Tsvety Roo is a digital nomad and solo traveller on a mission to explore loneliness, self-discovery, and what it truly means to connect in today's fast-paced world. Her journey began when she made the bold decision to leave a successful career at a NYC agency, embrace minimalism, and step into life as a nomad. For the past two years, Tsvety has lived without a permanent home, travelling through 22 countries and visiting 37, uncovering how solo travel can lead not only to deeper connections with others but also to a more meaningful relationship with oneself.Through raw honesty and lived experience, she shares how she broke free from isolation, embraced fear instead of waiting for it to disappear, and discovered the surprising power of meaningful connections with strangers. Along the way, she learned to slow down, stay longer in each destination, and even create “mini communities” that offered a sense of belonging. What makes Tsvety's story compelling isn't just the places she's been, but the profound inner transformation she's undergone. Solo travel taught her to distinguish between loneliness and solitude, redefine what “home” means, and adapt with resilience when plans went awry. Travelling minimally—with just what she truly needs—became not only practical but liberating. Her story is an invitation to step outside your comfort zone and discover how choosing the unfamiliar can transform not only the way you travel, but the way you live.Let's enjoy Tsvety's story. Peoples & Things host, Lee Vinsel, talks with Julien Mailland, Associate Professor of Media Management, Law, and Policy at The Media School of Indiana University Bloomington, about his book, The Game That Never Ends: How Lawyers Shape the Videogame Industry. The book examines key moments, beginning in the 1970s, in which legal decisions influenced how the videogame industry worked, how law shaped business and technology strategy and vice versa. The conversation touches on the book's three major themes: intellectual property, freedom of speech, and international law. The pair also discuss Mailland's new project, a geopolitical history of the best-selling videogame of all time, Tetris. Learn more about your ad choices. In The Sideways Life of Denny Voss, Holly Kennedy brings humor & heart to a neurodivergent hero, sharing how Lake Union Publishing shaped her journey. What happens when good intentions collide with messy realities? In The Sideways Life of Denny Voss, Holly Kennedy introduces us to Denny, an unforgettable, neurodivergent character whose big heart and distinct voice make him a narrator you'll want to follow anywhere… even into a goose-napping, an accidental bank robbery, and now a murder trial. In this conversation, Holly and I talk about the long road it took to trust her voice enough to bring Denny's story into the world, the challenges of writing authentically from a neurodivergent perspective, and the unique publishing journey she's experienced with Lake Union. And yes, we dig into how timely themes like gun violence filter through Denny's television obsessions and what it means to write a novel that feels both tender and topical today. In our warm conversation, Holly and I discussed:
For years, Dr. Jonathan Metzl thought about gun violence as a public health issue. His approach treated it like an epidemic and treated guns as a health risk. But as he studied a mass shooting that happened near where he lives in Nashville, he realized he had been missing something crucial for years— the cultural power of guns. This hour, as we reflect on the gun violence that has shaken the U.S. in recent weeks, we are listening back to our conversation with Dr. Metzl on his book What We’ve Become: Living and Dying in a Country of Arms. GUEST: Dr. Jonathan Metzl: Frederick B. Rentschler II Professor of Sociology and Psychiatry, and the director of the Department of Medicine, Health, and Society, at Vanderbilt University. His most recent book is What We’ve Become: Living and Dying in a Country of Arms. This episode originally aired on October 4, 2024.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Hello to you listening in Ellsworth, Maine!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Long ago in China there were cities surrounded with towering walls and magnificent gates. The gates let people in and out of the city but more importantly the gate was the place where the soul of the city resided. How do you build such a gate?People would collect the bleached bones of warriors from the old battlefields and carry them back to the city where they were sealed inside the newly constructed gate. The hope was that the long dead warriors would protect the city in exchange for being remembered. When the gate was finished it was sprinkled with the blood of a specially chosen animal because it was believed that adding blood to the dead bones would bring the souls of the warriors back to life. [Inspired by Sputnik Sweetheart, by Haruki Murakami published 2001 - pages 15 to 16]Writing your story is much like this. To begin gather together the bones of the story for shape and structure. But a story is organic; it needs a soul to live and breathe. Invoke the "sorcery of stories" to link the world of your words with the world of your imagination and you'll create the soul of your story.Story Prompt: Where might the soul of your story reside? What will bring it to life? Write that story! And tell it out loud! Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. If you wish share your story with someone or something. All that matters is you have a story. You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, bring your friends and rellies, and join us! In this episode, we're diving into better thinking, because this is the way.I'm bringing you two powerful quotes that changed my perspective:Dr. Joe Dispenza: “Your personality creates your personal reality.”That means you decide who you are. Your personality isn't fixed—it's built by your choices, your habits, your actions. Audit it. Work on it. Shape it into something big, loving, giving, inspirational, helpful, and smart.James DiNicolantonio: “Your life is your responsibility. Full stop. Your choices, your habits, your actions. Blame is a thief—it steals your power. Ownership is the cheat code.”Stop waiting for someone to tell you what to do or fix your life for you. Take accountability. That's the only way forward. This episode is about rewiring how you think and how you show up. If you're ready to take ownership and start building the reality you want—this one's for you.

In hour 1 Steak and Rusty get in to a huge weekend for both the Dawgs and Jackets, and the Falcons have a HUGE test as they hit the road to face the Vikings on Sunday Night Football.
Sporting Kansas City were unfortunately unable to capture a result against Austin FC Sunday Night at Children's Mercy Park, falling 2-1 to the Verde giving up a couple goals on the types of sequences that have become all too common for them this year. It was a return to the 4-2-3-1 setup we saw for the first hour against Colorado, and similarly to that game Kerry Zavagnin switched to the 4-4-2 to attempt to try to take the game to Austin late, but they were unfortunately not able to catch lightning twice, and gave up a late set piece goal that despite Dejan Joveljic's best efforts in stoppage time were not able to equalize. It was yet another reminder that this team still has a lot of work ahead of it to become a consistently competitive team in MLS, and reinvigorated conversations about how the team might go about doing it roster-wise. The long awaited CSO conversation was brought back with renewed vigor as Andrew Wiebe reported pre-game that the team was in final interviews for the position and alluded to some interesting details that really got the conversation going regarding how significant this roster turnover in the winter could potentially be.The USMNT completed their September window with two very differentiated performances, candidly the first game was quite different between the two halves against S. Korea, and an interesting tactical switch by Pochettino had at least one member of this podcast crew making comparisons to Sporting KC and how a setup we've begged for most of the year might bring similar positive results. Finally, the KC Current continue dominating NWSL, we do a quick stock up stock down of the USMNT roster, and get into a preview of this weekend's trip to Salt Lake City.Music by The Spin Wires
Is it possible that autism, Alzheimer's, bipolar disorder, and other major health challenges might all be related to the gut? That's the question Dr. Sabine Hazan, a gastroenterologist and CEO of Progenabiome, has been probing for years. The Food and Drug Administration recently approved the use of fecal transplants for research into the treatment of autism, and Dr. Hazan says this may open the door to real breakthroughs. She hopes to compare the microbiomes of autistic children with their neurotypical siblings and see if fecal transplants can help treat autism. She's already seen one remarkable case where restoring gut bacteria brought real improvements for a child with autism. Can these findings be replicated on a larger scale?During the COVID-19 pandemic, she observed that people who experienced the worst bouts of COVID-19 seemed to have significantly lower counts of a key microbe: bifidobacteria.“Bifidobacteria is important in absorbing sugar. It's important in your metabolism. It's important in your energy drive,” Dr. Hazan says. There are trillions of microbes in the gut, and scientists are only just starting to discover how this delicate balance of microbes impacts people's health, immunity, and mental wellness, Dr. Hazan says. There are “microbes that can kill us, but also microbes that can save us,” Dr. Hazan says.“You will see, probably in 10 or 50 years from now, there will be a connection between cardiac disease and the microbiome. We will be possibly able to fix the heart by fixing the gut, because it all is connected,” Dr. Hazan says.Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and the guest, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.

