There is much about the myth of the vampire that science will never understand. They crawl from their graves, blood running from their mouths trailing mist in search of innocent victims to join them in monstrosity. They are alluring in their terror and terrifying in their allure, and human kind will never cease to wonder if they are simply a legend, or if there is much more. This week we explore the origins of most famous and enduring vampire of all time: Count Dracula. If you're thinking this will be a whole episode on Vlad The Impaler, think again. There is so much more to the iconic count than one Transylvanian tyrant with a pointy nose.  Click to learn more     WWBD Merch Buy your WWBD swag here!  Sponsors Shore Soaps Try Audible Plus Give the Gift of Audible! This week on Junk Food Dinner, while Sean is out exploring Japan, we go back to the original JFD recipe and conjure up the ghost of original JFD host Mr. Mark Freado Jr. to explore three very different flicks. Up first, Count Dracula has opened his castle up to tourist in an attempt to find a rare blood type to bring his long dormant wife back to life. When he finds the blood type among a group from Playboy Magazine, he is able to bring her back, only this time she's black! Hijinks ensue in 1974's Old Dracula (AKA Vampira). Then, we sample an 80's horror flick from Mexico (but filmed in Texas) about a group of college kids who accidentally raise the dead only to be picked off one by one and also put a young group of trick 'r treaters in danger in Cemetery of Terror from 1985. And finally, we get the not-so-true story of the rise of America's foremost parody song writer in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story from 2022. All this plus we catch up with what Mark has been up to since we last talked, Godzilla Day, we pay respect to Banana Man, hot new blu-rays and so much more.LISTEN NOW:MP3 Direct DonloydAlso, if you like the show, please take a minute and subscribe and/or comment on us on iTunes, Stitcher, Blubrry or Podfeed.net. What better way to close out this scary season than to revisit a gothic horror romance from one of our greatest living directors, Francis Ford Coppola, who directed The Godfather Trilogy among several other modern classics.  This adaptation of the classic 1897 vampire novel of course tells the epic tale of Count Dracula himself played with wild abandon by Gary Oldman clad in various memorable costumes and under gobs of convincing make-up depending on the scene – the story focuses on his star-crossed romance with Mina played by Winona Ryder.  The cast also includes Keanu Reeves, Anthony Hopkins, and Sadie Frost among several other notable actors.  Happy 30th Anniversary to a blood-soaked story where Love Never Dies.Host: Geoff Gershon  Editors: Geoff and Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

In the original Bram Stoker novel, vampire Count Dracula uses mysterious mind-control powers to feed his insatiable need for blood. He doesn't always hunt alone—he prefers to use hapless humans as tools to get what he wants. For such an old story, it sure does match up with the kind of manipulation we tend to see in the real-life cases we cover. Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror is a 1922 silent German horror film directed by F. W. Murnau and starring Max Schreck as Count Orlok, a vampire. Nosferatu was produced by Prana Film and is an unauthorized and unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula. Various names and other details were changed from the novel, including Count Dracula being renamed Count Orlok. Even with several details altered, Stoker's heirs sued over the adaptation, and a court ruling ordered all copies of the film to be destroyed. However, several prints of Nosferatu survived, and the film came to be regarded as an influential masterpiece of cinema. Today, Karl from When It Was Cool reviews this, very close to the novel, interpretation of Dracula in Nosferatu (1922).

We hope the memories of Dracula and Renfield won't give you bad dreams, so just a word of reassurance. Although disparaged by some critics, the film does restore a few elements of Bram Stoker's original character: the Count is introduced as an "icily charming host;" he has command over nature; and he is seen scaling the walls of his castle. It also gives Lee more to do and say than any other Hammer Dracula film except his first, 1958's Dracula.

