Fourteen soldiers cross an experimental gate into an unknown structure. Seconds later, the way home disappears.What should have been a four-hour reconnaissance sweep becomes a fight to survive a place built around rules no human understands. Gunfire is returned with crushing force. Invisible planes cut anything that crosses them too quickly. Needle-thin weapons move whenever no one is watching. Deeper inside, rows of dead alien combatants hang beneath records that seem to measure how long they lasted.Weston, the platoon leader, has men running out of air and no reason to believe the gate will reopen on its own. His only lead is a network of heat moving through the walls toward the center of the structure. To bring anyone home, he has to follow it.But the farther the platoon advances, the more the place learns from them. Soon the rules are no longer testing only bodies and weapons. They are testing the chain of command itself.

Welcome to your weekly UAS News Update, we have 4 stories for you this week: a Boston police drone crashes, DJI Neo 3 leaks, Wingcopter unveils a new recon drone, and a search and rescue team in Canada uses drones to save a stranded climber. Let's get to it.First up, a Boston Police drone crashed onto a parked car just days after the department launched its new Drone as First Responder program. The crash happened last Thursday around 1:30 in the afternoon. The falling drone landed on a Mazda 3, smashing the rear windshield and trunk and destroying the aircraft. The owner wasn't home at the time, he came back to a windshield note and a wrecked car. Boston Police recently partnered with Motorola Solutions and BRINC on this program, launching it publicly on August 28th. The pitch was speed and safety, with drones reaching emergency scenes in as little as one minute, but this crash occurred less than 7 days after the program officially launched. The Boston Police Patrolmen's Association is not impressed, with Union president Larry Calderone calling the program invasive surveillance technology, and said the department should be hiring more officers instead. Under FAA Part 107, any drone accident causing more than 500 dollars in damage must be reported to the FAA within 10 days. It's also unclear if the drone was equipped with a parachute recovery system, which would have likely been required in this type of operation.Next, a leaked retail box may have just told us more about DJI's plans than DJI wanted. The box is for the DJI Neo 3, and it showed up online on September 15th. It's a beginner-friendly drone with fully enclosed propellers and a gimbal camera. The box lists a DJI RC Mini, a remote with its own built in screen. That controller matches a device that already has FCC approval here in the US, granted back in December 2025. The approval came through just three days before the FCC's Covered List cutoff blocked new authorizations for foreign made drones. The problem is the drone itself never got approval. Without it, the Neo 3 can't be sold in the US. The Wingcopter 262 was unveiled on September 14th, and it's a reconnaissance drone. This is a tilt rotor aircraft that takes off and lands vertically, then flies like a fixed wing plane. Wingcopter says it can stay airborne for up to six hours, fly up to 93 miles, and it carries a swappable payload including thermal cameras with 80 times zoom. It's built for military and border security customers, and it's the first product from Wingcopter's new Security and Defense division. No independent flight testing has been published yet, and there's no price, customer, or delivery date. It's unclear at this time if future payloads will include LiDAR or Mapping cameras. And finally, some good news. A drone helped save a stranded climber in British Columbia. It happened the night of September 10th at Stawamus Chief, near Squamish. A climber got stuck on a 10 inch ledge, 250 feet up, with no rope left to get down. Squamish Search and Rescue sent up two drones. One lit up the cliff face. The other flew a pilot line up to the climber, who used it to pull up a jacket and a headlamp. Rescuers then used a second drone to carry up 300 feet of lightweight rope. The climber was able to grab the rope out of the air, tied it into his harness, and rappelled safely to the ground.And the conversation continues on Post flight where we discuss these stories uncensored in the Premium Community, link is in the description. Hey friends! Today's episode is a two-parter: some security stuff up front, and then a big ol' personal celebration on the back half. If you're strictly here for the security bits, I love you and you're free to bail after the first half. If you're here for both, God bless you. Part 1: Kicking the tires on Insight Recon What it is: Insight Recon is an Active Directory security assessment tool out of Heath Adams' new venture, Breach Point. I signed up for early access a while back, finally got a login, and took it for a spin this week in my GOAD lab. Not a sponsor, not an ad — just a tool I was curious about. Watch it in action: I covered the install, a couple of hiccups I hit, and some of the report output in this week's TuesdayTOOLSday video over at 7MinSec.club. The setup: Log into the portal, grab the installer, run it on a domain-joined box, then pick whether you want to scan as your current user or specify creds. Say go, wait a few minutes, and your report card shows up on the dashboard. My two nitpicks (and they're mine, not necessarily yours): The