The Grim Dark Podcast is a discussion podcast about role playing in the Warhammer 40,000 setting created by Games Workshop, and the RPG system published by Fantasy Flight Games.
Episode 110 - "The Sound of Silence" - We've got a bit of news to talk about this episode with the revelation that Warhammer 40000 is about to have its 9th Edition released, bringing a whole bunch of lore updates, mainly around the Necrons. We talk about what this means for the game and the setting in general. We also take a look at the latest releases from Cubicle 7.
Episode 109 - "Begin Anew" - With the PDF of Wrath and Glory now available from Cubicle 7, we are back to bring you our thoughts on the new release. We go from cover to cover breaking down what has changed, what has happened, and talk about what it all means for the future of the system. Still not our usual show format, we hope that you will enjoy it anyway.
Episode 108 - "Twelve Plagues of Nurgle" - With everyone around the world current shut inside during the COVID-19 crisis, we decided that the time had come for us to wax lyrical about Warhammer 40k for an hour and a half to give our listeners something to listen to. Not in the normal show format, instead we simply discuss the latest developments on the RPG and 40k in general.
Episode 107 - "A Bit More Orky" - For those of you who didn't get enough Ork action in Episode 100 when we discussed the Ork Boy, we are back with a look at both the Ork Species and the Ork Nob archetype. We also cover off the latest news on Warhammer 40k and give you our review of Apocalypse. Finally we tackle the often asked question of how to build encounters in Wrath and Glory.
Episode 106 - "With Great Power" - For the first time in a long time we welcome a guest to the show in the form of Shane from the Total Party Thrill Podcast. With help from Shane we chat about the Wargear, Influence and Acquisition systems, cover off the Inquisitor archetype, delve in to high level play in Wrath and Glory, and finally chat about the current state of Kill Team.
Episode 105 - "Rhana Dandra" - There is big news this month with the revelation that the Wrath and Glory licence has been moved to Cubicle 7. We cover this change, but we also bring you a regular show as well. As promised we are tackling the Eldar in Wrath and Glory with a look at the species in general, the Corsair archetype and another discussion on role playing the xenos mindset. In line with our discussion on the Aeldari, we also review the recent Ynnari mini-codex from White Dwarf.
Episode 104 - "Primaris Perspective" - We are opening up the vaults of Belisarius Cawl as we bring you an episode discussing all things Primaris. We cover the rules for building space marine characters, and then take a deep dive in to the Primaris Intercessor archetype. In fitting with this we review Shadow Spear, which brings some new rules and lore to Primaris Marines, and finally we discuss the key considerations when planning an all space marine campaign for Wrath and Glory.
Episode 103 - "Unforgiving" - Welcome to our latest show where we are delving in to the ruinous powers. We start by covering the rules for corruption, mutation, and madness, and then we move on to a discussion on the Heretek archetype. We have a guest join us for our review, and end off the show with a discussion on how Wrath and Glory characters would be ported in to the 40k tabletop rules.
Episode 102 - "Theatre of the Mind" - We are back for 2019 and in our latest show we are taking a look at Psykers and the Psychic Powers system in Wrath and Glory. In line with this we cover the Sanctioned Psyker archetype, before reviewing Dark Tides, and ending off with a quick discussion on the best way to describe your characters and NPCs to the rest of the group.
Episode 101 - "Into the Void" - In our latest show we're back to analysing the various systems of Wrath and Glory, and this time around we take a look at the rules for Voidships. We also talk about the Rogue Trader archetype, review Warhammer Quest Blackstone Fortress, and we end of with a discussion on the considerations of running sandbox style games.
Episode 100 - "Da Undred Show" - Get ready to Waaaagh with James and Mike as we bring you our centenary show right at the conclusion of Orktober. With a hundred shows now under our belt we welcome back some of our favourite guests including Ross Watson and Tim Huckelbery for a bit of a retrospective on what got us to this point. We also celebrate the season with a deeper look at the Ork Boy archetype and finally share some messages from fans of the games and our show.
Episode 99 - "Cards and Tables" - We finally return to our original format with all regular sections of the show now back. We start with a look at the various card decks of Wrath and Glory, before moving on to a look at the Ganger archetype. We then give you our review of Kill-Team, and finally we end off by talking about the importance of the session 0 in your Wrath and Glory campaign.
Episode 98 - "GenCon Special 4" - In our latest episode, we bring you all of the news from GenCon 2018 including the official launch of Wrath and Glory. We discuss the Ulisses North America panel, talk about the rules for character creation, and review the Wrath and Glory Core Book itself. Finally we return to our career series with an in-depth look at the Skitarius archetype.
Episode 97 - "A New Threat" - With the release of Wrath and Glory just around the corner, we can finally start to talk about the system and the setting itself. Along with covering the latest news, we also take a deep dive in to the Threatening Task mechanic of the new game. We also review Blessings Unheralded, and we invite you to help us resolve an issue in our own gaming group.
