Many people with osteoporosis focus on strength training but overlook another key piece of the puzzle: mobility. Today's guest explains why staying flexible, balanced, and confident in your movement is essential for stronger, healthier aging. In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Justine Bernard, a physical therapist, Master Trainer of the Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis movement methods, and creator of the Gyrotonic Exercise Applications for Osteoporosis course. Justine shares how Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis can be adapted for people with osteoporosis, combining mindful movement, breath, resistance, and functional mobility. She reminds us that the goal is to learn how to move better, and demonstrates how these methods can support posture, balance, body awareness, and safe movement while also complementing traditional resistance training. Whether you're trying to get back to activities you love, improve your confidence with movement, or simply maintain your independence, this episode will give you practical tools to move better and feel stronger. The actor saying he can have a few drinks, and after a few “overconfident” incidents, has decided to continue drinking, but “not in big quantities.” Pitt’s admission has rekindled an ongoing debate among recovering alcoholics, with Alcoholics Anonymous maintaining that “no one who has become an alcoholic has ever ceased to be an alcoholic” while other organizations support a moderation management technique, similar to what Pitt describes. The Barbell Mamas Podcast | Pregnancy, Postpartum, Pelvic Health
The advice most pregnant people hear about exercise is weirdly contradictory: “movement is good for you,” followed immediately by “don't change anything.” So what happens when you find out you're pregnant and you haven't been active, you stepped away from training, or you've only ever been told to stick to walking? We tackle that gap head-on and lay out a practical, evidence-informed way to start exercising during pregnancy without turning it into an all-or-nothing project. We talk through the real baseline recommendations for prenatal cardio and what “moderate intensity” can actually mean in real life, then challenge the fear-driven idea that pregnancy is a fragile time when you should avoid new movement. The key is body readiness, not blanket rules. You don't need to jump from zero to a one-rep max, but you also don't need to avoid building strength just because you're new. As a pelvic floor physical therapist, I share why strength training in pregnancy can be a game changer for supporting your hips, core, back, and pelvic floor as your body adapts to relaxin, changing joint support, and the growing demands of pregnancy. We also connect the dots to pelvic girdle pain, the role of “strength in reserve,” and why being pregnant is hard but being pregnant deconditioned can be harder. Finally, I give clear starting principles: pick equipment you feel comfortable with, start low and go slow, aim for a manageable effort, expect fatigue to feel different, and focus on simple movement patterns you can repeat and progress. If this shifts how you think about prenatal fitness and postpartum recovery, share it with a friend, subscribe, and leave a review so more moms can find it.___________________________________________________________________________Don't miss out on any of the TEA coming out of the Barbell Mamas by subscribing to our newsletter You can also follow us on Instagram and YouTube for all the up-to-date information you need about pelvic health and female athletes. The Operational Blueprint for High-Yield Community Fitness: Efficient Systems, High-Touch Coaching, and Authentic Brand Growth with Dan KachtikIn a recent episode of The Thoughtful Entrepreneur Podcast, host Josh Elledge sat down with Dan Kachtik, Owner, Programmer, and Coach/Trainer at King William District CrossFit, to examine how local service businesses and fitness operators can build resilient, high-retention communities without sacrificing operational efficiency. Dan, a veteran fitness programmer and gym owner based in San Antonio, Texas, details how busy professionals and entrepreneurs can achieve peak physical condition with concise, highly structured training protocols. This conversation delivers an intentional blueprint for gym owners, fitness enthusiasts, and business leaders who want to leverage personalized coaching, implement high-touch nutrition systems, foster genuine community accountability, and utilize authentic media strategies to scale local brand authority. The Functional Fitness Engine: Streamlining Time-Efficient Workouts, High-Touch Nutrition, and Local Brand MarketingThe primary operational constraint preventing busy executives and founders from maintaining long-term physical health is a lack of time-efficient, structured workout systems that fit seamlessly into demanding professional schedules. Dan Kachtik explains that high-volume, multi-hour gym routines are inherently unsustainable for time-poor professionals, whereas constantly varied functional training delivers maximum physiological results in just three to four hours per week. By combining strength, gymnastics, and cardiovascular conditioning into concise, one-hour coached sessions, members achieve comprehensive physical fitness while mitigating burnout. Partnering this physical training with hands-on, expert coaching ensures that movements are modified safely for individual needs and past injuries, protecting long-term physical health and driving consistent member retention.Extending member results beyond physical gym walls requires an intentional shift toward high-touch digital nutrition support and flexible remote programming. Traditional, static meal plans routinely fail because they lack real-time accountability and fail to adapt to changing executive lifestyles or biological aging. By utilizing modern messaging channels to provide daily, real-time nutrition check-ins and developing custom remote programming tailored to available travel equipment, fitness operators can deliver personalized value anywhere in the world. This hybrid service model expands the business's market reach, ensuring clients maintain dietary discipline and training momentum even when traveling for high-stakes business operations.Furthermore, building long-term local market dominance demands that business owners replace expensive, impersonal digital advertising campaigns with authentic, story-driven media guesting. Appearing as a guest on local and niche podcasts allows gym owners and service providers to share real-world expertise, build immediate trust, and connect directly with high-value target audiences. While artificial intelligence and automated software can streamline administrative scheduling and backend communications, human accountability remains the non-negotiable core of client success and community building. When personalized coaching, daily high-touch nutrition support, inclusive community culture, and authentic podcast media strategies are synthesized into a single operational framework, business leaders eliminate customer acquisition friction, elevate member lifetime value, and predictably expand enterprise valuation.About Dan KachtikDan Kachtik is the Owner, Programmer, and Coach/Trainer at King William District CrossFit, a prominent fitness programmer, and an expert in functional strength and conditioning. Drawing from years of hands-on experience coaching busy professionals, business owners, and athletes in San Antonio, Texas, Dan specializes in building inclusive, high-retention fitness communities. Caleb Froedge discusses Hosea 2:18—“In that day I will make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, with the birds of the air, and with the creeping things of the ground. Bow and sword of battle I will shatter from the earth, to make them lie down safely.”
