Hello, I am Randy Andrews, your host. this Episode is a day late and I apologize for that. This is the Fifth episode in a series of episodes for Star Trek This one is of course for Star Trek V The Final Frontier, Its considered the worst made Star Trek Film ever. We actually challenge that. Its better than people think. Eric Woods and I go into detail on the film and its background. We discuss the behind the scenes, the props , the models, the actual movement of a story that makes Star Trek, Star Trek. If you know, you know. This episode will involve discussing some of the trivia from IMDB curated and then discussing some of the liner notes from the deluxe edition of the score of the film. Then we will discuss some key music cues from the film and see how those affect us. Jerry Goldsmith pulled this score out and created an amazing wondrous piece of music that stands high on the films for Star Trek. Eric Woods as you know is a talented podcaster who runs Cinematic Sound Radio and I am a part of his podcasting network. There are several shows associated with the network. He has been doing the podcast or a form of it for over 25 years. He's a good friend from Kitchner Ontario Canada and is a great admirer of film scores. He also has a Patreon where you can join and share in the playlist and the exclusive shows only to Patreons With the show we discuss points on the film and background on the production of the movie. After that we go into the cues from the film, some we will do a selection of two to three cues per section and we discuss background on the different selections Then we promote our shows The theme for Soundtrack Alley is composed by Alexander Schiebel and you can find his work at www.xanderscores.com Please check out my website www.soundtrackalley.com follow the podcast through your favorite podcasting app. Follow for more info through my social pages www.instagram.com/soundtrackalley www.x.com/soundtrackalley www.facebook.com/soundtrackalley

Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
Welcome to Cinematic Sound Radio's celebration of the 35th anniversary of Film Score Monthly. In 1990, a young film music fan named Lukas Kendall began what was to become Film Score Monthly with a Xeroxed newsletter sent to a handful of fans who signed up to receive the snail mail newsletter. From there, the newsletter turned into one of the biggest soundtrack publications in the world. The magazine's run ended in 2005 at 150 issues. It ceased printing due to budgetary reasons. The magazine, however, still lives on in the digital world as FSM On-Line. A byproduct of the magazine was a record label, which began in 1998 with the release of Jerry Goldsmith's STAGECOACH / THE LONER. Lukas would go onto produce 250 FSM CDs, many of them long-sought-after "holy grails." The label would cease production in 2013. The website and popular message board are still running, but are in desperate need of updating. That's where you come in. Lukas is currently raising money on Kickstarter to help fund a brand-new website, message board, book, CD and more! As of the release of this episode on June 20th, 2025, the Kickstarter has reached its initial goal of $25,000 and is currently in its stretch run to raise an additional $25,000. If you've already pledged, thank you, but if you haven't, then please head over to the Kickstarter by CLICKING HERE and donate what you can to help keep this film music institution running smoothly for the next 35 years! To celebrate FSM's 35 years, I'm going to play for you my top five favourite Film Score Monthly CDs of all time, featuring the music of Franz Waxman, Bronislau Kaper, Johnny Green, Stu Phillips, Elmer Bernstein, Alexander Courage and Jerry Goldsmith. Quais trilhas mereciam a estatueta? Tudo isso nesta segunda e última parte.
On Episode 135 of The Film '89 Podcast, Neil, Skye and Steve celebrate the 35th anniversary of yet another Arnold Schwarzenegger film, this time it's the 1990 action-science-fiction classic, Total Recall. Following on from the recent success of our Commando episode, the guys are once again giving their in-depth analysis of a film starring one of the Film '89 team's favourite movie stars, but this time, they're also discussing one of their favourite directors, Dutch filmmaker Paul Verhoeven. They discuss the source short story by Philip K. Dick upon which Total Recall is based as well as the making of this big budget special effects spectacle - at the time, one of the most expensive films ever made. The guys also dissect the film's fiendishly complex plot and the many themes, layers and socio-political commentary that Verhoeven weaves into the film. Featuring a superb supporting cast including Sharon Stone, Rachel Ticotin, Michael Ironside and Ronny Cox, an incredible score by Jerry Goldsmith and incredible special effects that hold up 35 years on, Total Recall is a timeless classic and is given the usual Film '89 treatment.