Episode 96 - "Origins Special" - We bring you a special episode fresh from the Warhammer Weekend and the Origins Games Fair. In this episode we have not one but three interview guests as we break down all of the latest news on Wrath and Glory as the game sees its first public release with the Free RPG Day module Blessings Unheralded.
Episode 95 - "Preorders Are Go" - In our latest episode we cover the biggest news about Wrath and Glory to date - the announcement about the preorder date and what products will be available in each bundle. There's also a ton of news about Warhammer and general, and we use this episode to discuss all of it.
Episode 94 - "They Toll for Thee" - We've been on a bit of a hiatus due to both of us traveling, but we are finally back to give you the latest info on the upcoming Wrath and Glory RPG. Today's episode includes looking at the latest two developer diaries as well as a quick discussion on the recently streamed game session from Bell of Lost Souls - the Box of Sorrow.
Episode 93 - "Imperium Sanctis" - Once again we take a look at the latest news on Wrath and Glory starting with the latest designer diary and a bunch of important dates from Ulisses North America. We then sit down and chat again with lead developer Ross Watson for a few key reveals about the upcoming game.
Episode 92 - "That Guy" - We have a new Wrath and Glory designer diary to digest that gives us some more information on Tiers and Ascending. We go through all of the latest news regarding the warhammer RPG lines and chat a bit about where the war game is at. Finally we have a little talk about how not to be That Guy in your gaming group.
Episode 91 - "Multiple Personalities" - In this episode we take a look at the latest designer diary from Ulisses North America about Wrath and Glory, including the reveal about Archetypes and the artwork that was shared over the past few weeks. We also take some time to answer a listener question about players using multiple PCs to balance an unbalanced group.
Episode 90 - "Pool of Tiers" - It's our final show of 2017, and we've got a bit of Wrath and Glory news to talk about. With two info drops since our last episode, we take the opportunity this episode to discuss the dice pool system of Wrath and Glory, as well as take a look at the mechanics of Tiers of play.
Episode 89 - "Indomitus" - In our latest show we can talk a bit about James' experiences playing Wrath and Glory at the Ulisses offices. We also present the final part of our Dark Imperium history, this time we are focusing on the events of the Indomitus Crusade, and the Plague Wars of Ultramar.
Episode 88 - "The Maelstrom" - Once again we bring you the latest news from both Games Workshop and Ulisses North America on the development of Wrath and Glory. In this episode we continue our background overview on the events leading up to the Dark Imperium. Today we cover the Ultramar Campaign and the Terran Crusade.
Episode 87 - "The Gathering Storm" - A bit of a shorter episode this time as we tread water waiting to find out more about Wrath and Glory. In this episode we give you the first of a two part overview of the major events in the 40k universe associated with the change to the Dark Imperium setting.
Episode 86 - "Three Decades of Service" - This episode we celebrate the 30th anniversary of Warhammer 40k, notably with something of a retrospective on the product line, and also a review of the original Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader book. We also welcome Ross Watson back to the show for our first live chat about Wrath and Glory.
Episode 85 - "Wrath and Glory" - In light of the new announcment from Ulisses Games, we spend a whole episode talking about and speculating on the upcoming Warhammer 40000 Wrath and Glory RPG.
Episode 84 - "Shrouded in Mystery" - We continue our series of discussions of adapting your RPGs to the 8th Edition setting with our latest Black Crusade show. We also talk about the Alpha Legion Chaos Space Marine specialty, review the new 8th Edition boxed sets, and consider the passage of time in the average campaign.
Episode 83 - "Grim Grim Darkness" - In light of the release of 8th Edition 40K we change up this Deathwatch episode somewhat, talking about running games in the updated setting. We also review Shadow War Armageddon, talk about the Storm Wardens, and argue about whether games can be run without systems.
Episode 82 - "Moving Forward" - This might be a Rogue Trader episode, but with all the developments around 8th Edition of 40k, we have to cover that. Episode 81 - "The Best Defence" - Rumours abound about the future of Warhammer role playing and we are here to cover it all. We also do the first part of four of our review series on the Haarlock Trilogy, discuss the Crusader role, and talk about when rail-roading can work.
Episode 80 - "Retroactive Continuity" - In our latest Only War show, we start the story of our own campaign which started back in beta. We also preview Inquisitor Martyr, discuss the Hunter Killer regiment doctrine, and tackle the use of retconning in games.
Episode 79 - "Death and Disease" - We're back for another year, and this time around we give you the second part of our own Black Crusade campaign. We also review Hero Forge, discuss the Plague Marine, and consider what it means to truly embrace Chaos.
Episode 78 - "Abhor the Witch" - For our last episode of 2016, we're talking Deathwatch - specifically our own, newly created narrative. We also review Space Hulk Deathwing, discuss the Black Templars, and talk about ways to use space hulks in your Deathwatch game.
Episode 77 - "World Building" - As promised in an earlier episode, we are finally looking at the Star System Creation system for Rogue Trader. We also review Traitor's Nexus, discuss the Dauntless-Class Light Cruiser, and consider porting the 2nd Edition Dark Heresy rules into Rogue Trader.
