Coach Carla McKenzie is one of the nicest and kindest people I know in the tennis world with a passion for helping others and a gift for coaching. She is the Director of Tennis at The Shore and Country Club which has an incredible membership base of passionate tennis players and Carla has been instrumental in growing the program by 300% since her arrival. She has had wonderful mentors along her journey (whom she credits in this episode). Carla is clear on her coaching philosophy, what makes a great coach and leader, and what she looks for when recruiting tennis coaches. She is a self-confessed "educational junkie" who was recognized as the Profesional Tennis Registry (PTR) Coach Developer of the Year in 2019. She believes that a great coach is passionate, a great listener, and can adapt especially when they are under pressure. As a leader, Carla would never ask her team to do something that she is not prepared to do herself. We hope you enjoy this episode. Some of the highlights include; 2.13: Best coaching moment: Mentoring a young coach - build your empathy skills and find out what motivates and drives your coaches. What can you learn from your students? 4.21: Worst coaching moment: First coaching experience - "I need mentoring and coach education NOW!" 6.12: Sliding Doors: Gradual steps where one job leads to another over time. 8.12: When a high school tennis school sees you pitching in a little league baseball game and you start playing tennis the next day! 9.06: What makes a Great Coach? (Adapt, Listener, and Passionate) Can you adapt, tweak, adjust, and modify when you are under pressure Some folks just want to be heard - turn the feedback into implementation When people can tell that you love what you do, it becomes infectious and that's when you can thrive as a team 11.55: What's working well? What situations are you facing? When you are reflecting on your coaching practice - ask these two simple questions: What went well? What can we do better tomorrow? 10.16: Conflict Resolution Formula - TFFI We Can Fly! The key is to get through the entire formula before the respondent is granted the right to reply. TFFI T – Topic This is the issue. Assume positive intent and check-in first; is this a good time or block out a time to meet. What I want to talk to you about today is… F – Facts What I have observed is, the facts are… F – Feelings This is how I feel, or this made me feel upset, this made me feel really frustrated… I – Impact Here's the impact on the team, organisation, the business… When you get through the first part of TFFI, briefly pause and take a deep breath. It's not easy to have this type of conversation and this is not an opportunity for them to respond. Remember to assume positive intent, show that you care and continue to move through the entire formula before asking them for their reflections. We Can Fly WE: WANT – This is what I want, here are the options, provide some solutions, moving forwards… CAN: CONTRIBUTE – This is where I acknowledge how I have contributed to the situation, and take responsibility for my role in the issue. Note that this is how you take responsibility and acknowledge your contribution to the situation, to really open up some healthy dialogue. FLY: FORWARDS – So moving forwards, this is what I am proposing... I would love to hear your thoughts. 19.58: Carla's high school coach had great morals, ethics, etc - shout out to: John Fry 21.11: Becoming a Coach Developer 25.36: What makes a great leader? Don't be afraid to take out the trash and go the extra mile for your staff/team. Communication Organization Integrity Honest 27.29: What forms part of your coaching philosophy? What environment do we want to create? What is our purpose? Why are you here? What can I help you with? 29.30: The most impactful education: Master of Tennis (MOT) from the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) Record yourself coaching - what do you see, hear, feel, and think? 30.35: What's next? 32.08: Advice for coaches who are unsure about the profession? 'Get to know people.' 32.53: What do you look for when recruiting coaches? (Referrals and word of mouth) plus these three qualities: 1) Do you have a history of us working together? (Know the expectations) 2) Are you a good person? Do you have a good personality? 3) Do you have a growth mindset? It's important to color outside the lines every once in a while. And this week's conversation was a good reminder of that fact. But that doesn't always mean it's comfortable to do - especially if you're like me and thrive off of systems. Whether it's the messy side of life we see in ZOOM meetings, the blur between work and home, or the way we've had change how we build relationships, admitting a lot of things are just done DIFFERENTLY is usually the first step towards making something better. So I couldn't imagine a better conversation to ease us all into that short period of chaos between Thanksgiving and the New Year.My guest this week is Beth Montgomery, the founder of Project, DONE!, a consulting firm that specializes in helping make room for leaders to focus on what matters. Beth is a TEDx Speaker, a mother of two teenagers, and a regular contributor to Central Penn Parent Magazine. And when she's not helping clients, she's helping her community as a member of Project Save a Life, an organization that provides CPR/AED training to people of all ages. We talk about the healing nature of service, the importance of giving others the benefit of the doubt, and - of course - our pets. It was one of those rare conversations that feels both incredibly relaxing and deeply meaningful. Enjoy the show!

