Today, some last thoughts on the FOMC ahead of the meeting as the market is treating it with little anticipation even if this is likely to prove the most significant ideological change at the Fed since Greenspan left in 2006. Also - evidence from a choppy session for chips that the market nervousness may be rising for the hero sectors powering the recent market advance, especially given the max supportive move lower in crude oil yesterday, showing that lower oil prices have lost their impact as macro driver. This and more on today's pod, which is hosted by Saxo Global Head of Macro Strategy John J. Hardy. Links Yesterday's John J. Hardy substack with more links, if you missed these. Craig Tindale's latest on "Who owns the chemistry that turns metal into power." Laying out why those critical materials are so critical and the systematic changes required to address the issue if China isn't to maintain its dominance and leverage. Peter Garnry on SpaceX and how truly rare it is to see the kind of growth that some are anticipating for this company - with only two prior examples that are even in the same universe for a company of size. H.W. Brands describes how, during the summer of 1940, as London burned under the Luftwaffe's terror weapons, Roosevelt made the historic decision to seek a third term. He used "Rooseveltian misdirection" to freeze out potential Democratic successors like James Farley and John Nance Garner, eventually engineering a "draft" of himself based on the international emergency. Lindbergh and other skeptics saw this as a move toward a presidency for life, with Lindbergh accurately predicting Roosevelt would run for a fourth term and die in office. To formalize the opposition, the America First Committee was formed under General Robert Wood of Sears Roebuck, with Lindbergh serving as its star speaker. Lindbergh enjoyed massive media support and funding, delivering rallies that drew thousands while Roosevelt campaigned on promises that "your son will not die in a foreign war." The debate became increasingly personal, with Senator Burton Wheeler suggesting that every fourth American son would be "plowed into the ground" if the country intervened. Roosevelt, a master of press conferences, used his "slippery" instincts to treat reporters as adjuncts to his administration, planting ideas to see how they would be received by the public. Despite Lindbergh's constant radio messages that the U.S. was secure behind two oceans and possessed a superior military, Roosevelt began planning the Lend-Lease program as 1941 approached. (4)

Today, a look at risk sentiment in full swing after a successful SpaceX IPO on Friday and a stronger sense that the Iran war ceasefire may last long enough for shipping lanes to fully open in the Hormuz Strait, at least for a time. But while speculative energy remains high in equities, the broader macro picture is subdued, with little FX and rates volatility even as the new Kevin Warsh Fed marks the biggest shift at the Fed in a generation. This and much more, including the BoJ up tonight, on today's pod, which is hosted by Saxo Global Head of Macro Strategy John J. Hardy Links John's The FX Trader piece from today, discussing the technical situation in EURUSD and previewing the seven G-10 central bank meetings this week. A 20-minute CNBC interview with SpaceX President and COO Gwynne Shotwell, where she talks a good game and even delivers the outlook for orbiting data centers with a straight face. FT discusses the many forced buyers of SpaceX as the company has been fast tracked to join many major stock indices, the members of which enjoy passive inflows. The Wall Street Journal with the basic, but important discussion of how Kevin Warsh is set to alter the Fed's communication strategy (an important first step, but as emphasized on the podcast - there are much bigger questions afoot down the line.) Too many Christians, Jerry Sittser says, sit at a banquet table and eat only one food. In this episode, host Tressa Spingler talks with theologian, historian, and author Dr. Jerry Sittser — professor emeritus of theology at Whitworth University — about the newly revised edition of his book Water from a Deep Well and the spiritual inheritance many believers overlook.Drawing on the monks' rhythm of life, the Desert Fathers and Mothers, the mystics, and the great tradition of historic orthodoxy, Sittser invites listeners to rediscover something ancient rather than chase something new. He reflects on inhabiting time rather than spending it, beginning the week with rest, the practice of silence (“get up to slow down”), and what the early church can still teach a hurried, distracted age.The conversation turns honest and personal as Sittser — who lost his wife and a daughter in an automobile accident — describes suffering not as something to overcome or avoid but as something to step into and find God within. It's an invitation to live in the tension of beauty and sorrow, and to take the small first steps toward a deeper, well-rooted faith.YOU WILL LEARNWhy so many Christians “eat only one food” — and what the full diet of historic Christianity offersHow a January course at a snowed-in mountain camp became the seed of Water from a Deep WellThe monks' gift of rhythm: inhabiting time instead of consuming it, and beginning the week with restThe Desert Fathers and Mothers — stranger, funnier, and wiser than they first appearUnion of relationship vs. union of absorption: a healthier way to read the mysticsSuffering as an inevitable part of discipleship — and the soul's capacity to hold beauty and sorrow at onceWhere to begin when