Cultural Competency Training - Diversity & Inclusion
In this episode Tiffany Robinson and I discuss failure. We disagree on a few points, but we do agree that mistakes help us to get stronger. Learning from our failures is like lifting weights in the gym. There can be pain and sometimes there is tearing, but if we learn to fail well we can grow bigger and stronger. Both Tiffany and I share some failures.
Shock and awe!!! This week we talk about teenagers. What type of pressures are teens facing and are we as parents causing the drama?

To reach our goals, we have had to learn how to wade through all of our life experiences, all of the bits and pieces of wisdom that we have been given and figure out the best path for our individual lives. Avoid the pitfalls that lead to teen and young adult depression, anxiety, and general hopelessness about the future. You have power in determining how the current circumstances of life will impact your future.
Do it your way. Don't worry if you don't fit the mold or measure up to the expectations of others.
Part Two with Coach Brickhouse. The maturation process never stops. In this episode, I am joined by one of my former students who is now a father, a teacher and a coach. Ben and I have known each other for 20 years. We talk about his growth and how he is navigating life. Ben shares a little bit of his story and the decision he has had to make in life. Ben shares the wisdom of a young millennial who is taking care of a young son and wife.
I DECIDE. Knowing and doing are two separate acts. Even if you have a good grasp of your gifts, are you putting in the necessary work to pursue your dreams? Will you be able to overcome whatever obstacles keep you from deciding to follow your IDEAL path? To be honest, some people choose not to live their IDEAL lives. They choose the easy path. They choose the path that gets them the most money or the most prestige. The IDEAL process is not about fame, fortune, or convenience. It is about deciding to maximize the gifts and talents you have been given and living a life with very few regrets.

As a professional speaker, her expertise earned her the Certified Speaking Professional designation from the National Speakers Association. A designation held by fewer than 800 people worldwide. Jessica Pettitt is back for another episode. Can you believe it? As we pick up from the last episode it is clear the putting two professional speakers on the same show, fills up a lot of space. But Jess shares great wisdom. There is no right way to do wrong. Words hurt and often our social media relationships facilitate impatience. Social media allows us to use words without accountability. Hey! No matter what others tell you. It is okay to be weird, its okay to be different, and all of us can show a little more patience with weird dogs and yes, people.
Listen up, parents and young people. Adulting is hard and we are faced with tough decisions and tough conversations. Are you overwhelmed by all things swirling around in our world today? Would you like to have less frustrating conversations? Are you ready to laugh and stress less, while creating real change in your world? If you answered “yes” to any of those questions you are in the right place. If you answered “no” you may be in serious denial! My guest today has been stirring up difficult conversations for over a decade, performing as a stand-up comic, speaking on stage as a diversity educator, and moving teams from abstract to action. She is a member of the National Speakers Association and is a Certified Speaking Professional. Fewer than 10% of speakers worldwide hold this credential. When she’s not traveling the country, she is spoiling her pug lab mix, Leo and listening to Johnny Cash cover bands. Buckle up. This is a wild ride of an episode. Helping us become the change we want to be…please join me in welcoming from Eureka, California, Speaker, Educator, and would be vegan… if it weren’t for peanut butter chocolate milkshakes… Jessica Pettitt. I think […]
