Nicolas Roeg was know for his disjointed narratives, arthouse filming style and his overtly sexual themes in his movies so he was clearly the obvious choice to direct an adaptation of this Roald Dahl classic kids novel. Just as the vampire genre looked to be consumed with latex clad comic book styled ultra vixens and the beginning of a franchise where the vampires sparkled in the daylight, Sweden turned there hand to this much maligned sub-genre.