Today You'll hear as Eric Woods and I discuss the film Star Trek The Motion Picture. this episode will involve discussing some of the trivia from IMDB curated and then discussing some of the liner notes from the deluxe edition of the score of the film. Then we will discuss some key music cues from the film and see how those affect us or even show the brilliance of Jerry Goldsmith's fantastic score. With the show we discuss points on the film and background on the production of the movie. All the actors are key to elements to the production of the movie even though it was a financial loss at the time. The score however is the best thing that happened for that film. It's quintessential Arnold! What a way to kick off the 1990s - with a futuristic, Paul Verhoeven-directed beauty with old school practical effects on full display. Luke & Corrye have a riot on the rewatch, as the Chumps visit Mars, poke fun at Michael Ironside, and cringe in pain recalling the tracking device removal scene. PLUS: remembering a game-changing screenwriter who never got his due. AND: weighing in on the internet question of the month: who wins in a gorilla vs. 100 men battle?

Tony from Hack The Movies joins our fellowship to restore the balance of light and dark! Is the director's cut of Legend the best version of Ridley Scott's cult classic?
For the Memories of a Lifetime.....In the Year 2084, Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a mild-mannered construction worker just living the simple life with his loving wife Lori (Sharon Stone). All seems well and normal, except he's been having these dreams.....about going to Mars, where apparently his eyes can get sucked out of his head if he tries to breathe freely on the surface?? :o Maybe they're not dreams, maybe he has been to Mars....and when he visits a local travel agency (sort of) named Rekall to get memories implanted about a possible trip to Mars, something happens. People start trying to kill him...and worse, all is not what it seems. And what results is a wild, bloody adventure where Quaid not only goes to Mars but gets involved in an increasingly violent effort to fend off an oppressive corporate lead by Cohaagen (Ronny Cox) to exploit the population of settlers there by depriving them of air. Loosely based on a science fiction novel by Phillip K. Dick (Minority Report) and directed by legendary Paul Verhoeven (Basic Instinct, Robocop), this lavish sci-fi action adventure became an instant phenomenon when it was first released thirty-five years ago this June. Which leaves only one thing left to do....Get Your Ass to Mars!!!!Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Dana and Tom with 5x Club member, Sara Shea (Host and Creator of Shea Cinema; @sheacinema on X, IG) discuss the Best Picture winner of 1970, Patton: directed by Franklin J. Schaffner, written by Francis Ford Coppola and Edward H. North, cinematography by Fred J. Koenekamp, music by Jerry Goldsmith, starring George C. Scott, Karl Malden, and Edward Binns.Plot Summary: A sweeping and complex portrait of a man consumed by ambition, Patton charges through history with ferocity and contradictions, a gladiator on the modern battlefield. In the chaos and grandeur of World War II, Patton's genius and ego collide, alienating allies and enthralling enemies. Hero and antihero, the film unveils his brutal poetry of war, a relentless quest for glory at any cost—and the haunting question of whether he is made for, or destroyed by, the brutal theater of combat.Guest:Sara SheaHost and Creator of Shea Cinema; @sheacinema on X, IGPreviously on 12 Angry Men (1957) Revisit, Barry Lyndon (1975), Shampoo (1975), 2025 Post Oscars Reaction ShowChapters:00:00 Introduction and Welcome Back Sara Shea05:19 Cast and Background for Patton09:01 Relationship(s) with Patton15:30 Dana, Why Do You Love This Movie?18:34 Welcome to the Resistance27:51 What is Patton About?31:46 Plot Summary for Patton32:35 Did You Know?36:48 First Break37:36 What's Up with Sara Shea?40:01 Best Performance(s)51:23 Best/Favorite/Indelible Scene(s)01:01:28 Second Break01:02:09 In Memoriam01:03:11 Best/Funniest Lines01:13:38 The Stanley Rubric - Legacy01:18:18 The Stanley Rubric - Impact/Significance01:24:39 The Stanley Rubric - Novelty01:33:10 The Stanley Rubric - Classicness01:40:27 The Stanley Rubric - Rewatchability01:45:32 The Stanley Rubric - Audience Score and Final Total01:47:26 Remaining Questions for Patton01:49:31 A Thank You to Sara and Final Thoughts01:54:54 CreditsYou can also find this episode in full video on YouTube. You can now follow us on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, or TikTok (@gmoatpodcast).For more on the episode, go to:
