Is America screwed? Not according to the former managing editor of Wired, Peter Leyden. The creator of the Substack newsletter The Great Progression, Leyden believes that U.S. history operates in 80 year cycles and that America, empowered by Northern Californian technology, is gearing up for another remarkable period of innovation. Leyden is no MAGA fanboy, but argues that Trump is enabling the American future by destroying the Republican brand and unintentionally guaranteeing a longterm Democratic majority. It's a provocative thesis which I hope is true. But what about China? And can we really trust Silicon Valley's tech titans to make America great again? 5 Takeaways* Leyden believes America cycles through major reinventions approximately every 80 years, with previous transformations occurring after the Constitutional Convention, Civil War, and World War II.* He argues that post-WWII systems (welfare state, Pax Americana) are outdated and that Trump's presidency is accelerating their necessary dismantling.* Leyden sees an opportunity for progressives to rebuild American systems using AI, clean energy and bioengineering in more efficient, effective ways.* Leyden references economic historian Carlota Perez's theory that technological revolutions move from "Gilded Ages" (concentrated wealth/power) to "Golden Ages" (distributed benefits) through democratic intervention.* Leyden positions the US-China competition, particularly in AI development, as a fundamental contest between democratic and authoritarian approaches to organizing society with new technologies.Peter Leyden is a tech expert and thought leader on artificial intelligence, climate technologies and a more positive future through his keynote speaking, writing and advising. Leyden currently is the creator of The Great Progression: 2025 to 2050, which is a series of keynote talks, Substack essays, and his next book on our new potential to harness AI and other transformative technologies to create a much better world. He also is the founder of Reinvent Futures, advising senior leaders in strategic foresight and the impacts of these new technologies. Since coming to San Francisco to work with the founders of WIRED to start The Digital Age, he has followed the front edge of technological change and built an extraordinary network of pioneering innovators in Silicon Valley. Leyden most recently convened this network of elite tech experts through the first two years of the Generative AI Revolution as host and curator of one of the premier event series at ground zero in San Francisco — The AI Age Begins. Leyden is the former Managing Editor of WIRED, who then became the Founder and CEO of two startups that pioneered the early video mediums of first YouTube and then Zoom. He wrote two influential books on the future that went into multiple languages, including The Long Boom that foretold how the new digital economy would scale over 25 years — and largely did. Leyden began his career as a journalist covering America, then did a stint as a foreign correspondent in Asia for Newsweek, including covering the early rise of China. He has traveled to more than 50 countries around the world. He was raised in the heartland in Minnesota, graduated summa cum laude at Georgetown University, and earned two masters degrees from Columbia University.Named as one of the "100 most connected men" by GQ magazine, Andrew Keen is amongst the world's best known broadcasters and commentators. In addition to presenting the daily KEEN ON show, he is the host of the long-running How To Fix Democracy interview series. He is also the author of four prescient books about digital technology: CULT OF THE AMATEUR, DIGITAL VERTIGO, THE INTERNET IS NOT THE ANSWER and HOW TO FIX THE FUTURE.

Gavin Esler talks to Harvard Professor of Economics and former International Monetary Fund chief economist Kenneth Rogoff, whose new book Our Dollar, Your Problem looks at the rise of the US currency and shows why its future is far from assured. • This episode of This Is Not A Drill is supported by Incogni, the service that keeps your private information safe, protects you from identity theft and keeps your data from being sold. Evangelical Wheaton College outside of Chicago just gave a speaking platform to Munther Isaac, the Palestinian Marxist pastor the Pittsburg Jewish Chronicle calls "The high priest of Antisemitic Christianity."Isaac spoke to a packed audience of over 500 Wheaton students and faculty on March 25 and repeatedly falsely accused Israel of genocide. Remarkably, Munther Isaac was not challenged or confronted for his Antisemitism during his talk at Wheaton, but rather applauded. A tragic and surreal repeat of the Antisemitism of Christians in Germany in the 1930's. Listen now to Aaron's talk with Dexter Van Zile. Dexter is the Managing Editor of Focus On Western Islamism at The Middle East Forum. Dexter has covered the radical anti-Western and anti-Israel narrative promulgated by Isaac and his camp for years and explains what is at the heart of their Antisemitism. In this podcast, Dexter takes apart Munther Isaac's gross fabrication of the genocide lie.

Nightlife News Breakdown with Philip Clark, joined by Emily Barrett, Managing Editor from The Saturday Paper.
Parent-specific epigenetic marks (imprints) leading to parent-specific gene expression are crucial for normal growth and development, yet their mechanisms of establishment and maintenance are not fully understood. In humans, approximately 200 imprinted genes have been discovered, and improper imprinting can manifest in growth restriction, obesity, intellectual disabilities, behavioral abnormalities, and an increased risk of certain cancers. While the use of pluripotent stem cells, especially those in the naïve state, have advanced aspects of modeling early development, a persistent issue hampering bona fide naïve hPSCs is the erosion of imprints. Our guests on today's episode will discuss genomic imprinting, its function, impact, and a new reporter system of imprinted gene expression in hPSCs that enables real-time visualization of loss-of-imprinting at single-cell resolution. This assay provides an important tool to help discover how to improve the imprint fidelity of naïve hPSCs and hence their application for studies of human development and regeneration. In this episode of the CEU Review of Books podcast host, Andrea Talabér (Managing Editor) is joined by three members of the the ERC-funded project Revenant - Revivals of Empire: Nostalgia, Amnesia, Tribulation project: Jeremy F. Walton, the PI; Kevin Kenjar, a post-doctoral researcher and Matea Magdić, a PhD Researcher on the project. Revenant examines how in Central Europe, the Balkans, and in the Middle East bygone imperial projects are increasingly inseparable from contemporary political, social, and cultural life. In the podcast we discussed various aspects of imperial and post-imperial memory from a famous street corner in Sarajevo, to Croatian literature to a largely forgotten Arctic expedition, and also put the coloniality and post-coloniality of the three empires – Habsburg, Ottoman, Romanov – under the microscope. To find out more about the Revenant project visit the website. Jeremy (jeremy.walton@ffri.uniri.hr), Kevin (kevin.kenjar@ffri.uniri.hr) and Matea (matea.magdic@ffri.uniri.hr) are also happy to hear from anyone interested in the project and in their own research topics. If you are interested in the documentary based on the project, please email Jeremy for the link. As part of the project, the 2024 Postcolonial, Decolonial, Postimperial, Deimperial conference was held in Rijeka. You can watch the keynotes by Maria Todorova here and by Madina Tlostanova here. Mo News visited the White House recently to get insight into the Trump agenda 60 days into the administration, including their messaging and approach to the media. The previous special included conversations with RFK Jr and a top White House policy official. This episode will include two additional conversations with two members of the White House communications team: First, Harrison Fields is the Special Assistant to the President and Principal Deputy Press Secretary. We talk about how he got into politics, SignalGate, and the Trump Administration's new car tariffs. Fields also worked for the first Trump Administration, and talks about how Trump 2.0 is different from Trump 1.0. Second, Alex Pfeiffer is the White House Deputy Communications Director. We talk about the Trump Administration's approach to the mainstream media, whether he thinks Republican support from young men will extend past President Trump, and Pfeiffer's own “media diet.” Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist.