Athena and Mims dive into sibling dynamics: rivalry vs. healthy competition, birth-order tendencies (oldest/middle/youngest/only), and practical ways to nurture lasting sibling bonds. With candid stories (board-game meltdowns, back-to-school budgeting, “alpha dog” energy in all-boy homes, and mixed-age families), they show how our own sibling roles follow us into adulthood—and into how we parent.Highlights & Key IdeasRivalry → Connection: Reframe “winning” as skill-building, teamwork, and celebrating each other's milestones.Birth Order Matters (…and so does spacing & gender): Oldest often “paves the way,” middles crave visibility/uniqueness, youngest leans on charm & access; big age gaps and mixed genders change the script.Model the Cheer Squad: Teach kids to root for one another (not just race one another).Different doesn't mean behind: Younger sibs often appear faster simply because of exposure—don't compare, stay curious.Know your lane as a parent: Your own sibling role shows up in your default parenting settings (planner, peacemaker, driver, free-spirit). Use it—don't be limited by it.Segments:1) Sibling Rivalry Survival Guide: Turning Competition into ConnectionPractical swaps: cooperative board games sometimes; rotate “wins;” name strengths out loud; normalize losing without shaming.2) Birth Order Blues & BonusesHow “oldest energy,” “middle flair,” “youngest sparkle,” and “only-child depth” show up—plus how spacing and gender stacks amplify or soften those traits.3) Raising Team PlayersRituals that bond: shared chores with joint goals, sibling shout-outs at dinner, “coach for a day,” and quarterly check-ins where kids set family goals for each other.

Here in Episode 159 of Jay of the Dead's New Horror Movies, four of your intrepid Horror Avengers — Jay of the Dead, Dr. Walking Dead, GregaMortis, and Mackula — are joined by special guest, Kombat Karl “The Mad Irishman” from Movie Podcast Weekly, to help them review ALIEN: EARTH (2025), Episode 005: In Space, No One…! Warning: This episode contains full-blown, major plot spoilers as our space jockeys discuss the latest developments of this entertaining Sci-Fi Horror series. With this new menagerie of Beastly Freak organisms, Jay classifies the eyeball-squid thing as an “Ocular Octopod,” and he calls the ill-fated, science vessel USCSS Maginot, “Con Air but With Aliens.” Also in this episode, you will probably not be surprised to hear Mackula say, “I think it's just that darn sheep!” Kombat Karl translates, in the way that only he can, what the xenomorph sentiments are saying, and Mackula very excitedly draws parallels between the alien xenomorphs and The Shape, Michael Myers. In addition, Mackula and Karl chat about whether Alien Earth makes any references that nod to “Blade Runner,” as Jay asks Karl if Boy Kavalier is a “replicant.” Note: This episode was recorded on September 4, 2025. What if the key to unlocking the next wave of tech innovation lies in the hands of the entrepreneurs receiving the least funding? There's a fascinating paradox in today's tech landscape: women-led startups are 63% more likely to succeed and have higher chances of becoming unicorns, yet they're receiving less venture capital funding than ever before. This gap represents not just missed opportunities, but untapped potential that could reshape entire industries. In this inspiring conversation, tech entrepreneur and AI pioneer Susan Sly reveals the uncomfortable truths about Silicon Valley's old boys' club and shares her blueprint for change. From deploying AI computer vision at scale to building The Pause—a revolutionary menopause-focused platform—Susan breaks down exactly how women can stop waiting for permission and start reshaping the industry from within. “If you don't like the stats we're sharing, where did you go shopping for that outfit you're wearing? Who designed it? We need to get present to where we're spending our hard-earned dollars—from the apps we download to the brands we're wearing." — Susan Sly What You'll Learn in This Episode: What's really driving the decline in VC funding for women Simple ways to discover and support women-founded companies in your everyday purchases How perimenopause affects women leaders and why workplace support matters more than ever Practical strategies for breaking into male-dominated tech spaces without playing small Why AI governance desperately needs more women's voices and how to get involved The real reason most medicine is based on data from middle-aged white men and how AI can change this How to leverage crowdfunding platforms and angel investing to support female founders