Reel Britannia - a very British podcast about very British movies...with just a hint of professionalism. The latest episode in our Hammer horror retrospective - and a possibly the movie that truly defined the classic Hammer horror genre... Dracula (1958) Jonathan Harker takes employment with Count Dracula, ostensibly to catalog his vast library. In fact, he is on a mission to kill the Count, a vampire. Before he can do so however, the Count gains the upper hand and Harker soon finds himself as one of the walking dead. Dracula has taken an interest in Harker's fiancée, Lucy Holmwood and it is left to Harker's colleague, Dr. Van Helsing to protect her. He has difficulty convincing Lucy's brother, Arthur Holmwood, of the dangers or even the existence of vampires. Soon, however, Arthur's wife Mina is targeted by Count Dracula and he and Van Helsing race to find his lair before she is lost to them forever. "Please try and understand this is not Lucy the sister you loved. It's only a shell possessed and corrupted by the evil of Dracula. To liberate her soul and give her peace we must destroy that shell for all time. Believe me there is no other way."   You can find this and all our previous episodes everywhere you download your podcasts Follow us on Twitter @rbritanniapod Join us over at our Facebook Group ….we'd love to chat with you   email: reelbritannia@gmail.com   #podcast #britmovie #reelbritannia #hammerhorror #dracula    Thanks for listening Scott, Steven and Mark

He was also an unmedicated schizophrenic. He commits 6 murders in 30 days. Our killer drank the blood of animals prior to escalating to human blood. He truly believed he was a vampire. He felt people who locked their doors, did not want to invite him inside. People who left their homes unlocked, were inviting him inside. Today's serial killer is Richard Trenton Chase. The importance of the movie poster is almost lost in this day and age. With the internet flooding social media with trailers, photos, and all sorts of advertisements, the poster art might get lost in the shuffle. But decades ago, it was the first thing used to promote an upcoming feature film. It had to reach out and grab hold of your eyes, telling your brain you need to see this film. Shortly after that, the poster collecting started. Why do we collect posters? What kinds are there? What is it about it that still holds a spell over movie goers? Join us and our special guest, Alan Tromp, as we try to answer all of those questions and more, as we discuss our own obsessions with movie posters, from one-sheets to British Quads to the French Grande size! This week on Fabulous Film & Friends it's round four of the seemingly endless Coppola v. Scorsese Film Battle, where we shift gears downward with two problematic, others might say misunderstood, passion projects in both maestros' respective canons, as we compare Martin Scorsese's 1988 semi-Biblical epic  The Last Temptation of Christ, starring Willem Dafoe, Harvey Keitel, Barbara Hershey, Barry Miller,  Andre Gregory, Irvin Kershner and David Bowie to Francis Ford Coppola's take on Bram Stoker's Dracula, released in 1992 and starring Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, Keanu Reeves, Cary Elwes, Richard E. Grant, Bill Campbell and Tom Waits. Joining me in this epic clash of blood, life, death and resurrection are my sister Roseanne Caputi, actor, photographer, and erstwhile cycle-jockey, Gordon Alex Robertson and celebrated author, producer and everyone's favorite gadfly George Young who has just announced that his Vampire-themed novel DracuLAND is due to hit the store shelves Halloween of 2022.  With so much ground to cover here are two brief synopses:The Last Temptation of Christ reimagines the life and impact of Jesus Christ through the lens of an unwilling, doubtful, mood swinging, weakling who has less sense of purpose than your average over-priced New York Plumber. And with all the Brooklyn accents in the film, you'd think the plumbers' union delegation took a wrong turn at Poughkeepsi and ended up in The Holy Land.  Meanwhile Bram Stoker's Dracula breaks up the legendary novel about the infamous  Blood-sucking Count Dracula  into three distinct, competing and non-complimentary films: 1) a not so erotic tale of swooning eroticism and temptation, 2) a keystone cops movie starring four bland and bumbling supporting actors who look and act exactly alike, save the one who sounds like he stepped off of a surfer turned bank robbers film and  3) a glib action movie starring an entertaining, beef-eating German vampire hunter)  Are these misunderstood gems or just flat out turkeys?Find out!

