Regis and Function's first mix in over 10 years is a unique paean to Silent Servant, heavy on unreleased material. When it came time for RA to compile our Albums of the 2010s, one record with a tauntingly limited availability of 500 copies was never in doubt: Sandwell District's era-defining 'Feed-Forward'. Encompassing Karl O'Connor (Regis), Peter Sutton (Female), David Sumner (Function) and Juan Mendez (Silent Servant), Sandwell District had the underground in a vice grip for over a decade. The collective imploded in 2013, with Sumner and O'Connor's relationship appearing beyond repair. And yet, an unlikely second phase is here, featuring imminent comeback LP 'End Beginnings' and their return to the RA Podcast after 16 years. In 2023, the trio of Function, Regis and Silent Servant had been performing and laying down new material before the latter's shock death last January. It's in the shadow of loss that this unique mix was forged. Founded in 2002 as a spiritual sister to seminal Downwards, Sandwell truly began to hit its straps in the late '00s, as shadow-stalking cuts sliced through clubland orthodoxy like a switchblade. In parallel, the label's artwork—a noir recombination of Burroughs cut-ups, DIY zines and arthouse amour that Silent Servant made his own—helped fortify a movement which placed an aesthetic premium on grit, grain and sadism. By the early 2010s, this fixation on the dark arts had utterly permeated the mood inside techno's masonic temples. Labels like Blackest Ever Black, Stroboscopic Artefacts, Avian and Modern Love were in their pomp, razorwire legends like Severed Heads and Chris & Cosey benefited from second winds, and it was briefly a jailable offence to not have a press photo in black and white. 'Feed-Forward' was the exceptional coronating statement. RA.978 features a stack of unheard recordings from each of the trio, as well as close allies Stefanie Parnow and Tropic of Cancer, while also gathering many of Silent Servant's all-time favourite songs, including Psychic TV, Grace Jones and Galaxie 500. It's a strikingly vulnerable listen, one without many parallels on the Podcast. We're glad to run it. Read more and find the tracklist here: ra.co/podcast/978

Today, I am going to talk with you about what I will refer to as ‘The Silent Servant' and after this section we will look at the idea of ‘The Sovereign Servant'.
Key Clef is a Berlin based, italian dj and producer with strong passion for analogue instruments, founder of the label Ipnotica Erotica. After experiencing the last years of the flourishing rave scene in Rome and accomplishing a degree in sound engineering her creative process evolved into different directions from club music, to performance art and electro acoustics. In 2013 she released her first digital EP followed by releases on Love Blast, KKY, MinimalRome, BlackWater, DelirioRec, Mitten and Undersound Rec. In her own world music is a continuous dialogue between styles and hybridization. During the pandemic she founded the ACXS collective, a new concept of collaboration between brand sponsorship and artists from the electronic scene through the creation of sample packs. The project includes artists such as Neel, Silent Servant, The Lady Machine, Drew Mcdowall and many others, forming a respectable roster. Her music productions as well her live performances include synth, drum machines and analogue effects reflecting her ethereal trajectory while her dj sets show the full prism of her music taste and knowledge of the dance floor. Key Clef sound doesn't hit the surface but instead aims to channel emotions and contact between her music and the audience. Isaiah 52:13-53:12 Sermon Notes:1) The Surprising Servant, 52:13-15 2) The Sorrowful Servant, 53:1-3 3) The Suffering Servant, 53:4-6 4) The Silent Servant, 7-9 5) The Substitutionary Servant, 53:10-12 Reflection Questions: 1) Was Jesus the kind of Savior that Israel expected? Why or why not? Consider what I Corinthians 1:17-31 says about our Savior and about His people. 2) Isaiah 53:6 says that we are all like wayward, stubborn sheep going our own way. Think of the last sin that you had to repent of. Can you see an element of lawlessness and rebellion that led to it? See also I John 3:4. 3) Consider the meaning of vv.10-11. How will the Servant make many to be righteous? Compare 2 Corinthians 5:21.

