The Passover dominates the context of the latter half of Matthew 26. Within the setting of the Last Supper, we find the quintessential occurrence of an often misunderstood phenomenon in the betrayal of Judas Iscariot. God uses the sin of man to accomplish His good design, yet God is not the author of the sin. Even though God willed and used Judas' sin, Judas was responsible and condemned for it. Before trying to understand the Passover and the new understanding of it that Jesus gave in instituting the Lord's Table, we take some time to explore the relationship between man's responsibility and God's sovereignty. A sermon preached by Pastor Caleb at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN.

Sandwiched between two very different answers to the question of Jesus' worth is the reality that in this age there will always be people around us facing poverty. What was the disciples' attitude toward the poor, and what how should we treat them? A question made all the more difficult since our current culture has undertaken a war on poverty founded upon anti-Christian principles; a war that has failed. After revealing how the rulers in Israel were plotting howthey could murder Jesus, Matthew gave us two examples that showed vary different responses to Jesus, so close to His crucifixion. The unnamed woman in the houseof Simon the Leper, and Judas Iscariot. The unnamed woman's actions proved that she knew, loved, and valued Jesus above any earthly possession. Her act of kindness is remembered throughout the centuries. Judas' actions proved he saw Jesus only as a means to what was truly important to him. He is remembered as the definition of treachery and betrayal. A sermon preached by Pastor Caleb at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN.

Send us Fan MailNEW EPISODE: Today I have the privilege of talking with an author, a pastor, and an influencer whose journey is as compelling as it is timely. Dr. Caleb Campbell is the lead pastor of Desert Springs Bible Church in Phoenix, Arizona, the author of Disarming Leviathan: Loving Your Christian Nationalist Neighbor, and one of the featured voices in the podcast series When the Wolves Came: Evangelicals Resisting Extremism. What makes Caleb's story so remarkable is that his understanding of extremism isn't merely academic. As a teenager, he was drawn into the world of neo-Nazi skinheads before eventually finding his way to Christian faith. Years later, after becoming a lead pastor, he began recognizing disturbing echoes of that same ideology emerging inside American evangelicalism—especially after the 2016 election, through the pandemic, and in the aftermath of January 6.In this conversation, we explore what Christian nationalism really is, why it has become so attractive to many believers, and why Caleb believes condemnation isn't the answer. Instead, he calls us to courageous conversations, deep listening, and radical hospitality. If you've struggled to understand friends or family caught up in today's political and religious polarization, I think you'll find this conversation honest, challenging, deeply compassionate—and filled with hope.I can also make this version a little more personal and conversational, in the style you've been using for your recent Beached White Male introductions.SHOW NOTES - including links to Caleb's book and the When the Wolves Came PodcastSupport the showBecome a Patron - Click on the link to learn how you can become a Patron of the show. Preaching Point: : Because everything we have is from God, we must use everything for His purposes knowing that rewards faithful stewards. Text: Luke 16:1-13 (ESV) He also said to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his possessions. 2 And he called him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Turn in the account of your management, for you can no longer be manager.' 3 And the manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do, since my master is taking the management away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg. 4 I have decided what to do, so that when I am removed from management, people may receive me into their houses.' 5 So, summoning his master's debtors one by one, he said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?' 6 He said, ‘A hundred measures of oil.' He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.' 7 Then he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?' He said, ‘A hundred measures of wheat.' He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.' 8 The master commended the dishonest manager for his shrewdness. For the sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light. 9 And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal dwellings. 10 “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. 11 If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? 12 And if you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own? 13 No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”

Have you ever put God on a timeline? Submitted a prayer request that was time sensitive? Yet instead of receiving a response you found yourself in the God's waiting room. If that wasn't enough, it's while you're stuck in God's waiting room that your situation goes from bad to worse. In our passage today we find dear friends of Jesus stuck in His waiting room not by negligence but by design. This story serves as a reminder that sometimes God's delay could result in our very deliverance. Wait on the Lord.
