Bethel Worship Center - Camden, SC

We are encouraged to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with those we know. Be a friend, tell a friend; don't keep Jesus to yourself.

The author of Hebrews moves from the account of Moses' parents faith to the account of Moses' faith. What God did through Moses is a picture of what Christ would do for all mankind, and Moses' response by faith should be our response to what Christ has done. By faith we can confront what has us bound so that we can move forward with Christ.

We move next to the faith of Moses' parents. Yep, before there was the faith of Moses, there was the faith of his parents. Amram and Jochebed show us that by faith we can cultivate what God's given us even in difficult situations, and by faith we can release that gift to see God do something through it greater than what we could do on our own.

In this podcast episode Pastor Javin and Matt dive deeper into weeks 4-6 of our By Faith series. They discuss more the man Enoch who we have little information about. They share how Enoch's brief story is very encouraging to us as followers of Christ, while also looking at a very interesting fact about Enoch's son's name - Methuselah - and how his name played into Noah's account. They discuss the crazy obedience of Noah and Abraham, how their obedience brings us back to our original call, and how their obedience is a picture of complete surrender. Matt and Javin both share a story of how they had to surrender what they believe God had given them and just trust him with the outcome. They also laughed more about the truly untrue story of Matt's ornithology class.

The average person in America spends 49 hours a week on a screen. In Bible reading/study individually and with others it's anywhere from 2-5 hours a week. What's shaping how we see things in culture? This thought is introduced in this video. We don't know the consistency, but periodically, pastorally, we will speak in this format to our body in regards to things we see in culture, and try to make sure the main lens we are looking through is the word of God.

After Abraham trusted God by faith to move to an unfamiliar area, he trusted God to give him a son. There was some doubt along the way, but his trust to see the promise of a child through him and Sarah was revealed. While walking in that blessing, Abraham had to go through another test of faith that the author of Hebrews points to. As we explore this account we learn that by grace through faith we receive this blessing and by faith we proclaim this blessing to others. By faith we completely depend on him. By faith we trust the provider and surrender to his plan.

The next leg of the journey takes us to the faith of Noah, Abraham and Sarah. Here we see individuals who learned to trust God and obey Him despite not having all the details and full understanding. Like these individuals, by faith we can believe God's word despite what we see or don't see or what we feel or don't feel, we can fear God over other people's opinions, obey God over our own arguments, and trust God's bigger plan.

Ever heard of Enoch before? Enoch has a total of 3 verses in Genesis 5 that are mentioned in a genealogy. The most description we have regarding him is that he walked with God. Yet this is enough to get him listed in Hebrews 11 “hall of faith.” As we explore more details from Enoch's genealogy and the context of his life we can see a strong statement about Enoch that encourages our faith - a life of faith is one that is set apart from the world around it, testifies boldly to the gospel, and is defined by walking with God.

In this podcast episode Pastor Javin and Matt dive deeper into weeks 1-3 of By Faith. They talk about what faith is and how it bridges the gap between what's unexplainable and what's undeniable. They dive even more into the beauty of believing in creation happening at the hands of our creator and how this should strengthen our faith. Lastly they explore how our faith moves us to give something of ourselves and how Cain's lesson is even more griping than we may have expressed in the message. You can find the full series here on our youtube channel or by going to bwccamden.com/weekend-messages/by-faith

Hebrews 11:4 takes us to the account of Cain and Abel. We shift our faith from being in what God has done for us through creation to our faith now being what we as his creation can do for him. God told Cain that Abel's blood was crying out from the ground to him. The author of Hebrews tells us that Abel's blood is still speaking a message. We learn from Cain and Abel that by faith we can give God the best of our time, talent and treasures, not just what's left and/or convenient.

This week the author of Hebrews next example of faith goes to creation. We see it in Hebrews 11:3 where he says, "By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God's command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen." https://www.bible.com/bible/116/HEB.11.3 It's interesting that he states that by faith we understand. Faith in Jesus Christ gives us the ability to understand that the world began by the word of God and we have the opportunity to still speak his word by faith to bring order to chaos. The opening video heard is a debate with Dr Kent Hovind and Richard Shleiter. If you search YouTube for Kent Hovid where did God come from you will find multiple places to watch this video.