download does a full-blown install with an install footprint, and the raw scan data gets shipped back up to Insight Recon so you can view your report. I can't help but compare everything in this space to PingCastle, where you unzip, run the EXE, and your HTML report is sitting right there on the C drive — nothing leaves the building. As someone who tries to be a good data janitor and nuke assessment data after reports go out, cloud storage is just one more place I've got to remember to go scrub. What I really liked: The remediation guidance is legit. I clicked into a few of the critical findings — some ESC/ADCS stuff especially — and it walked me through exactly what to change, why an attacker cares, how to verify the fix afterward, and where to go read more. There's also a "quick wins" view that pares the big list down to the biggest security impact for the least effort. The dashboard and the slide-out detail panes are genuinely pleasant to use. Why this matters even for offense-only folks: We're mostly on the offensive side with a little blue team consulting — we don't do hands-to-keyboard remediation. But I think you become a better pentester when you can speak confidently at delivery time about not just what to fix, but the gotchas that might bite them along the way. Pricing: On the podcast I guessed "a few thousand a year" and admitted that number may have come straight out of my bum cheeks. Turns out I wasn't too far off — there's a free tier to start, and paid runs $3,000/year with founder pricing at $1,500/year locked in for the first 25 customers. See the pricing page for the current details. Verdict so far: A promising first dance. I want to give it a proper workout — run it side by side with PingCastle on a couple of real assessments and see if either one has blind spots the other covers. More on that in a future episode. Part 2: Why I've got the giggidies My son Cam graduated paramedic school! As of tonight he has everything signed off to go take the gargantuan national test. I'm not going to pretend I got through recording this without getting a little watery-eyed. The journey: Senior year of high school, nothing career-wise floated his boat — there were subjects he tolerated and subjects he hated, and that was about it. Then a conversation with a family friend who's a paramedic lit a fire in his belly, and he's been running at it ever since: EMT coursework in high school, then straight into the paramedic program. How he did it: He wrestles with ADHD, so he had to figure out how to hack his own brain to get through a mountain of material. Come home from five or six hours of class, eat dinner, then hit the books again and re-take his own notes. Then he'd sit down with my wife or me and do an Ace Ventura-style verbal dump of everything he'd learned that day — and any time he caught himself glitching on something, he'd write it down, keep going, then go back and shore it up. Every single night. The Mr. Miyagi moment: My wife has been a nurse for 20+ years, and about six months ago she had to tell him she couldn't help anymore because he'd surpassed her in certain areas of healthcare. Yes, AI made a cameo: The night before his final scenario testing, he and I sat down and had Claude generate random practice scenarios so I could prompt him and just watch him talk for two minutes straight about airway management, medication dosing, all of it. The cliffhanger: Four-ish hours of individual scenario testing, an hour-and-a-half drive to the ceremony, and no word either way on if he passed his tests. I hit the front door of the building not knowing whether I was walking into smiles or tears — and right as my hand hit the door handle, a text came in with a giant happy face: I passed. Somebody must have been cutting onions in that parking lot. His people: Cam's the youngest of the bunch — most of his classmates had been working EMTs for years — and from day one they told him "we got you, we'll get through this together." For the group photo on the steps afterward, one of them tried to pick him up solo and just about threw her back out, so it took three of them. That's the little family he's got, and I hope they stay close, because they've all got that beast of a test coming next month. The hard part: If you've listened to the last few episodes, you know my dad passed away at the end of June, and that Cam was the one who found him and sprung into paramedic mode. My dad was a cop and a pilot who had enormous respect for paramedics, EMTs, and nurses, and he was one of Cam's biggest cheerleaders. Whenever I did something my dad was proud of, he'd say, "I'm busting my buttons over here!" That's exactly what he'd have said tonight, and not having him here to say it is a karate kick to the heart. But I'll tell you what — I'm busting my buttons about Cam for the both of us. He then developed the curriculum for the small boat over-the-horizon amphibious raid package, eventually moving on to become one of the first Marine SERE instructors at the Navy SERE School in Maine. As you can surmise from the title of his book, he now works and advises in the world of counterinsurgency, appearing on multiple news outlets and publications. Robert talks to us about his path to the yellow footprints, shares some anecdotes from his amazing career, and gives us an analysis on the Iran conflict. Vik and I sat down to talk through 11th now that we've got most of the rules, even if points are still the missing piece. Dave is about 35 