We know how things turned out for the disciples as the nighttime storm blew in across the Sea of Galilee. However, for the disciples they couldn't see how they were going to make it to the other side. And for Peter, it almost looked as if everything was lost. If you're facing a situation in your life where it's not clear if, or how, you're going to make it through, then you're going to want to have another look at this familiar event in Matthew. Welcome back to HALO Talks! In today's episode, host Pete Moore sits down with Cory Sterling, founder of Conscious Counsel, legal advisor, and entrepreneur dedicated to the health, active lifestyle, and outdoor (HALO) sectors. After starting his career in professional sports marketing and feeling uninspired by traditional corporate law, Sterling pivoted to blend his passion for movement and wellness with legal expertise, serving gym owners, studio operators, and wellness entrepreneurs across North America. In this episode, Cory explores the changing landscape of proactive legal strategies, the critical importance of customized waivers, and the pitfalls of cutting legal corners, especially in a sector known for its rapid innovation and ever-changing service offerings. From emerging liabilities in fitness centers offering pseudo-medical treatments to the impact of new click-to-cancel regulations and best practices for contract scalability, Sterling delivers actionable insight for operators looking to protect their business and reputation. If you're building or scaling a business in the HALO sector, you won't want to miss this conversation! When it comes to using AI in place of real, boots-on-the-ground legal expertise Sterling says, "ChatGPT is helpful to some extent, but the thing is that AI doesn't have is the history or the experience of having done this very, very specific thing over and over again to understand what sort of problems will come up and to produce a document that, A, you understand, that has the things that you need, and B, proactively goes against the issues that a law practice that's been doing this for 10 years." Key themes discussed Proactive vs. reactive legal strategies for fitness businesses Importance of industry-specific, customized legal documents Scaling legal services via referrals and word-of-mouth Impact of technology and AI on legal processes and pitfalls Evolving liability waivers due to new wellness services Click-to-cancel laws and compliance challenges Structuring agreements for med spas and new offerings A Few Key Takeaways 1. Proactive Law Is Essential for Scaling and Protecting Your Business: Cory emphasized the critical distinction between "proactive law" and "reactive law." Investing in legal documents and compliance up front empowers business owners to resolve issues quickly—sometimes with just a single email—rather than scrambling after a crisis hits 05:10. 2. Industry-Specific Legal Agreements Create True Protection: Sterling underscored that generic contracts, including those generated by AI tools like ChatGPT, are not sufficient. Only industry-specific, lawyer-drafted documents ensure full coverage for unique risks in the health, fitness, and wellness sectors. Customized waivers and agreements need to reflect actual operations, activities, and equipment used 19:19. 3. Rapid Industry Evolution Demands Ongoing Legal Updates: The sector's expansion into new areas, such as hormone therapies, IV drips, contrast therapy, and recovery modalities, means that legal documents must be routinely updated to reflect expanding services and regulatory changes (e.g., ADA requirements now extending to online platforms, click-to-cancel laws). 4. Strong Relationships and Word-of-Mouth Drive Growth: Sterling built Conscious Counsel through deep niche expertise and authentic relationships in the HALO community. He highlighted that word-of-mouth and referrals, backed by stellar client experience and reviews, are the engines of scalable legal services in this space 04:10. 5. Cutting Corners in Legal Can Derail Your Brand and Exit Strategy: For executives with aspirations to scale or exit, Sterling's advice is clear: legal is not the place to cut corners. "You can pay me now or you can pay me later," he said, recounting common scenarios where avoidable legal oversights, like hiring misclassifications or poorly drafted waivers, led to major operational and reputational headaches 22:30. Working alone in a remote cabin build sounds peaceful until you do the math: one body, two hands, heavy materials, sharp tools, and nobody around if something goes wrong. We talk through the practical reality of solo homesteading and off-grid construction, including why jobs that look “simple” on video often take triple the time in real life. The hidden cost is not motivation or grit, it's all the engineering you have to do to replace a second person: jigs, levers, clamps, braces, rope rigging, and careful sequencing so you never get stuck holding a load with your tools out of reach. Then we get serious about safety. When you're working alone with a chainsaw, on