True Faith: Trusting in God's Plan 'But If Not'. ACU Sunday Series. The Most Inspiring General Conference Talk on Faith You'll Ever Hear! True Faith: Trusting in God's Plan 'But If Not' In this inspirational video, Elder Dennis E. Simmons reflects on his youthful misunderstanding of faith through a story from his eighth-grade basketball tournament. He emphasizes that true faith is more than wishful thinking—it's a deep trust in Jesus Christ. Using the biblical story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Elder Simmons illustrates how true faith means trusting God even when outcomes don't align with our desires. He explores how figures such as Abraham, Daniel, and Paul displayed unwavering faith under trials, demonstrating that great challenges can cultivate greater spiritual strength. The address underlines that the world is a test of faith, administered by a loving Heavenly Father, and highlights the importance of maintaining faith in God's plan, even amidst suffering and uncertainty. And what to do when it shows up Here's the sequence: Unmet needs lead to disappointment. Disappointment gives rise to grief. Unresolved grief turns into resentment. Holding onto resentment creates anger. Welcome to Earth. Welcome to being a human. There is a 100% likelihood that to varying degrees, we will all feel unseen, unheard, or not loved in ways that we want to be loved. When we're children, we aren't able to fully process not having our needs met. The implicit grief registers in our energy field and we haul it around until we're mature enough to process it on our own or until we can afford therapy, whichever comes first. If we don't treat our grief with compassion, it thickens into resentment over time. Resentment is one of the root causes of cynicism and doubt. Resentment often causes us to hoard resources out of fear. Resentment is a huge obstacle to abundance. Holding onto our unmet needs perpetuates not having our needs met in the present. It becomes this vicious cycle of chasing and not receiving. If you fight your anger, it will fight you right back. Your anger is looking to be seen, to be heard, to be loved. Bless it, and it will stop acting out. What we embrace transforms and makes us more loving. Listen in. Then we're doing the Centering Practice together. We'll work with the full spectrum of colour. Have you felt yourself revert back to a child in the way you react to your kids, or a particular situation?Watching from the sideline, Josh recently had a moment where his inner child wounds collided with the reality of the his son's experience on the soccer field. When we come face-to-face with the dissonance between the way we REACT, and the way we want to ACT, something deeper is often at play. Becoming mindful of those moments, and how we respond to them, influences what we pass onto our kids. In this episode, Josh & Christi talk about how to identify an unhealed inner child “part” of yourself, give examples of redeemed and unhealed epigenetic transmission, and provide a beautiful example of how Jesus meets us right where we are. When life doesn't turn out the way we hoped, what do we do with the disappointment? It's easy to become bitter, discouraged, or even begin to question God. But what if disappointment isn't the end of the story? In Mark 14:26–42, Pastor Dustin Aagaard walks through Jesus' moment in the Garden of Gethsemane, where even Jesus experienced deep sorrow and disappointment. His closest friends fell asleep when He asked them to pray, and the weight of what was ahead pressed heavily on Him. Yet in that moment, Jesus models something powerful: honesty with the Father, closeness to God in the middle of pain, and radical surrender to God's will. Disappointment doesn't have to define you. Instead, it can become a signal that draws you closer to God. When we bring our hurt, questions, and unmet expectations to the Father, He can transform disappointment into deeper faith, stronger trust, and lasting hope.
Hi mama, As I reached episode 300 of Mom Wife Career Life I found myself reflecting on the past three years of balancing corporate work, motherhood, and building this podcast. I'm proud to say that through job changes, stress, parenting, and life's ups and downs, I've never missed a week of releasing an episode. But hitting this milestone also brought an unexpected feeling… Disappointment. Because if I'm being honest, I thought life would look a little different by now. In this episode, I share the reality of the past year… including a health scare, anxiety, grief, tragedy in my community, and the emotional rollercoaster of preparing to send my oldest daughter to college. Through it all, my priorities have shifted. Right now they look like: Protecting my health • Being present with my family • Soaking up every moment of having all three of my kids under the same roof Because sometimes growth isn't loud. Sometimes it looks like rest… letting go of timelines… protecting your peace… and showing up for what matters most. If you've ever thought, “I thought I'd be further by now,” please know this: You're not behind. You're becoming. John Clancy – talks from the story of king David and the ark of the covenant
What keeps a relationship alive after disappointment? The Torah's most important relationship—between God and the Jewish people—nearly collapses at the Golden Calf. Yet strangely, it becomes deeper afterward. The Book of Exodus begins with one kind of relationship between God and the Jewish people—and ends with another. After the catastrophe of the Golden Calf, the original relationship of command, obedience, and punishment breaks down. In its place emerges something deeper: a relationship sustained by loyalty, patience, and love, even after disappointment. The Torah suggests that this is the foundation of every enduring relationship. We will sometimes fail each other. We will sometimes struggle to understand each other. Yet love grows precisely when we remain committed on the other side of disappointment. As Paul Weinfeld wrote: “True love begins on the other side of disappointment.” What might it mean to stay committed on the other side of disappointment? Ready to tackle one of the most confusing topics on your body image journey? In this episode - Logan is very inconvenient, we discuss the most important topics, Michael never learns, there's some more weird green screening, we explain why there was no-one near the plaza, Hadewych has the right idea, we make some wildly accurate Renaissamce jokes, there's some inadvertent preparation, we realise we don't need to do Australia 6 anymore, Nature's Pockets bring back bad memories, Tim is a disappointment, Logan locks in his penultimate set of suspects and Bindles has a big tease for next week. Thank you for listening - we will see you next week for the finale! Please note: This season