Happy holidays listeners! The holiday season can be packed with fun celebrations. To help make sure your festivities stay cheery and safe, we're sharing our favorite FDNYSmart tips for the holidays!

Fall is officially here, and you know what that means! In this episode, we are celebrating Fire Prevention Week by reminding everyone about how important it is to have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their homes. When an alarm sounds it gives you an early warning signal that can save lives, but it has to be working!

We're coming to you from Ghostbusters' headquarters, Hook and Ladder Company 8 in Manhattan. Built in 1903, the firehouse was made famous by the beloved films. Though, here at FDNY, when someone asks, ‘Who you gonna call?' Our answer is always, ‘9-1-1 in a real emergency!' Chloe talks to Deputy Assistant Chief Denise Werner from Emergency Medical Dispatch all about when to call 9-1-1, who answers your call and what to say when you need help.

Do you know what to do if there's a fire or emergency in your home? In this episode, we are giving you important FDNY Smart tips on escape planning.  That's a plan that could save your life in an emergency. In a smoky or chaotic atmosphere, it's easy to become overwhelmed and confused. By planning and practicing an escape plan with your loved ones, you can be confident about making a safe escape.

Kids are back to school and the “FDNYSmart Podcast for Kids!” is back for a new season, just in time for Fire Prevention Week. Do you like helping out in the kitchen? Do you know what's hot and what's not and how to stay safe? In this episode, we're talking kitchen safety!  

We're coming to you from the FDNY Smokehouse! Also known as the Mobile Fire Safety Experience truck. It's a roving teaching tool equipped with fake smoke and a darkened hallway simulator, that helps us drive home our fire safety lessons. One lesson that is so important to remember is closing the door when escaping a fire and closing your bedroom doors before you doze. Our guest in this episode is Chief of Fire Operations John Esposito who reminds us that if there is a fire in your home, closing the door when escaping helps keep smoke and fire from spreading.

We're coming to you from an FDNY Summer Block Party! In this special summer episode, we are re-visiting a past conversation we had about three simple numbers that can possibly save a life: 9-1-1! Our guest is Ann O'Brien, Deputy Director of Fire Dispatch Operations, who reminds us that it is important to call 9-1-1 as soon as there's an emergency because things can get worse—quickly. 

All summer long the FDNY Smart Podcast for Kids! is coming to you from an FDNY Summer Block Party! This month, Chloe reminds everyone about the importance of safely using lithium-ion batteries and revisits her conversation with Lieutenant John Cassidy from Hazmat Company 1. They talk rechargeable, or Lithium-ion batteries – the ones that power your phones, tablets, e-scooters and e-bikes – and how to keep them safe.

The summer is a fun time of year! But, there are a few safety tips that we should all review to make sure the season stays fun and injury-free. In this episode, we discuss how to be #FDNYSmart during the summer by talking to our fire safety expert, Captain Michael Kozo. 

Did you know that the first few minutes after a person goes into cardiac arrest are the most critical? That's why it's so important to learn the skill of hands-only CPR and feel confident using an automated external defibrillator (or AED). You can help save a life! In this episode, we discuss these basic skills and how they can give people a second chance.

Did you know you the FDNY offers Youth Programs for those interested in learning more about a career with the FDNY? In this episode we talk to EMT Ramla Evans, program manager for the FDNY Exploring Program. The program allows youths in New York City to learn new skills and gain experience with the greatest fire department in the world!

It's so important to call 9-1-1 as soon as there's an emergency because the situation can get worse—quickly! Calling 9-1-1 is easy, but do you know what to say once you call for help? Or how dispatchers handle emergency calls? In this episode, we'll teach you all about this lifesaving topic so you can be FDNYSmart when calling 9-1-1!

In this episode we talk about some burning issues… and by that we mean Burn Awareness and Safety tips! We discuss how to be #FDNYSmart about avoiding all types of burns and what to do if you do get burned.

You may be hearing more and more about “lithium-ion batteries” these days. They're rechargeable batteries that can be found in electronic devices in every home - like your phone, tablet, electric scooters and bikes. If these batteries aren't handled properly, they can overheat, catch fire or even explode! In this episode, our special guest, Battery Man, provides important FDNYSmart tips on how to use lithium-ion batteries safely and our student host, Chloe, interviews Lieutenant John Cassidy of HazMat Company 1, a unit specially trained to respond to fires that involve batteries. 

School is in session and we're back too, kicking-off a brand-new season of the “FDNY Smart Podcast for Kids!” just in time for Fire Prevention Week.
