pressure.Television owes wrestling. Big time.Make Wrestling Majestic Again.Watch our full podcast here ➡️➡️➡️ anchor.fm/majestic-production

The Supreme Court's Threat to Independent Agencies. Analyzing upcoming Supreme Court cases, John Yoopredicts the potential overturning of the historic Humphrey's Executor precedent. Such a ruling would fundamentally dismantle the protections shielding independent agencies like the Federal Trade Commission from direct presidential control, sparking a massive structural revolution within the federal government's executive branch. #161930 ROYAL AGRICULTURAL WINTER FAIR
Israel has never been stronger. Since October 7, 2023, Israel has steadily rolled back its enemies in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran. A staunch friend of Israel is in the White House, and he might well launch a second wave of strikes on Israel's archenemy in Tehran. Or is Israel historically vulnerable? None of the adversaries it has taken on since the Hamas invasion are defeated. US President Donald Trump is an ally, but both the Democratic and Republican parties have influential and growing wings that are hostile to Israel, if not antisemitic. To make sense of this moment, one needs a grasp of military strategy, Middle East geopolitics, and the workings of the US-Israel relationship. Michael Oren, Israel's former envoy in Jerusalem and a leading Middle East historian, says that the post-October 7 wars represent "one of the greatest military victories in modern history, perhaps in all history." However, it remains to be seen whether Israel can translate the military victories into permanent strategic and diplomatic gains. On the potential for a US strike in Iran, Oren stresses the importance of missile defense for the US Navy, as Iran's greatest achievement would be the sinking of an American aircraft carrier. He predicts that after Trump issued clear threats and put his reputation on the line, he is not going to back down and leave a legacy that could be compared to that of Barack Obama. Looking at the future of the US-Israeli relationship, Oren notes that the US is going through domestic processes that Israel has no control over, but often use Israel to score political points. Given those trends, Israel should diversify its diplomatic relationships, but there will never be a replacement for American support. Oren firmly supports Israel moving off of US military aid, and transforming its relationship with Washington into one of equal partners working together to develop capabilities. Today, another breakdown of the remarkable dispersion in the US market, with few signs that it is ending just yet, while Europe continues to soar on record inflows. In this episode, we revisit a conversation between Patti Murphy and FDNY Lt Matt Connor covering the Equitable Building fire on January 9th, 1912. This event tested the courage and skill of the FDNY in some of the most extreme conditions. The 10-story building at 120 Broadway in Lower Manhattan was considered “fireproof.” In reality, it was cast iron, full of combustible materials, and lacked automatic fire protection. A discarded match in the basement sparked a fire that quickly spread through open elevator shafts and stairways. FDNY members battled frigid temperatures, high winds, and ice. Six people lost their lives, including Battalion Chief William J. Walsh, who was killed when part of the building collapsed. Despite the danger, firefighters performed several dramatic rescues. The fire led to significant reforms in firefighting, from zoning resolutions and high-pressure hydrants to operational changes. Most notably, it inspired the creation of Rescue Company 1 in March 1915, which quickly fielded Draeger smoke helmets—providing the first rescue company in the United States with a breathing apparatus. The Equitable Building was rebuilt with a steel frame, completed in 1915, and became the largest office building in the world by floor area for a time. Over the past century, it has housed countless commercial tenants, standing as a testament to American resilience and ingenuity. In just a few weeks, FDNY members will return to the Equitable Building for an exercise testing next-generation Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus. Ascending from the lobby to the upper floors in full gear and on air, they'll connect the storied past of the FDNY with the fire service's readiness for the future. This episode originally aired January 13th, 2022.
Today, a look at a modest US equity market rally as we wonder whether those pressing recent themes within AI winners vs. AI losers have overextended themselves. In any case, equity technicals look pivotal here, as does the USD and JPY outlook in key pairs, all while we wonder whether markets, outside of the crude oil market itself, are too complacent in continuing to ignore the risk of the outbreak of a war or regime change attempt in Iran. Historic scenes in Sandringham, as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor is arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. This week on Hysteria 51, we're serving up a double feature where folklore meets… fecal science. First, we head to rural India, where a woman dodges an arranged marriage by leaving behind a perfectly curated “I turned into a snake” crime scene: a 1.5m shed snakeskin, her jewelry, and clothes arranged like a supernatural mic-drop, sending the village into full naagin panic while police gently remind everyone they're hunting a person, not a serpent. Then we hop across the globe to Nantucket, where the island's wastewater has been tested and the results are basically: “Historic charm, hydrangeas… and cocaine markers popping above national and regional averages.” Because nothing says coastal getaway like your sewer system quietly yelling, “PARTY'S NOT OVER.”Hit play for weird news, wild choices, and the kind of reality that makes you ask, “Are we okay as a species?” (Spoiler: probably not.)Links & Resources

