What happens when screens stop being something we watch…and become a place we live? Today, The Atlantic writer Megan Garber unpacks the strange new social reality she explores in Screen People: How We Entertained Ourselves into a State of Emergency—where everyone's performing, politics feels like plot, and “main character energy” starts to warp how we treat real human beings. Then we connect it to the next generation, with Technology's Child: Digital Media's Role in the Ages and Stages of Growing Up by Katie Davis, a guide to how kids experience tech differently at each developmental stage—and what “good enough” digital parenting actually looks like.

What if vampirism wasn't supernatural… but biological? In today's review, I dive into The Strain (2009), the first novel in Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan's acclaimed vampire horror trilogy. Long before I knew this was a book series, I enjoyed watching FX's four-season adaptation. Once I discovered there were novels behind the show, this one shot straight onto my TBR.Featuring a terrifying blend of vampire mythology, viral infection, scientific investigation, ancient prophecy, and apocalyptic horror, The Strain delivers one of the most unique takes on vampires you'll ever encounter. Add in a memorable cast of characters, Holocaust survivor Abraham Setrakian, a truly unforgettable opening mystery involving a jetliner full of dead passengers, and audiobook narration by Ron Perlman himself, and you've got a recipe for a fantastic horror read.Join me as I discuss what makes this novel work so well, who will love it, who might want to skip it, and why I think vampire fans owe it to themselves to check out this modern horror classic.Have you read The Strain? Sages for the Ages | 2 Kings 5 Happy Father's Day. This week's message is for every person who has — or has had — an old man in their life worth celebrating. And for those who are becoming that person for someone else. We open in 1 Samuel 2:31, where God delivers a sobering warning to Eli the priest: there will no longer be an old man in your house. Eli was good in many ways, but he was passive where he needed to be decisive. His failure to correct his sons set off a chain reaction that God promised would echo for generations. The message of today isn't condemnation — it's a celebration. A celebration of the fathers, the grandfathers, the elders, the sages who stayed. Who may not have had much to say, but when they spoke, you listened. Who handed you a silver dollar from a jar when you were a child, and you never forgot it. Who told you things you didn't understand then, but needed desperately later — because wisdom is something you deposit in you before you need it. We trace the consequences of rejecting elder wisdom through the life of King Rehoboam, who stood at a crossroads with Solomon's own counselors on one side and his college friends on the other — and chose wrong. What followed divided a kingdom. And we close with this: you cannot live right unless you love right. The world needs leaders who carry the wisdom of God, the love of Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Today's Scripture: 1 Samuel 2:31 | Deuteronomy 32:7 | 1 Kings 12:6–14 | Ecclesiastes 7:12 | Psalm 90:12

Some science fiction and fantasy books have incredible titles. Others have titles that leave you wondering if the author lost a dare, a bet, or perhaps a small amount of their sanity. In this episode of Fantasy for the Ages, I'm handing out twenty completely unofficial, thoroughly unimportant, and highly prestigious awards to some of the strangest, funniest, most baffling book titles in SFF history. From John Dies at the End and Dungeon Crawler Carl to The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse and Space Raptor Butt Invasion, we're celebrating the wonderfully weird side of speculative fiction.Along the way, we'll determine which title sounds most like a threat, which one would most confuse a librarian, which one might accidentally summon an Elder God, and which one should probably never be recommended in polite company. Whether you've read these books or are just here for the laughs, this is a celebration of the creativity—and occasional madness—of SFF publishing. What are the weirdest, funniest, or most unforgettable science fiction and fantasy book titles you've ever encountered? Let me know in the comments!

Warlock's Sun Rising Review | The Best Epic Fantasy Nobody Is Talking About?