Listen in and watch Silent Servant's special DJ set – with visuals by Eva Aguila – created specially for dublab's 21st anniversary celebration.WATCH HERESilent Servant's prolific output as a producer and artist has laid the groundwork for much of the most ambitious and forward thinking electronic music of today. As a member of the now defunct Sandwell District, he helped force the hand of change with uncompromising ability. And still, he continues to do so with even greater strength and success. While insincerity remains the safety of many, Silent Servant's own productions are brutally honest and resolute, rendering irrelevant those mongering for light. Deeply pensive and forward thinking, his sound is marked by a distinct blend of the disparate and divergent. An appreciation of warehouse techno, industrial noise and post-punk are evident, yet challenged and reworked to form a uniquely modern style – a vitality so controlled and concentrated that it captivates immediately.dublab is a listener supported non profit radio station. Jay began DJing at ripe age of 16 and by 18 he was asked to be resident at Disco Nouveau, a long running underground club night in his hometown of Mullingar. Fast forward a couple of years and he was invited to be resident at Twelfth Planet until he decided to begin his own journey as an independent promoter. With a career spanning well over a deacde Jay has graced some of Irelands most iconic venues such as; Tripod, The Tivoli Theatre, The Twisted Pepper and more. The Twisted Pepper (now Wigwam) has been home to many of Jay's show's and provided cathartic techno experiences for many punters. Since 2013 Mutate Events has been focused on bringing quality techno to Dublin with such artists as; Jeroen Search, Roman Lindau, Lewis Fautzi, Stefan Vincent, Abstract Division, Tensal, Abdulla Rashim, Tripeo, Mama Snake, Volvox, Amotik, Jamaica Suk, Rune Bagge, Héctor Oaks, Silent Servant, UVB, Charlton, RIVET along with many, many more. You get the jist…Jay most definitely knows what he's at. Working alongside and garnering support from some of the longest running nights Ireland has to offer such as Jamie Behan's Bastardo Electrico, Subject, Life Festival & Research, he has given his all to promoting a vibrant underground scene for the capital. He has a bi-weekly radio show on Ireland's number one online radio station, alongside his residents, UNTHINK, Corner, Exit the Void & Niall Cleary on Dublin Digital Radio, where he showcases the best upcoming talent Ireland's techno scene has to offer. This mix offers a slice of what Jay is all about, an ensemble of techno of various sorts rolled into a warped two hour trip. Jay made a point of playing unreleased music from various Irish producers including Aero, Fyun, David O'neil, Offtrack and more. A smooth yet carnivorous trip around Jay's back catalogue leaves the listener on the edge of their seat, unsure of what gnarly turn the mix might take next. This is the techno equivalent of a page turner novel.

Juan Mendez (Silent Servant) joins us to discuss a major root in industrial sound — Cabaret Voltaire’s “The Voice of America.” Juan talks about the importance of this record in relation to his work as well as the entire landscape of industrial and experimental music. We also get into his history as Silent Servant, his work with Sandwell District and more. The damage is done and the messages have been received.

Chicago born @Antenes is a Brooklyn based synth obsessive. She builds her own modulars and then sets them to the future to cook up rough edged warehouse tracks that are gritty and bleakly atmospheric, as well as more textured, detailed ambient work. She has done installations at Moogfest as well as playing as far afield as China, Colombia and Japan, and has appeared on LIES, Silent Season, Bunker NY and Mord. She DJs as well as playing live, has roots in goth and industrial as well as noise from her early years playing guitar, but also has a real love of techno, electro and experimental. Her darkly absorbing mix for us this week includes tracks from Electric Indigo, Stephanie Merchak, Fjader, Oisel, Rrose, Lonefront, DJ ESP, Erica Mar, Wata Igarashi, Silent Servant, Ewa Justka, Bergsonist and Uun. It reflects her interest in a healthy amount of ominous dance hypnagogia while also drawing from a large pool of influences from the experimental to her roots in the Midwest. “The ESP track in there has some weird filtering and panning with the crunchy drums for example,” she says, “I love hearing how raw it is”.

Since the end of Sandwell District, Silent Servant has continued to be an influential presence in the techno world. The American’s Jealous God label defies convention and expectation with each release and his own avant guard productions remain utterly unique. Each one speaks to his roots—Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, The Cure—by fusing post punk and industrial with techno in chilling ways. His conceptual and sincere aesthetic carries over into his live sets, but also his DJ mixes. This latest one is special indeed: it is a mix of influences, in chronological order and “with only a few hiccups in dates” from 1972 to 2000 and all recorded on vinyl in one take. The resulting hour takes in plenty of those goth and alternative rock sounds, new wave, noise and experimental touchstones he grew up on in Los Angeles, but also seamlessly connects them to the techno that later influenced him so the likes of Kraftwerk, Neon, The Final Cut, Toddy Terry and Jeff Mills all make the cut. From stark and jerky rhythms early on to supple, strobe lit grooves in the second half, this is a personal mix that really tells the story of Silent Servant’s musical evolution.