Scars of Dracula is a 1970 British horror film directed by Roy Ward Baker for Hammer Films. It stars Christopher Lee as Count Dracula, along with Dennis (i should be so good for you) Waterman, Jenny Hanley, Patrick Troughton, and Michael Gwynn. Although disparaged by some critics, the film does restore a few elements of Bram Stoker's original character: the Count is introduced as an "icily charming host;" he has command over nature; and he is seen scaling the walls of his castle. It also gives Lee more to do and say than any other Hammer Dracula film except its first, 1958's Dracula. This film breaks the continuity maintained through the previous entries in Hammer's Dracula film series: whereas at the end of the preceding film, Taste the Blood of Dracula, the Count met his end in a disused church near London, this film opens with a resurrection scene set in Dracula's castle in Transylvania, with no explanation of how his ashes got there. Furthermore, in Scars of Dracula, the Count has a servant named Klove, played by Patrick Troughton; in the third film of the series, Dracula: Prince of Darkness, Dracula has a servant named Klove (played by Philip Latham) who appears to be a different character, though identically named. The disruption of continuity caused by Scars of Dracula reflects the fact the film was originally tooled as a possible reboot of the series in the event Christopher Lee elected not to reprise the role of Dracula, and, as Listener Christopher pointed out was intended for John Forbes-Robertson, who later played Dracula in The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires.Peter Cushing was asked to appear in this movie, however due to conflicting schedules, he reluctantly declined the major role written for him. He was able to carry out a dare set by his good friend Christopher Lee. Due to a hold up in production in filming of "Scream and Scream Again", Peter was able to spend a day on set filming a brief cameo as a milkmaid for the opening village Inn scene.Dracula's resurrection at the beginning of the film is the same footage as Dracula's death from Taste the Blood of Dracula, but simply played in reverse.$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$ Just in case anyone has too much money and wants to give a bit to us to help with our hosting n stuff. Steak Mtn is the graphic designer behind legendary punk bands like Against Me! and others and is the author of Hunchback '88. He's also a hardcore punk musician and sometimes porn director. Steak brought the gang Jean Rollin's Lips of Blood. From Wikipedia: "Lèvres de Sang (English: Lips of Blood) is a 1975 French horror film directed by Jean Rollin. The film tells the story of a man who begins to have visions of a young woman dressed in white who is locked behind the gates of a château.[1][2] The director was "forced" to shoot the hardcore version as well under the title Suce Moi Vampire.[3]"But first! Black Phone, the theaters of New York City, Belladonna of Sadness, X, and Ti West, the remakes of the 2000s, Ticket of No Return and Ulrike Ottinger.  Movies getting porn films wrong. Then the gang gets into the feature and the work of Jean Rollin, who made tons of erotic horror movies in the 70s as well as hardcore porn. Steak Mtn saw these in the 90s and they struck a chord with him. Josh loves that this begins at a perfume launch party and how pretentious it is. Goofy fangs. How much of the movie is just vampires walking? A lot! And so what. Drusilla compares it to the Spanish film Count Dracula's Great Love. The movie has a secret cabal storyline that's a little weird, but it has great weird interiors, too, so it evens out. Dario Argento comes up a lot. There's a Jean Rollin film INSIDE this Jean Rollin film. The ending is so beautiful and romantic. But is it incest? Next week's movie is a Polish mermaid horror musical, The Lure. Website: http://www.bloodhauspod.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/BloodhausPodInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/bloodhauspod/Email: bloodhauspod@gmail.comDrusilla's art: https://www.sisterhydedesign.com/Drusilla's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hydesister/Drusilla's Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/drew_phillips/Joshua's website: https://www.joshuaconkel.com/Joshua's Twitter: https://twitter.com/JoshuaConkel Joshua's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshua_conkel/Joshua's Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/joshuaconkel/