How is nobody talking about this series?!Warlock's Sun Rising by Damien Black continues one of the most impressive epic fantasy stories I've discovered in recent years. After being thoroughly captivated by Devil's Night Dawning, I had high expectations going into Book 2 — and somehow this sequel exceeded them. Bigger stakes, deeper character work, fascinating villains, powerful faith elements, shocking twists, and multiple jaw-dropping ending moments make this one of the strongest fantasy sequels I've read in quite some time.In this spoiler-lite review, I discuss what makes Warlock's Sun Rising such a compelling read, why fans of classic epic fantasy should take notice, and why Damien Black's Broken Stone Chronicle deserves far more attention than it receives. If you enjoy sprawling fantasy worlds, intersecting storylines, memorable characters, and a unique clash between divine power and dark magic, this may be a series you need to add to your TBR immediately.Have you read Warlock's Sun Rising or Devil's Night Dawning? George Jones possessed one of the finest and most expressive instruments God ever created: his voice, which is widely considered the greatest in country music. But he was also possessed by demons who haunted him his whole life, and heard voices that tormented and controlled him. His addictions to drugs and alcohol made him legendarily unreliable, earning him the nickname "No Show Jones." But just when George Jones was at his lowest, a song came along that would change everything - proving that his voice could still work wonders. To listen to Disgraceland ad free and get access to a monthly exclusive episode, weekly bonus content and more, become a Disgraceland All Access member at disgracelandpod.com/membership. By Day 5 My Face, Skin, and Teeth Had Already Changed. Ben Azadi quit sugar for 14 days. By day five, the puffiness around his eyes was gone, his jawline looked sharper, his teeth looked whiter, and the constant food noise in his head went silent. This isn't a story about candy. It's about the hidden sugar in the "healthy" foods you eat every day, and what happens when you finally pull it out. The average American eats 57 pounds of added sugar a year, roughly 14 times what our bodies were built to handle, and it's quietly inflaming your face, your gut, your skin, and your brain. In this episode, Ben walks through the full day-by-day transformation. The brutal withdrawal, the day-five turning point, the visible changes, and the science underneath all of it. Key takeaways: 94% of rats chose sweet water over intravenous cocaine, because sugar hits the same brain reward pathway A UCSF study cut kids' liver fat by over 20% in nine days by swapping sugar for starch, with no weight loss Removing sugar drained facial inflammation and gave the appearance of a sharper, less puffy face A low glycemic diet significantly reduced acne lesions and shrank inflamed oil glands in a controlled trial Glycation and AGEs are how sugar stiffens collagen and ages your skin from the inside A high protein dessert at night quiets cravings by activating the same fullness pathways as GLP-1 drugs The 7-step game plan to do your own 14-day reset Find All The Ben Azadi Show Sponsorship Deals https://www.ketokamp.com/sponsorship-deals Learn more about your ad choices. The Knicks are up two games in the NBA Finals, but the biggest debate may be who deserves the early MVP spotlight. Evan and Tiki break down Jalen Brunson's clutch moments, Karl-Anthony Towns' two way impact, OG Anunoby's case, and why officiating in Game 2 left everyone frustrated. They also take calls from Knicks fans wrestling with Finals anxiety, family obligations, and historical comparisons. From the 1996 Yankees to the 1986 Giants, the conversation turns into a bigger question about whether this Knicks team is turning into one of New York's most memorable championship stories.

What do hormones actually do—and why are they often misunderstood? We talk with Dr. Gillian Goddard, an endocrinologist and author of The Hormone Loop: An Empowering Guide to Restoring Hormonal Harmony from Puberty to Menopause. Dr. Goddard explains how hormones affect far more than reproduction, influencing everything from metabolism and sleep to mood, stress responses, and cardiovascular health. She breaks down the concept of the "hormone loop" and explains the four major hormonal systems that work together to keep our bodies functioning: reproductive, thyroid, growth hormone, and adrenal (stress) loops. The conversation explores how hormonal changes during puberty, pregnancy, perimenopause, and menopause can affect the entire body—not just reproductive health. We also discuss why women's symptoms are so often dismissed, how cultural attitudes about hormones can prevent women from seeking care, and why tracking symptoms can help patients advocate for themselves more effectively. Other topics include: The relationship between estrogen, the immune system, and thyroid disorders Hormone replacement therapy: benefits, misconceptions, and current research The role of GLP-1 medications in midlife health and weight management Here's where you can find Dr. Goddard: @thesavvypatient on IG https://savvypatient.substack.com Buy THE HORMONE LOOP: https://bookshop.org/a/12099/9780063455047 What Fresh Hell is co-hosted by Amy Wilson and Margaret Ables.