Johan Bruyneel and Spencer Martin break down Mads Pedersen's hugely impressive stage win on Sunday, where he powered away from the early breakaway despite being a heavily marked rider, further extending his incredible streak of Grand Tour stage victories and Points Jerseys. They debate UAE's continued reliance on aggressive stage-hunting tactics and whether the team is leaning too heavily into stage success at the expense of the GC, while also discussing if the ongoing—and escalating—protests could alter the final outcome. Before signing off, they look ahead to the final week, previewing tomorrow's post-rest-day summit finish, how they expect the race to unfold, and who offers the best betting value. Paul calls believers to imitate Christ, who, though fully God, humbled Himself by taking on human form and becoming obedient to death on a cross. Because of this humility, God exalted Him and gave Him the name above every name. Every knee will bow one day, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Paul encourages them to seek their salvation with reverence, knowing God is working in them. He urges believers to shine like lights in a dark world by living without complaining or arguing. Paul also commends Timothy and Epaphroditus as faithful examples of service and selflessness, encouraging the church to honor those who live sacrificially for the sake of Christ. Christians must live with humility, as Christ did. We are challenged to put the needs of others above our own and to approach life with a servant's heart. When we let go of selfish ambition, we reflect the heart, character, and sacrifice of Jesus and promote unity within our community. We are reminded that obedience and a positive attitude are crucial to following God and that the Father exalts those who live and love like Jesus. As we live out our faith, we are called to shine in a dark world through our attitudes, words, and love. Let us strive to serve faithfully, encourage one another, and support those who devote their lives to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. Gracious God, thank You for the example of Christ's humility and love. Help us to follow His example by putting others before ourselves and serving with joyful hearts, especially among Your people. Shape our attitudes to reflect Christ's mindset: free from pride and full of mercy. Work in us to will and to act according to Your good purpose. May we shine like lights in this world, living with integrity, compassion, and unity. Give us strength to obey even when it's hard and help us to do everything without grumbling or disputing. Transform our hearts to look more like Jesus. Thought Questions: How do you go above and beyond to maintain love and unity among fellow believers? How important is unity to the Father? In what ways must you embody the same attitude as Jesus when He came to earth? What does humility look like in your daily life? We are called to be lights in this world, “holding fast the word of life.” What does that mean, and why is it important to prioritize it?

Constructing Student Mobility: How Universities Recruit Students and Shape Pathways between Berkeley and Seoul (MIT Press, 2023) challenges the popular image of the international student in the American imagination, an image of affluence, access, and privilege. In this provocative book, higher education scholar Stephanie Kim argues that universities -- not the students -- create the paths that allow students their international mobility. Focusing on universities in the United States and South Korea that aggressively grew their student pools in the aftermath of the Great Recession, Kim shows the lengths to which universities will go to expand enrollments as they draw from the same pool of top South Korean students. Using ethnographic research gathered over a ten-year period in which international admissions were impacted by the Great Recession, changes in US presidential administrations, and the COVID-19 pandemic, Constructing Student Mobility provides crucial insights into the purpose, effects, and future of student recruitment across the Pacific. Constructing Student Mobility received the Best Book Award from the Association for the Study of Higher Education Council on International Higher Education. Stephanie Kim is a scholar, educator, author, and practitioner in the field of comparative and international higher education. She teaches at Georgetown University, where she is an Associate Professor of the Practice and Faculty Director of Higher Education Administration in the School of Continuing Studies. She is also an affiliated faculty member of the Asian Studies Program in the School of Foreign Service. Leslie Hickman is a translator and writer.