you feel spiritually dry: small, meaningful, deep first stepsGUEST BIODr. Jerry Sittser is professor emeritus of theology and a senior fellow at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington, specializing in the history of Christianity, Christian spirituality, and religion in American public life. The author of nine books — including A Grace Disguised, The Will of God as a Way of Life, Resilient Faith, and Water from a Deep Well — he has spent decades helping Christians recover the wisdom and deep roots of the historic church for everyday life.RESOURCES & LINKSJerry Sittser's website: https://www.jerrysittser.com/Water from a Deep Well (revised edition): https://www.jerrysittser.com/booksPracticing the Way podcast series with John Mark Comer: https://www.practicingtheway.org/podcasts/practicing-the-way More episodes & SLBF Studio at Upper House: https://slbf.org/studioSend us Fan MailCONNECT WITH USSubscribe to The UpWords Podcast wherever you listen to podcasts and visit slbf.org/studio to learn more about our work at the intersection of faith, the academy, and the marketplace. This episode was created by the SLBF STUDIO at Upper House.Produced by Daniel Johnson and Dave ConourEdited by Dave Conour

President Trump has announced another potential deal with Iran, and many people are already reacting with fear, anger, or excitement. My message is simple: Don't panic. Some people misunderstand me. They assume that when I say not to panic, I mean the deal will never happen. That is not what I am saying. I have no idea whether it will happen or not. What I do know is that no agreement will change the fundamental nature of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The regime's jihadi ambitions, its hatred of Israel or the USA, and its desire to spread its jihad throughout the world are not going away because of signatures on a piece of paper. The real lesson is that we must stop placing our faith in human leaders.Whether Trump succeeds or fails, whether a deal is signed or not, the Jewish nation must place its faith in God alone. At the same time, we must continue doing what is necessary to ensure that the evil Islamic Republic of Iran can never again threaten Israel, the free world, or even its own suffering citizens.Jihadi Islam remains the greatest threat to civilization. No agreement signed in Washington changes that reality.More important than any announcement coming out of Washington was the recent declaration by Israel's Defense Minister. He made it clear that Israel will not withdraw from its security zones in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, that the IDF will continue defending Israel from forward positions, and that Gaza's jihadi infrastructure must be dismantled. He also spoke about advancing migration from Gaza and rebuilding Jewish communities in northern Gaza. That is the news people should be paying attention to.It signals that Israel is continuing to move forward with the lessons of October 7th. It signals that Israel understands that security is achieved through strength, presence, and control—not wishful thinking. The next step must be even clearer: applying Israeli sovereignty to every area liberated from our jihadi enemies. Whether in Gaza, Judea and Samaria, southern Lebanon, or southern Syria, lasting victory comes when Israel takes responsibility for securing and developing the land rather than leaving vacuums that our enemies inevitably fill. The lesson of October 7th is simple. If we are not there, they will be.After the Iranian and Qatari-backed invasion of southern Israel, no Israeli leader should ever again allow jihadi organizations—whether Sunni or Shiite—to build military threats on our borders.Stay strong.Keep your eyes on what Israel is actually doing on the ground.Have faith in the God of Israel.Support leadership that learns the real lessons of October 7th and acts accordingly. The Lion of Zion is awake.Am Yisrael Chai.Join Our Whatsapp Channel: https://chat.whatsapp.com/GkavRznXy731nxxRyptCMvFollow us on Twitter: https://x.com/AviAbelowJoin our Telegram Channel: https://t.me/aviabelowpulseFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pulse_of_israel/?hl=enPulse of Israel on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/IsraelVideoNetworkVisit Our Website - https://pulseofisrael.com/Donate to Pulse of Israel: https://pulseofisrael.com/boost-this-video/
Every week, Alex and Joe get five “facts”—some true, some fake—and have to figure out which ones are real and which ones are historical fever dreams. This week's theme dives into the wonderfully chaotic world of conflict resolution, where wars are avoided by accident, treaties hinge on pettiness, and entire empires collapse because someone forgot a key.In this episode, the hosts tackle claims involving:A tiny European army that returned from war with more soldiers than it left withA land deal so sloppy it involved buying territory from someone who didn't own itA Prussian king whose foreign policy revolved entirely around collecting tall dudesA Sicilian family feud that escalated into architectural warfareA colonial superpower that learned (again) why you never start a land war in AsiaSome of these stories are real. Some are fake. Some are so absurd that even the real ones feel fake. And at least one involves a “spite house” built purely to ruin someone's view forever.Play along, make your guesses, and prepare for an episode full of diplomacy, disaster, and the most unhinged conflict‑resolution strategies in history.#TheAllegendlyPodcast #FactOrFake #HistoryPodcast #ConflictResolution #WeirdHistory #ComedyPodcast
