On March 13th 2006 during spring break at Duke University the Lacrosse team that had to stay on Campus went on to throw a party at an off campus house where the team hired 2 exotic dancers to attend. Shortly after the 2 girls arrived they would both pick up and leave. While one left in a car the other would be convinced to go back inside and would eventually end up at the police department in Durham to accuse some of the team members of criminal actions.   Sources  William D. The vast majority of these refugee scholars were arrested, murdered, or forced to flee the Soviet Union during the Great Terror. Many of the survivors then found themselves embroiled in the Holocaust. Ensnared Between Hitler and Stalin: Refugee Scientists in the USSR (U Toronto Press, 2023) explores the forced migration of these displaced academics from Nazi Germany to the Soviet Union. The book follows the lives of thirty-six scholars through some of the most tumultuous events of the twentieth century. It reveals that not only did they endure the chaos that engulfed central Europe in the decades before Hitler came to power, but they were also caught up in two of the greatest mass murders in history. David Zimmerman examines how those fleeing Hitler in their quests for safe harbour faced hardship and grave danger, including arrest, torture, and execution by the Soviet state. Chatting With Sherri welcomes author and Writers of the Future Grand Prize Winner, David K. Henrickson! David Henrickson has been in love with science fiction since he was nine years old. He still remembers turning a corner in his local library and seeing rack upon rack (okay, three racks) of juvenile science fiction, which fired his imagination and transported him to strange new worlds. Unlike other boys his age, he never developed an obsession with cars or other such pedestrian forms of travel. If it couldn't take him to other worlds, out of the solar system, back in time, or to another dimension, he just wasn't interested. During college, he won several writing awards and later received a scholarship to the Clarion Science Fiction and Fantasy Writer's Workshop. Dave has a background in oceanography, engineering, and computer science, but always wanted to be an artist. Or maybe a dancer. These days he lives in Virginia and spends his free time reading, writing, and killing monsters with his wife, Abbie. Dave has also written a number of novels he hopes might even get published one of these days. This was recorded in May but due to some tech difficulties which we overcame we are broadcasting tonight!
