On this week's episode of “Yep, That Happened,” Shirley gives her review of the Netflix series, The Ultimatum. Enjoy! (Spoilers included)Note: This episode was recorded before the string of mass shootings that occurred in the two weeks following the Buffalo shooting. It has been beyond devastating and depressing to hear about the mass shootings in Uvalde, TX; Tulsa, OK; and several other cities across the country. Innocent people are getting killed senselessly, and our public officials are doing nothing or suggesting even more harmful ideas for how to stop the epidemic of gun violence that has been going on in this country for decades (think about the cases that go unreported). Once again, prayers and condolences are not enough. We need strict gun laws, similar to what other countries have done already. People deserve to be safe in and outside their homes. Schools, grocery stores, churches, hospitals, movie theaters, and practically every public place in this country are no longer safe until we pass some serious gun reform.Links mentioned:Doja Cat - Vegas (From the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ELVIS) (Official Video):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZp2biJul1c“BUFFALO SUPERMARKET: A Pattern of Foolery, Punitive Entitlement, & NOT A Mental Health Issue...” video by Calvin Michaels:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9ffI8Yg4Sk“Cowardice is the point of white supremacy, too” The Washington Post article by Damon Young:https://www.washingtonpost.com/magazine/2022/05/26/damon-young-buffalo-shooting-cowardice-is-point-white-supremacy-too/“What we know about the victims of the Buffalo grocery store shooting” The Washington Post article by By Joanna Slater, Monika Mathur and Razzan Nakhlawihttps://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/05/15/buffalo-shooting-victims/“What we know about the Uvalde elementary school massacre” Vox article by Nicole Narea:https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/23140441/uvalde-shooting-robb-elementary-school-texas“America's gun violence epidemic, in one chart” Vox article by Rani Molla:https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/23141964/america-gun-violence-epidemic-chart“Police inaction moves to center of Uvalde shooting probe” Associated Press article by Stefanie Dazio:https://apnews.com/article/uvalde-school-shooting-police-184334fed299bad71e257b585f7790ea“Tulsa, Oklahoma, medical center shooting: Police identify victims, gunman. Sherry Shriner had a wacky belief: That alien lizards had come to Earth, shape shifted into human form, and were conspiring to put the antichrist in power. Sherry shared this belief online, and incredibly, her views gained traction. Soon, thousands of people came to believe the “prophet” Sherry Shriner’s teachings. Steven Mineo and his girlfriend Barbara Rogers were two of Sherry’s loyal followers. But when Barbara made a Facebook post about steak tartare, their online community turned on them. Then Kristin tells us about the Angleton family. The Angletons had it all. They lived in an affluent area of Houston, Texas. They belonged to the best country club. They hobnobbed with all the right people. Bob Angleton worked long hours as a bookie. His hard work meant big money. But the money couldn’t make up for the problems in Bob and Doris’ marriage. So in February of 1997, Doris asked Bob for a divorce. Two months later, police discovered Doris Angleton dead in her home. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. (No shade, Wikipedia. We love you.) We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from:An episode of The Dead Wives Club titled, “The Bookie’s Wife”“The Bookmaker’s Wife,” by Skip Hollandsworth for Texas Monthly An episode of Power Privilege and Justice titled, “The Murder of Doris Angleton” “Doris Angleton” entry on WikipediaIn this episode, Brandi pulled from:“Online Alien Reptiles” episode Deadly Cults“Man's Online Feud With Reptile-Fearing Cult Ends In Bizarre Murder” by Erik Hawkins, Oxygen“Reptile Cult Feud Ends in Death” by Kelly Weill, The Daily Beast“It looked like a simple domestic murder.
