This is a delightful birth story episode. Today Heidi joins me to share the story of her vaginal birth. In her own words “Nothing went as planned for my birth but it was still beautiful.” Heidi endured many scares in her first trimester including an episode of heavy bleeding and alcohol exposure before she realized she was pregnant. She also discovered that she had something called a velamentous cord insertion which would go on to affect her birth. Despite the complications Heidi and her baby wound up healthy and happy. Imagine having a reunion three years post treatment with a son, mother, father, and one of the clinicians that helped this family through the addiction recovery process. Join hosts Christine and Rick Dixon as they unite Kael, LCSW, with the Nielson family, Sam, Heidi and Chris. Sam's struggle with addiction and choice to go into treatment brought the opportunity for his parents to also find help and healing for themselves. Listen to the unfolding of the Nielson's story and how codependency can sometimes play a bigger part in the cycle of addiction than is sometimes acknowledged or realized. Today Heidi and Chris are facilitating a family education group at Renaissance Ranch and are excited to be able to give back and help other families who are seeking help. It has been said that the foundation of recovery is spiritual and the solutions that worked for this family in finding long-term recovery bring hope and insights into the power of Step Two: Come to believe that the power of God can restore us to sanity.
