Neighbour says she heard unusual sounds at Clendon Park house

A woman living near an Auckland house where at least one body was removed yesterday, says she heard unusual sounds, before the police arrived. Two hearses left the property on Moncrieff Avenue in Clendon Park late in the afternoon. RNZ understands two adults and two children live at the house but the police are refusing to provide any detailed information - only saying they attended an incident. They erected a tent at the side of the driveway and forensic experts in white boiler suits scoured the grounds. A neighbour says she noticed something was going on at about nine or ten o'clock in the morning. The woman says about a year ago, the house was at the centre of a drugs bust but the current residents didn't live there at the time. Another neighbour, Ron Ferris says the people living at the house were pleasant, but kept to themselves.   Ferris says the police are keeping them in the dark about what's happened. Police guards remained at the house overnight and more information is expected today.

See Hear Podcast Episode 61 - Interview with Paul Elliott, director of "The Library Music Film"

Chances are very strong that some library tunes are amongst your favourites….and you may not even be aware of it. Library music has been used in TV, film or advertisements, and is written and performed before there is even a requirement for it….a soundtrack looking for a movie.   Welcome to episode 61 of See Hear Podcast.   Shawn Lee, Sean Lamberth and Paul Elliott felt that the composers whose music rocked their world had been hidden in the shadows way too long, so together, they made a wonderful new documentary called The Library Music Film. It highlights the composers, musicians, fans and record labels that were part of the golden age of library music. In their world, Jerry Goldsmith and Lalo Schifrin give way to Keith Mansfield, John Cameron and Alan Hawkshaw. If those names don’t come to your mind, their music is more than likely lodged in it.   Bernard, Tim and I were ecstatic to have director Paul Elliott join us to talk about the making of his film, library musicians, the fans and crate diggers who have played a large part in preserving the music and giving credit to the people who’d worked anonymously for years. We had a great old time putting names to tunes that had appeared in sports, comedy, kids and crime shows as well as a ton of other things (hip hop DJs have been sampling much of this music for years).   A huge thanks to Paul for his time (and solving a 40 year old mystery for me).   You can download the show by searching for See Hear podcast on iTunes, Spotify or Stitcher or you can download from http://seehear.podbean.com …..or whatever podcast app you favour.   The limited edition soundtrack pressing is sold out, but the film is available on DVD fromhttps://thelibrarymusicfilm.bandcamp.com/merch/the-library-music-film-dvd-pal-2 To dip your toe in the water, we’d also recommend a record or CD called Unusual Sounds on Anthology Recordings. Keep an eye on the film’s Facebook page to see if there will be a screening in your town – it’s definitely worth our time. (https://www.facebook.com/LibraryMusicFilm/)   If you dig what we do, could you please rate us at iTunes or even better, spread the word that the show exists on social media or at your next barbecue, gig, or marathon run so more folks can tune in.   Please join our friendly Facebook group at  http://www.facebook.com/groups/seehearpodcast   You can send us emails at seehearpodcast@gmail.com to suggest films you'd like us to discuss, give us your thoughts on what we do or anything else music-film related.

Episode #76: Unusual Sounds with David Hollander

Sorry for the delay, kids. A long weekend of snow, freelance deadlines, and making tamales pushed this episode back a couple of days. I'm also recording this after pulling every muscle in my right side, so expect some weirdness due to pain meds. That said, I'm excited about this episode. I spoke last month with author David Hollander, about Unusual Sounds: The Hidden History of Library Music, the book released last May by Anthology Editions. In my review for Starburst Magazine, I described the book thusly: "David Hollander has crafted a book which appeals to the reader interested in history, music, or visual arts. Most readers will approach it, thinking they know nothing of what the author is discussing, only to be amazed at just how much of the music discussed within the cover of Unusual Sounds is familiar to them." We had a great chat about the book, its companion album from Anthology Recordings, and Hollander's history with library music.