games in, while Vik is coming at it from the “read the rules, built lists, haven't played yet” angle.Short version: we're pretty positive. Not in a “GW nailed everything” way, but this is a much stronger launch state than we expected. It feels like there's already a real game here.1. Scoring feels very differentThe old 10th edition plan of “hold my expansion, deny yours, win on primary” doesn't really work the same way anymore.Because missions are asymmetric, throwing a unit away to deny points can also give your opponent points somewhere else. Games seem higher scoring overall, and pushing big differential feels harder unless you properly run someone over.2. Dispositions are a big win gameplay wiseThe disposition system feels like one of the best parts of the edition. It gives list building more texture again.Purge pushes you toward killing and aggression. Recon feels the most like normal 40k. Priority Assets seems solid for singles. Disruption is the one we're least sold on right now, because it often asks you to kill something and do actions, which can get awkward.That said, we don't think you should pick a bad detachment just because it has a better disposition. The detachment is still the main thing, but disposition definitely changes how you build the last part of your list.3. Hidden is better than expected (now that is 12" - go to ground)At first, 15" hidden didn't sound that impactful. But with Go to Ground bringing it to 12", it matters a lot more.It changes how units stage, how objectives are held, and how you force your opponent to come closer before they can interact. That's good.It doesn't solve everything though. Slow six-inch melee infantry still looks rough unless it has real delivery, advance and charge, miracle dice, ingress, transports, or some other trick.Move blocking has changed shapeOld-style move blocking is much weaker. You can't just put five models an inch in front of a tank and expect it to be stuck forever. Vehicles and monsters moving through infantry is a good change overall.But move blocking isn't gone. It's now more about:using 2" engagement range properlyblocking where models can enddenying access to terraintagging things awkwardlyusing the fight phase and pivot wellTwo-inch engagement range feels huge, and good players are going to get a lot out of it.Vehicles and transportsVehicles are better, but we don't think the edition is just “fast gun wins.” Cover matters, minus one to hit is strong, hidden matters, and shooting without ignore cover can feel rough.Transports are one of the areas we're less positive on. Base-to-base disembarking is a massive change (when destroyed), and losing a transport in the wrong place can expose the unit inside immediately. Drukhari especially feel like they need to relearn a lot of old staging patterns.OverallWe're genuinely impressed. There are still worries around slow melee, map balance, transports, and whatever points end up doing, but the foundation feels strong.Most factions seem to have something playable, games feel less deterministic, list building is more interesting, and universal terrain is a huge win.For a launch state, this is probably the best 40k has felt in a long time.

A Harvard trained chemist, Thomas is a scientist at heart. He has a methodical approach to puzzle solving and puzzle crafting that makes for satisfying logic puzzles. However, there's also a lot of artistry to the puzzles Thomas designs. Throughout the conversation, he emphasizes that each puzzle put out by LinkedIn is handcrafted. There is a playfulness and inventiveness to the layout and solve path. There's a dance between the puzzle creator and the solver. Thomas posts videos on LinkedIn of his solve path for the games, and he talks to us about the conversation that sparks. In fact, the whole reason behind the puzzle offerings at LinkedIn was to create opportunities for users to connect socially and bond over the games. I especially appreciated talking about puzzles that empathize with the solver and how to create approachable puzzles that can still delight expert players. Jon Herold and Burning Bright open the Wednesday show with Trump's True Social feed doing most of the heavy lifting: an Apache helicopter gets shot down over the Strait, Trump announces Iran's military is "completely defeated," and then discloses mid-interview that the US secretly extracted 100 million barrels of Iranian oil through the supposedly closed Strait over the past month. Burning Bright unpacks why that disclosure confirms what financial media had already noticed: oil prices never moved the way they should have if the blockade was real, because it was never real. The Strait has been a narrative operation against the global energy cartel, not Iran. Trump's $1.5 trillion Recon 3 defense budget post lands with the SAVE Act attached, and McConnell and Collins immediately say it won't pass. Burning Bright's war economy switch theory frames the whole thing not as a weapons bill but as a translation layer for funding a domestic technology and manufacturing overhaul modeled on the post-WWII fifties boom. Trump's clip calling out how Steve Hilton got "approved quickly" once heat was applied gets a full breakdown alongside a resurfaced Tim Pool 2021 clip calling election fraud talk "voter suppression." Bill Pulte takes over DNI on June 19 and Trump asks for a FISA 702 extension, while Burning Bright argues Intel is simply being siloed and put in a closet while the real operation runs elsewhere.