We continue our Easter series in Isaiah 53 with a look at Jesus' silence during his trial and persecution.
The people of Jesus' day took the place of God and condemned their only Savior. But the Silent Servant took the place of the people and bought them with His life. Are you willing to be such a silent servant?
This time for the second hour, we welcome a very special guest. Timothy J. Fairplay is known not only for his mysterious tracks but also for Crimes Of The Future. 2013 saw the birth of a new, one of a kind musical imprint involving artists such as Black Merlin, Silent Servant, Perseus Traxx, Drvg Cvltvre and more. It is also easily recognised by their logo and their simple cover design. All that would not be possible without Mr. Fairplays enormous radiating energy and passion.
Do people feel important around you? How do people feel when they are in your presence? How do people feel when they leave your presence? Interesting questions. Do you edify, exhort and comfort? Do you build people up or do you tear them down? Do you give to them or do you take away? Are you part of the solution or part of the problem? Sermon notes

MARY VELO (Frozen Border / Semantica / Gynoid Audio / Coincidence Records / Fluxus) Originally from Toronto, Canada, Mary Velo got involved in music at an early age. It wasn’t till the 80’s where she discovered Depeche Mode and got attracted to deep & moody sounds. In 2007, Mary Velo moved to Berlin where she got strongly influenced in the Deep House & Techno scene. Produced with an edgy and catchy sound, Mary Velo’s tracks prove that she takes risks and pushes boundaries. Coming from a background of various music genres, her sound is usually unique and deep. Her latest release “Manhattan Project EP” which features a remix by Silent Servant was released in Aug 2013 on Frozen Border. This was her 2nd release on Frozen Border following up her hit track “Detune” from the “Minutes In Ice” compilation which also featured Blawan, AnD, & Dj Skirt. Detune was also featured in Sandwell District’s Fabric 69 mix on Fabric’s label. With a creditable discography which also includes releases on labels such as Semantica, Gynoid Audio & Coincidence, she has proven that hard work gets you somewhere. Her releases have gotten rave reviews from sites & magazines such as Resident Advisor, Groove, Fabric, FACT, Little White Earbuds, De:Bug, Juno, & Boomkat. Her tracks have also been played & charted by Silent Servant, Function, James Ruskin, Ben Sims, Rebekah, Brendon Moeller, Edit Select, Dominik Eulberg, Toby Tobias & ROD, which has brought Mary Velo to the list of new upcoming techno talents. Mary Velo has DJ’d across Europe in highly respected events & clubs including Tomorrowland 2013, Tresor, Berghain Kantine, Arena Club (Berlin, DE) and Nouveau Casino (Paris, FR). Currently, she is taking bookings for DJ & Live sets. Tracklist: 1. Nightbus - Chevel [Non Series] 2. Distracted - Ø [Phase] [Token] 3. Deceive Perform - Peter Van Hoesen [Tresor] 4. FR-pod067 - AUDIO INJECTION - TECHNO - http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/audioinjection - booking.freitag.recordings@gmail.com ║▌│█│║▌║││█║▌ ║▌│█│║▌║││█║▌ ║▌│█│║▌║││█║▌ ║▌│█│║▌║││█║ Since being introduced to electronic music back in the early 90's, Audio Injection has been hooked. At the early age of 15 he started Djing and playing out at local underground events and raves around the Southern California area. You would find him spinning various styles from house, acid, & techno to hardcore techno. After years of Djing he then decided to learn to produce his own music, which landed him releases on techno labels such as Monoid, Stimulus, & local label Droid Recordings. Since being associated with local event production group Droid Behavior in 2003, you can find him as a resident at the infamous Interface warehouse events as well as a regular producer for Droid Recordings along with Drumcell (Co-Founder of Droid Behavior). He has also played together with Drumcell at Berghain, Berlin in 2010 & 2011 as well as playing gigs in Athens, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Cologne, Wales, and various gigs throughout the U.S. and Mexico. In early 2011 Audio Injection started a project called 'Truncate' which focuses on the deeper, darker, and more raw side of techno. His Truncate releases have been getting support from big players such as, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Jonas Kopp, Chris Liebing, Speedy J, Dvs1, Luke Slater, Ben Sims, Silent Servant, Technasia, and many more. With releases & remixes on labels such as Droid, CLR, Electric Deluxe, Sleaze, BluFin, Enemy, Impact Mechanics, Ground Factory and many more, Audio Injection continues to shape his own sound as well as collaborate with Drumcell to release more mind bending techno, putting Los Angeles & Droid Recordings on the techno map. │█│║▌║││█║▌ ║▌│█│║▌║││█║▌ ║▌│█│║▌║││█║▌ ║▌│█│║▌║││█║▌ ★ PLAYLIST : 01.
