Quarantine fatigue is REAL! (That doesn't mean we're running back outside without protection though) In regards to public education - Quarantining as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated the inequities that exist within the public school system. Plus, we self-asses; how well do we think we've been navigating the needs of our marginalized students? Then. we welcome our special guest Christian Lopez. Christian is a seven year veteran educator. He spent his first five years teaching in Orlando, and the past two years in instructing in the Metro Atlanta area. Each of his stops have been at Title 1 schools with high populations of Latinx students. His current school has a high population of recent immigrants from Central America. Christian specializes in Algebra 1 and other levels of middle school math. One of his biggest strengths is adapting to reach the needs of his ESOL students. Christian shares with us his insight on what successful distance learning looks like to him. Plus, he his tells story of "Why" he became an educator. Then, he provides some insight on the steps he has taken to make his lessons accessible and equitable to all students during distance learning, and what it takes to engage ESOL learners.