Belated sequels to monumental, genre-defining classics always walk on a knife edge! They can be a worthwhile elaboration upon the original, recontextualised for a new era, or they can be cynical cashgrabs forever consigned as a footnote to cinema history. Australian director Richard Franklin's Psycho II (1983) benefits from returning cast members Vera Miles and, of course, Anthony Perkins, a twisty turny psychological mystery script from Fright Night's Tom Holland, a disturbing score from Jerry Goldsmith and cinematography from John Carpenter regular Dean Cundey. But is it just a pretender in a classic movie's clothes? Or should it be released from custody to set up a new franchise? Find out! What's up, dudes? “Gremlins” is a classic holiday horror, made better by Jerry Goldsmith's score and the killer hits of Michael Sembello and Peter Gabriel. Kevin Williams from ‘Tis the Soundtrack joins me to really dig into a couple of cues from the “Gremlins” score and dish about music theory of it all as well.We first get into the mega madness with the Sembello track. Played during the bar scene, the uptempo dance song set the stage for the “Maniac”-like antics of the dancing green creature. The film also features a track by Quarterflash and Darlene Love's epically classic “Christmas.”Goldsmith's penchant for atonality shines forth in the frantic cue ‘No Santa Claus.' The Stravinsky-esque eighths are composed of dueling tritones E-Bb and D-Ab and immediately transition to alternating bars of 5/8 and 7/8. Subsequently, all this segues quite nicely into held sonorities overlaid with “Silent Night” as Kate begins her tale of holiday woe. Talk about harmonization!Altered mystic chord? Check. Catchy mogwai theme? Got it. Synthesizer? Yes, but only if there's 7 different types! So grab your Roland Jupiter-6, join the orchestra, and play along to this episode all about the “Gremlins” score and soundtrack!‘Tis the SoundtrackYouTube: @TisTheSoundtrackIG: @tisthesoundtrackNicolas Delage solving the mystery of Gizmo's voice!Be sure to check out the brilliant publication of Goldsmith's work by Chris Siddall, which made this analysis possible. Dr. Olivia Cacchione, a musicologist, sat with Patrick in the parlor to discuss her current work and study of music and sound in Victorian seances. Olivia also shared about years of uncomfortable out-of-body experiences and hearing voices that led to her being diagnosed with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. Plus skepticism, haunted listening, enchantment, possibility vs. disbelief, Victorians and the accordion, the channeled music of Rosemary Brown, and asking the question, “How does music haunt us?” Visit BigSeance.com/257 for more info. Other Listening Options Direct Download Link In this episode: Intro :00 Dr. Olivia Cacchione studies the sounds of ghosts and hauntings throughout history. She's a musicologist who earned her PhD at Northwestern University and received a Mellon Fellowship to conduct her extensive archival research across England and America. She is currently working on a book that highlights the role of music and sound in Victorian seances. Olivia's dissertation examined the cultural history of hearing, questioning how music haunts us, with an emphasis on the lived experience of the Victorian-era spiritualist séance. She covered Daniel Dunglas Home's accordion, the Davenport Brothers' musical cabinet, and lesser known mediums like Jennie Lord, who practically invented the musical seance. And Olivia wants you to know that she has a cat who is proudly named Madame Blavatsky. You can learn more about Olivia Cacchione and her work by visiting welcometotheseance.com. :45 What is a musicologist? 2:02 From harp performance to a PhD in musicology. 3:44 Patrick once again nerds out about the theremin. 6:12 More on where this interest in Victorian Spiritualism came from, and the pushback from her colleagues regarding her chosen area of study. 7:32 Hearing Voices. “When I was 15, I began ‘hearing things.' It took me ten years to receive a diagnosis of Temporal Lobe Epilepsy.” 10:51 Olivia's voices and out-of-body experiences. Are they paranormal? Or are they just symptoms of her diagnosis? 15:24 Enchantment. 16:45 “[The episodes were] very dark and quite scary, actually.” 18:05 Possibility vs Disbelief. 19:03 Victorian Spiritualists and Seances. For Victorians, it was really dark at night! 21:49 Haunted Listening. 27:56 Patrick reminisces about experiences years ago with his “rapper” from doing EVP research and experiments. 29:28 “How does music haunt us? What does it mean to be haunted, mesmerized, enchanted, or spellbound by a work?” 32:24 Check out Jerry Goldsmith's score for the 1985 film, The Explorers. 35:40 “[Victorians] simply had a different relationship with music.” 39:09 Music as a trigger. 41:11 Victorians and the accordion. 42:47 Residual music from the Bird Cage Theatre. 43:57 A Musical Seance featuring Rosemary Brown, who claimed to channel music from the great composers. 46:01 Alfred Russel Wallace. 48:28 “Before I was diagnosed, I absolutely thought, 'Maybe I'm psychic.' I wanted to lean in that direction with it.” 50:07 “People hear what I'm studying and they immediately want to tell me their own ghost stories.