a roof, or under a suspended load, the margin for error is fundamentally different. I share the non-negotiables that make solo work survivable: keeping a satellite communicator (Spot beacon or Garmin inReach) on your body, not in the truck, using any cell service you can get for texts, and telling someone exactly where you'll be and what you're doing so a missed check-in actually means something. We also dig into why tasks like felling trees, roofing, and lifting heavy timbers demand slower decisions, bigger margins, and redundant rigging. The biggest takeaway goes beyond tools and technique: self-reliance is not self-sufficiency. If your whole system collapses when you get hurt, it's fragile no matter how capable you are. We talk reciprocity, community, pride, and why the most resilient off-grid setups build redundancy in people the same way they build redundancy in gear. If this hit home, subscribe, share it with a friend who works solo, and leave a review with your best safety rule or hard-earned lesson.Support the showMy Self Reliance YouTube Channel- https://youtube.com/@MySelfReliance?si=d4js0zGc5ogYvDtOShawn James Youtube Channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5L_M7BF5iait4FzEbwKCAgMerchandise - https://teespring.com/stores/my-self-reliance
Episode 900 feels like a fitting reminder that almost every worthwhile project comes with a few unexpected lessons. This week I spent another long day clearing the future solar field, including dropping several large trees and one rotten dead tree that decided to make things a little more interesting than I'd planned. Fortunately, everything—and everyone—ended up on the ground where it belonged.Back inside the cabin, we're still chasing the vinyl floor bubbles. After sorting through plenty of internet advice, we tested several repair methods, found a couple that were a complete waste of time, and one that actually looks promising. If you're installing sheet vinyl yourself, this may save you some frustration.I also talk about the latest video in the solar build series covering the tools I'm using to clear the property, why I've been intentionally rebuilding my Nostr habit after getting burned out on traditional social media, and finish with a discussion about how Flock license plate cameras are being used in ways that go well beyond simply finding stolen cars.Topics include:• Clearing trees for the off-grid solar project• Safely dealing with standing dead timber• Repairing bubbles in sheet vinyl flooring• The tools making land clearing easier• Rebuilding healthier social media habits with Nostr• Flock cameras and expanding surveillance• Cabin build progress• Bitcoin and the LOTS communityThanks for listening and for helping this show reach 900 episodes. During August, the Motherkind team and I try to practise what we preach by slowing down, taking some time off and making the juggle just a little easier over the summer holidays. So, throughout the month, we're bringing you some of our most listened-to episodes of the year so far.Can you be an ambitious mother without feeling guilty?Emma Grede believes you can, and that our children actually benefit when they see us fully expressed, fulfilled and living in alignment with our own values.Emma is one of the world's most successful entrepreneurs, co-founder of SKIMS, CEO of Good American, founding partner of Safely, investor on Shark Tank and author of Start With Yourself. But this conversation isn't really about business. It's about the invisible pressure mothers carry, the impossible standards we set ourselves, and how to build a life that feels true to you.Together, Zoe and Emma explore why so many mothers feel depleted, how to let go of guilt, and why success looks different in different seasons of life. Emma shares the parenting philosophy that has helped her build multiple global businesses while raising four children and why she believes children don't need a perfect mother; they need one who is fulfilled. They also discuss work-life balance, career ambition after children, asking for help, letting go of control, sharing the parenting load, and why learning to say no is one of the most powerful leadership skills a mother can develop.

Kevin O'Leary says you only need one thing to retire safely: $5 million in Treasury bills. Not stocks. Not real estate. Just T-bills — and you've "safeguarded your family for life." It sounds like the ultimate safe retirement plan. But when a recent research article tested this advice against 40 years of market history, the results told a very different story. In this episode, I break down the research behind the "T-Bill and Chill" strategy and what it really means for your retirement plan. Here's what you'll learn: → The two hidden forces working against a portfolio built entirely on "safe" assets → What happened to a hypothetical retiree who followed this exact advice → Why Kevin O'Leary might still be right... just not for the reason he thinks By the end, you'll know exactly what job "safe" money should (and shouldn't) have in your retirement plan. ***