" There are three defining characteristics of a Sauve Qui Peut game: an unusual underlying concept, commitment to the bit, and beautifully painted murals." They do things a little differently around here. That's been Steven Keller's personal design philosophy ever since he started making his first escape rooms at his company, Sauve Qui Peut, located in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu in Quebec, Canada. If you've ever played games at this company, you'd know the house style is that there is no house style. Every game feels distinct and different, almost like they were designed by different people. And yet Steven is the mad genius behind it all. Steven is one of the most instinct-driven designers I've encountered in this industry. He designed his first three rooms within five months of having the idea, before he'd even signed a lease. He deliberately avoided playing other escape rooms early on so he wouldn't get influenced. However, he eventually abandoned this philosophy when he realized that Egyptian-themed rooms were not, in fact, his invention. What hasn't changed is his core approach: start with one really cool thing, build around it, and figure out the story last. Like I said, they do things a little differently around here. However, Steve doesn't do it alone. Shawn Mercier is Steven's right hand man, and he joins us also to give us the nuts and bolts perspective. He started as a gamemaster, began quietly fixing and improving mechanisms, and pretty soon made himself indispensable. Shawn introduced more sophisticated and reliable tech to Sauve Qui Peut's rooms. He helps keep everything running smoothly, all before he turned 26! We know, because he celebrated his birthday with us on the day of our recording. Together, Steve and Shawn are responsible for some of the most inventive and, yes, slightly unhinged escape room design in Quebec. I really appreciated hearing Steven talk about his design process. “We really wanted to make a game that would encourage creators to make more weird stuff.” Low budgets, tight spaces, and a DIY mentality. As it turns out, indie filmmaking and creating escape rooms have a lot in common. James Hamer-Morton & Charlie Bond of Deadlocked Escape Rooms in Reading, UK, know this better than anyone. They joined us on REPOD to talk about creating their quirky, puzzle-driven games. James and Charlie actually met as actors on the set of a film, and they've been partners in life and business ever since. David even wrote a post about one of their projects, Echoes of Darkness: A Star Wars Fan Film . These origins really honed their “do-it-yourself” ethos. As Charlie puts it, “It originally stems from a lack of funds. But also it's enjoyable to do it yourself, and to learn a new skill in the process.” Where Deadlocked really shines though is in their creativity. Their games have quirky mechanics and stories. They've employed clever tricks to make the sets feel larger than they are. Relying on quick wits and creativity have allowed Deadlocked to stay nimble. During the pandemic, they created a wonderful virtual game called The Insiders that gave them global recognition in the escape room world. This led to them giving a talk at the very first RECON about Adapting Your Escape Room Business to New Mediums. James and Charlie have spent the better part of a decade building one of the UK's most distinctive escape room companies. Deadlocked is currently ranked the #1 escape room in the UK, and their newest game, The Reading Witch, recently topped the TERPECA rankings for England. One of my favorite stories from this episode is about the time they were playing an escape room and they stopped mid-game to help the owners fix a broken prop. "We don't fear spoilers because a good room has more to offer than just the set that you saw in a photo. It must be something that you feel also." When most people think of an escape room, they think of puzzles, padlocks, with maybe a light narrative slapped on top. When Rémy Strobbe and the team at Live Cinema created Zone 51, however, they thought: okay, but what if instead of solving puzzles, you were inside a movie? Rémy is the co-founder and creative director of Live Cinema, based in Paris, France. He joins us on REPOD to talk about Zone 51, a jaw-dropping 120-minute experience set across 550 square meters, 25 rooms, 3 live performers , and a cinematic globe-spanning story. David calls it "one of  the most remarkable experiences that I have seen in the immersive world." Zone 51 begins the moment you walk through the door. Indeed, for those unaware, they might be convinced that they're here to watch an actual movie. As you can see, the set is absolutely gorgeous. Rémy talks candidly about the difficult journey to creating this game. Amongst their troubles, they had a construction partner go bankrupt mid-build and take €80,000 with them, and a pandemic that halted production for over a year. He also shares the secrets behind the tight pipelining schedule that makes this project financially feasible. I especially loved hearing Rémy talk about their philosophy on marketing and allowing players to record their games. Live Cinema leans into sharing striking visuals. As Rémy put it, a good experience has more to offer than just what you see in a photo. And those photos are spectacular.