As we jump into 2026 we're going to explore what it means to live by faith. The author of Hebrews makes a statement that says “It is impossible to please God without faith.” What does that mean? Our prayer is that as we go through this series, and explore what's become known as the great hall of faith in Hebrews 11, we will come to an understanding of the reality of and the power of our faith in Christ Jesus. This week we see what faith is and that we don't have to check our brains at the door when it comes to having faith in Christ. We'll also see that unwavering faith in a supernatural God is what keeps hope alive.

As we end 2025 and get ready to shift into 2026, Pastor Javin shares this special online message with us about the idea of starting small. During this year in our hometown, there was an incident that happened that reminds us of a truth from God's word. That truth is that God can take the rubble of our life and do amazing things through it. Don't despise the day of small beginnings in your life and through your life. Just take a step of faith with Christ through the power of His Spirit and begin.

The prophet Isaiah spoke a prophecy some 700 years before the birth of Christ that child would be born who would be a wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father and Prince of peace. That child would be a light that shines into the darkness. Jesus is the promise kept from God. He is the light of the world and everything rests on his shoulders. As followers of Christ, we are called to shine the light of Christ to the world around us.

In this podcast episode Pastor Javin and Matt dive deeper into weeks 5-7 of the Philippians series that focused on Philippians chapters 3-4. The discussion looks more at our perspective in life regarding physical and spiritual things, the empathy we have for those who struggle with anxiety and depression, more encouragement for those who do battle with these, sharing our faith in a way that is relatable to others and the generosity that God has called us to.

God kept his promises and revealed his promises through Jesus Christ. In this series we will look at one we can learn from those who waited on the fulfillment of the promise and how we can apply those lessons in our seasons of waiting. We'll also see how we can be a part of shining the light of the promises fulfilled in Christ. Advent season is a season of waiting. In Luke 2 we meet a man by the name of Simeon and a woman named Anna who teach us about waiting on the promises of God. As they waiting in that first advent we wait for Christ's second advent. In the middle of that waiting are seasons of waiting and Simeon and Anna teach us that in all of it we can wait actively, gratefully and expectantly with an open mind, not for the answer we want, but for the one in whom every promise is yes and amen.

On this Sunday we had Pastor Don Goude with us to share God's word. Pastor Don was the Lead Pastor of Bethel for 25 years before he retired in 2010. In this message he shares with us the very purpose for which Jesus was born and that purpose was the cross. The cross did not come cheaply and what Christ did through the cross deserves our all.

As we get to the close of Paul's letter to the Philippians we see him wrap everything up around contentment in Christ. This is where we draw a close to our study and it's here we see that joy and peace is expressed in contentment and godly ambition not in discontented selfish ambition.

Paul starts concluding his letter to the church of Philippi with a very powerful statement around a very current issue so many battle, and that's anxiety. Paul could be taken as insensitive, but that's not what Paul's being. Paul is sensitive to the Spirit and knows we have an enemy that wants to divide an individual's mind the same way he wants to divide the body of Christ. In this section we see that joy and peace is produced through prayer and the Holy Spirit, not through our own strength.

As we enter chapter 3 of Philippians we see Paul's famous resume, but his resume isn't shared to try to sell himself to others. Paul shares his resume to make a point that what he had made of himself was of no comparison to who he had become in Christ. In this section from Paul's letter we see that joy and peace is rooted in what we've gained in Christ, not in what we've lost of ourselves.

Pastor Javin and Matt talk more about the first 2 chapters of Philippians and the first 4 weeks of our Philippians series. Their discussions dive deeper into connecting with people around our faith (sharing our faith and growing our faith), being burned by the church, burnout in the church, things that keep us from celebrating the spread of the gospel, and more.