She says the majority of these deaths are completely preventable and she stresses the importance of educating parents and school staff about how to spot the symptoms of cardiac arrest.Segment 2Melinda highlights that her organization provides training and donates medical equipment for non-profit and other organizations that can't afford equipment. On this 11th episode of the Pursuit of Health podcast, Dr. Fethke is honored and excited to invite a dear friend and colleague, Steven Tannenbaum, Esq., to debunk the notion that doctors and lawyers are necessarily always adversaries. He has been recognized as one of the Top Attorneys in North America, an honor bestowed to only a few American attorneys recognized for their degree of professional success and leadership. He additionally serves as a mediator and an arbitrator for National Arbitration and Mediation. He currently serves as National Vice-chair of Parent Heart Watch, the sole national voice dedicated to protecting youth from sudden cardiac arrest and preventable sudden cardiac death. He also serves as a Board of Directors Member of the Louis J. Acompora Memorial Foundation and the Dominic A. Murray 21 Memorial Foundation. He is a past board chair of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association. He is the 2010 recipient of the American Heart Association's Louis J. Murray 21 Memorial Foundation's Save a Child Award, the 2015 American Heart Association Heart Saver Award and the 2016 Parent Heart Watch Founder's Award. Mr. Tannenbaum is the rare teacher who can clearly explain such often misunderstood legal processes as Trial by Jury, Tort Law, Good Samaritan Law and the Medical Standard of Care. He shares his views on the proper use of these and other legalities involving healthcare, never losing sight of his role to serve others and uphold the legacy and fundamental nobility of the fields of Medicine and Law. He shares his very personal story as a grateful survivor of a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) which occurred May 6, 2009. This experience led him to become an American Heart Association certified CPR/AED instructor, training more than 10,000 people to date. As an attorney, he remains passionate about the need to inform and empower everyone to prevent and treat SCA. He is a nationally recognized speaker and educator, appearing on television and radio to share his knowledge about CPR/AED usage. He explains how he has fought in several states to establish legal protections from liability through state and national Good Samaritan Laws. He explains the purpose of his work to assist in the drafting of legislation in several states to help save lives. Most notably, Mr. Tannenbaum finishes this wonderful session by advocating for equal and equitable justice for all under the law. He believes that our work is not done until both lawyers and physicians can ensure that all of the wonderful technologies and treatments of modern medicine are available to each and every one of us. In his eyes to do any less is paramount to committing a crime. 耳朵學英文 defibrillator 傻瓜電極器 AED BBC, NY Times, Match (詞組搭配) 每月開班! 請私訊林威老師 lineID: linwayet defibrillator (n.) a machine that uses an electric current to stop any irregular and dangerous activity of the heart's muscles, used especially in hospitals (心臟)電擊器 Defibrillators are used to restore normal rhythm to the heart.

On this week’s episode of the Healthy Wealthy and Smart Podcast, Nick Lucius and I chat about physical therapy wellness services. Nick is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist working with Barwis Methods as an Applied Coach in Port St. Lucie, Florida. In this episode, we discuss: -How to transition from episodic care to wellness services -The role of strength and conditioning in physical therapy services -Nick’s thoughts on the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist -How to develop a therapeutic alliance in a biopsychosocial model framework -Advice for #FreshPTs -And so much more! When communicating desired outcomes to patients, it is important to stress the long-term wellness and quality of life aspects. He states, “have them understand that the goal is not to run you through the ground and to make you hurt, it’s really to empower you to live the rest of your life in the most positive and healthy way possible.” In contrast to the biomedical approach to patient care, the biopsychosocial model can allow you to empower the patient and ultimately develop buy in for future wellness needs. He believes, “it really would benefit us to not look at us as a lifelong PT or lifelong clinician insinuating the mechanic, ‘Oh yeah, just come back to me and I'll fix you up.’ It's not like a car, you have feelings and emotions and thought processes, it muddies the water really fast, and that’s what really benefits having that wide range of education from strength conditioning to pain science to traditional physical therapy and that ties it all back in together.” As a new graduate, Nick offers some advice for fresh PTs to, “Keep the hunger for knowledge and the hunger to really make substantial and life changing change for these individuals. When you get a couple of cases that might be discouraging or make you feel uncomfortable, everyone feels uncomfortable and at some point they got comfortable being uncomfortable, they got very used to having that hunger to try to keep driving to be better and better.” For more about Nick: Nick graduated from the University of Michigan with a Doctor in Physical Therapy in 2015. Previously Nick earned a Bachelors of Science from Grand Valley State University in Clinical Exercise Science in 2012.