is intended on being spoiler-free, so please watch the episodes along with us. As with our coverage of Seasons 9, 11, 14, 16 & 17, there are no spoilers due to Logan not having seen the season before. However, any season we have already covered (WIDM 9-11, 14, 16-25 and Renaissance; België 4-13) is fair game though. This episode is supported by our friends over at Zencastr. This week felt heavy, not catastrophic, not dramatic, just layered. I'm sharing about our recent surrogate embryo transfer and finding out it didn't take. Even when you know the statistics, hope quietly builds a future in the back of your mind, and each time that future dissolves, the grief is real. I talk about what it feels like to move through disappointment when your life is objectively full and beautiful, and how gratitude and grief can sit side by side without canceling each other out. I also get into the complicated tension of ambition and motherhood. Missing a camping trip with Sonny and Timmy. Launching new projects. Turning 41. Wondering how I want to be remembered - as ambitious, present, steady, joyful? Can you be all of them at once? This episode is really about capacity and how much we can hold. Absence and abundance. Career momentum and family tenderness. Disappointment and deep gratitude. Maybe adulthood isn't about resolving the contradictions. Maybe it's about becoming spacious enough to carry them. In this episode, Heather and Nicole explore unexpected business and life lessons drawn from an unexpected source: Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. Whether you're a fan or not, there's no denying the mindset, resilience, creativity, and leadership required to build something at that scale. Key Takeaways (Bullet Points) Everyone sees the success — no one sees the sacrifice. Hard work, preparation, and consistency are often invisible but always required. Overdeliver and focus on service. Long-term loyalty is built by exceeding expectations and prioritizing the client experience. Stay humble and human. No matter your level of success, leadership is about collaboration and respect. Protect your energy. Think of your attention and emotional bandwidth as expensive — not everyone gets access. What others think about you isn't your business. You cannot build boldly if you're constantly managing other people's opinions. Disappointment can become leverage. What feels like a setback may be positioning you for a smarter, more powerful move. Just because something hasn't been done before doesn't mean it can't work. Innovation often looks unrealistic until someone proves otherwise. If you've chosen a creative profession, you've already chosen courage. Many people will question your path — your job is to stay committed to it. This episode is a reminder that resilience, creativity, and identity-level self-trust are what truly sustain long-term success — not just strategy. Finding a balance between career and creativity. Have you ever built a "successful" career only to realize it was draining the very creativity you intended to nurture? Artist Emily-Jane Sarroff spent a decade navigating the worlds of architecture and high-level business consulting before realizing that her most important work was the art she made for herself. Emily-Jane shares her journey of deconstructing the "societal programming" that linked her worth to her career and explains why she recently pivoted to real estate to provide her nervous system the safety it needed to create again. In this episode, we discuss:The "Disappointment" Narrative: How the internal pressure to succeed led Emily-Jane away from her creative roots after high school. The Architecture Trap: Why a "creative" degree can sometimes feel more technical than expressive, and the brave decision to "leap" away from a career that wasn't fuelling her soul.Choosing Self over Scale: Why Emily-Jane closed a successful, six-figure business to stop "proving herself" and start living from a heart space.“Weird and Woo Woo” Art: A look into Emily-Jane's spiritual, abstract style and why she prioritizes creating for her own healing and expression rather than for commissions.Practical Creativity: How to set up a permanent art space (even in a garage corner!) and the importance of scheduling “buffer zones” to transition your brain from logical work to creative flow. You might also like:Rediscovering the Inner Artist with Kerry LyonsPeonies, Paint and Personal Growth with Sally Jean FoxSociety, Stereotypes and Sparkle with Jessie ElliottClick here to buy Samantha EJ Button's poetry collection Not Wholesome Content I would love some financial support to help me to keep making this podcast. Betrayal. Disillusionment. Survival. Before we condemn Judas, we might first need to admit how often faith turns transactional in our own hearts. Perhaps we have more in common with Judas than we previously thought. That’s what Revs. Hannah and Brittany discuss in this episode of our Lenten Series: The People of the Passion. They reflect on Matthew 26:14-16, 47-50 and the story of Judas … not as a cartoon villain, but as a mirror of our own hearts. They ask: Why did Judas betray Jesus? Was it really about money? Or unmet expectations? Disappointment? Survival within a broken system? We will all make mistakes, we all sometimes turn down the wrong path, so perhaps Judas’ story is more about the hope available to us all instead of the story of a villain. Join the female pastors of First UMC of San Diego as they explore: The tension between relationship and convenience The link between unmet expectations and resentment Emotional distancing as self-protection How systems enable betrayal Why Judas may represent something deeply human in all of us Judas isn’t just “the betrayer.” He is a disciple, a friend, and someone invited to the table — even knowing what he would do. And that might be the most hopeful part of the story. Continue the conversation by reflecting with someone you trust or connecting with the Perspectives community online through Patreon and in person at the weekly Convergence Discussion Group. Reflection questions for Lent: Where have I reduced devotion to a transaction? Where do I quietly distance myself from friends in order to protect my resources? What expectations do you need to shift or let go of to follow Jesus? Limited on time? Jump ahead to these pivotal moments. Timestamps 00:00 Opening Reflection: “Before we condemn the betrayer …” 01:07 Scripture Reading of Matthew 26:14-16, 47-50 04:10 Relationship vs. Money – Is Faith Transactional? 06:35 Betraying Jesus… and Ourselves 07:52 Systems, Power, and Institutional Betrayal 10:09 “Friend” – Emotional Distance in the Garden 15:51 When Expectations Turn Into Resentment 18:10 The System Behind the Betrayal 19:16 The Open Table – Grace for Judas (and Us) 22:02 Lenten Reflection Questions & Closing