Today, continuing to note the wild swings in individual names even as the overall indices look relatively flat on the surface, while wondering whether some of the recent attempts to play the AI winners/losers game has gone too far and if we could see some mean reversion. We run through a number of individual stock stories as well. Over in macro and FX we note the market shifting into limbo mode, which is raising uncertainty levels uncomfortably. Today's pod is hosted by Saxo Global Head of Macro Strategy John J. Hardy. Two links for today. The one to a great recent podcast on all things FX, speculative stocks and more with Brent Donnelly and another some comments from Jeremy Grantham on the risks to the main indices if two of the "big three" IPOs happen this year. Two or three times per week, you will also find links discussed on the podcast and a chart-of-the-day over at the John J. Hardy substack. The Olympia (Gusman) Theater in downtown Miami was falling apart — scaffolding for years, crumbling facade, ADA issues, and even a city "repair or demolish" order. Then came a 7-year legal battle that changed everything. In this episode of Cut to the Chase, rising South Florida attorney Dylan Barket joins the show to break down how he and his father used historic deed restrictions to hold the City accountable and ultimately help secure a $50+ million restoration plan for one of Miami's most iconic landmarks. We cover: The lawsuit that protected the Olympia Theater How deed restrictions can shape real estate and preservation battles Why the building must remain a theater and stay open to the public The $50M nonprofit investment restoring the property The fascinating history of Maurice Gusman and the theater's legacy Lessons for lawyers on winning without a courtroom verdict This isn't just a legal story — it's about legacy, historic preservation, strategy, and how persistence can reshape a city. If you care about law, real estate, historic preservation, or Miami's future, this is an episode you don't want to miss. Barket Lawyers Website: https://www.barketlawyers.com

A Marine is declared lost at sea, the Marine Corps passes another clean audit, and an Afghan adoption case survives court. The Air Force wrestles with healthcare access and collaborative combat aircraft software, Space Force pushes quality-of-life fixes, the Coast Guard uses an anti-drone laser near El Paso, and SECDEF skips a NATO meeting while POTUS leans on military leaders for diplomacy. We're going back to the Moon. The planned March 2026 launch of Artemis II is the first crewed mission to the moon since 1972. Historic as it is, it isn't the only lunar event creating a stir at NASA. Two seismometers are to be delivered to Schrödinger's Crater in a mission called The Farside Seismic Suite, in which the instruments will measure moonquakes and record the possible impact of asteroid 2024 YR4 on lunar surface. Meanwhile, studies of the sun are heating up. The so-called PUNCH mission, a four-satellite constellation that will create an image of the sun's corona and solar winds, may help us better understand what drives solar storms and how we can protect Earth from their energetic blasts. Guests: Eugene Cernan – Apollo 17 astronaut Harrison "Jack" Schmitt – Geologist and Apollo 17 astronaut Andrew Rivkin – Planetary astronomer at the Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University Ceri Nunn – Lunar seismologist and planetary scientist, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory Ryan French – solar physicist, at the Laboratory for Atmospheric & Space Physics, Boulder, Colorado, and author of “Space Hazards: Asteroids, Solar Flares and Cosmic Threats” Craig DeForest – Heliophysicist, Southwest Research Institute, principal investigator on NASA's PUNCH mission Featuring music by Dewey Dellay and Jun Miyake Big Picture Science is part of the Airwave Media podcast network.