Within Philippians 1 & 2 lies one of Paul's famous lines - “for to me to live is Christ, to die is gain.” He goes on from that statement to describe what to live for Christ looks like and why even in the face of death he can rejoice. From this we can see that joy and peace is rooted in Christ's righteousness not in the temporal, and they're expressed in faith not fear.

Paul continues his dialogue around the importance of unity in the body for the advancement of the gospel. He expresses a boldness and freedom in Christ that allows him to say “for me to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Paul shows us that joy and peace is expressed in selflessness not selfishness.

As we continue along in the first chapter of Philippians we see how much Paul loves those he is partnered together with for the gospel of Jesus Christ. He expresses his gratitude for them and prays for them. Paul shows us that joy and peace is expressed in connection not isolation; where we learn to grow and go with united purpose for the gospel.

The church of Philippi got a unique start with a unique group of people, but Paul's writing to the Philippians doesn't just carry truth unique to the them, it still relates to God's church today. In the first few sentences of Paul's letter we see some of the byproducts of grace. The grace of Christ not only gives us salvation but it gives us new life in Him. Purpose, holiness, unity, peace and joy are some of the byproducts of Christ's grace.

Pastor Javin and Matt discuss the most recent series done here at Bethel on Paul's letters to the Thessalonians. They talk deeper about the importance of making things in our faith customs that we do, and Pastor Javin describes his "custom" in regards to studying God's word in his personal life and for sermons. They talk more about knowing God's word, trusting in and seeking more of the Holy Spirit, how Christ changed the meaning of death, being busy at work for the Kingdom personally and with the body of Christ, as well as salvation and how we should be relationally with those who may not be covered by Christ's grace.

Paul brings a strong conclusion to both of his letters to the Thessalonians. In these conclusions he's showing how we are to live our faith out until Christ returns. We have a purpose in the present and that purpose is to live for the Kingdom of God.

Paul continues in his letters to the Thessalonians to encourage his listeners around the return of Christ. Christ will return. We don't know when but we know he will. Until then we stand on the truth of God, reflect the values of his Kingdom and invite others to know Christ.

Pastor Javin and Chuck dive deeper into his message that he spoke as our guest speaker. They discuss more about hearing from God, knowing when it's God directing us, self-control, Bible study tactics, tornadoes in Oklahoma among other things.

Paul begins to explain to the Thessalonians what death looks like when we are in Christ. When you look over the scope of much of Paul's writings he reiterates these lessons. Paul wants his listeners to know that death is not something we have to fear as followers of Christ and grief does not rob us of hope.

This Sunday we had a special guest, Pastor Chuck Barrineau. Chuck is a friend of Pastor Javin's and he leads a church out in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Chuck has been preaching since he was 15 years old and is married with 3 kids. In this message, Chuck spoke vulnerably about how God had to help him in recent years through something that is probably very relatable for many of us.

Paul told the church in Thessalonica that he was encouraged how they received the words they spoke as the word of God in the power of the Holy Spirit. Let us be a church, let us be followers of Christ, that live our lives standing firm in the truth of the word and living in the power of His Spirit.

Pastor Javin and Pastor Caleb dig a little more into the Family Values series to discuss primarily our individual family units. We discuss the importance of parents and guardians setting the tone in the home, of how we can focus on connection while still bringing correction, and how important being connected to a local body is because of how hard family life can be. They share will you what's difficult for them, talk a little about disciple, travel sports and whether or not we should force church on our kids. Pastor Caleb even shares some news that some of you may not know....

Being a part of the church is about being a part of a body, a community. This goes for our family as well. We need one another for encouragement and comfort. We need others to speak into our families life, pray for us and help us grow in the word. As the old saying goes - it takes a village.

in the first two chapters of 1 Thessalonians, Paul encourages followers of Christ to set an example for the Kingdom of God regardless of what we go through. We have a hope that's rescued us and that's worth living for.

In the first podcast episode for Beyond the Message, Pastor Javin talks with Kaleigh Cox, one of the authors of Five Mere Christians. This is the book we unpacked with Scripture in our Summer Reading Series. Pastor Javin and Kaleigh discuss more about the book hearing stories that weren't shared, people who may be in future versions and how God is working through Five Mere Christians. They also talked about topics that were brought up from the series: leaving time in your life and trusting God to fill it, living out the Justice of God, and not letting your feelings dictate your faith. There's even some fun nuggets about bed jets....

Life is not smooth sailing, and neither is being in a family. Even though life isn't easy, Christ promised us that we could have peace and take heart in him. Trust him and keep serving.

Our focus in the home and in our spiritual family needs to be on connecting hearts to Christ more than correcting outer behavior. Transformed hearts lead to outward transformation.

The goal of this series is to see the biblical principles that build a strong family and a Christ-Centered home. We realize that not every family looks the same, but our hope is that you'll be encouraged and equipped no matter how your family looks. If you are in Christ, then you have not just a family by blood, you also have family by the blood of Christ. So we will apply these principles to our spiritual family as well. A Christ-centered home begins with Christ-centered focus and a Christ-centered foundation. The parents should take responsibility to lead the home to be Christ-centered and each individual must take responsibility for themselves.

In this message we are introduced to a gentlemen you may have never heard of, but we're pretty sure you've heard of his creation. This guy glorified God by persevering through trials, embracing joy in his work, and worked with excellence in all he did. Scripture tells us that the joy of the Lord is our strength. We have the opportunity to live in that joy, work in that joy, persevere in that joy and share that joy with the world around us.

In this message we meet a lady who sought after justice during her lifetime. She demonstrated love to those who didn't love her, worked tirelessly amidst great opposition, and kept going even when it looked like there was no point. As followers of Christ, we're not just called to do social justice, we're called to do justice that points to the redeeming love and power of Christ by loving mercy and walking humbly with God.

This year's summer reading will highlight a book by Jordan Raynor and Kaleigh Cox called Five Mere Christians. We'll be inspired from 3 individuals to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to earth through our everyday opportunities. We will take these stories and connect them to Biblical truth to learn how we can be a good neighbor, pursue justice without hating the unjust, and glorify God with excellence even in the face of difficulties. In the first week of our summer reading series we'll be inspired by an incredible man who took his calling to children's television. We'll dive into scripture to see how we can bring the kingdom of heaven to earth by taking the time to be a neighbor to those around us, and sharing the love of God that's transformed our life.

Hank, our Student Intern, shares inspiration with us from Psalm 119:33-38.

We all have to be aware of our spiritual enemy. Men, that enemy wants to attack you and those you love. We need to be aware of his tactics, and ready to stand firm in our faith knowing that we are fully capable to do what God has called us to do and protect what God has called us to protect.

In this message we go back to the beginning of God's creation to see the purpose for which God created man. We'll also see through Jesus' temptations in the wilderness the way in which our spiritual enemy wants to attack these purposes. God has created men with a work to serve in, a will and a way to lead the way in obeying and following, and someone to love and partner with for his purposes.

Pastor Caleb, our Student Pastor, shares inspiration with us from Psalm 1.

When you look at Genesis 1:27 and Jesus' words from Matthew 19:4 you see that God has a specific design for sexuality and lifelong intimate relationships. His natural order is between one man and one woman in a covenant relationship of marriage.

Early Scripture declares, and Jesus echoed, that God created us male and female. There's two different ways that God can make us and that way is determined by Him, not by us. God designed us and made us the way we are on purpose and for a purpose.

Pastor Javin's wife Jenny unpacks for us that a A Proverbs 31 woman is a Wise Warrior who is Willing to Work to contribute to the Wealth of her family and community.

We look scripturally at what it means to be a woman of God. God created females for a purpose and with a purpose. In this week we look at what it means for a woman to be a helpmate, humble and holy. God created women with humble beauty, set apart from the world as indispensable, invaluable helpers to do what God has called us to do together for his kingdom.
